Melia Buenavista Cayo Santa Maria is an amazing luxury resort within Cuba's resort strip. All suites are spacious, modern, and elegant. The resort is also staffed with extremely attentive and personable staff. Melia Buenavista is also known for their breathtaking snorkeling locations. For those wanting to experience beauty within and outside of resort grounds, the Melia Buena Vista Cayo Santa Maria is the perfect destination.


This luxury resort is located in one of the most stunning areas of Cayo Santa Maria. Guests at Melia Buenavista will love the attentive staff and Royal Service pampering. Located in a secluded ecological environment among white sand beaches and clear Caribbean waters. This 5 star resorts features 104 suites and is an adults only resort.

Location: Directly on a beautiful white-sand beach. Approximately 110 km from the Santa Clara airport.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from July 4th -18th.It was a totally relaxing holiday from start to finish and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Buenavista to anyone looking for a laid-back, stress-free beach/pool-based holiday in a beautiful environment.The main advantages for me were the size and scale of this resort which was ideal with everything close at hand and beautiful gardens.Suites were well-designed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Ours was on the ground floor and led directly onto the quiet pool; not quite a swim-up but almost as good. We opted for 2 doubles as opposed to a king size bed which gave us an enormous sleeping area.There was no alcohol in the mini bar (apart from lager) although I'm sure it could have been provided if we'd asked but with 2 bars within 100m there was no need. There was no ipod dock and the bathrobes were too small, but these were the only negatives.Plenty of loungers, parasols and cabanas at the pools and beaches.Guests were an eclectic mix which is a bonus if you want to avoid large numbers of Brits. Service was excellent in some areas eg Los Navigadores and the bar service at the pool and beach from Osmany and Lester.Food was definitely good for Cuba considering the constraints of their economy and especially considering the fact that everything has to be transported from the mainland. There was plenty of choice in terms of protein and fruit but not much in the way of fresh vegetables. However, you learn to navigate your way around the various options. We ate a lot of lobster and shrimp at Los Navigadores and only had one meal which was inedible at the Los Caribe. I found myself craving tomatoes but realised a Bloody Mary was a reasonable substitute!Entertainment was low-key and if you're after a party atmosphere you'd better look elsewhere. The guests were older as you might imagine, but there were plenty of guests in their 30s also. There is nothing staid or conservative about this hotel compared with resorts like the PRDO which definitely caters for an older, British and Canadian market.The three beaches were a bonus, although each have their limitations in terms of swimming. The sunset beach is admittedly photogenic but the water is very warm and shallow and squelchy underfoot. The largest of the beaches is the best option for swimming but it's quite a trek in the heat from the loungers to the shore-line; first-world problems I know! We normally spend all our time on the beach but actually spent far more time lounging in the quiet pool due to the fact that we seemed to have the place to ourselves for much of the time. We used the spa a few times and this provides an attractive change of scene from the heat at the beach or pool.The only negative for me was the fact that I couldn't get a decent coffee at any of the bars or restaurants. I tried all the various options but it was invariably too weak. In the past you could order a café con leche just about anywhere in Cuba and be served the equivalent of a flat white but this appears to be a lost art at the Buenavista. The small biting flies (jejenes) were also a nuisance but I realise they come with the territory so I would definitely advise bringing bug repellent. We used our butlers infrequently and I'm not sure what their function is in a resort of this size when all the staff are so friendly and easily accessible. Service at the Los Ranchon restaurant which serves breakfast and lunch was also inconsistent. However, these negatives did not detract from our enjoyment of this hotel and I believe the Buenavista offers good value for money compared with similar hotels in the Caribbean. I deliberated between awarding this hotel a 4 or 5 star grade.There are aspects in terms of inconsistency in standards of service and delivery (eg 45 minute wait for room service which is surprising given the limited menu options, relatively small number of guests and size of the hotel) and indifferent service on a couple of occasions from staff who are clearly in the wrong job. However, this nonetheless a great little hotel which delivers quite a unique holiday experience at a reasonable price which is why I decided to vote up.

Fantastic 11 days at Melia Buenavista

Fantastic stay at the best resort we have been to in the Caribbean! Small quiet resort with great service and good food. The staff goes above and beyond to make your vacation great. 3 different beaches, loads of coral offshore for snorkeling from the beach.Fantastic room with a beautiful ocean view. We will definitely return!

Back from our paradise

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week stay at this beautiful paradise. We have been at this resort a few times and each time it only keeps getting better. We can't say enough about the cleanliness of this resort and the Love,kindness and professionalism of all the staff at the resort. The management team and staff are the foundation of this resort. Our butlers Joel and Gerardo were the best. They looked after us very well and they always do every time we visit the resort.Rafael, Miguel, Lisandro, Leidy was a pleasure meeting you all and thank you for all your hospitality. Food was great. The chef has made new changes to the menu which we enjoyed. The grilled octopus and Lamb at Los Navigantes is delicious. My husband and I never had any complaints with regards to the food. We had a special lobster dinner a couple of days before we were leaving and it was absolutely delicious. Lobster was perfectly cooked..Bar tenders Orestes, Osmany,Lester and occasionally Laily are all amazing. They always made sure we had drinks and were always so professional with their services and always made sure we were well looked after and always kept hydrated..Navy is amazing with his aqua gym every day and I joined him as his assistant on his workouts .. lol and it was a blast.They have different themes at 4.00pm by the pool for the guests.. coconut tasting, wine tasting, Cuban food ,mojito lessons and daiquiri lessons which are all so much fun. Navy heads these sessions every day.Josmany, Jordan and Pedro at the pool lunch bar are all amazing. They make delicious pizzas and burgers etc. They always fed us well.. thank you all.Bar tenders Joan, Pablo, Saily, Julio in The lobby bar are all excellent and ever so professional with their services. Always happy and smiling.Our chambermaids (morning and evening)we're both so good. They are so talented with their towel arts and always left us beautiful masterpieces in our room. Thank you!We cannot say enough about this beautiful paradise..quiet, tranquil and relaxing and a perfect getaway for us. Amazing management team and absolutely amazing staff at the resort and beautiful landscaping and great atmosphere.. we can't wait for our next visit.Tip: please do not tip the staff in Canadian coins or other coins as that is useless to them. Beautiful hotel and lovely people

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. The hotel is set in lovely gardens which are cared for daily. Huge rooms with Butler service served well by Erik and Amando. Claudia runs the spa which offers a huge range of relaxing treatments and massages which I could have enjoyed daily. We liked the hotel because it is small and more intimate and with 3 beaches and 2 pools to choose from there is always somewhere to find a quiet spot to sunbathe. Evening entertainment was low key as are the daytime activities but all aimed at relaxation. The best thing about this hotel are the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is always smiling or singing or both. All the staff are worthy of a mention but some we had the privilege of spending time with on their day off, Eliney and Mary are 2 really beautiful people. Great to become friends with Edel and Felipe in animation and the pool bar service from Lester and Orestes was always fun. Sandra our evening chambermaid always left little hand written notes when the bed was turned down and Lisandro the food & beverage manager had his eyes everywhere to make sure everything was as good and efficiently run as possible. Along with Leidy in customer service they are always keen to listen to comments so they can improve things where possible. The food is not full 5 star but that is due to the limitations of what they have available and can be repetitive at times. There could be more variation in meals being served with mashed potato or grilled vegetables but most of what we ate was good and some meals were definitely 5 stars. Our romantic dinner on sunset beach was fabulous but watch for the mosquitos. More choice on the menu would be good. The hotel, rooms and grounds are kept very clean and the reception team always helpful. Love the outdoor showers and the whirlpool baths. Another bar available in the evenings would be good as would be another restaurant for breakfast and lunch as the Ranchon is quite a way from some rooms. Internet was free by obtaining a card from reception but it was actually nice to be able to switch off for a while. We miss all the friends we made at the hotel and can't wait to go back next year.

The view was sensational, the pools were clean and welcoming and the service overall is great. Opt for a room on an upper floor with a view! For us, this was a welcome haven from driving and travel about the country--a break from all things---and overall, it did not disappoint! The two cons for us were that the evening dining was just BAD in terms of food quality and extremely stark, bland surroundings. One of the dishes I ordered was simply inedible. And the second con is the deafening silence--not a festive environment anywhere in the area---even the champagne sunset has a violin playing a funeral dirge. Good for relaxation, pampering and quiet. Opt for lunch from the grill poolside and perhaps dinner at one of the other resorts.
