Our family stayed for the first time at Iberostar Ensenachos from November 11 to November 18.I was a bit hesitant to book Cuba, but my sister and coworkers swear by this resort and say this is one of the nicest beaches in Cuba. We booked this resort prior to Irma, and when Irma hit, I was pretty sure our trip would be cancelled. But here I am eating my foot, kudos to the Cuban people for showing us resilience through such adversity. At check in, the resort staff stated there were around 250 people at the resort. But based on how empty everything was, it felt more like around 100 to 150 people. We have been to many resorts all over the Caribbeans. It was really strange to have the buffet, bar and waterpark all to ourselves. More than half of the resort is still closed, all customers stayed in the adults only spa section (even though we had kids). Only the lobby, megano beach bar, megano snack bar were open. Lunch was not served at the buffett, but at the beach bar and megano snack bar. The children's water park opened up by tuesday, but nary a child came, as it seemed not many people knew it had opened again. We spent a morning walking around the ensenachos section both beach and the resort. First Ensenachos is an amazing beach, too bad there were no services near the beach for food or drinks, so we spent most of the time at Megano. The Ensenachos section still has a lot of work, crews were everywhere trying to rehabilitate grounds and buildings. It looked a bit like an episode of zombie land, seeing the damage and no one in the buildings or paths. The food is okay, I found it lacking in variety (would recommend this resort to meat lovers, vegans stay away, you will starve). That being said, I always found something good to eat. It really annoyed me to see the chefs mangle 10 pounds of bacon daily. The bacon was overcooked on the edges, and raw in the middle, resulting in everyone not taking any. This sounds like a temperature issue when putting it in the oven. Think of how many people that bacon could have fed. The chefs tend to overcook, and overspice everything (from steaks, to eggs to shrimps), there seems to be an issue with the chefs training. Lastly, note that the mosquitoes are plentiful (they fumigate with smoke machine at least twice a day). We had a lot of bites. There were also a lot of sand flies and fruit flies in our back patio. To top that all off, there were jelly fish stings everyday.I am a beach lover, and admittedly cayo ensenachos is a beautiful beach. But I am not sure I'd come back. The service was good, the food was opposite. The staff were offcourse very attentive due to such few customers.
Myself, 3 family members and friends stayed between 7th to 10th as part of a tour of West Cuba. Resort was Excellent, despite the fact it had been hit hard by the recent Hurricane. The maintenance team had done a fantastic job to get things ready again for customers, whilst some areas were still closed off for repairs, our rooms, main dining hall, spa, lobby, bars and theater were all like new, everywhere was very clean & tidy, The beach and pool area were amazing. Staff were incredible helpful and friendly, especially the bar and restaurant staff. Evening entertainment good. Visited the spa which was great. Great fun at beach, loads of staff on hand to organize games, water aerobics, plus amazing walks where at times you felt you were on a desert island. Admittedly there were not many guests as local airport only just reopened, but I would certainly visit again if that way and recommend to anyone who is visiting Cuba and wants a relaxing all inclusive. Definitely try another of Iberostar resort in future.
We were so looking forward to spending some time at this resort, but the problems started when we arrived. This was the last leg of our long trip, but we wish we didn't go here. When we arrived at the resort, we went to the front desk, along with other new guests. We were there early (1:30PM) and check-in was at 4PM (we didn't know the check-in time before we got there), but they told us they would have our 2 rooms ready in1 hour. In the meantime we could have lunch at the buffet restaurant. We went back after more than an hour and then they told us that the rooms would be ready in 30 minutes. We waited and of course the rooms weren't ready, so they told us that check-in was from 4PM, so we waited and came back at 4PM. They then told us the rooms would be ready in 15 minutes. Well, by that time we were fed up. Check-in was at 4PM, so we wanted our rooms. We wouldn't have been angry if they hadn't told us to come back after 1 hour and then 30 minutes. By the way, we were the only ones who were still waiting for our rooms, because the other people that checked in at 1:30PM got their rooms. We saw them walking around the hotel and going to the pool or beach.We finally got our rooms at 4:30PM. The guy who was supposed to take us to our rooms couldn't find the right location, so he drove all over the place. It took forever!!After asking several members of staff he finally found it. We had room 3103 and 3104. Room 3103 was a room for handicapped people. The bathroom was adjusted to their needs, but we are NOT handicapped and we never asked for this. Room 3104 was still dirty. The bed was dirty and the drawers had all kind of garbage in it. It was definitely not ready to be given to guests (I hope!!). There was also an extra bed in the room for a third person, but we were with 2 in each room.We went back to reception and the girl behind the desk recognized us and looked bored again. Of course, we complained and demanded other rooms. She told us there was nothing else available. Well, we weren't taking those rooms. She called housekeeping (so she said), but I guess they didn't do anything. After more complaints from our side, we finally got 2 other rooms, room 3110 and 3123 (not even near each other).We found out afterwards that they were renovating rooms, so it wasn't full at all.They should make sure that they have rooms ready for all the guests that booked and paid a lot of money for their rooms.Room 3123 was better than the previous room, but the lock of the window in room 3110 was broken and it wasn't really clean. By that time it was 6PM and we were so fed up, that we just went to the beach. After spending 30 minutes on the beach, it was totally deserted so we left. We went back to the front desk. I had taken a picture of the lock of the window, so they would understand what was going on. Our room (and our window) was the 1st room in the building and it was quite clear from the outside that the window wasn't closed. Anyone could come in. The lady at reception called housekeeping and she told us that someone would come over that night to fix it. Well, guess what....no one showed up. We went back the next morning and again they told us someone would come over to fix it. Well, we spent 5 days there and no one came to fix it. It was terrible to sleep in a room where the window was open, visible to anyone. It didn't feel safe. One of the times we were at the front desk to complain, there was another family who complained. The lady had so many complaints and the girl at the front desk just looked at her. She didn't do anything. They just don't take you and your complaints serious.I guess they see us as rich tourists, but they don't seem to understand that it's a lot of money that they charge us for this dump. We all have to work hard to be able to afford this. They don't care at all.Our rooms were still dirty. White spots on pillows, torn sheets, no coffee or tea available, no fresh towels. Housekeeping was terrible. The bathroom was dirty when we got there and we could tell that they never cleaned it. We had a "terrace" at our room 3110, but there was only bush and that was also the view from our other room, room 3123.They're supposed to have all kinds of special restaurants, but all of them were closed when we were there. So, we only had the buffet restaurant. Food was good and they had different food every day. It was hard to find a clean cup for coffee or tea, because the tray was always empty. We only gave this resort 2 stars, because of the staff at the restaurant. Most of them were extremely friendly. Every night they had a different show, but the sound was terrible and they really couldn't sing. Since there's nothing else to do around there, this is the only thing you can do at night. The pools are closed and so are the beaches.The pool was maybe the worst place of all. People just went to the bar with a thermos and they had it filled with alcohol. We saw bottles of rum going into lots of those thermos. Of course, the bartender got a big tip, so they didn't complain. That's how they make money. I find it disgusting that every single person in that pool walks around with a thermos filled with rum, vodka and so on. WHY??????This should NOT be allowed, but I guess that's how the staff makes money.The other bad thing is that there is no wifi. You have to buy a card, but most of the time you can't connect, so you lose the card and your money. Other Iberostar Hotels offer free wifi (according to the website).The best part of the resort is the Ensenachos beach. It's AWESOME! All in all, we are NEVER going back. It was a total disaster and this resort is definitely not a 5-star resort. There were 2 things that brightened up our day...the beach and our waiter at the buffet restaurant. His name is Yudi and he is the best!!! Don't go here. It's the only resort on this cayo, but there are other cayos.
Amazing resort nothing to complain about. Enjoy Cuba ,beautiful People beautiful beach, good food yummy Spanish feel to this resort, the spa is really really good! try the cheese and the chickpeas with chourizo yummmmm
The hotel does not offer free Internet services which should be include in a five start Hotel.Also the Aquatic activities for instance the Catamaran the member of the staff want to charge 10 CUC per person instead of accepting a tips which was really disappointed.
