We have just returned from a fantastic 8 days in barbados. Luckily for us, due to some maintenance work being carried out at our original chosen hotel, we were re-booked into the Southern Palms.Firstly, having read other reviews, and I understand that reviews are subjective and based on personal experience. It is true to say that the hotel may lack the total finesse that you would find in a 5* hotel for example. And that is the point. It isn’t a 5* hotel, so should only be judged on that basis. What you will get with the Southern Palms is a beautiful hotel set on an amazing beach, staffed by friendly, helpful and professional staff. Our stay at the hotel was faultless. Check in was smooth and quick, (approximately 5 minutes). With all the relevant information being passed to us. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. With a beautiful sea view, a bonus for us as we had been booked into a garden/pool room. We had breakfast included in our package, and what a breakfast it was. An amazing choice to suit all tastes. The hotel has two pools, which are spotlessly clean. There is a games/activity area with mini golf, an outside gym and table tennis amongst other things. Also available are various items for water sports activities. All of which is provided free of charge. There is also an indoor gym.All of this on what is considered to be one of the finest beaches on the Island. And it’s understandable to see why. Our stay at Southern Palms was idyllic. Made all the more special by the staff, who were unparalleled in there desire to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We certainly will be returning to Southern Palms and encouraging others to do so.
Me and my partner stayed at the southern palms from 28th August for 10 nights and found the hotel to be just simply amazing! On arrival check in was quick and smooth and we had a polite gentleman take the cases to our room. We had paid for a garden view room but as can be seen from the pictures attached our view was just simply amazing and was unreal to go out every morning and just sit and look out to sea! The rooms are of a good size and the balcony is more than big enough, the air con is a life saver and nice to walk in to a cool room after been in the heat. The rooms are nice and very clean, the beds are huge and comfy the bathrooms are a tad dated but still nice and knew this before we travelled. The WiFi worked perfectly from our room (315) and had no problems staying connected all holiday. The facilities at the hotel are good the pool is nice and clean and you have the paradise that is Dover beach steps away! It's worth walking round the hotel just to have a look around as the grounds are beautiful. The food from the hotel is reasonably priced for Barbados and is actually really nice we had a few meals at the hotel and was impressed every time. It is worth going out to eat though as the gap has some good place to eat. We found that some of the bar staff were a bit stand off-ish and seemed disinterested most of the time but the most were pleasant and polite.A special mention to Jan and Jenni I had emailed before about proposing to my girlfriend on the beach whilst we were there and they were so accommodating and helpful! They set a table on the beach and the setting was beyond anything that either of us could have dreamed of! So once again just a massive thank you for everything you did it made memories we will never forget!! If anybody reading this is thinking about staying at the Southern Palms then please go because you will not regret it and you will have the holiday of a life time!
i loved it there so much in September we are going back in December. We have stayed there many times December will be our7th time in that hotel so that tells you it is a great hotel great staff and very clean.
We stayed at this hotel with our friends for a wedding and had a nice stay. However there were a few points that let the hotel down which I will cover below.Location... sits right on a fantastic beautiful beach and has lovely gardens as well. Turtles regularly best on the beach.Rooms... We had to change rooms as our air conditioning broke down and the first room had a hedge right out side the window with some really noisy frogs in it which kept us up all night😐.however we were changed to a larger room which was lovely a d it was a shame we wernt given it earlier as speaking to the people in neighbouring room they have had empty rooms all week!!Food..food at the hotel is nice and drinks always served strong. Prices are comparable with other local restaurants....expensive !!!Service.. this ranged from very poor to exceptional. We made An offer to upgrade our room to sea view and was told by the receptionist our offer was an insult!! Also when we had an issue with our room it was handled in an unsympathetic and unprofessional manner. However .majority of staff were friendly and helpful.Overall a pleasant stay in a beautiful location
Review covers restaurant & entertainmentSouthern Palms, St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, BarbadosWe’d last been to the Southern Palms two years ago – for the dining and dancing that they offered three times a week – and managed just the one evening; same thing this time round (no matter that we’d promised ourselves differently – there’s always just too much going on). It was better this time round too – we shared a table next to the music makers with a couple of Bajan ladies who knew the band and, although we’d not known it when we invited them to sit with us (just the two of us at a table for 5-6), one of them was a singer and, importantly, she was known to the band leader. We’d arrived for 19.30 with sufficient time in which to eat before the live music, and taken the table next to the dance floor – to make it easier to come and go when dancing. The location of the band raised an issue for the noise that we’d perhaps face later in the evening, but we simply took a chance on that one. The dance floor is to one side of the dining areas - Garden Terrace - two open but covered rooms, one of which looks out over the beach/sea – so, great atmosphere – music, palm trees and a shared table for two; only it was too far from the dance floor. Thus, our move into the open next to the pool – but with the same beach options. It was dark outside and the friendly waitress offered us small hand torches with which to read the menu. It was ‘British Pub Food Night’ and, elsewhere in the restaurant, you could see plates heaped with …. well, the sorts of foods that you’d eat at a British Pub. Couldn’t resist this one – and ordered ‘Bangers & Mash’ that also came with a plateful of baked beans. (Bit of a contradiction – eating ‘British’ surrounded by the delights of fish cuisine á la Caribe, that’s what we did for the one plate.) Our second plate was grilled fish, salads and jacket potato with dressings – more like it should be then. We shared the fish too. A bottle of Banks and a Sprite covered our drinks when eating, and a large bottle of water once the dancing started. The band set up at around 20.30 as we were finishing our meal. It was dark, the music was muted, and Hurricane Maria was still a couple of days away (and pending); the beach/sea was peaceful, the hotel and pool in shadows. There were about two dozen people eating. And this is where the Southern Palms took on that memorable experience – atmosphere, a patch of concrete floor (>30 m2), music, vocals and people enjoying the delights of dancing. The lady at our table was invited to share the vocals – she knew the music/songs, had a great voice, had clearly sung in public before and delighted everyone with her solos and her duets with the band’s regular singer.A magic evening then with a mix of mood music – comfortable two-steps around the floor, lively quicksteps/jives and the occasion Latin – rumba, samba, chachacha, mambo, etc. There was even a slow waltz – where we had the floor to ourselves. Concrete floor, however, and not the best surface for those nifty natural turns. Unfortunately, can’t remember the name of the band – compliments to them and the hotel/evening.So, a great 2-3 hours dining and dancing for BB$85 (US$42).Peter Steele22 September 2017
