I stayed in this hotel recently. The hotel is very dated the rooms are dark and not refurbished recently. The towels in the bathroom not good quality. The amount of towel is bare minimum reminds me to a one star budget hotel. In this hotel you will receive a bottle of water for your whole stay even if you are the highest ranked in Hilton. I find these type of management behaviour very poor. I would not recommend to stay in this hotel.
The main lobby was smelling like fish every evening. The rooms were very basic rooms of 2-star hotel. Internet reception on 9th floor was worst. This is the first time I am disappointed with any hotel.
We had a room on the fifth floor - the whole floor smelled of sewage. The room was supposedly an upgrade, but it was badly designed with a tiny wardrobe, lots of unused space, one light in the bathroom was broken, no slippers (€150 per night!). Do not stay here!
I stayed here with a large delegation of 60+ persons for three nights in November. This review therefore encompasses 180+ nights’ worth of experience of the hotel.Bar, food, and ambiance are as you would expect of the Hilton brand. However, key tests of any hotel include how it handles matters when things go wrong and how seriously it takes security. Hilton Brussels City excels in the former but could do better in the latter.During our visit, the hotel was targeted by an organised group of thieves. Indistinguishable from any other paying guest, they would bide their time in the lobby bar and, as soon as an opportunity presented itself, steal whichever bag they had been targeting and then leave. On one occasion, one of them even stayed to pay for his coffee! One of my delegates lost an expensive bag to this gang. Two lessons here: don’t leave your belongings unattended (even beside your chair) as they can be stolen in seconds; and, there is very little that any public bar or restaurant can do to prevent such organised theft. The rooms have safes. On our second night, one delegate’s room was burgled. Evidence suggests that the door lock had been stuffed with tissue so that the latch wouldn’t ‘auto-lock’. Had the delegate checked that the door was properly locked and/or used the room safe, they would not have lost the quantity of cash that they did. Lessons: use the safe provided; and, check that the door is locked when you leave your room. Basics!The GM (Ben) and Team Leader (Melissa) handled both situations well, striking a balance between the guest’s personal responsibility and that of the hotel. They are both a credit to the brand.Hilton Brussels City did not have a security presence in its lobby during our stay. The GM tells me that the cost outweighs the likely benefit. I beg to differ. The deterrence value of professional security would certainly reduce the frequency of targeted theft from the lobby. Yes, this would lead to higher room rates but a guest in a Hilton hotel should not feel that such a base value judgement has been made particularly during a spate of thefts. How many such thefts have to occur before professional security is considered good value-for-money? These two incidents could have happened in any hotel in Brussels. Two final tips – on checking in, ask whether there have been any security incidents so that you are fully informed; and, the risk of theft is greatest nearer the exits. If you are going to sit right by the door, keep hold of your bags.I would bring a group here again but only after briefing them on all of the above.
Just checked in. Really terrible. Small room with NO PLACE TO PUT AWAY CLOTHING other than a small closet with a few hangers on a rod that is hung perpendicular rather than from side to side so one can only see one thing that is hung. Safe in closet floor, so one has to get on hands and knees to access it. Bare floors in chilly November. Absolutely no decor in room. Tiny bathroom. Horrible gym with NO WATER. Instant coffee in room rather than coffee makerDO NOT STAY HERE!!!
