At the waves, was absolutely beautiful, the view was amazingly breathtaking. It was nice to wake up and walk out on the porch and get to see the ocean. I had a great time during my stay there ,they had all of the accommodations I needed. The pool was wonderful, we had a blast swimming all day . I will definitely go back and stay At The Waves.
Hi Cathy - This is the third time my clan and I have stayed at your “jewel of Puerto Rico” but the first time I’ve been compelled to tell about the truly fantastic Memorial Day week vacation I had with my two sets of cousins and their families at your Vieques resort, At The Waves. We were a group of 3 couples and kids that had been looking for the perfect venue for a long-awaited reunion. The villas gave us just that in our own tropical, private gated compound. The design and aesthetics of your resort were absolutely perfect! The units were clean and well maintained; each was fully stocked with utensils and sundries for the kitchens, towels, sunscreen and toiletries for the bathrooms, and books and a variety of board and outdoor game equipment in the living rooms (of which we partook almost nightly and for which even the kids eschewed their electronic media!). Personally, I am a particular aficionado of the harmonic use of space, and found that the tile floors and spacious openings between the rooms and the outdoors provided a seamless flow between indoor shelter and outside nature (I loved that I could walk sopping wet straight from the pool or beach through my living room to the shower and not have to worry about ruining carpet!). The manicured yet inviting landscaping complemented the buildings’ architecture, and I particularly enjoyed what I call your “Garden of Reflection” where I was able to grab a few solitary moments to escape the hassles of life-as-usual, even if only in my own head!Together we enjoyed evening rituals of sunset cocktail walks on the beach right off the front yard and morning foraging of enough sea glass, shells and other washed up ocean memorabilia to open a museum (the highlight of which was a life-sized tiki statue that we dug up and left at the pool garden to visit the next time!). Something different on the agenda virtually every day: snorkeling off the beach with the starfish (thanks for providing all the gear for our use and disposal), hiking through the old bomb shelter remains in Esperanza, and of course, shopping for knickknacks for the ladies! (Only sorry I didn’t have the time to do the open water dive I had wanted, but alas something to look forward to for the next visit.) Most of our dinners were outside on the patio straight off the barbeques so the kids could go right from the pool to the table without missing a beat, but we also dined at a couple of excellent restaurants in town for some special occasions. Even the weather was perfect, and I don’t know how you managed that! Finally, if I could make one suggestion to improve your ideal setting, which unfortunately is the same problem I had had on my previous trips: please find some way to make it easier to leave…!
We had such an amazing trip our 1st stay "At the Waves" we decided to return. What a great choice! It was even better than we remembered! The sunsets were incredible! The unit we stayed in was newly painted and pristine! They had everything we could have needed and the kitchen was stocked. The grounds were well manicured, the pool was crystal clear and we were back in paradise! Right outside the property we had the most beautiful private beach! We walked the beach every morning to watch the sunrise and found wild horses relaxing in the shade! It was surreal! We never ran into another person – only horses! The unit also had snorkeling equipment available. We took advantage of them and ventured out. The water was so clear it felt like we were in swimming in a massive fish tank. The kids loved diving to admire the starfish – We played studied them and returned them to their home on the ocean floor. Honestly, it was a step back to a world we don’t see. Hopefully we can return again soon for our next adventure…. (All the kids want to know is when!)
Our family of 17 had an amazing time At the Waves! Only negative thing I could say is it could use a lil sprucing up, such as newer appliances, water filter on kitchen sink, and an umbrella on the patio table that works.... But despite what I just listed, it was amazing!!! Definitely rent a golf cart to roam the island and for sure do Bioluminescent Bay!
“At The Waves is an oasis on an enchanted island.”5 of 5 starsReviewed 2 weeks ago for a stay in January 2014We had a wonderful experience in the 3 bed, 3 bath guest villa. In 2014 we traveled with 1 other adult couple. We found that the villa met our needs and then some. The villa itself was clean, had all the appliances and kitchenware that we needed to do our own meal prep, and we all like to cook. We generally started our day slow and easy with a walk on the beach with our morning coffee searching for the perfect shell and sea glass. We would come back to our place for a home cooked breakfast eaten out on the veranda, while enjoying tropical breezes. Everything from coolers to beach chairs to snorkel gear was provided for a fun filled day. In the early evening we would find ourselves swimming in or sitting by the pool with a cold drink with the sound of the surf coaxing us to relaxation. Sleeping was comfortable in the air conditioned bedrooms. We liked it enough to come back Jan, 2015 and a 3rd couple joined in on the fun. We met Dana, property manager at this time. She was very helpful with advice on restaurants, beaches to see and interesting things to do on the island. If we needed anything we just needed to ask Dana and she was very accommodating. I would recommend this rejuvenating place to anyone looking for a complete oceanfront home away from home.My husband Dennis, and I liked our visits so much we bought a house on the island in March and moved in in October 2015. In keeping in touch with Dana, we see that many upgrades to the villas have been made.....things only get better! We would recommend At The Waves to friends and family.A happy guest,Kathy
