My family and I would like to thank the staff of the Southern Palms Hotel and the Bajan people in general for our wonderful 2 week holiday from 26 June to 12 July 2017 . We all agreed it was our best yet. Apart from the friendly service and hospitality, we also enjoyed swimming with the turtles, relaxing under our "own" palm tree on the excellent beach, the lovely cool breeze, chilling in the bar with the delicious rum punch (and the "catch of the day"), interesting discussions with the hotel manager from Denmark, learning how to windsurf with the oustanding "beach guy" Rodney, the exotic crabs and frogs, as well as our outings out of St Lawrence Gap to Hunte's Garden, among other places. Everybody was extremely friendly, even the security guards. Vi ses!
Apart from the manageress, who is a lovely lady, this resort disappointed in almost every respect. The general maintainence was poor, crumbling walls, and paths, though in fairness some of the paths were being relaid during our stay. The rooms are tired and dated. We found a lot of the staff were unhelpful and unfriendly. We wouldn't consider this resort for any future visits, as we have stayed in better resorts in the same area. One good thing about this hotel is it's location, right on the beach, and for 3 nights running, we were able to watch turtles come on to the beach to lay their eggs.
We spent a great week at this lovely hotel which is right on the beautiful beach. Lovely staff in all areas of the hotel who are always there to help with a smile. Our room was very comfortable with views of the pool, beach and sea with palm trees waving in the breeze. We ate a few times at the hotel from a good choice menu, with amazing cocktails created by the bar staff. Thank you.My only grumble about our stay (which is why 4* not 5) is that on the Sunday lunch steel band day you get lots of other people coming to the hotel for lunch....I have no problem with this. What was a problem was a group of about 25 people arrived for lunch on the beach and took the sunbed spaces of two resident families, who were already sitting there with bags, towels etc These families were pushed out and ended up having to relocate to another area of beach which shouldn't happen to residents. It also turns out they were frinds of the hotel manageress, as she joined them.
The fact that the hotel is frequented by repeat customers is testament to the incredible location, friendly staff and facilities on offer at Southern Palms. I have just returned from a first family holiday in Barbados with my husband and child. It's easy to see why people come back. I haven't doctored a single photo and these pictures represent an accurate picture of the hotel during our stay which I hope will impress future customers.Although I'd say the resort of st Lawrence Gap is geared towards adults, the children at southern palms are well catered for. There are plenty of boogie boards, inflatables and beach toys to rent (free), there's a pitch n put green, the pool area was very quiet and it is literally a one second walk to the beach. Our rooms weren't bad. A bit dated but we spent so little time in it. I think we might have been given an upgrade as I was expecting a garden room. Naturally we were delighted to get a sea view room upon arrival and that view....does not disappoint. We had a safe, kettle, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, iPhone docking station and alarm clock, to with free movie channel and spacious balcony. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The hotel does a lovely little afternoon tea (coffee and cake). They don't have to but it's a lovely touch and we got to know quite a few of the other guests. Regarding the food, I found other breakfast establishments on the Gap quite boring and over priced. Remarkably, the hotel was one of the cheaper places to have breakfast and the menu was more varied. I feel sick at the thought of more waffles and pancakes! The staff really make this place special though. Particular mention needs to be given to the lovely staff (Hazel, Chad and a couple if others but didn't catch their names) in the restaurant who were so kind and helpful to us during our stay, my daughter absolutely loved them! Edric was very helpful too, as were the lovely reception ladies. Finally, the beach is utterly amazing. Apparently, it's not the nicest beach in Barbados. We visited a few beaches and although I'd say that there's probably some truth in the fact that it's a bit more shingly with a bigger initial dip, you'd be hard pushed to find a cleaner and visually stunning beachfront. All in all, a fab stay and we would definitely return.
We stayed in a regular room with a garden view but actually from the balcony it was an ocean view also! The staff were all lovely, the food very nice, the hotel grounds nicely kept, pools great, room large enough and clean. I don't have a bad word to say. Reception sorted our taxi back to airport and very reasonable price. Location is brilliant! One step out of the hotel and you're on the beautiful beach, palms trees provide shade, turtles swimming around in the ocean. Absolutely blissful. One thing I will say is that you can't really snorkel there but that was no problem to us, we caught the bus up to Folkestone Marine Park which is very nice.I would definitely stay at Southern Palms again.
