With all the stories going around of nightmares in during hurricane Irma I thought I would give you a good story for once. My family and I were in Cayo Coco traveling before hurricane Irma we arrived on Sept-04 we were traveling with Air Canada let me make this clear we were made very aware that there was a hurricane and that we may be evacuated. On our first morning at Tryp (our favorite place in the world been there 4 times) the Air Canada Rep Manuel told use what to expect they had 3 plans from putting us in buffet area to moving us into Cuba to complete evacuation. We were told to check morning and night at front desk for any up dates about storm. Manuel came and found us to let us know that we would be evacuated. We went to airport on thursday morning went a little slow as computer kept crashing but no big deal. Air Canada flew us to Montreal as this was not our airport they put me and my family of 10 in hotel and gave us meal vouchers we had no out of pocket expenses at all they then flew us to Toronto and those with connecting flight found all arrangement made for us we were back in North Bay ON by 11 am Friday morning not having seen any bad weather. As sorry as I am that our trip was cut short all I Can say is that the people that mean the most to me in the world were looked after and keep safe because of Air Canada I have only ever traveled with Air Canada and will be a loyal customer and will never fly with anyone else and will be going back to Tryp Cayo Coco as soon as they re-open.
We would return to the resort again.Beach is lovely, rooms were spotless and the people were very friendly.A la cartes were great. The main pool was very clean and there was always something going on.
First- thanks to Air Canada for evacuating us during Hurricane Irma's path. I hope everyone in that path stays safe. The good-staff are very friendly. Food is edible but limited. The bad-water runs some times. Rooms are horrible and haven't been updated since the 70s. Well, the whole resort needs an overhaul. Toilets don't actually flush. There is no beach to lay on as the water reaches to the bank.I have been to 2 completely different places in Cuba and I will never go again.
To the attention of : Yolanda PenadoQuality Manager Object: Hotel Tryp Cayo Coco ( Melia Hotels and resorts)Dear Yolanda PenadoDuring our (12 times) last visit to Cayo Coco, we opted to try Tryp Cayo Coco. Agust 18 to 25.1-The reservaion, reception and room:- We did our booking with the collaboration of M. Oreste Guirola Manzano Comercial / Sales Manager. He did a excelent job in fufilling our request. 9.5/10-The room was old but clean , 6.5/10. (no screens in the door windows. Rooms need update but ok-The sea view ,terrific 9/10. -Maria, our room lady did a great job. 9/10. -The reception at the arrival and during our stay very good if not great .8.5/10. But the sofas in the lobby are not clean but dirty and need a good wash. Not the correct materal for a lobby sofa.2- The beach:- Beautiful 9/10. -No service at the beach, only one bar. That did not open at the right time or closed for some reason? 5/10. No classes ???-Few and full garbage (for three days) cans at the beach. 4/103- Lobby bar and snack bar.- POOR SERVICE no service at the tables. Had to explain to some of the staff ,that if they want tips they should do the rounds. 5/104- The buffet.- 90 % Very, very bad service, the worst we have ever had in Cayo Coyo. Indifference, incompetence and cold. There seems to be a problem with the people who manage the staff, because the Cuban people and staff is never that unhappy to give such a bad service. The buffet is surly under staffed and unhappy with the direction. Spoke with M. Oreste about the situation. He was very professional and said he would transmit our observations to the directors concerned. He even gave us a: on reservation dinner to avoid us another misery at the buffet. The next day we accidently met M. Oreste and the general manager Christian .... I must say i was disappointed in the general managers attitude towards our dissatisfaction about the Buffet. Bad service ,under staffed, not opening on time. Waiting in line (25 MIN) for breakfast while a whole section outside is closed ??He seemed to be more interested in going to the cocktail at the beach than hearing our complaints. No excuses, just: "we know and your opinion is important for us". In our opinion and many other guest opinion. Because ALL THE CUSTOMERS (11) WE SPOKE TO, WERE,VERY, VERY DISSATISFID WITH THE SERVICE AT THE BUFFET AND THE CHOICE OF FOOD IT WAS VERY LIMITED IN CHOICE . Again we think the problem is at the top not with the staff. Impossible to have such bad service in Cuba unless there is a managerial problem at the top ,bad scheduling of staff and evident understaffing . The buffet windows were very smudged ,not fun to look dirty windows while you eat .No coffee service in the morning, not enough coffee our cups ......A DESASTER, Horrible. After two terrible supers there ,we only had breakfast there and it was difficult. On morning a lady finaly asked what would you like, i said "un cafe con lèche y un cafe regular." They never came??On evening orded more win never came?? No clean up service etc...1/10The restaurants a la cartes. Food good service very good. 8.5/105- The restaurant at the beach. The food was very good and well cooked. a limited menu that should be worked on. The service excelent thanks to Guillermo 8.5/10. That restaurant and the good service of Guillermo ,the view from the room and the beach saved the day.Our conclusion: The location and the spread of the hotel is one of the best. close to the beach, great sea views from rooms. The only problem is that it s old and need URGENTLY to be refreshed and updated. If it was refreshed and updated it would be 4 stars site. So we do not recommend Tryp Cayo Coco unless you like a great view of the sea, a beautiful beach , an old but clean hotel and you can endure a bad buffet and very bad service due to the bad management of the direction. The opinion expressed here are ,ours and with the results of discussion and opinions of multiple unsatisfied customers and staff. EVALUATION OF Tryp Cayo Coco 3/10 August 2017 Because of the inacceptable quality of the service at the buffet, bars and the bad management of the situation.
We've been twice now, and likely will return again, the beach is gorgeous - main pool is fantastic and the a la carte's were all above average. The swamp area outside the disco is really the only downside, that smell is not pleasant!Awesome time though, great bartenders, specifically at the restaurant by the beach and at the pool!
