Cayo Coco, Cuba Vacations

White sand beaches, clear turquoise waters and modern beachfront resorts make Cayo Coco a beach lovers paradise.

Of the over 4,000 cayos, these two are the best known. But since they are environmentally protected their development will remain limited. Connected to the mainland by a 20 km causeway, they are known for their 155 species of birds, including colonies of pink flamingos. The flat terrain is perfect for walking or cycling, and the powdery white sand beaches - all 22 km of them - are irresistible.

This is not the destination for the history buff or the shopaholic. But if a Robinson Crusoe paradise sounds pretty good to you, consider leaving "civilization" far behind on a laid-back vacation in Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo.

Our Opnion

Southern Florida features a string of islands called Keys, and Cuba has similar sunsoaked islets called Cayos. Shimmering in against the clear Caribbean sea, Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo (pronounced Ki-oh gee-YARE-mo) feature modern resorts with every pleasure a sun-seeking vacationer looks for.
