I traveled to Tryp with my two small children and my mother on December 15-23 2017. Despite the hotel not being completely up and running due to Hurricane Irma aftermath we absolutely loved our stay because we knew what to expect and therefore kept open minds about it and were blown away. We were met with the upmost of service by everyone we met. The food was great. The beach is the best in Cayo Coco. We have stayed at Pullman, Melia and Sol. We are beach lovers and this is our favourite outside of Playa Pilar. Our rooms were clean and always had what we needed. If we needed extra water or a towels all we had to do was ask and someone would bring that to us. No complaints here. Our maid and crew was amazing. Beach bar and lobby bar are where it’s at. Great service. Top notch and fun. I traveled with my two kids and they loved playing in the pool there are little slides for small children and the kids club activities were great. The lady running it is top notch with kids. This resort once it’s completed its overhaul from Irma will be number one. Christian (General Manager) is doing a fantastic job and has the best people to facilitate this being the best in Cayo Coco. We are looking forward to going back again and seeing all our new friends with all the new restaurants and beautiful changes to this great hotel. Gracias!
We were so excited to travel to Cayo Coco, and, let me start with the positive, the beach and the ocean did not disappoint!!! (Absolutely beautiful)... but this hotel, it definitely DID disappoint us!!!First of all, and worst of all, it was almost impossible to get drinking water. You get one bottle in your room every day, but a one and a half litre bottle shared between two adults is not enough for one day! And all the bars and restaurants will give you a small cup of water, but no bottle to take upstairs with you! (I did end up finding one bartender who was nice enough to give me water, but he warned me not to tell other guests, because they are not allowed to give out water)... Really sad, especially in comparison to how easy you can get alcohol the entire time!!!Then, the staff was completely rude! Whenever we had questions to ask, they sent us to customer services (and that was also the only place where the staff was nice), but especially at the reception, people never helped us and were never friendly! Also, they gave us straight out false information! We asked how long the bus to playa pilar would take, and they told us halb an hour... well, it took us 2 hours!!!! If we had known that, we would have obviously planned our day differently!!! (because of this, we only had half an hour at playa pilar...)Also, it was almost impossible for us to reserve a spot at an a la carte restaurant. When we asked how to do that, people kept sending us back and forth, telling us we just missed it, are too early, etc. It was really ridiculous!Especially since the food at the buffet was basically inedible! And if you have to eat there 8 times in a row.... it's rough! In the end we got sick just from walking in and smelling that place! The room we stayed in was ok. It was clean, the balcony was nice, but the beds were extremely uncomfortable. There was some sort of wooden bar sticking out in the middle. And it gets really painful it that presses into your hip or back all night long....Such a big disappointment overall!!!!The only reason I am giving two points instead of just one is that the lady at customer service was really sweet, and the beach and swimming pools are really nice! And the staff at the water sports center! We had a great time snorkelling with them and sailing out on a small catamaran!
Not ready yet after hurricaneOverall the stay was ok however I do not believe that this resort is quite ready to open after the hurricane. There is a lack of public washrooms, the beach washrooms are not operational at all, and there are no washrooms available at the the pool at all. The only public washrooms were outside of the buffet, or in the lobby bar but they were only 1/2 operational as stalls were close and daily and there was a foul smell coming from all of them. The food was adequate, but nothing to write home about. After all it is buffet everyday. They did have 3 fresh cooking stations open at each sittingbreakfast had 2 egg / omelet and 1 French toast / pancake station and they did have bacon every morningLunch and supper had -1 meat station (pork chops, chicken, steak and liver) The chicken and pork were very good-1 fish station with 5 varieties daily1- pasta stationAnd the also had a pizza station most lunches and suppersThe rooms were older but they were ok for Cuba. They had a tv with about 6 English channels including stars, and Disney for kids. They had double pillows and extra blankets already in the room where it normally takes a few days to get these. The downside was there was some plumbing problems on a couple days with backup. The staff were excellent in all areas including customer service, reception, the bars and restaurants. The pools were all open and in good running condition however there were no lifeguards at the pool or beachMy suggestion is if you want to stay here is wait till next year. They are working daily in the resort but it’s still not readyAs far as Cayo Coco goes the island was hit hard by the hurricane, there are many resorts that are not in operation and there appears to be no effort to fix them. Also the weather was bad for 3 days while we were there and the town was about $100 to go to and an hour each way so not much to do when it’s cliydt and rainy
Hi,The hotel is simply not ready yet for guests after Irma. The food is terrible, absolutely nothing to eat for a conscious eater, don't even bother with ala carte. We both got sick after 5 days, and it wasn't from overeating and overdrinking. Rooms are nice because they had been renovated after Irma. No mold smell, good cleaning, free safe, hot water, light, TV - no problem. Entertainemnt ok, dancers are working very very hard. Alcohols - the good ones disappeared after day #4.A lot of Cubanos came and created noise and mess The beach is not cleaned daily. My husband left something onboard flying to Cuba. There is absolutely no way I can get hold of anyone from Sunwing now, forovver a week. I've left numerous messages, send an email, filled out an online form....nothing back from Sunwing. I guess they are just thieves, those Sunwing employees...
ProsGreat ocean Clean beachesFriendly hardworking staffEntertainment not as great as it was years ago Cons Dates roomsResort needs upkeep & major repairs Food was mediocre but that’s everywhere in Cuba
