Our Opinion

Iberostar Ensenachos is a resort suited for those who like larger properties and big resorts. The Iberostar provides top-notch luxury service and is the only 5 star in Cayo Santa Maria that accepts children. The resort is situated along one of Cuba's most beautiful beaches. The service from staff is extremely attentive and pleasant. For those wanting top-notch luxury and the most out of their all-inclusive experience, the Iberostar Ensenachos is the perfect destination.

This stunning resort, set on a spectacular white powdery sand beach that stretches over 2.6 kilometres, offers all the luxury one expects from a hotel of this class. Experience some of the finest facilities anywhere in dazzling surroundings!

We stayed at the hotel 9th to 23rd May 2017 and from the TripAdvisor reviews and how the holiday was sold to us by Thomsons we had high expectations.This wasn't our first visit to Cuba having been to Havana and Varadero on a previous trip so I believe we had reasonable expectations of what to expect.The main problem was the food, it was pretty awful and whilst we luckily didn't get sick I spoke to quite a few people who did during our stay. The hotel was very busy during our stay and it was clear that it was not sufficiently staffed to cope with the number of visitors which generally led to chaotic and poor service.Main Buffet - The food here was very similar every single day, there was little variation. When you go in the buffet there is no staff assigned to greet you and help you find a table, we found ourselves everyday struggling to find a clean table to eat from or a member of staff to clear it for you. Once you found a table you'd wait an age for someone to clean and set it and then another age for a drink. You also were surrounded by dirty tables which made for unpleasant experience. There was clearly not enough staff to cope with how busy it was. The food itself was often not very hot or kept very cold (for things like cheese) and during busy times food was not replenished so there would be limited choice. We found it stressful to eat in here almost every time. There were a lot of flies and birds which had found there way inside.Al a cartes - The only one we liked was the Mediterranean which had great sunset views and the best food on offer in the resort. The Cuban was horrible the Chefs special appetiser consisted on chips, fried potato crisps, a slice of cheese, a slice of ham, some shredded veg and what I think was a yoghurt dip it was bizarre and not special. Equally in the Italian the chefs special starter was fried potato crisps with Parmesan cheese and two of the smallest croquettes I have ever seen. The Asian restaurant starter including sushi rolls which contained cheese! In all the common theme was everything was overcooked and again the service was poor for the most part. You get 3 reservations per week of your stay in the Al a cartes.Megano Beach - beautiful beach but the buffet restaurant was horrendous we only went once. Food not replenished, flies and birds all over the food and surly service at best. The toilet facilities at both beaches are pretty grim. You could get a palapa and sun beds pretty easily as long as you weren't bothered about a bit of a walk down the beach.Ensenachos Beach - another amazing beach which is quite a walk from the resort but you can get one of the shuttles across. No real food options here there is a guy who has a grill and cooks burgers and hot dogs that's about it.Spa Section Pool - there are two pools next to each other in this section and the area is nice. There are no umbrellas only natural shade from palm trees which means you find yourself moving about the pool a bit during the day. They didn't really offer drinks brought to you regularly unlike other resorts I've been to you just went to the pool bar yourself.Spa Section Room - spacious room a bit rough around the edges as expected. Cleaning service was good.Entertainment - they offered nightly shows which weren't really our thing but the live music in the lobby bar was really good it just didn't go on late enough. It stopped at 9pm ish when the show started and after the show there wasn't anything on offer. The usual pool/beach side entertainment such as volleyball etc was also on offer.Bar areas - main bar area is in and around the lobby the service here was the best we experienced in the hotel .Reception - unhelpful and unfriendly, check in was unnecessarily painful and chaotic.We made a complaint to the rep while we were there about the food and service as did other guests. The rep basically said that the problem was the current management and that they considered it low season so staffed accordingly (the hotel felt full so it definitely wasn't low). Compared to our last trip to Cuba it was well below expectations and we thought being an Iberostar that standards should be higher. I would never return to this hotel it is supposed to be a luxury resort and one of the best on the islands but fell far short of this. This is sold by Thomson as one of their Al a Carte range which is a total joke.

The sun set and the music never appeared!!!

I have travelled to Cuba many many times, but it was the first time for my friends and I at this hotel. Our travel agent told us that the beach Ensenachos is the second best in Cuba, and I must admit he was right. The beach was absolutely breathtaking, the pictures don't do it justice, because even the texture of the sand is amazing!. Our hotel room was great! Our room was by the spa, section 20-21, and it had hot water, working air-conditioning, clean towels, daily maid service, and clean towels. Originally we booked for 2 people, but then became 3. The staff brought the third bed tot he room, but it was not satisfactory, because it was old and dirty. We complained about the bed, so the front manager immediately came and replaced the bed with a new mattress and bottom. Our mini fridge was always replenished, and the hotel also gave us a complimentary bottle of Rum. The staff was always friendly and eager to please. The dining staff was always asking us if we needed anything, and a few of the morning staff were exceptionally good to us. Gretel was one of the dining staff who always had our favourite marmalades waiting for us, and also would have a fresh mango or two, cut up and prepared for us to eat and take to the beach. She was absolutely amazing at making us feel special!The only negatives towards the hotel would be the flies in the dining room and on the food, the birds flying in the dining area, the dirty couches in the lobby area...wouldn't suggest sitting on them, and the lack of things to do after the evening show. It would be great if they had functioning disco, or any type of music in the lobby where everyone gathers in the evening. There is a some kind of sports bar on the bottom floor, but no one goes there, probably because of the lack of ventilation and the horrible smell because of it.If the hotel could fix these minor little set backs, then the hotel would definitely be a 5 star. As is now, I give the hotel a 4, but I will definitely be back someday for the beach and for the amazing service from the staff.

The New Standard in Health Care

should include a week at this resort in beautiful Cayo Ensenachos, Cuba.From the moment we arrived to the morning we left we were treated with the utmost in care, attention and respect; our every need anticipated by a staff which, along with being the friendliest and happiest bunch around, takes great delight and pride in providing the best possible service to every single guest. With such a stellar crew and the beautiful surroundings, the incredibly gorgeous beaches and the stunningly landscaped grounds, it is the perfect environment for much needed respite, relaxation and rejuvenation.We are not repeat-resorters however make an exception for this one, this being our 3rd trip to the Village. For others we met, their 6th, 12th, 15th; it's no secret why we all return. For the money it's incredible value; not as glitzy as some others in the same class, it's very elegant without being stuffy, and while showing its age in some places, the beautifully maintained buildings, grounds, and the staff, make up for any inadequacies. If you're looking for peace and quiet the Village provides it and more.Yandry, Maikel and Marichal, the butlers, were there to look after our every need (which happened to be a bottle of bubbly every day at 4pm please - it was their idea to add soapy bubbles to the hot tub and flower petals for extra romanticness - is there such a word? Here there is!). Alicia, Yanisley and Yuneisy greeted us at breakfast and lunch, always happy, smiling, working very hard to to look after that need as well. Breakfast with mimosas by the Village pool, hummingbirds flying about - what a beautiful sight to winter weary prairie folks! Lunch at the Ensenachos beach bar - lobster, shrimp, wine/beer, and the beautiful view with such happy smiling staff, sometimes singing, dancing - an infectious atmosphere of happy. Junior at the bar, both by the pool and lobby, making delicious drinks, we sampled some very fine Cuban rums. The smiling Yansi keeping the lobby area and bathrooms sparkling clean. Yan, Dulaivys and Yaquenia provided top notch service at El Colonial - dinner was another event to look forward to - and the food! Steak (in Cuba!!!) 3 nights in a row, because it was so good. And even salad, cucumbers, cabbage and lettuce, not my favourite combination but salad Cuban style. Desserts were a temptation we gave in to, and coffee, the cappuccinos with Baileys the best. My goodness, we were treated like royalty that week. (My apologies if any names were left out/messed up - please know that whomever worked the week of Mar 24-31 - we appreciate and thank you for your service!)With so many good things to tempt and enjoy, we took advantage of the 2 beautiful lengthy beaches and the space in between for daily walks. This time we were able to walk out to and explore the Megano sandbar - very cool! Megano Beach is so very pretty with its color, clarity and calmness, but for us, too many people! so most of our time was spent at the quiet, peaceful Village end of spectacular Ensenachos beach, its beauty casting a mesmerizing spell - a good deal of every day was spent looking at or being in it, the water so clear and clean.It's a good idea to bring a floatie for the pool - we didn't - but were thankful other guests willing to share theirs did so with us. The Village pool area is one of serentity and peacefulness. Even with the place full there is no need to do the 6am stakeout, there's more than enough chairs for everyone at the beach and pool, with great bar service as a bonus. Clean beach towels were left in our bungalow every night, the towel fairies bringing them while we were at dinner. Housekeeping angels left our suite spotless and fresh smelling every day, was such a treat to come back to our room to see what towel art they created too. And for those concerned, there was Kleenex and face clothes. Special mention should be made of the hot tub - a lovely way to end the day is with a glass of cold bubbly in hot bubbles looking out at the starry night sky, what good medicine!!We didn't venture out to the main resort very often, a couple of times to exchange cash, one time to try the Asian restaurant (fun!), and coffee/drinks in the lobby bar. The main lobby area beautiful as always, though the furniture is showing its age, the lushly landscaped grounds a sight to behold. Shuttles are provided between the Village and main areas - enjoying a tasty drink while waiting is a good strategy.Entertainment at El Colonial was superb - dinner and music provided by 3 different trios that week a perfect combination - until some guests complained it too noisy, the music then moved to the lobby area - a disappointment as it was not possible to do both supper and enjoy the beautiful music as the trios were there for such a short time. Please, management, if you're going to keep the musicians in the lobby can they stay longer? The lobby area, so beautiful and comfortable, the place to relax to after an excellent dinner, and with great bar service and music, the ambience created encouraged mingling with other guests. Once the musicians left, a little life left the party, so please, let the music play!So yes, after a week of being so well cared for, we left feeling healthier and happier than before we arrived. We'd prescribe a week at this beautiful resort to anyone needing an escape from the everyday worries and stressors of living, and for those with mores serious health concerns this is the place to recoup and restore. Now if we could just get our government to help subsidize the trip, because really, in the end they'd save money on health care!!

Beautiful weather and nice staff is a winner

First time at Ensenachos but fourth time in Cuba. Cubans are so warm and welcoming and this is the main reason I like returning. The following servers at the Buffet Yuri and Yudanny are worth to be mentioned for their excellent services.The white towels in the rooms, sofas and chairs in the lobby and the birds in the eating areas need improvement. Spending a week (May 15 to 22) was a real pleasure.

Excellent down to Average

My wife and I just returned from 2 weeks at Iberostar Ensenachos. This was our fourth visit here. We keep coming back because of the amazing beaches, beautiful grounds, great fishing (I bring my own TRAK Kayak) and the staff are excellent! This visit was like the others with the exception of both my wife and I getting extremely sick for 2 days. After crawling out of our room on day 3, we started to hear from many others that at least one person within their group had the same symptoms. I worked as a Paramedic for 14 years and can differentiate between a viral infection and a bacterial infection. This was definitely bacterial and with the numbers of other people being infected, I would suggest that it was due to improper management of food being served or dishes being placed. I raised my concern with various managing staff at the resort as well as the onsite Dr. and all quickly and adamantly dismissed / negated my concern as being isolated. It's for this reason I'm writing this review in hopes that this resort takes a more serious position on this important issue. I am young and healthy and can handle the ill effects of bacteria infection..... the elderly and infants on the other hand may not be able to. Iberostar.... you have a VERY special location, don't screw it up with poor food management! We will reluctantly return only if the reviews here are constantly positive and this issue appears to be resolved.
