Stayed here for 3 nights to end an amazing trip to Pura Vida Costa Rica. Disappointing after some of the other places we stayed. Standard room clean but showing signs of wear particularly in the bathroom. Nowhere to sit outside your room unless you want to sit in a narrow walkway. Safe had been closed by previous guest. Asked reception to get someone to open it as we wanted to put valuables in there before checking out the beach. A couple of hours later still not opened so asked again. Told it would be two hours! Explained that we wanted to go to the beach and put our passports and money in it and did it really take another two hours to sort it out! Agreed to do it then if we were in the room. It then took about 30 secs to unlock it when someone arrived. All the beach/pool lounger cushions had been used up by other guests but found unused plastic loungers on the beach itself. Beach black sand and not easy to walk on but the view is exceptional. Watching pelicans diving for fish was a real treat. Breakfasts were good. Lunch menu okay but not great. Very restricted menu for dinner. Choice of eating in the pool bar on very uncomfortable bar stools if you wanted a lighter choice in the evening. Stupid to do this when only one other table being used in the main restaurant adjacent to the bar. Why they didn't offer to let us eat at a normal table from the lighter choice bar menu beggars belief. Service poor particularly when staff outnumbered guests. No atmosphere during the evening apart from Valentines night when there was only a restricted set menu to choose from. Most guests ate out at night and I can certainly see why. The location is really good and management could certainly do something to make it more appealing to "eat in" at night. Don't take the timing for Happy Hour as shown on the drinks menu seriously. It said until 7pm but when we ordered at 6:45 we were told it was over at 6:30 and that the time was wrong. no apology!!!Pool always looked very dirty with lots of fallen leaves. I didn't see anyone cleaning it out at all during our stay and I would have thought this should have been done at least every day to keep on top of it. That being said a few people were using it.There is so much wasted potential which could make this hotel a real gem. It hides behind the word boutique but in reality it is little tired, the food choice very poor and expensive. It needs more atmosphere in the evening to encourage guests to use the facilities rather than having to look for it elsewhere. Signage from reception pointing out route to "standard" rooms one way and "suites" the other gives the immediate impression of segregation and inferiority for anyone using the "standard" rooms which is not very welcoming. Give the accommodation sections "Wing" names instead it is not a hard thing to change. Garden Wing - Pool Wing etc. We had met some lovely people everywhere else we stayed in Costa Rica but this hotel did not create a friendly ambience or have anywhere to congregate to "chill" comfortably in the evenings to enjoy a "sundowner" or swap holiday anecdotes.
Right on the beach on Playa Potrero. Absolutely beautiful setting. Beach itself isn't the prettiest I have seen, but that was ok, lots of nice beaches in the area. Loved that several restaurants and a small market for coke and snacks were within walking distance. Great air conditioner, wifi, beds and towel exchange. Only complaint was breakfast -- it was delicious, but you could only order one thing. When I'm in a new country, I like to try a lot of the local foods, and breakfast buffets are usually good for this. Certainly not a huge negative.
Rooms were very specious-we had deluxe, clean, quiet. Internet was terrible, so if you need to stay connected be prepared. Location right on the beach with plenty of lounge chairs and nice shade. Service was good. Breakfast was small. Beach was calm and very clean with good swimming. We would definitely stay here again. Overall very nice experience.
This is a quiet and well kept hotel. The breakfast is top notch and the staff are super friendly and helpful, especial thanks to Gabriela for all the recommendations for tours and restaurants. The beach in front of the hotel is not the best unfortunately (black sand, oil and jellyfish), but a 30 min walk on the beach takes you to Flamingo beach, with very good restaurants and a nice white sand beach
I really enjoyed my time at Bahia del Sol Hotel, the hotel is very nice and comfortable but my favorite part was the restaurant, it has a lovely view to the ocean and of course the I have to come back to get more ceviche and tuna tartar as they were my favorite items on the menu. I recommend to go during sunset time as they have a happy hour and who doesn't like 50% off drinks!
