We had an ocean view room and although we enjoyed the view, the sunsets, and drifting off to sleep to the sound of the crashing waves on the beach, we don't think there's a 'bad' room in the hotel so maybe wouldn't pay extra next time. Our room was immaculately clean, the bed comfortable, toiletries nice and the towels fluffy and soft. We loved the friendliness and willingness of all the staff from every department, who did their utmost to ensure everyone was happy and enjoying their holiday. They all worked exceptionally hard and smiled all day, always with time for a courteous greeting, The water sports staff were great and we can't praise them enough for their hard work and efforts in allowing us to enjoy all that was available. Their booking system worked well. We loved the breakfast buffet, the selection available and were happy to learn from Ether that we've been making omelettes in the wrong way for the last 50 years! (Got the right equipment now Ether and sorted the job!) We ate in the restaurant most evenings and enjoyed the food but found it expensive. Wine every night was out of our price range. We also dressed as we had been asked but found it annoying that others felt it was ok to wear beach attire and flip flops and were allowed in the restaurant. Paying for a taxi to go to other restaurants ruled out any saving to be made. We had a problem when half term arrived. Every beach sunbed was reserved by 7 in the morning despite a letter in our welcome pack saying this would not be tolerated. Families of 5 and 6 thoughtlessly and inconsiderately reserved them all, then the children went in the sea all day and didn't use them. Management did not enforce their policy to remove belongings on unused sun beds and leave them safely in reception. We also queued for breakfast unless up very early and the service for dinner was slow, slow, slow due to the wonderful staff being stretched to the limit. Would we go again? Yes, but never in school holidays. We enjoyed watching the children play and none misbehaved; it was just too full and busy for us.
Spend six nights at the Tamarind. Splurged and booked an oceanfront room. Well worth the money. Get one on the top floor. Slept to the sound of the ocean and didn't even have the door to the balcony open. It was that close! Fell in love with the rain shower head in the shower. Want one at home now. The staff was so helpful and nice and the breakfast which is included could hold you for the whole day. Wide variety of selections. You even get a cooking lesson from the lady who makes the delicious omelets. The beach is beautiful and if you are a beach walker you can go for miles, passing beautiful houses and hotels along the way. We didn't have kids but the ones that were running around seemed to have fun with all the water sports.
It was our third stay at the hotel. Whilst it was quite enjoyable this time again and the service was friendly and often efficient, the staff were severely stretched and struggled to handle 100% occupancy rates in the hotel during the February half term. Hence we ended up queueing up for quite a long for service which was quite frustrating. Even the basic things like getting your eggs order taken at breakfast would take about 20 minutes (on a few occasions we just gave up the idea of having freshly prepared eggs altogether). The same story was with trying to get evening drinks at the pool bar - too many guests and not enough staff. And, of course, the previously reported sunbed-nabbing - our friends had to get up at 7 am in order to get any reasonably placed sunbeds! All in all, we quite enjoyed our stay there however not convinced that we would come again.
A well kept and presented hotel with excellent friendly staff. Positives, good location right on the beach, crystal clear and warm sea, beautiful gardens, great service, lovely room (large and good view), sheets changed daily and room always spotless when we returned. Reception, bars and restaurants all gave faultless service and were friendly in a way that only Barbados can be. Negatives, very pricey ($8 for a small beer, $20 for a glass of prosecco, bar meals generally around $50). Didn't dine in the restaurant, even though we'd paid too as it felt too formal, having to pre-book a time, and conform to a dress code but maybe that just us. sunbeds not great quality, hard to get some shade and simply not enough beds for the number of guests. Just there for a week so tended to be up early and to bed early. Usually on the beach reading by 7:30-8:00 and even at that time, the pick of the beds were occupied by towels. Sun-beds is something the whole industry needs to get their heads around. With rare exceptions its the same all around the world. Our room was 223, good size with a lovely ocean view.Car hire is cheap but the road surfaces and signposting are awful. Fortunately the Bajans are more than happy to redirect lost tourist. Barbados has always felt safe on my trips over the last 30 years but is getting progressively more expensive.
Just got back from an excellent 10 day break at the Tamarind. The hotel and room exceeded our expectations. We paid more for the Ocean view and it was well worth it. The star of breakfast is Ether who does the egg cooking. She is brilliantly entertaining and a great cook. The staff cannot t do enough for you Arden, Joseph, Troy, Shanelle to name a few. Yes it did get very busy when we got to Half term but it never felt crowded. The breakfast was excellent as was the lunch. The bed was huge and the shower big and powerful. The water taxi worked really well and if you timed it right you could walk to Waves or Colony club and catch the water taxi back. Reggae bus was great fun and worth using. We will be back
