Dream Vacation!

Our family visited the Crane during our Thanksgiving vacation. We were there for 4 days and were so sad to leave. Our daughters, 18, 4 and 2 had a phenomenal time and talk about our trip constantly. They are asking to return. We stayed in a 2 bedroom ocean view suite, with the 28' plunge pool. Talk about paradise. The girls loved using our private pool in the morning before we went out for the day. We spent time at the stunning pools and incredible beach. For a family with small children, we really appreciated the kids club. It was a fun time for the girls to do their own thing, and for us to spend some adult time together. Our only minor complaint is you have to remember you are on "island time." The services is very friendly, but slow. The food is above average, but not outstanding. Now we're trying to figure out how we get back!

Step up to the Crane.

This was our second trip to the Crane. We went the week between Christmas with our two teenage boys (13 and 16). The Crane is a physically gorgeous spot on the East side of the island. Gorgeous cliffs, beach and pools on a large campus. There is always a breeze - so it does not feel so hot. It is a condo so the rooms are large apartment set-ups with a kitchen, dining area, balcony, washer-dryer etc. Because the campus is so large it never felt crowded - even during peak season (you did need to go down early if you wanted a place on the beach). The landscaping and grounds are perfect. Place is a little dated but no big deal. On the down side you are about 30 min from Bridgetown and all the restaurants and activities. About $60 round trip every time. The breakfast buffet is pretty uninspired. Beautiful spot overlooking the ocean - just blah repetitive food. And the hotel service is slow/not attentive. People are certainly nice and friendly - just not on top of things. For example it took a call to the manager to get blankets - literally two days and 6 calls did nothing. Or they kept running out of towels at the pool/beach. Or lunch took an hour to show up. There is a little grossly over priced market. There are 4 restaurants on the campus (try Zen) that are ok. We loved the beach and the surf (jumping off the cliff and swimming ashore was also fun) and hearing the thump of the waves on the cliffs. The big rooms and physically gorgeous campus keep us coming back.

Spectacular setting, very nice but not great hotel

Our small family (couple with teenager) stayed at the resort for a week over holiday period. The location, while a little remote from offsite dining and shopping, is absolutely stunning. Upgraded to an oceanview room and this was well worth the fee - just the cliffs and ocean could be seen from the suite. The rooms are very spacious and well-equipped with a full kitchenette. Crane Beach itself is also spectacular but was uncomfortably crowded, no doubt to the time of year. Ocean's rough so not the best swimming but great for body surfing and boogie boarding. Pool area is gorgeous and unlike many resorts doesn't feel crowded, due to the multi-leveled tiers and separation of loungers. No worries at the pool about getting up a 6 am to secure a spot!Staff are very friendly but service rather slow. Had two amazing dinners on-site at L'Azure and Zen - Zen had the best sushi we've ever had. D'Onofrios not impressive, though. Our biggest issue with the resort were the breakfast dining options - limited to a sparse, grossly over-priced buffet or pastries at Village Cafe. We were shocked at the lack of fruit - never experienced that in a tropical locale. Next time, we'd stock up on breakfast items from a supermarket. Lunched at the Carriage House most days - very good.Don't let the distance from offsite activities deter you from visiting. Great shopping, dining, and other activities like snorkelling, surfing, diving, only 1/2 hour away in the Gap and Bridgetown. Found taxi rides are quite reasonable. Just be sure to do your research and reserve your restaurants in advance or get the concierge to do this as soon as you arrive. They are great. Plus - if you're visiting over a Friday night, don't miss the Oistins Fish Fry. Very fun!Overall, we'd recommend the resort and would stay there again.

Beautiful but dated

The location is fantastic. There was a good breeze every day which took care of any bugs that might have been an issue and cooled you down, too. The resort is very nice and never felt crowded. However, it needs some updating and refreshing. The staff was very nice. We had some issues, most of which were addressed. Here are some tips: if you want to eat by the pool (you order from the Carriage House), order early and tell the server when you want the food brought out, otherwise, prepare for a bit of a wait. The food at Zen is awesome - it a must - try the fried rice! The beach is beautiful but the water is rough! Great for body surfing, not good for young kids unless they stay at the water's edge and play in the sand. Chairs get spiked early and if you delay, all chairs will be taken.

Christmas at the Crane

The rooms are beautiful and spacious. Slept with the windows and patio doors wide open. Food is fantastic at all the restaurants. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The beach is where we spent most of our time. The pools are good to relax after boogie boarding and body surfing. The waves are large but still great for smaller children.
