This was a £4,500, one-week holiday for two (including flights) and we were aware that for the same price we could have had three weeks in Sri Lankan luxury (our alternative for my birthday). Happily, the Tamarind - and the island - lived up to promises. Our room, 222, was large, fabulous bed and came with its own little bird who wasn't shy about popping into the room whenever we were in residence. Everything's here for a memorable stay - including, most importantly, great staff (warm, humorous, helpful - just like most Barbadians we met). Breakfasts were good and the evening bar meals, although pricey, were quite adequate. When we wanted a change of scene, we bussed to one of the Tamarind's sister hotels, the Colony Club (10mns up the coast road). There is a free water bus connecting the Elegant Group West Coast hotels, but the sea was too rough - as it was for most of our stay, most unusually for the time of year apparently, along with heavy daily showers! Only two slight whinges - no full-length mirror in the room and the wall-mounted mirrors were too high - my wife had to stand on a stool to make sure she'd be allowed into fab Tides restaurant for my birthday. Also the a/c unit is mounted above the bed - a direct blast of cool air meant we couldn't sleep with it on. A mention also for the excellent front desk staff. Chatting to them enhanced the holiday. Considering returning at a cheaper time of year (although we wouldn't get to see England v WI at the Kensington Oval again.)
This was our first trip to Barbados and we were recommended the West coast and chose The Tamarind because of good reviews and reasonable price compared to some other hotels. We loved it! Our room was spacious, with lovely balcony overlooking the beach. Bed super comfy and very quiet. We stayed on B&B basis and breakfast was really good, with plenty to chose from including freshly cooked to order eggs or omelettes, fruit, cereal, pastries etc. You certainly didn't need any lunch. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. I watched from my balcony an employee with a trolley of bed linen stop and pick up some litter. I was so impressed, it showed real pride in the hotel I thought! My only slight criticism - and it is only a minor thing - was that it was occasionally hard to find a vacant lounger round the pool or on the beach, especially one with a sun umbrella! The on site restaurants were very good, albeit a bit expensive for dinner, but there are cheaper options (and indeed more costly ones) in nearby Holetown. All in all would definitely recommend this hotel.
This was our second visit to this wonderfully managed hotel. We recommended to friends who came along with us. The hotel is situated on a long stretch of beautiful beach and you can walk right into Holetown along it, past Sandy Lane hotel for a bit of star spotting! Every meal we had in the hotel was first class with every member of staff being attentive, friendly and curtious. Rooms are first class and cleaned by the, again, happy smiling staff, to a high standard.I had a massage in the Spa and it was honestly the best i have ever had, so will definitely have that again when i return! The reggae bus stops right out side the hotel and we took it right along into Speightstown for lunch. Jumo's was fantastic for lunch. We also took it into Bridgetown for lunch at Lobsters Alive, which was also fantastic and had a live jazz band.Holetown has so many places to eat and drink and plenty of shops from high end to cheap and cheerful. And The Cliff restaurant is just a stroll along the road for that 'wow' place to eat.The Tamarind is situated, in my opinion in the best spot on the West Coast and can't wait to return....64 days to go and we will be back with our children and their partners to celebrate my Husbands 60th birthday, my daughter and son in laws 1st wedding anniversary and my son in laws birthday!! Well done Olivia and Neil on managing your fabulous hotel and thank you to all the staff who made our holiday such an enjoyable one. Kernelle is such a character and was always around with her smiling face and even remebered us from two years ago!See you soon Tamarind and have a rum punch waiting for us all!
Quite possibly one of the older hotels on the West Coast but since my last visit in 2015 a lot of work has been undertaken to refurbish the common parts and bedrooms which was then looking rather tired and worn.Food and drinks rather on the expensive side but then the current exchange rates do not help. Two good pools and bars, great beach frontage with sunbed drinks service makes this a good place to unwind. Perfect beach in both directions and walks up to Holetown and the designer shops, plus local bars and restaurants' galore. Spa is great and an Adults only pool which is small but quiet!Friendly staff and good service, quality of the food is very good and varied.
Stayed at the hotel for 8 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. The rooms were a good size and very clean with a great sea view . The breakfast was fist class with freshly made omelettes and eggs any which way .All the staff from the catering staff, gardeners ,beach staff were most friendly and helpful at all times ,nothing was too much trouble and this actual enhanced the stay.
