Selctive All Inclusive

We just got back last week from the Mango Bay so called All Inclusive Hotel, why I say this is because I do not drink coffee, hot tea or water in the morning, I drink coke. The first morning I got up I went to the gentlemen and said good morning to me, I said it would be a better morning if I could have a coke, he said I could not get a coke because the bar is not open. I said this is suppose to be all Inclusive, he had the keys and delivered me a coke but he said good luck the rest of the week, which I thought was strange. The next morning I went down to get a coke, and Ms. Aerial was there and she said the bar is not open, told her I got one yesterday and very rudely she said who got that for you and I told her, this happen the rest of the days that we stayed there. I then got coke from another place and I could not get ice because the bar is closed, this happened on our Anniversary which by this time I am in tears, my husband was in such did belief for a cup of ice. So if you plan on having anything besides coffe or hot tea, stay away from this place. They talk about the free catamaran ride they do not tell you that you need to book that right away, so we never got the catamaran ride to the sea turtles, because they was booked. I was told later by a gentlemen that it was booked on the Saturday that we arrived, but I needed to correct him that a family booked it on a Sunday with no problem for 5 people, so I was lied to about that. They did offer a speed boat ride, but we declined because it is not the same, it is about being with a group. We did book a catamaran tour that we payed for, so we did get to go on one but not the free one.The rating of the food is not the best, you could call it a hit and miss situation when it came to the food, more of a miss, we had better food off property. The sad part of this whole trip was that I complained about the coke in the morning the first day, I then found out by a waiter that he did not know it was me that was complaining about the drink problem, so I was the talk of the wait staff and this was the day we was leaving. I had HR coming to talk to me, and upper management coming to talk to me which at this time it did not matter, it was to late my trip was already destroyed. My question is why did not someone try to correct this before it got escalated, I know the answer to this is because Aerial is the owners daughter and she was in control. I complained to the front desk and it did no good. The good points is Cara, if you want to plan a tour have her plan it, she does a wonderful job.You want a great sever or to find good cigars, talk to Peter G., great guy, this is the person that told us I was the talk of the staff.

Could be much better

After reading many reviews my partner and I decided to try Mangobay. Following this I am writing what I believe is an objective view on the positives, and unfortunately many negatives of our stay.LocationA central location on the West Coast with bars and restaurants (which we had to use on a number of occasions) together with shopping within walking distance.Located on a small, and somewhat narrow beach. The Trip Advisor photo of the beach is very misleading. It is not as deep as it appears, and there are two or three rows of beach loungers crammed in. The dimensions possibly exaggerated by the camera lens used. Not as bad as the Spanish costas, but sun loungers are by no means as spaced out as the photo shows.Hotel infrastructureAlthough kept clean, the hotel exterior and many of the rooms that we saw are desperately in need of updating. Pool lighting only partially works, many of the wooden loungers around the pool are rotted.Gardens are well maintained. Some may call it "Shabby chic", in some areas (especially the rooms) it is just "Shabby".Beach and PoolAs mentioned above, its small. Swimming appeared to be safe with the beach protected by two artificial reefs. Beach vendors are not as numerous as some other Caribbean islands, and do accept a polite “no thank you”.The beach is kept very clean.A pleasant touch is the poolside drinks service. Either delivered by the laid back and sedate Peter, or at lighting speed by Tre (who we nicknamed Road Runner).Restaurant & FoodAlthough only one restaurant there is a choice of outside and inside dining. Being in a warm climate we initially chose outside dining. Pleasant during the night hours, but a complete pain during the day due to flocks of birds and flies. No apparent measures are taken to deter/minimise either. The birds, apart from them trying to take your food, result in bird droppings on chair backs/cushions and occasionally the tables. The staff do what they can to clean up, but it totally detracts from the ambience of eating outside. Consequently we dined inside for most of our daytime meals. Tip, if dining outside during the day, unless you wish to share your food with the birds, do not leave your table unattended! The food was often of low quality. Unlike most Spanish/Turkish/Egyptian all-inclusive hotels, you do get some meals with waitress/waiter service. These are generally the better quality meals. The buffet meals are often ethnically themed. While it is nice to try local cuisine, it can be an acquired taste. I can only speculate that local buffets are cheap to provide. I tried the “pepper pot stew”, almost choked when first mouthful I bit into a piece of very fatty meat. My appetite quickly diminished, I didn’t eat much that night! On a positive note, some meals were pleasant, freshly prepared shrimp pasta and the roast pork being the best. The hotel makes a point of saying that if anything on the day’s menu doesn’t appeal, just give them a few hours advance notice and if it’s in the kitchen, they’ll cook it for you. Tried a steak one night, palatable but a very thin cheaper cut of meat.BarA reasonable selection of drinks were available, many locally produced or clones of well known brands. StaffAll of the staff were fantastic, they could not do enough for you, great service and always smiling. Thank you to the bar staff Kevon, Ronald, Omar and Chevaz. Also to the restaurant staff Tanya (s), Michael, Peter, Shondell and Chanice. Thank you all.To us the staff are the hotel’s main asset.VerdictThe hotel has the potential to be a great holiday destination if the owners would firstly renovate it, secondly do something about the selection and quality of food and resolve the problem of birds/flies in the outside areas of the restaurant. Would we return? If the issues we have raised are resolved without a significant increase in the room cost, probably "yes", otherwise as we love the island we'll be looking at an alternative for next year.

Breathtaking Beach!

The greatest thing about this hotel is the beach, the rooms are in need of a serious update. The restaurant is good for breakfast and the few nights of alacart' menu, but the daily menu is mostly buffet and it is horrible! Really bad quality and inedible ! Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, but its an expensive island for what you get. we stayed in room 313 and there was mold in the bathroom, the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in. the blow dryer was from the 80's, 6 channels on the tv(only CNN played without fuzzies) and the balcony railing blocks every view of the beautiful ocean so..... no view while sitting. Maybe the pictures I saw before booking we're deceiving , I expected much more. Nevertheless, it was vacation and the beautiful beach made up for the frustration.

Fantastic hotel, excellent service from staff.

Stayed 7 nights for a friend's wedding, the staff were amazing - couldn't do enough for us. Had a pool side room (superior) after reading reviews on here and was pleased with it. Food was great, plenty of choice and good quality. Two boat trips are included in your stay and we really enjoyed both. Beach clean and staff are always around to make sure guests are happy. Loved the live entertainment in the evenings.

Ok hotel but terrible food quality

The hotel is adequate but for the price you pay the quality of food and it’s service isn’t up to scratch. You can do better for less elsewhere I’m afraid. The staff are very friendly and the activities good for 5s inclusion but you would bore yourself if you stayed more than five days frankly.
