Ideal Location!

We booked this hotel through Expedia and are very happy to have found it. The hotel is in the center of Playas Del Coco with an easy walk to the beach and all nearby restaurants. The Coco Beach Hotel has a wonderful pool, amazing bar and an excellent restaurant. The prices are very competitive and the drinks at the bar are about the best in town. All of the staff have been overwhelmingly friendly and helpful. The spa next door is wonderful, with very cheap services. The adjoining casino has been very good to us, except the blackjack table. I highly recommend this hotel, restaurant, bar, casino and spa.

Exactly as expected

Reviews on this site were very helpful. We chose this hotel due to the price $779 incl flight, hotel and taxes from Toronto. We couldn't get a flight alone for that price. Beds are comfortable, included breakfast is fine. Btw a lot of people complain about the bad service at the restaurant... if you're getting a free breakfast and are therefore not tipping, it is to be expected that the staff are not going to go out of their way. We tipped the staff and when we wanted more coffee, we just helped ourselves. Reuben was especially nice. True, some of the bars are loud at night if possible, I would ask for a room further away from the Casino. Our room was in the middle of the hotel and it was fine. Checkin is pretty strict at 3pm but you can leave your bags at the front desk. AC units are up to date. There's a safe in the room. Water pressure is so/so but hot water always available. Any questions, just ask. But overall, great value for the money. Cheers.

This place is a mess! Staff has bad attitudes and service sucks!

This place is a mess. The rooms do not smell good. The room had unclean sheets. We could not get wifi reception in the rooms either. The staff has an attitude and is not friendly at all. The only person who is super nice is Merlin! One morning we waited for over an hour to get our breakfast. They came to us with the check and we were like we have not eaten! Only drinks! If you ask the reception a question it is like you are bugging them. To ask for a taxi is a problem too! Do not waste your time or money! Only went here because the dive operator recommended it!

Hostel type hotel

This is an old, fairly run down hotel on the main drag of Coco Beach. As a Canadian, the closest comparison I could draw to the state of the room was of a ‘no-tell-motel’ that you would play for by the hour for here. I think the 3 star rating is because they have working air conditioning. The toilet seats are worn, the walls dirty and the decor bland.We were there for 7 nights over the Christmas break. The first few nights the music from the pool/dining area was very loud but as the week went on it was quieter. The service for food is very slow and the prices are above average for the area. The sounds from the nearby Coconutz bar were audible until early morning hours and a few homeless people live in the ally between the hotel and the next building.We did enjoy the view of the strip while we ate breakfast and often waved at an obviously mentally ill man who frequented the area next to the gift shop across the street. The day before we left we asked the front desk what time our shuttle to the airport would arrive and were told between 10:00-10:30 but that they would let us know for sure.The next morning we took our final stroll on the beach and arrived back at 9:00 only to be told that the shuttle had already left without us and that it would coast us 40.00$ American to catch the next shuttle to the airport. We were also told that it was out fault for missing it because we didn’t check back more often for updates. Out thought that was in such a small hotel they could have called up to our room or left us a note to tell us to prepare to leave earlier. We guessed it was a ploy for the young male employee to get some type cut. There is no balcony but we brought chairs into the hallway so we could get out of the room before bed. If you are looking for a budget hotel and have low expectations this will work for you.

Terrible hotel, Casino blaring music until 5am, terrible customer service. Stay anywhere else.

Stay anywhere else in Coco, this place is a hole. Literally the worst hotel. If I could give it zero I would. I booked in for five days. I knew it was on the main street so there would be street noise. Instead on my first night I was kept awake by the hotel’s own casino until 5am. Even with ear plugs in the music was blasting. I got no sleep at all.The next morning I went to reception and said I would need to change hotels, I was in Coco to scuba dive not party. I needed sleep and rest. I said I would pay for the first night but not the rest. The receptionist did not correct me. I went away, booked another hotel. When I came to check out I was presented with a form (more on that later) which the receptionist said just confirmed I wanted to check out due to noise. I signed it without reading it (having had zero sleep I wasn’t with it) and was then told I would receive no refund for the remainder of my stay. I asked to speak to a manager but was told I would have to wait another 3 days before I could. Customer service from the receptionist was non existent. He accepted it was noisy and music had been playing until 5am but no apology was offered. I was not told it was a one off, I was not offered another hotel. They did offer me another hotel room but the hotel is small and the levels of noise I had experienced would be the same in one room as another. I was told I would have to speak to for any refund and that had my money, the hotel had not received it - have confirmed this is not true. I have since been in contact with the owner. He refused to deal with me initially and would only go through which shows what a shambles this hotel is. He has refused to give me a refund. Various lies have been said, that I was told there was going to be noise, that I was offered another hotel, that I was told the noise was a one off. All of which is simply not true. The form which I signed (stupidly without reading) says I checked out due to noise but don’t want a refund, even though about 2 minutes after signing that form I asked for a refund. The manager accepts that a hotel is for sleeping (of which I got none) but says the form means it’s impossible for me to have a refund, even a partial refund apparently. This is a preprepared form which they have made up. It’s not official and would not prevent them from issuing a refund. The very fact this hotel has this form preprepared indicates obscene levels of noise from the casino is a regular problem which warrants a form. I am genuinely shocked at the lack of customer service. I have been given the run around and spent a lot of time on my holiday emailing back and forth with the manager saying I would get some kind of refund but then a few days later saying I wouldn’t because of the form. It’s a joke. He had no intention of refunding me and just wasted my time. In terms of the hotel itself, ridiculous noise levels aside, the rooms are average, bathrooms tiny, the pool is on the main road so a bit grim, WiFi doesn’t work in the bedrooms and the staff were not very friendly. Ultimately the noise is from the hotels own casino. Something under their control. They have such little respect for their guests that keeping them up until 5am with music is not an issue for them.Go elsewhere!
