Best Western Jaco Beach

- All Inclusive Features
Location: Beachfront, 2 hours from Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose.
Last week I stayed at the Best Western in Jaco Beach. It was an all inclusive at $139/night. The food was very repetitive. Not many amenities at all. The pool was good but no pool bar. As a frequent traveller I was disappointed with the overall room, food and drinks. I wouldn't recommend an all inclusive in Costa Rica. It would be better to book a condo with a kitchen.
What's not to love?! It's all inclusive! Paramella and Daniel in the bar were great! They were fun and very kind!! We loved snacks being offered. The meals were nice as well but we personally got sick of them and went to town to eat some meals!! It's right by the beach, there is pool, ping pong, a pool! The housekeeping was great and the front desk staff were kind!!
A friend & I recently stayed for 2 nights at the all-inclusive BW Jaco Beach. We arrived 2 hours before check in and were advised by the security guard at the driveway gate that we would be charged $50 each ($100) if we checked in early or we could leave & come back at 3pm. We left and went for a walk around town. The location is great, the grounds are kept very nice and the rooms & facilities were all fine. They had good breakfast & dinner buffets (we didn't make it for a lunch) and the bars made good-tasting, strong drinks. Some of the staff is bi-lingual but most seemed to know only a few words here & there. The security posted by the beach access prevented anyone from taking alcohol down onto the beach. I understand rules but lots of people down on the beach were drinking. The pool was very warm, not at all refreshing. Overall it was a nice place to stay but I'll probably try someplace else next trip!
We stayed at the BWJB from Wed., May 17 thru Mon., May 22, 2017. This trip was booked thru Gate 1 Travel as an “"independent tour,” meaning Gate 1 booked our air & room and we did the rest. We had an option to include a rent car but opted out after realizing what it was going to cost us in insurance plus wear & tear on our nerves‼Overall, I rate this place a 4.5 stars. The few “cons” that stopped me from giving it 5 stars included: 1.) the beds - if you have a bad back or like soft beds, be prepared; they are extremely firm! That said, the bedding is comfy, although thin and the pillows are very nice - and there are plenty of them. 2.) room storage - in our room (dubbed a “standard” which was a king sized bed and a twin bed) there was only a small three-drawer desk and a shelf above the hangars in the closet. There was only one small glass shelf in the bathroom. (On a side note, while the hotel provides shampoo and liquid soap, we found the quality of both less than what we're used to, so we bought hand soap & shampoo in town the 2nd day we were there.) There was a nice open vanity next to the desk in the room, so we used that counter top for most of our non-clothing storage. 3.) the beach - while the views from this hotel are spectacular, if you are envisioning lying on the beach in white sands and walking barefoot up & down, you're better off taking a day excursion somewhere else. The water is nice but there are strong currents and big waves. The beach is not sandy, it ranges from very fine to slightly coarse brown gravel. Not easy to walk on at all. Again, the views are spectacular so for us, it was definitely worth the inconvenience of no sandy beach. So now, for the “pros” - which are many. This resort is small - only 125 units, so it is more intimate & quiet than many of the larger ones. It is immaculate - you see workers constantly cleaning, grooming the landscape, scrubbing pool areas, etc. The grounds are gorgeous, lush and a pleasure to just sit & enjoy. There are birds & squirrels in abundance and we saw a few iguanas and even a couple of scarlet macaws flying overhead. In general, this area is very natural and just a pleasure to be in. Our room service was impeccable- we even had a new towel animal daily. The A/C in the rooms works great and ours was easily adjustable according to our needs. Just FYI, the guest rooms are the only air conditioned spots on the property. The food was wonderful and there was always an abundance of choices at the buffet, including wonderful fresh fruit, salads, a daily soup, several entrees & vegetable choices, an omelet and waffle station at breakfast, and of course, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The alcoholic drinks were delicious and not stingy with the alcohol. All the bartenders and dining room wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The pool bar had a snack bar grill with great burgers, hot dogs, nachos and occasionally pizza or small burritos. Speaking of the pool, while it is small, it is immaculate and more of a splash pool, only 4.5 ft deep. There is an adjacent kiddie pool. No hot tub, but we didn't miss it.As far as entertainment, there were a couple of live musicians over the weekend that we were there but we were usually pooped from the day’s activities and headed back to our rooms after dinner. There is cable TV with HBO & Cinemax and a decent number of English speaking programs to keep us entertained (although we are both bilingual and watched Spanish programming as well). The town of Jaco is a very easy walk from this resort - probably less than a mile with decent sidewalks. Jaco is a nice little town with a variety of restaurants, a couple of grocery stores, a bank, some pharmacies and of course, plenty of souvenir shopping. Some places will negotiate a bit on prices and others won't. We found the prices decent and did most of our souvenir shopping in Jaco.We took two day trips - one to Tortuga Island and one to the Arenal Volcano area. Please see my reviews of those separately on TripAdvsor. These were booked independently by yours truly on the internet prior to our arrival.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come again. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Nice hotel. Close to everything. Good overall experience. Staff is great! The restaurant staff are exceptional and have worked here for several years. Very accommodating. Modesto and Jorge provided exceptional service.
