Fantastic location

Third visit to Barbados but first time at hotel. Excellent location with a long expanse of beach. 2 swimming pools. Rooms were basic but comfortable and fridge and kettle provided. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar prices were reasonable and restaurant/bar menus OK. 10% service charge automatically added to bill, Room safe was 3BBD/day and if you wanted a beach umbrella this was an additional 20 BBD/day.If a late check-out is not available a complimentary 30 minute use of a vacant room is provided. There are plenty of restaurant and cafes within easy walking distance and 2 convenience stores nearby. ATM and bank a short walk (100 metres).Overall a very pleasant stay and would consider again.

Overnight stop

Fantastic hotel! Prefect location!We were only staying 1 night in Barbados before heading of to St. Lucia the following morning. So this hotel was perfect for our short stay.Located on the beach front with gorgeous views of the sun and thand sound of the sea. Absolutely amazing.We were welcomed by a lovely lady who completed check-in very quickly & efficiently. The room was beautiful, a welcome drink was there to help kick start the vacation. A very nice touch. The balcony was ideal too. As you come up the stairs you had your own private little area with a mini bar before you open the door to the fantastic cosy room.We were only there for the night but I wish I’d booked for us to stay longer. I would most definitely stay here again.We dine here so can not comment on the dining facilities. But I’m sure the food would have been delicious.

Great location

Had a great vacation at this hotel. Beachfront property, fantastic beach ! Rooms are clean and suitable. Great location for walking around or dining out. Located right in the St.Lawrence Gap. Hotel offers great food as well.

We stayed at Southern Palms as an Anniversary treat as we married in Barbados 10 years ago and wanted to show the children where we had got married. We have had the BEST holiday! Our room was outstanding, positioned right on the beach with a huge balcony with a view of the most stunning and quiet beach. The food was excellent, in the restaurant and the bar and the room service was an added bonus when the children were tired.The service was first class, all of the staff were kind, friendly and attentive, so much so that when we met Britta the Manager at the Manager's cocktail party she suggested that we could renew our vows at the hotel, we hadn't planned on doing so but decided to go ahead. Britta and the wonderful wedding co-ordinator went above and beyond to make our 10th Wedding Anniversary so very special and we are so glad that we renewed our vows as the whole experience was just wonderful. Southern Palms has the most amazing character and charm, I really hope that they don't change a thing, it is a really special place.We would definitely recommend Southern Palms and definitely recommend a wedding or renewal there. We can't wait to go back!

Could be Amazing....

I booked this holiday rather quickly and didn’t conduct sufficient research, but I have to bear in mind that I definitely didn’t spend what I planned to either, hence the 3* opposed to 2*. During my entire stay I was struck with the sense of a bygone era.... that included the hotels physical appearance and its atmosphere. The whole place is in desperate need of an update and could be stunning. The flooring throughout the hotel is uneven and breaking up, the communion areas are tired and adorned with marks, the living area of the room resembled a concrete bunker with a fridge and 2 plastic chairs in it, the room was pleasant enough though with a comfortable bed and a functioning air con unit. The bathroom however was tired and quite frankly unacceptable; the shower had no pressure at all and was rarely hot. More positives, the hotel has free WiFi which was fast and mostly offered an uninterrupted service. The hotel is in a good location for dinner / evening entertainment and on a stunning beach (however be careful of the sea which looks very inviting but has a fierce undercurrent) The biggest frustration for me was the complete lack of service and dare I say etiquette. I felt that I was constantly under rule which took me back to school trips as a kid, or indeed an 18-30 holiday. A few examples, at checkin the receptionist was more interested in downloading rules to us than anything else, if you lose a towel it’s a 50BBD fine and if you use the safe you must pay each day you use it. After travelling I just wanted a shower and a bite to eat so I agreed to everything and, in the absence of a bellboy, I picked up my case to find the room. The receptionist again exhaled an order to stop and wait for the bellboy! Yes really!! In a good standard hotel you’re immediately shown to your room and your cases follow.... not here!!Another day, whilst on the beach, I moved an umbrella literally 6ft from the wall to where I was sat and a staff member came running over ordering me to put it back..... it was only when a manager came over and explained the reasons did I understand but the orders of the initial guy was not necessary and really quite insulting. There is a strange system concerning beach/pool towels in that you can have fresh everyday but you have to go to this small room by the mini golf course to get them. The quoted opening times of said room are 09:00-17:00, however the team basically opens when they feel like it! A number of days I had to ask reception to sort it after waiting 30 minutes outside the room. No apology was offered on any of the occasions. The day we were checking out I had a call 5 minutes before "checkout time" to see what time we are leaving.Barbados is stunning but my honest advice is to pay more and stay elsewhere.
