This hotel had major good and major bad...Good: the staff is super friendly (although they have no idea what they are doing), they are really sweet and want you to have a good time. (example: they don't know they should go take a shift break if they need to eat. Instead they eat lunch right in front of you at the pool bar and ask you to wait a minute until they finish. They two people at the bar eat at the same time so anything the guest need just stops.)The pool itself is warm and beautiful and the food and beverage prices are great, so you can enjoy and not feel like you are spending tons of money.The rooms were comfortable and clear- air conditioning worked well.Bad: Although the hotel told us they were 40% full, we spent 3 days with out seeing ANY other guest. It was just my husband and I and then at least 10 staff members. Although with all that staff, it still took 15 full minutes to get beach towels because they didn't bother stocking the pool with them. Sometimes mojitos would take about 15 minutes as well. In the morning, coffee would be at least 10 minutes and then if there was anyone else in breakfast, we waited about 45 minutes for 3 pancakes and an omelet. The staff has good intentions, just likely no hospitality training.We did visit during rainy season, so I do understand there is a not a lot that can be done about this, but the property was flooded nearly everyday. We could not play tennis any day because the courts were flooded. The overall design seemed to be flawed because the gravel and grass would not be flooded but the walkways were about 2-3 inches of water several days. The original room we were put in had the entire first step covered in water. The staff solution was that my husband and I get into the luggage cart so we didn't get soaked. That is not feasible to have someone roll you in and out of room when you are staying 8 nights so they did eventually move our room that night. Although the pool was beautiful, the chairs and umbrellas surrounding the pool were a mess. The foam on the chairs was exposed as all the chairs needed to be recovered. It was obvious no one tended to them as there was not a working umbrella anywhere and there were ants and spiders all through out the chairs. When the staff sees you struggle with trying to clean a chair or open an umbrella, they don't help. They just don't seem to know they should.The beach was a mess most of the time. They didn't have anyone manicuring the sand after storms and the waterline often had trash in it. One thing to note for this resort is you can not swim in the water (I guess you could if you really wanted to) but it is full of mud, debris and often trash. It is not clean and clear like the pictures. We went off resort through one of their packages. The boat we were on ended up breaking down and they drove us back to the resort on a work boat (pics attached). I was absolutely smashed into my seat with a crate of pipes banging against my shins the whole time (which left bruises). There was no discount on the trip for the inconvenience and it almost unbelievable that they would think guests should ever be on this boat. My suggestion is not to do a excursion through their packages- they are inexperienced and overpriced.Finally, I am not sure if they are directed to do this or if the staff just listened to the music they wanted to, but the music was always at an insane volume. Not a day went by where we didn't ask them to turn it down- often the same person everyday. So loud at the pool at dinner and even at breakfast that we couldn't even have conversations. Not sure if they are just really pushing the "party" vibe, but when they only have two guests at the pool and those guests are reading, they shouldn't be blasting party music after we have asked them 2x to turn it down.
Talk about consistency! Peace and quiet? DELICIOUS foods, Professional yet courteous service that comes along with smiles and laughter? The full package at The Placencia. A definite must stay, must visit, why not live and love it here along with us! A sure paradise in paradise.
This is an outstanding resort. We stayed in one of the condos and it was beautiful. 3 BR, 3 Bath with a great view of the ocean. We had a great time and really enjoyed the restaurant there. Service was, maybe the best I've ever had. Friendly and attentive staff.
This is a beautiful hotel that will keep you coming back time and time again. The service is always good and the food delecious. The staff bend over backwards to make sure that you have a pleasant stay. Laurent is the best chef around. He always makes the tastiest meals. The pool is amazing! It's a short ride from the airport but you will be glad you made the trip.
Overall my stay here was ok but since I've been home I'm not happy with how they conduct business. The property is aesthetically pleasing. Footsteps away from the beach. I stayed in a master suite which faced the ocean. The master suite was a nice size. There's a queen bed with separate living room area, 1 bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and a full kitchen. (You are not allowed to cook in the kitchen) and upon check in I found a pair of men's boxers behind my bathroom door.(gross) This hotel only has 1 restaurant that closes at 10 so don't get hungry after 10 because there's nothing to eat. The closet place to go is about 20 mins away from the property in the village. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially the pool bar staff. They would stay open a little later to accommodate us. There is only WiFi in the restaurant. You can buy WiFi for the room but it doesn't work that great. When you check out they inform you that if you used a shuttle for a ride that's an additional charge. I gave my debit card to pay for my shuttle which was $20 USD . They manually wrote down all cards which I didn't like at all. I come home and check my account to find out they charged my card an additional $118 USD and I have no idea why. I call the hotel to find out why they charged my debit card without my permission. They tell me that I didn't pay taxes on my room. My room was paid in full including taxes 3 months before I arrived with my travel credit card. I have emails stating that. This hotel, without any authorization, used my debit card that was meant to pay for my shuttle ride, to incorrectly charge me additional taxes. After going back and forth with this hotel they finally agreed that I did pay in full and it was their mistake and I would receive a refund. It has now been 30 days and they still have not refunded me the money they should have never took. The way they do business is not ok. If you stay here check all you accounts after you leave. You never know what they may charge on your card without authorization.
