Our Opinion

Iberostar Ensenachos is a resort suited for those who like larger properties and big resorts. The Iberostar provides top-notch luxury service and is the only 5 star in Cayo Santa Maria that accepts children. The resort is situated along one of Cuba's most beautiful beaches. The service from staff is extremely attentive and pleasant. For those wanting top-notch luxury and the most out of their all-inclusive experience, the Iberostar Ensenachos is the perfect destination.

This stunning resort, set on a spectacular white powdery sand beach that stretches over 2.6 kilometres, offers all the luxury one expects from a hotel of this class. Experience some of the finest facilities anywhere in dazzling surroundings!

Don't listen to negative reviews! Please read!

Firstly, I have NEVER reviewed a hotel on tripadvisor before however; I feel obligated to do so now due to the negative recounts of others as, I must stress, this was NOT the experience my boyfriend and I had. We booked a package holiday with TUI and flew from Manchester, however we are originally from Scotland. We stayed from the 4/7/17 - 18/7/17.Full disclaimer - the hotel is not perfect and is not without it's faults but we didn't find any of these ruined or negatively affected our holiday. Reception/Lobby:Upon arrival, we were greeted with friendly staff and offered a welcome drink. Our entire checking in experience took a maximum of 15 minutes even with people in front of us also checking in. The staff were very efficient, spoke perfect english and made us feel welcome. They provided us with helpful information and directed us to a buggy which took us and our luggage straight to our room. The buggy driver politely offered to help us upstairs with our luggage but we were able to do it ourselves. Room:We stayed in building 29 in one of the rooms on the upper floor. The room had a HUGE super king size bed, one of the biggest I've ever seen and was perfectly comfortable. The sheets were fresh, clean and well presented. The room itself had all necessary amenities we needed, including hairdryer, safe, iron and working television. Our minibar was not stocked upon arrival however; a member of staff showed up shortly to take requests on what we wanted (e.g. beer, water, soft drinks) and was generously filled up. The only down side to our room was that we did not have a ceiling fan to circulate the air con. Upon first arrival, it felt very hot in the room but overtime the air con felt much stronger and we are convinced it must have been cleaned/fixed for us during housekeeping. The room was cool and refreshing to return to after a long day outside. Toilet/shower etc all worked perfectly fine. No complaints. Housekeeping came by every single day to change towels and tidy up. Sheets were changed every 3 days as per the instructions left in the room; however, these can be changed more often if requested. Food:To begin, my boyfriend and I did not travel to Cuba expecting 5 star cuisine and if you are, do not travel here. Simple as that. No matter what hotel you're staying in, (we spoke to other people during excursions etc), the food is not great. We managed to eat every night and I'm sure anyone could find SOMETHING to eat. We agree that cross contamination and refrigeration issues could be improved and we tended to avoid any food we weren't 100% sure of. Service could be improved with more staff as it does get very busy but we always managed to get a choice of drinks and a clean table. During our time at the buffet we saw families with piles of food on their plates. Nobody went hungry as far as we could tell. Yes, there are queues for pasta etc but they do not take hours as previously suggested. There are 5 a la carte restaurants in the hotel. The gourmet restaurant is not included but definitely worth a visit. It costs 25 CUC per person and one of the best meals we had! We would also recommend the mediterranean restaurant for great seafood and to watch the sunset which was wonderful every night. Most importantly - WE WERE NOT SICK ONCE and had NO other stomach/bowel related illnesses during or after our stay. Pool/Beach:We stayed in the Spa section (adults only) and visited the pool daily after spending the mornings at the beach. We have absolutely no complaints about the pool whatsoever. Someone was on hand to fetch us cushions for the wooden sunbeds as soon as we arrived and the bar staff at the swim up bar are fantastic. I've read other negative accounts about the fact there were children at the pool and that the staff did not enforce the adults only rule. We didn't see one child in the pool area at all whilst we were here. (not that we would be bothered by children enjoying themselves on holiday anyway!) The beaches are breathtaking and we will never forget how beautiful they are. We preferred Ensenachos beach which is a 2 minute buggy journey away from the main lobby. The buggys could do with being more frequent but this did not ruin our holiday. Again, we always managed to find sunbeds at the beach and staff are very attentive, getting drink orders from you and bringing these right to you. Honestly, the most wonderful white sand and clear blue water we have ever seen. A must! Entertainment: Every night, there is live music in the main lobby with seats in and around the lobby bar which created a lovely, family friendly atmosphere. We were served by polite, friendly staff who were both efficient and attentive. Not once did we feel we had to give a tip in order to be served. There is a kids show about 8:30pm which we never went to however we did attend a few 'adult shows' at 9:30pm. The entertainment was okay. Each night is a different theme (boogie nights, tropical, filmmania etc) which were all fairly similar in format, featuring music and dancers. The entertainment did feel quite dated and could definitely do with a more modern spin but if we didn't fancy it we were able to make our own fun, which any traveller should be able to do!Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel. I am someone who panics after reading negative reviews online but please do not let any of the previous ones ruin your perception of this hotel. If you are someone who likes to complain then I'm sure you'll find something to complain about but if you go with a positive, open mind then you will have a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend this resort for anyone thinking of visiting Cayo Santa Maria.

perfect holiday for snorkelers

one of the most beautiful stretch of beach in Cuba. they have 2 beach in this resort ensenachos and megano beach. both are about 1/2 a mile long and is connected by a coral reef in the middle. marine life is abundant at the reef. rays, groupers, lobsters, lion fish, puffer fish, blue tang, moray eels, and conch is quite a common sight. there is a ship wreck at the far side of megano beach which makes snorkeling more interesting for daring souls. food is good, service is good and the rooms has marbled floor. the bathroom is marbled wall to wall, shower stall plus a bathtub and a separate room for number2. altogether it was a perfect holiday. great value for my hard earned canadian dollars. please tip as much as you can, they don't make much but they try so hard to empress you.

Worst hotel I've ever experienced!

This place shouldn't be aloud a one star! I have already reviewed this hotel with 100% honesty, but trip advisor will not approve it! Clearly my information on this place shocks the internet!!!So I'll keep it short....Food, you'd be fed better in prison! We were all vomiting and running to the toilet on day 4 for our entire holiday! Hygiene standards do not exist here!!!!Public toilets, full of flies and people's waste all over the toilet seats. We chose to stay away from the beach for 2 days as the ladies had faeces smeared all over the toilet (and there's only 1 ladies toilet on the beach). Staff refused to clean it when challenged! Rooms, furniture hanging off, shower held on by zip ties, paint chipped, stained sheets, broken patio furniture and cockroaches.Staff, unpleasant unless you're holding money in your hands for them! Otherwise you get your drink shoved at you. Pools, hazardous to say the least. Tiles missing, vents broken. Easy for children to become sick when they're pouring chlorine in there at 9am when kids are playing!!!! All this was reported to the Rep, told us this is the best hotel so don't bother moving! In my opinion this place should not be open to the public. It's a danger to children by the pool and the food makes you sick. Just stay away!

Nightmare IBEROSTAR Hotel rating 1star !!

This place is NOT NOT NOT a 5 star hotel....I know there are other reports on this hotel but this is my experience.. you will find my views are very similarly others which confirms that this hotel falls way way short of a 5 stars... Shame really because it could be a stunning place to holiday BUT Iberostar need act now before nobody wants to go there...Ever! I know we will not return and advise to think twice about booking for here ...Some staff work hard but the majority need trained in customer relations...Reception....Poor reception staff, unfriendly, rude, unhelpful, no idea on how to deal with simple problems, some staff can't speak English, ...no welcome drink, had to fill in a registration for each person...Birds fly through reception and land on tables constantly . mozzie and flies in abundance ... (I know they are common but a little help dispersing them would make it a bit more comfortable, Nets for the birds .. candles on tables at night for the mozzies)First Room ......lower ground room. dark, smelly, dirty, toilet would not flush!! Large towel in stuffed in fridge (to stop water leaking out), noisy overhead fan, unsafe wires sticking out, terraced door would not lock... 3 x people with two beds ?... totally unacceptable ...After returning to reception where we had to battle with managers to replace room ..(2 x other families in heated discussion about rooms etc)Told no other room available for 2 days ? We were given their best room first time?Tried to usher us out of reception and told to come back in morning. After making a stand/fuss/commotion/noise/demand/ a Second room found for us!!Second room ...This was an upper with balcony...first impressions was better than first roomHuge double bed and a single bed !...Coffee machine,..mini fridge... tv...dvs player... Cold light of day.. dirty floors, glass door to balcony filthy, curtains had black mildew, balcony floor filthy, toilet walls sick marks, pillows smelled off sweat, cushions had dirty oily marks and smelled of sweat... shower door wouldn't shut so water all over floor!.No towels for three days.. none left..Bed sheets not changed ....Single bed sheet had black mould on it...Floor never washed in the time we were there..Balcony floor same ..not washed at all ..flies were sticking to floor now! I could go on but onto but something else ..Family Pool ..we couldn't use the adult pool as not allowed! (Although some families did)..First impressions looked ok.. until you relise how dirty it was .. the area around the pool dirty.. some soap and and brush would have cleaned this.. the tiles around the pool black and green with scum... insects floating, broken tiles, sharp edges, 300mm square hole by 300mm deep in bottom..filter cover missing - just about broke my ankle!!..When looking inside filters around pool they were green with scum, hairs and bandages, they had not been cleaned out for some time...The pool staff we seen were sitting in the shade and not interested... WIFI ..(not free as told by Tui) useless at best ... pay for an hour card but you can't get on.. slow and only if you are within small radius of reception.... Restaurant....Where do I start... No hand cleanser as you enter ..One door in and out..(there is another door but not used)Nobody at door over seeing entrance...Buggies left at door so causing a hazard.. Bland food..what should be hot was cold .. and what should be cold warm!Pizza .. ! small in size, not enough of them, took ages to make...no idea what was in them, .Pasta .. always a que.Butter ..rancid.Rolls .. hard.Tables and chairs filthy.Floor even more filthy..Windows filthy and never cleaned....Flies always evident ..land on your food, drinking glass, etc..(In the two weeks we were there floor never got cleaner)Cross contamination very evvident..Unhygenic..staff don't wear gloves..Flies on food.. (all the time, by the way don't touch the ice cream)..Beach's ..Megano and Ensenachos Can't fault these at all...clean sand, and sunbeds a plenty ...Clear water, fish, crabs, galore,Beach Bar ... Ok .. but watch out on the plastic cups and straw being washed and reused...Beach Snack Bar ..Birds eat the food before you...Hygene not the best.. .Toilets are too close to where you eat...Chips cooked in same frier as fish!!Birds sit on tables next to YOU...

Dire hygiene standards, appalling customer service

In over 35 years of travelling abroad this is the first time that I have ever made a complaint and the first time I have felt compelled to write a review which I believe is necessary to warn any holidaymakers who have booked or are considering booking this hotel. We travelled as a family of 4 and booked through Thomson and expected a 5 star a la carte holiday.. How wrong we were. On arrival at Manchester airport we booked our luggage in to find that Thomson had given our seats away and instead of being seated together we were moved to 4 different rows, no matter how much we complained . The goodSuperb beaches and groundsThe diabolicalThe rep. He will tell you nobody has made a complaint and that any sickness is due to the fact that the British moan too much. Don't expect a copy of your complaint instantly as ours took 11 days to be sent to us . Do not sign the report as this appears to state that you are happy with the complaint resolution which is a joke. I personally witnessed at least 5 people registering complaints and he is only there on a few occasions.The room. We had 2 rooms in the Park Section which were in need of complete refurbishment. A youth hostel would be better equipped and certainly cleaner. For example the balcony door wouldn't lock, vomit on walls and doors which were there for the duration of our stay even though this was reported, the toilet seat fell off and hit me on the back and has rusty fittings, thick mould on floor, fan hanging dangerously off, wires showing, the other room was just as bad the toilet door wouldn't,t shut at all and the bathroom door if shut locked you in and had to be forced open, one light bulb for a large bedroom shower head broken and much more I could go on. The filth on the doors and floors and sheets were disgusting. If you need bottled water then the best of luck as you will have to waste hours chasing it even when you require if for health reasons. Our dirty towels were hung out to dry on the balcony with the obvious intention to place them back in the bathroom, this happened twice to us, don,t expect your sheets to be changed, welcome to 5 star luxury......not!The foodAt best I would rate it as diabolical although you may be expecting lower standards in Cuba nothing can prepare you for what you receive. If you can find a clean table you are lucky, there are flies and cockroaches all over the food and this is inside the main buffet. Cross contamination is normal with utensils used for the raw and then cooked meats. The cold food is not cold and is sweaty and warm, the butter has the most rancid vile smell you imagine and be careful with the milk as it is left for hours and is curdled. The pool bar has flies and lots of birds flying onto the tables and landing on the food, vomit on the floor and left for some time. The staff are useless and make no attempt to maintain standards and keep the birds away. The beach bar restaurant are appalling. The birds don't even have to wait for the food to get to the tables as they eat from the prepared food and again no attempt is made to scare them off or cover the food, amazingly we watched numerous eat from this restaurant oblivious to the health risks they were exposed to.We complained to Iberostar who had no interest to see the issues for themselves even though we offered to show them. If you have young children you have no way out. There are no hotels nearby that except children and you can't upgrade to the Grand Village as such be aware once there you will not be able to escape. If you upgrade to the Spa section you still eat in the same main buffet. As far a la carte I have seen better at a truck stop.All 4 of us were ill at some stage of the stay with sickness, diareah, storm cramps, nausea, head aches and so on, our one son lost just over a stone in weight!!This isn't down to the heat or excessive drinking but due to the appalling hygiene standardsIn short stay away or consider going to a 2 star resort where you will problably receive better service and save a fortune.
