JUST WOW !!!!!

My husband and I just returned from a fabulous vacation at this hotel. Thanks to all the great staff for taking such good care of us. Thanks goes out to a special lady Yaidelis customer service manager. Yaidelis from the moment we arrived you took such good care of us with a beautiful room and our reservations all taken care of for us. You are a very special lady for sure. All the staff worked very hard and even when things got crazy busy on Valentine's day you all tried to please all of us and do your very best. Bartenders were all great my two friends Leinier and Alain thank you for making me special drinks each and every day. The hotel is not overly big and easy to get around and the beach was just amazing. The pools were all nice but we mostly spent our time at the pool between building 15 and 7 the pool was deeper and just perfect for us. We will be back for sure my friends !!!!

All of the entertainment team at this hotel were amazing. So fun, so kind to be around. Rico, one of the entertainers was my favourite. He is very talented and a hard working guy. He’s very fun to be around and treated us very well on our trip.

Overall Good Vacation

By Cuban standards, this hotel was above average, not a 3, but also not a 4. Check in was quick and we had a bite to eat and a drink until room was available at 4 pm. The room was standard but in building 7, which was close to the beach and pool we preferred to sit at. Room was cleaned every day to our satisfaction. The beach was beautiful, and we walked it every day. We were lucky and had a week full of sun (windy tho). The hotel appeared to be at 50% occupancy, and as such the staff was limited definitely affecting service in our opinion as we didn't feel the ratio was adequate. This could have affected staff morale, as more often then not, the staff seemed unhappy/unfriendly. A large portion of our spending while on vacation is dedicated to tipping, but this didn't seem to improve the mood. We wondered if the reduced number of staff could have also contributed to the lack of cleanliness throughout the resort. Common bathrooms were not very clean and were in disrepair, and there were cigarette butts everywhere! If planning a family vacation, this would be a good place to go as there are many families with small children. Food was limited with no variation throughout the week. Standouts were the Romantico a la carte (food and service), the made to order fried rice, and omelettes in the morning. Oh yes, the groundskeepers were always super friendly and happy to acknowledge you. If going back to CSM, I would definitely try another hotel.

3rd Time and will not be the last!

We stayed at Hotel Playa from January 26- February 6,2018. This was our 3rd visit to the resort and enjoyed every minute.Check in was smooth and loved our room in building 7 with a pool/ ocean view.The resort looks amazing considering less than 6 months ago Irma hit. I thought the food was really good this visit, I found the buffet to have many choices. Although you still hear many complaints about the food, if you’re not happy go elsewhere and pay more to hopefully have better food!I’d like to send a special thank you to Yailet for making my ala cart reservations in advance. We are at the Romantico, Italian and the Asian and they were all delicious.There was many new staff as well as many we have seen in previous visits.... I’d like to thank Laline, Yandy, Osvanny, Lienesiev and Yulianny for amazing service these people stood out and made our vacation one to remember!I love the new beach it is totally amazing!There are a couple areas that need improvement though, in force the smoking policy in the smoking areas or make a separate smoking area out of the lobby..... there were people smoking everywhere which is not fair for people with allergies or asthma. Possibly in time replace the mattresses as well as pillows, I understand you can’t do them all at once but they are showing their age!I would totally recommend this resort to others and I will definitely be returning. Thank you Playa and I hope to see you soon!

Late review- Post hurricane visit

This was my 7th visit to Hotel Playa Cayo Santa Maria. It was a semi-last minute decision to go post hurricane Irma. I stayed the week of November 11-18, 2016. The hotel was not at capacity due to not all tour operators had returned at this point. In the short period of time that the hotel was closed for repairs, the staff and all helping did a wonderful job repairing, repainting and making the place presentable for guests again. Of course things will not be 100% perfect. The foliage was not regrown, but it was definitely starting to come back. Work still remained to be done around the resort, but for the most part it was ready to receive guests. The Ranchon was still being repaired, as was the pool near building 8. Again, this was the second week open in November.There was a lot of changes in staff, but the ones who remained were glad to see all repeat clients. Food was good throughout the week. We had lobster on 5 of our 7 nights there. If you are expecting the grand buffets of the Mayan Riviera or Dominican Republic, you might want to pay the prices for those resorts and go there instead. The buffets are very basic, but the food is good. You will not starve. It was wonderful to see Laline at the beer garden, Ruben at the main pol, Yolexy at the snack bar, Mildrey in the a la cartes, Yani and Jorge Luis in the cigar lounge, Lienesev with the coffee cart, and Lisdania and Pitbull from the entertainment team. Each of them made our stay as enjoyable as our previous visits. The only downfall for this visit was having to visit customer service a number of times to inquire about dinner reservations and invites to the repeat guest dinner. Nothing had been prepared in advance despite us being told we would receive the information in our room. In the end, all was sorted. We hope to make a return visit in May.
