All around amazing (except somethings...)

Overall, great resort, with a few negatives. The positives: The beach is beautiful and clear, one calm as a pool, and the other has tiny waves rolling in (both gorgeous, clean and exclusively for the hotel aka private). Good service, very nice staff (especially the staff in the main buffet, the spa, and the reception). They will go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable (yes we did tip). The room: Big! We had a corner room in the spa section, it was large, clean, had a walk-in closet, and a granite bathroom. The tv in the room was a good way to end the day before going to bed (channels in all languages, even our local montreal news). The grounds are very lush, green and rich in diverse types of trees- you truly feel like you are in paradise! This resort is large so there is a tiny walk from the block to the lobby/beach (choose your block near lobby if you don't like walking). We enjoyed the walking since it wasn't much (2 min from lobby, 5 minutes from beach) and the grounds are so nice that is made the walk enjoyable. Negatives:Wifi is poor, works but not always. 1.5 Pesos / Hour. You have to be in a specific section of the loby (the reception) to catch it, so you can't be on wifi and enjoy your time too... (The reception is dull,...). I would prefer the wifi cover the entire loby, which is where you can enjoy drinks and social life at night. The food: I didn't trust any food in the buffet except the grill stations. I lived off the grill stations, and although it was good, it was very limiting that I could not touch the rest of the buffet (the rest of the buffet did not look appetizing, cold food wasn't being kept cold enough, the warm food looked old and soggy). I enjoyed breakfast the most: freshly made omelettes with fresh croissant, jam and coffee. We skipped lunch everyday because the buffet looked dirty, and there wasn't any good options during that time of day. Suppers were okay, desserts were good and coffee from the loby bar is much better than from the buffet. NO LIGHTS at Night. The Hotel really needs to invest in lighting up the hotel more, (considering you are in the middle of a freaking island and all). I have to admit, if you are scared of lizards or crabs, do not come to this resort. They are EVERYWHERE. I am not saying the hotel should get rid of them, but what I am saying is that they should light up the area better - it was always an adventure walking back to the room at night because we couldn't see our own two feet and we were scared of stepping on a lizard. There is no room service as advertised. They do not answer, EVER. We tried calling because one night it poured so hard, so we were scared to walk out into the rainy darkness of a jungle to get food. We called and called - no answer. Overall suggestion to hotel manager: Have more people working at room service, set up more lights all over the resort, and improve your quality of food (or else no one will come back... ).Final words: The beach and the people who work here are amazing. I enjoyed my trip. But if nothing changes about the negatives I mentioned, I won't be back. Thank you iberostar ensenachos!

Beautiful resort and AMAZING beach!

Was there for a week in May 2017. We go every year for one week all-inclusive in April-May and this time we went to Iberostar. Food was below expectation but we managed to find something that was okay to keep us going. Not too many gluten free options. The restaurants were great and that solved the problem for 3 nights of our stay.We loved the beaches and the resort is very nice. The room was spacious and clean and people were very prompt when requested service.

Second time wasn't as great

Our first trip to this hotel was in April of 2016. I wrote a review on that trip about the wonderful time we had as a family and how amazing the hotel and staff were.We returned at the end of January 2017 and had a different experience. Not necessarily terrible, the beach saves this resort from ever being that. I did not write a review right away as I didn't want to sway by the negatives. The not so good: food. Yes this we knew from our first experience as well but we didn't travel there for the food so we dealt with it and survived. We didn't get sick so at least there was that. Check in was again tedious and depending when you arrive you may not get fed anything at all. We were lucky enough to be offered some stale food left over from the buffet's supper, but the kids wouldn't touch it. Our room this time around was not what we requested and it smelled so badly like lagoon when we arrived I did not want to stay. Not pleasant start. The weather was hit and miss the entire week but the entertainment staff did so little to help with... entertainment we spent more time just playing the few games we luckily brought with us. The lending library is a complete joke, I wouldn't bother, and as we didn't like the lack of enthusiasm from the kids club the first time around we didn't bother with that either. I ordered a cake for my husbands birthday, with specific instructions to be tree nut free. It wasn't. My daughter had an allergic reaction. We ended up donating it to the restaurants guests so maybe they enjoyed it? I was not happy with that. Other things seemed even more run down. Washrooms with flooded toilets, birds not even being bothered to shoo away from the food, bad service in the buffet and at bars. Noone seemed to work at all unless you tipped and this seemed this time to be more than expected. Not deserved though. Also no rules were enforced for dress code. Which meant you could dress up to the nines to go a la carte with your family for a special dinner and the people beside you are wearing tank tops, cut off jean shorts and even once a bathing suit! I have never seen this at a five star resort, not even on a cruise ship do they allow people to eat in a sit down restaurant in their bathing suits. It was just the little things this time around that added up to it not being as grand as the first go around. Also check out was a nightmare. A complete nightmare! You have to wait in line forever and then they ask for the towels right then and there. Even if you have four hours to kill by the pool they want those ratty, wet, and even holey towels back before you can check out. We already had our luggage packed and curb side, did they think we were going to take those towels afterwards?! Unbelievable. So again no check out until later and then AGAIN you had to wait in line for another hour. The front desk could really use some training in service and multi tasking. If waiting for example for a print out to move on to the next task. I get that the computers are slow but they don't have to mimic them. But that beach! That beach!! Ensenachos. If we ever go back it is only because of that clear warm water! In January though they have a bit of a jellyfish issue. Not at all what we saw in April. A few ouchy burns but we lived. I know I said before take the reviews you read with a grain of salt and have only the expectation to have the best of times and surely that's what you will have but unfortunately for us this time around it just wasn't that great.

Ensenachos

Brilliant hotel. Clean, friendly staff, beautiful surroundings. Beaches very quiet and secluded, always beds available. Wifi available at reception, 1.50 pesos for an hour. Air con stopped working in room over night, not an issue as reception happy to upgrade us to available room in the adults only spa section. Buffet restaurant not great, unless you got there when it opened then food was generally cold unless you got it cooked for you at a fresh seafood station. A la cadre restaurants were great. Beautiful hotel and rooms. Quite a few excursions to chose from such as catamaran day trip with snorkelling, Havana trip (day and overnight) with Tropicana, jeep safari etc. La Estrella is 1km away with bars shops cafes and restaurants. Lovely place, would definitely go back.

Great time at a unique hotel!

Had a great time at Iberostar Ensenachos, a truly unique hotel with two spectacular beaches: Playa Megano & Playa Ensenachos. It all starts with the great service with a smile at the reception desk with Claudia. Whatever help you need, she is there for you! (Muchas gracias, por todo, Claudia!)At the beaches, theatre and sports grounds, Junior (who is really a fantastic guy) and his colleagues from the Animación Team will keep you entertained and in shape, all the time.Had lots of fun at the beach volleyball & tennis courts. Junior, thank you for the great time and friendship.;-)The best comments for staff at the buffet restaurant, where Marlye & Danikis provide great & friendly service.Looking forward to come back to Iberostar Ensenachos. not to mosquitos, though!)
