Honeymoon...beautiful, peaceful and romantic

My husband and I went there for our honeymoon (December 2015) and had an unforgettable experience. Serenity and luxury best describe this resort. Every detail was perfect. Everyone there was amazing and welcoming. We can't wait to go back to celebrate our anniversary next year. Thank you all for such a wonderful start to our marriage. Sara and Mohamed

Expensive but nicely secluded

Having spent our first week in Cuba at a significantly larger resort the Melia Buenavista was a welcome change of pace. We were in a "JR suite" and I think this resort location is adult-only. The resort was significantly underbooked the week that we visited and that was lovely. Our shared "butler" Omar was extremely helpful and attentive to just the right degree. The resort itself seems relatively new, clean, and very well kept. The main "cafeteria" style restaurant had very limited selection so one virtually must order from a menu that does not change. That said, you could have a different breakfast or lunch every day. The ability to use any restaurant at each of the three Melia locations, serviced by a shuttle, is a big plus. In fact you can use any of the common services at each location (pool, bars, etc.), too. There was good live music every night outside the man bar. The pools were clean and clear, and the snack bar beside the main pool serves up a wicked-nice personal pizza. There is a pool bar right beside it... how much better can that get?!The beaches are quite long at each end of the resort and the one in the middle stays relatively calm due to a natural breakwater. There were plenty of lounges under cover of woven palm fronds. The internet was pretty disappointing and obviously not always due to the provider. Seriously folks, this could be improved with a tiny bit of attention to obtaining (inexpensive) high quality routers and attendant software. Money can be changed at the front desk at any time AND without the typical rip-off fee normally found at resorts. In our case that all went back to the staff in tips, so I think it's a win-win situation. If you have some extra cash for your Cuban vacation and you like a laid back, well serviced resort, this could be the place for you. BTW, it's only about and hour and forty minutes by bus from the airport.

Second time...wonderful place

We were at this resort from 28 November to 12 December 2016. This was our second visit and certainly won't be our last. With three beaches and two pools, there was always somewhere to sit. We never had a problem finding shade at the main beach (where we spent most of our days) no matter what time we went there. The weather was very windy and the red flag was up for several days but we enjoyed watching the pelicans and other birds diving for fish. We spent some time at the other beaches as well - the sunset beach is very quiet during the day and the snorkeling beach is a little busier. Both pools are lovely. Service on all the beaches and at the pools was excellent especially the gentleman who is at the main beach every morning...always smiling and helpful.Food: Breakfast at Los Marinos was good but the service could be very slow sometimes. We had lunch there most days although we did try the pool restaurant (burgers and pizza mostly - good). There used to be tables on the veranda at Los Marinos at lunchtime but not this year. We really missed that. For dinner there are two a la carte restaurants but be sure to try the restaurants at Las Dunas and Melia Cayo Santa Maria. As a guest at the Buenavista, you can go to the buffets and most of the a la carte restaurants at the other Melia resorts. We'd recommend the Oriental or the Romantic restaurants at Las Dunas and the Mediterranean or the Japanese restaurant at Melia Cayo Santa MariaWe often stayed at the other resorts for the evening entertainment..lots of wonderful singers and performers and loved coming back to the Buenavista for the quieter entertainment at the Lobby Bar. Service at the lobby bar was good some evenings but very slow other evenings. The rooms are wonderful. We were in room 0211 (I"ve misplaced the names of our butlers but I'm sure the management will know who they are by our room number. They were excellent. They made all our dinner reservations, arranged for room service when we had an early excursion and were the nicest and friendliest people. Our room was always clean thanks to both the day and evening maids...lovely job.We enjoyed the excursion to Trinidad. It was fun, full of info about Trinidad and Cuba. Having been to the area before, this was the only excursion that we did.If you go shopping at the Pueblo La Estrella, there is a double-decker bus but we enjoyed getting a taxi (10 pesos)-I'd recommend asking for one of the old cars...its a lot of fun.It was a great holiday...we starting planning our next visit while we were still there.

Beautiful, peaceful, luxurious!

Beautiful and relaxing and a joy to spend time here. 3 beautiful beaches, amazing snorkelling (the best I have ever seen - SO many fish), a lovely room with outside shower room, inside bathroom and balcony, fabulous service and delicious food (for Cuba!). The pool has 4 poster lounging beds around it and staying here is just a joy and we highly recommend it! My only downside was there was meant to be yoga every morning although the instructor didn't show up when I was there - if this yoga was a daily confirmed feature I would be back in a heartbeat! We also stayed at another hotel in Cayo Santa Maria and it didn't come close to this one.

Just back from our 4th visit to Buenavista!

January we came back from our 4th visit to Melia Buenavista in Cayo Santa Maria. We always enjoy this resort and will continue a yearly visit back - can't wait til January 2018 to go again! The hotel is clean, great food (al la cart 3 meals daily) with a small buffet at breakfast and lunch if you like. They serve excellent food at the grill for lunch - great pizzas, kabobs, hamburgers etc The workers are all friendly and very helpful - special thanks to our friends, Lester, Oresto Osmany at the pool bar! And extra special thanks to our butlers, Edel and Gerado - can't wait to see you all again! This is a quieter, smaller resort which is perfect for us! There is a market, Pueblo Estrella, close by - you can take a taxi, or a bus - great place to go spend half a day for shopping, eating and shows.
