Just spent 10 days at this hotel. Clearly a lot of people return here time after time... we wouldn’t return. The hotel does have its charm but it is tired and the pools are small and not very enticing. The situation is nice right on the beach. The staff are ok but we didn’t experience the great helpfulness we had read about in other reviews. They did make us welcome day 1. However after that service was perfunctory. Things that let it down include being charged for a cappuccino at breakfast, the bathrooms are very old, cleanliness not that great. Breakfast by international standards is poor. One flavour of yoghurt if you’re lucky and lots of tinned fruit! In conclusion some people clearly love it but in our opinion there are much better hotels on the west coast.
After raising some issues with management we were delighted with the way they responded, and they made our five night stay most enjoyable. It is a demanding business running a hotel, and the test of good management is to react swiftly and with warmth to complaints, which are actually opportunities to delight the customer. Management certainly succeeded with us, and we would like to thank Paul and Candra in the reception team for their particular help in making our stay so memorable. This hotel has an advantage not always shared by others on the West Coast. It has a beach of reasonable depth. We spent a good deal of time relaxing in the shade of the large umbrellas, on the comfortable sun loungers. The service on the beach was pleasant and quick. We ate snacks on the beach, and two sharing one pizza is more than enough for lunch. We ate dinner in the main restaurant once and that was very good. We would certainly return.
I’m writing this in the taxi as we leave the Tamarind - couldn’t be more gutted to be leaving! My big brother and I had the most perfect stay! The facilities are top notch, the food is healthy, fresh and varied, the pools are tranquil, the spa is great, the water sports staff are fun but helpful and the frappe’s are strong...not to mention the rum punch!! But I think the BEST thing about the hotel, is it’s wonderful, friendly, kind and energetic staff! A huge shout out to Arden at the bar - the youngest looking Grandad you’ll ever see and to Ether at her omelette station/school - the loveliest lady to wake up to in the morning! All in, the whole complex has a relaxing but fun atmosphere where everybody makes friends and hangs out at the bar for happy hour to watch the sunset. So sad to leave and can’t wait to go back! Lots of love from Lilly and Nick
We first stayed here in 2002 for our honeymoon. Back then it was all I could do to afford the trip so we were on room only and every morning I went across to the Petrol station opposite the hotel to get coffee and donuts for our breakfast. Well we have been 5 times now and Tamarind never fails to tick all the boxes for us. What helps to make the difference is when on our last two visits, the door to our taxi has been opened on arrival by the smiling face of Anthony who always remembers us despite the number of guests he must see. He was here on our first visit 16 years ago which says a lot to me about Elegant Hotels as an employer. We were last here in 2014 for my wife’s 50th and four years later we are back as a surprise for her birthday. Barbados is her favourite place in the world and apart from one year where I rented a house (won’t be doing that again!!) as we had all the family with us, we have not considered staying anywhere else. This morning the Hotel laid on a champagne breakfast on our balcony which was just amazing complete with a birthday card from the GM and her team and a mini birthday cake. It was a perfect start to the day. A week to go and we are already talking about when we might next visit. Keep up the great work.
I hadn’t stayed at the Tamarind since 2000 having tried out Elegant Hotels all inclusive options eg Crystal cove and Turtle Beach which were both lovely but Tamarind just has that extra class feel. Daphne’s next door is perfect for unpretentious lunch whilst nice to dress up a little without having to go the whole way like supper at the Cliff for example. We weren’t charged for our pre-lunch cocktails which I think comes with being residents at the Tamarind but it’s a nice touch when it just doesn’t appear on the bill. As ever in Barbados the staff are so lovely and become friends. The adult only pool by the beauty spa is a nice little retreat if the sun loungers are all ‘reserved’ from 6 am. For us this wasn’t a problem but I do find it incredible that at 6.30 am ladies are putting their towels on sun loungers. Just a hint please to management ‘use it or lose it’ approach i.e if no one using it within an hour remove the towels. This is not a complaint with regard to my enjoyment but others might have issues especially when it is full capacity. Love the food, service, ambience, location ( yellow bus stop right outside ) Will be back next year
