- What's Included
I'd like to begin by saying at no point through the process of booking, paying or checking in was I informed of any building work.We initially booked through Booking.com, but as Hilton Honours members, we contacted the hotel to get our account linked to receive the points for the stay.My arrival was late on Friday the 26th for 10 days; the hotel and first impressions were that it wasn't too bad of a hotel, we checked in and had BDD 500 preauthorised on our card for any expenditure, but didn’t have to sign any documentation - however, after the weekend it became clear that the hotel patrons needs were not of any concern.Everyday was filled with a constant banging, crashing and drilling from the third floor above the pool. I asked the staff on reception about this to be told the entire floor was being renovated and that we should expect this between 10am until 3pm for each weekday (on Thursday the work actually began at 8.40am).I complained that I had never been informed of this, and had someone told me, I would have booked another hotel - I do not expect to go on holiday to a construction site with no warning.I was merely told 'you should have been told', and with a shrug of the shoulders was left to enjoy the wonderful sounds of Bajan angle grinders. On Wednesday night we were invited to a Hilton Honors guest reception. After a little while, one of the representatives of the Hilton Honors group gave a short speech about how guest satisfaction meant more than anything to them, and that rather than writing a poor Trip Advisor review we should speak to the reception and they would do everything in their power to rectify any problem.Upon hearing this, I told the same thing as I told reception, and was given the exact same response (almost word for word), only this time I was offered a few Hilton Honors points - a pitiful way to shut me up after traveling so far and spending so much with the Hilton group, I politely declined. My girlfriend then emailed Martha, a manager of guest relations at the hotel (I believe). All other times we had emailed we received a response incredibly quickly, however as far we can tell this email was ignored as we never received a reply to this issue.Following on from this, I sent an email informing them that I would be leaving a review detailing exactly what had happened and finally received a response on the Thursday, one day before the work was supposed to be finishing.Alanna, the assistant manager, was kind enough to offer us a 45% refund, as we only had one more day of noise to put up with, we accepted.Unfortunately we were fed somewhat of a lie – on both the Saturday and the Sunday, work was STILL going on.One day prior to our check out we went to settle our bill in cash, and were told the BDD500 would be released, however on checking our bank account later, we saw that the hotel had attempted to take a further amount of money covering all of our bill, plus BDD100 on top! The reception staff couldn’t understand our frustration that at no point were we informed this would happen, nor that we hadn’t given them permission for this (the money was eventually released, but we had no documentation saying this would be the case, and it was only after a shouting match with what can only be described as the most inept manager that we finally were given a signed document saying we would get this reversed). If Hilton truly believe they can let guests book and pay for their holidays without even the smallest bit of information regarding building work disturbing their hard earn rest and relaxation, then they don't deserve any business, and will no longer be getting mine.Friends of ours were staying at the Sugar Bay hotel down the road, and for the two days they had renovation work at the hotel, they were provided with excursions and ways of apology; Hilton could learn a thing or two, rather than just paying out when people complain enough.Upon returning, we discovered that our Honours account was not updated to reflect our stay, apparently this is because we booked through Booking.com, despite staying at the hotel – Hilton have again offered some points, but this is a pittance compared to what we should have received if they’d processed our booking properly. As a side note, the hotel quite literally is falling apart, huge slabs of the wall on the front have fallen off right above a walkway, it's a miracle no one was hurt.
Overall my stay was great. The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. There were only 2 issues I experienced. One was no water for a few hours one morning due to repairs and also I was asked to move rooms due to repairs. They were small inconveniences but the staff made sure I was in an upgraded room for my troubles. Also the wifi wasn't that great. Only got a strong signal in the Lobby. Absolutely no connectivity in my room on the 4th floor.
I attended a conference at this hotel. The staff were welcoming. The room was disappointing as there was a leak under the sink in the bathroom and the balcony chairs were uncomfortable. The warm food items served at breakfast in the Executive Lounge needed more variety.
Hotel is well located and provides a spectacular ocean view. It's well maintained and the staff are friendly and warm. I paid for and enjoyed the use of the Executive Club which is very convenient. The Tours Desk in the Lobby provided a lot of assistance and suggestions for lovely "Bajan" experiences. I will recommend this hotel to other guests and if I have the opportunity, I'll use it again.
Stayed at the Hilton Barbados Resort for 10 days. Excellent and well serviced accommodation. Great efficient and friendly staff. Good value for money. Expect to go again. Great beach for jogging and swimming, with a good beach side bar and restaurant for snacks.
