Barcelo San Jose Palacio
- What's Included
Location: Hillside, 5 min to downtown San Jose, 15 min from the San Jose airport.
The hotel is not in a good location. It is not walking distance to any shops or restaurants. If you ask the hotel for a taxi they can only assist with hotel taxis which are about 3 times the price of local taxis. The free airport shuttle bus does not operate 24 hours a day and was not available at the time my flight arrived. The food served in the bar is average and very expensive.
Booked club premium rooms on the 6th Floor. Rooms were clean and spacious.Nice bar with complimentary snacks and drinks. Easy check in and out. Free Airport Shuttle bus available Roughly 15 mins to Airport. Not impressed with the food served in the bar and it's very noisy. Good for overnight stop at beginning or end of holiday.
Wow the people that work there are very nice and helpful but the installations are really in bad shape AND AGAIN AND DO NOT EAT THERE. The food is horrible and extremely expensive. I will say that around that area there are 100 of better hotels
I stayed at Barceló San Jose for three nights. It is way off the beaten path but the building, lobby and room were in excellent shape. The check in was flawless and the front desk person helped me set up the Internet on my computer. The Internet is a little slow but adequate. The room is good. The bathroom was good. There are two restaurants and one poolside grill. The food was average and service was incredibly slow. I mean I sat there for 30 minutes after ordering before my appetizer came. The service in the international restaurant was well below average. The food was average once it came. The waiters were rude. The morning buffet was the same every morning. Nothing was different. The Japanese restaurant was one I ordered room service from and although it was decent the amount of meat provided on the sushi rolls was minimal at best. The fish were about 2 mm in size and about 2 centimeters in length. Clearly, there was a meat shortage. The pool setting was nice and quiet except for nearby traffic. The nicest thing about this hotel was the inexpensive price per night to stay here. However, the worst thing about the place is the location being away from everything and the lack of a good nearby restaurant and the Internet was weak and at times it did not work. Also, there is a cost to use the telephone at all, even for local calls. Also, I wish to mention the daily hammering that went on for many minutes to a few hours off and on. That was annoying and so was the spot light right outside my window, which was used to light up the building at night. Finally, when I was ready to leave the hotel, I asked the bald headed front desk man if he knew whether the volcano nearby was going off or spilling ash recently and he told me to go to Channel 7 on the television and listen to the news reports. I said that is a channel only in Spanish and I do not speak Spanish fluently and he said that was all I could do. Pathetic. I will not stay here again.
Recently stayed at this hotel with my family and loved it. We stayed on the 6 th floor which had premium services- a concierge desk open all day and a lounge with free beverages ( coffee, tea, wine, beer, juices ), breakfast, light lunch and light dinner options throughout the day. Such a treat especially with our kids who seem to always be hungry. Our room was clean and spacious and the shower had excellent water pressure. The staff were very friendly. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the pool was a bit cold but lovely after a hot day. The pool also had hammocks and comfortable lounge chairs. The gym at the hotel was also great with steam room, sauna and hot tub. Can't say enough to recommend this hotel- was a great find and a great price. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
