Location:On the unspoiled Cayo Ensenachos in an area of natural beauty, 80 minutes from Santa Clara International Airport.
This is second year vacation at Iberostar Ensenachos Resort. We plan to come back next year. It is only 3 hours flight from Toronto. No hassle in immigration or question upon arrival. It was very friendly to visitors. My grandchildren can play and swin at the beautiful beach or the pool or hot tub. The people are friendly. Last year I bought wi-fi roaming package from TELUS. This year no more wi-if roaming available. We gave to buy Wi-Fi cards costs 1.5 peso for one hour. Connection is marginal acceptable. It connects and drop frequently. You have to remember to log out otherwise the meter is running and no more time left in the card. The food is good. Lots of sea food.
The location is secluded and private. The beach is lovely and not overcrowded. There are no locals trying to sell you stuff. The resort grounds are beautiful. The room and balcony were large. The were a lot of kid activities (my daughter is 6). She made a lot of friends. The kids club staff are friendly and energetic. The rest of the staff is friendly and very accommodating. The food was good. There was a seafood grilling station, a carving station, a meat grilling station, a pizza and pasta station where you could order a la carte if you didn't want what was in the buffet. There was enough variety to keep it interesting, but enough of the staples for the kids who were not interested in trying new foods. This was our first time in Cuba. I was told by a lot of people about the "tasteless food and lack of variety" but I didn't really experience this at the resort. I quite enjoyed the grilled seafood (including lobster tails several times) at the buffet, at the beach shack and on the beach BBQ. Overall, I went to Cuba expecting some hiccups and some disappointments.... but was very pleasantly surprised at the beautiful buildings, beach and pool areas, as well as the service and smiling staff. And yes, even the food. Although it's about a 2 hour drive from the Santa Clara airport to Cato Santa Maria, it's worth the stay at Iberostar Ensenachos. You get the whole island it is situated on. There are no other resorts on the island where Iberostar is located. It feels like a decadently luxurious location, just for that. We enjoyed it very much, and would rebook in a heartbeat. (A note on the beds: I found them very firm, and not to my preference, but that's a very small and subjective observation. It wouldn't stop me from going back.)
Vacationed with family at Iberostar Ensenachos between March 3-12. Overall very good. Playa Ensenachos was spectacular, (Titi is great), lots of walking but not an issue, food is good, staff is great always willing help out, overall a good experience.
We stayed at the Iberostar at the end of February beginning of March. The gardens of the hotel are magnificent. The buffet was surprisingly good for Cuba and the servers went out of their way to make us feel at home. One thing I've noticed is if u give respect u get it. They don't expect tips, but are very grateful to receive a little extra. Our 2 young boys had a great time and Ensenachos beach is stunning. The rooms were the only complaint specifically the hard mattresses. That aside we had a pretty great week there. Our favorite server Haviar rocked! He was really great!
We spent the week of March 8th to March 15th at the Grand Village area for Our first visit to this resort. The reason for the trip was to surprise my Wife with our vow renewal for our 35th wedding anniversary. Rachel the wedding planner did an outstanding job with setting up the day. She had the Gazebo decorated, wine cooled off, performed the Ceremony and arranged the meal in our room with an added surprise for me in arranging for Trio Puesta del Sol to play in the room before our meal. She did an amazing job for us. Maikel (Butler) smuggled the trio over to the room without our knowledge. Yan and Dulaivys did a great job getting the room ready for the meal. Yan then served a great meal in four courses. The day couldn’t have went any better. Thank you to all the staff involved with it.The rest of the week was perfect with great weather and great food. As I said we stayed in the Grand Village area of the resort. We stayed in Bungalow 6601. A great view of the sunset along with everything in the room working as expected. I have to take time to point out the people in this area as they deserve a lot of credit for making your vacation a memorable experience. Yandry, Maikel, Marichal the three Butlers did a great job in keeping us happy in every request. We saw Yandry on all but two days and he went above and beyond to make it a great week. He even showed me a great spot to fish from shore behind our room. Zulma on reception was always there with a big smile and took care of us if the Butlers were off helping other people. She knew about the surprise for my wife and helped me get some details ironed out. We had a variety of staff keep the Bungalow tidy and met Yansi, Yeny, Midiala and Ernesto on different occasions on the grounds. They always had a smile and a greeting. I can’t say enough about the restaurant staff at the Grand Village. Yan the maître d' was always there along with the group of friendly servers. In the morning Alicia, Yani and Yuneisy took care of us and knew in no time that I was putting everything on my Omelet. In the evening Yaquenia and Dulaivys joined Yan to serve up some of the best food I have ever tasted. Speaking of great food the chefs in this area serve up food with layers of flavour. Seriously if Jamie, Richard, Leo and Orelvis were offering up this food in Canada they would be very successful. Yunior, Anier and Agustin the Bartenders served up some great drinks when ever called upon. Last but defiantly not least are the ground keepers in this area. They do an amazing job keeping the grounds in great shape. I truly regret not getting their names as they deserve to be mentioned. On one occasion in +32 temps the trees were being trimmed by our patio to make our sunset view perfect. I offered the gentleman a gratuity in appreciation of his effort to keep things looking great. Later in the week he presented my wife with a flower and came over to the van to say goodbye the day we left. I can’t believe how hard the staff in this area works to make sure your holiday goes great. Now for the rest of the resort. Both Beaches are long and covered in white sand and lapped by the clearest water I have seen on vacation. I am not sure on other People’s opinions on the water but I thought it was plenty warm as we could walk right in without any shock to body parts. It was busy on the beach and there were plenty of places to park yourself out of the sun. We ate at all three Beach locations and found the food to be very acceptable. Of course the grand Village menu was a lot fancier but those amazing Chicken Nuggets were everywhere. We never spent time at any pools other than walking through the areas. They looked very clean and there were lots of chairs around to sit on. With the great weather and calm water we spent all our time at the Beach. We ate at the Buffet on one occasion and found plenty to eat and the quality was good. We did walk through the Buffet in the different meal times to check variety and saw crab legs and lobster on occasion. We only had one meal at the Seafood place and sat in Yan’s wife Yule’s section. She greeted us with a big smile and it was a pleasure to meet her. The food there was great as well. Just a thought, I always here that steaks are tough in Cuba. My wife had Steak on five occasions and I had steak twice and all of them were tender. Even the well done steaks she had.I am sorry for the long rant but We had one of the best Vacations we have ever had.
