Ocean Two Resort & Residence
- What's Included
Came to The Crane on a recommendation from a friend. First of all the staff is Very friendly and are non stop at keeping the grounds beautiful. First off be aware there isnt a ATM machine on the resort. If you need to get money you will have to take a taxi for $20 US dollars. The resort is gorgeous and sits atop a cliff. Unfortunately we were not able to use the ocean, the seaweed covered the entire beach, it was 3ft deep on some days. See my pics. They had a bulldozer trying to remove it but there theory was to push it back into the water?? They said the ocean will take it away, well all I says was even more on the beach the next day. So we stayed by the pool for 10 days which was nice but not what you travel to do when you have a pool at home. Second issue was with my room . We had a 2 bedroom garden suite w dipping pool. It was a beautiful room and perfect for us , however every other day the air conditioning broke which left sleeping horrible. The garden rooms dont get any breeze like the ocean view rooms do. The other issue w room was the dipping pool was covered in algea. They came once and vacuumed it but by next day it covered pool again. Obviously some issue there. Also had problems with WiFi in the room. Worked on and off like the A/C. Clogged sinks, broken coffee maker, and water/ice maker in room worked SOMETIMES.The hotel resturaunts are decent but very over priced for portions. The hotel sorta gets you because there isnt anything around the Crane. It sits in a residential area about 30 mins outside of Bridgetown. Taxi to town is $60 US dollars round trip. In closing we would NOT return to the Crane or Barbados. We've visited many Caribbean islands and it was probably our least favorite.
Our stay at The Crane was gorgeous and the resort really is incredible. From the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming, polite and were happy to assist with anything we needed. At this point I would just like to say that Cheryl and Jennifer in particular on the front desk were wonderful. A mention also to Jason who was normally at the L'Azure restaurant to assist with breakfast in the mornings - he was always bright and full of energy every morning without fail, and is a real asset to the resort. The friendliness throughout the resort was something that really stood out to us. Everyone, and I mean everyone, will take the time to greet you whether it's a 'good morning', 'hello' or even just a nod and a smile. The setting of the resort is breathtaking and is just as photos on the website suggest. We spent almost everyday at Crane beach which we believe is the best beach on the island by miles. The sand is super soft, crisp white and a touch of pink in some places, the seaweed is neatly raked everyday and the water is some of the clearest we've ever seen.We had the buffet breakfast at L'Azure for about 4 days which had a good selection of choices - scrambled eggs, beans, mushrooms, salt fish, omelettes made to order, pancakes, fresh fruit, juices and tea and coffee. We enjoyed the breakfast and always found ourselves eating way more than we needed to because it was so nice. Sadly we did find it had a tendency to be a bit cold on a few occasions when we didn't get down for bang on 7.30am opening, so I would suggest that you go down early to ensure the food is served hot.We didn't really eat at the other restaurants on the resort as we chose to explore the island and try more local dishes. We did however order room service from the Italian, D'Onofrios one Sunday evening which turned out to be an altogether infuriating experience. I have reviewed this separately. We did have some issues with our AC in our room throughout our stay which does seem to be a common occurrence judging by some other reviews but I hope we were just unlucky with this. We had fully functioning AC for our first night but for the rest of our 9 days at the resort we never had AC again, despite being moved to another room that also turned out to have no functioning AC. Before the move we were given a standing fan for our room but this simply circulated warm air, so on our 5th visit to the front desk to ask for an effective solution we were moved. It was a frustrating on the room move to discover that the room had a portable AC unit (clearly suggesting there's already a problem there) which was never flagged to us - had we been made aware of this we would have requested to be moved to an alternative room. The portable unit was also incredibly noisy and made mechanical clunking noises every 30 seconds or so, so it made for a very disturbed sleep alongside the standing fan that they also moved to our new room. We ended up turning off the portable unit at night as it was so loud and we couldn't sleep but it then meant it was far too hot in the room - not ideal when it's about 27 both outside and inside (photos attached shows the unit displaying the current in room temperature of 80F - far too hot to be sleeping in). The issue with the AC saw us spending a lot of time at the front desk (I'd say about 8 visits before it was taken seriously) while trying to resolve it which was unfortunate as obviously we had come to Barbados to explore, relax and enjoy the island but I'll be honest and say that we did spend a great deal of our time asking for the matter to be dealt with. We also had a number of engineers come to our room which isn't exactly ideal when on holiday. I would like to be fair and say that we raised the issue to management during our stay and when we arrived back in the UK we received compensation for the issues we experienced. The Crane is a little dated in some places and could do with a bit of freshening up and I would agree with some other of the reviews that cleanliness isn't always great (photos attached of windows and rusty fixtures).Overall however our stay at The Crane was lovely - the setting is stunning and the views really are incredible. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time here and are in agreement that had we not had the issues that we experienced with the AC in our rooms then it would have been an altogether fantastic, 5-star experience. We are considering visiting again towards the end of this year and hope that we were just unlucky with the issue mentioned above.
I traveled last month with my boyfriend and this hotel exceeded our expectations, crane beach is a gorgeous little beach, the staff is very friendly, and the next beach called bottom bay is just to day for.
We came from another resort before checking into The Crane so I had an objective and comparative basis for this review. First off, we were able to check in a little past 12nn. The staff were all very accommodating and spontaneous in their tasks. Very elegant decor/design and quality furniture/cookware/dinnerware. The majestic view and grounds were overwhelming. We took pictures from practically all angles. We always go for budget traveling but my husband regret booking the less expensive resort we stayed in the previous 3 days. Our flight the next day was delayed but the resort allowed us to stay until 2pm. No activities in this resort but the "village" (souvenir & jewelry store, ice cream shop/café, gallery, bar), pools, gym and beach give you a lot to do. Just looking out into the Atlantic from the cliff can be quite hypnotic already.
My husband and I have been fortunate to have traveled the Caribbean for several decades and we were truly looking forward to our stay at The Crane. Upon arriving, we were thrilled with the check in service and the helpfulness of the staff. The grounds were stunning and the one bedroom suite was beautifully furnished and clean. We arrived on Tuesday and were thoroughly enjoying our stay with the exception of the restaurant food at The Crane. And then, it was Friday late afternoon and everything changed. Perhaps it was the beginning of a school holiday, but my husband and I couldn't really use any pools except the adult pool (which has no shade). It was like being in some bizarre water park. Children were jumping and diving from every surface area of the pool, running through the vegetation and across all the walls. There were adults and children having drinks in the pool and then the kids discovered the complimentary water and cups which immediately made its way into the pool as well as part of some splash game.So we looked forward to some quiet in the evening and listening to the sounds of the ocean and frogs. Until the music started. With the sound of steel drums to one side and someone caterwauling out 80s music on the other, we were unable to enjoy the balcony because of the dreadful noise. It looks like you are in the business of timeshares and filling as many rooms as possible and less about ensuring a pleasant and safe experience for everyone.
