Melia Buenavista Cayo Santa Maria is an amazing luxury resort within Cuba's resort strip. All suites are spacious, modern, and elegant. The resort is also staffed with extremely attentive and personable staff. Melia Buenavista is also known for their breathtaking snorkeling locations. For those wanting to experience beauty within and outside of resort grounds, the Melia Buena Vista Cayo Santa Maria is the perfect destination.
This luxury resort is located in one of the most stunning areas of Cayo Santa Maria. Guests at Melia Buenavista will love the attentive staff and Royal Service pampering. Located in a secluded ecological environment among white sand beaches and clear Caribbean waters. This 5 star resorts features 104 suites and is an adults only resort.
Location: Directly on a beautiful white-sand beach. Approximately 110 km from the Santa Clara airport.
FLIGHTWe landed in Santa Clara on Friday Morning traveling on Air Transat from Toronto. The bus ride was longer that usual (approx. 1h45). They sold beer on the bus (2 for $5 Canadian) while explaining the attractions, only Crystal so stock that Buccanero at the airport exit. A valid tidbit of information was that they are building 5 more resorts, 3 more on Las Brujas and 2 more on the eastbound side of the island past the Valentina for a total capacity of 13000 rooms for the area in the near future. Maybe the Cuban government should look at building an airport closer like outside Caibarién to improve the service internationally.CHECK INNo hassle, Dhaimy was the perfect butler and Erik took the relay when she was off. Excellent service from both and highly recommended. Spa services and restaurants bookings were perfect and they always inquire if there is anything else they can do to improve your stay. The epitome of customer service and satisfaction. We even sent other couples to Erik for wish fulfillment for their birthdays.ROOMRm 1811 was Romantic/Level/Ocean view) which was on the lower level. It was a decent size with it's sitting area and patio/seating facing the ocean. The outside shower was amazing for us, private, intimate and sexy, highly suggested for reconnecting as a couple. The mattress was in needs of replacement since it had two grooves at familiar locations where people slept the most.BUTLERS:Erik and Dhaimy were out butlers for our stay and took care of everything, again, highly recommended. Erik even tracked the Sunwing Agent so that I could purchase the VIP passes for the Santa Clara airport and yet I flew Air Transat, that`s service for you. Thank you again Erik.RESTAURANTSThe BBQ besides the pool bar served pizza, skewers and hamburgers which was adequate for lunch and the Los Marinaros also served a more complete lunch in an air conditioned environment. Dinners were at the Los Caribes and Los Navigatos restaurants which had different menus such as International or Degustation which were very good. BEACHES and POOLSThe central pool was where everyone gathered to enjoy the sun, food, drink and partake in the entertainment. There were classes every 4 PM on such topic as how to make Mojito or a wine tasting. The island pool is much quieter but perfect for lovers and drifting lazily on the water, drink in hand and chilling in the water. The center beach is perfect for snorkeling, just bring some bread while the eastern beach is quiet, clean and the water is a perfect blue. The naturist beach at the far end, which encompasses the last four sun shelters/palapas were almost deserted beside another couple for a few days but otherwise, the quietest location to suntan au naturel in Cuba, very few curious passersby.THE WAIT STAFFLester, Osmany and Orestes are the perfect barmen for the job, the three Amigos of bartending, executing drink orders perfectly and for some, going the extra mile by obtaining bananas from their own backyards to make genuine banana daiquiris for my spouse while the waitresses at the restaurants are courteous and attentive to your requests, especially Maria at the Los Marinaros restaurant and Nierlys at the Los NavigatosENTERTAIMENTAn assortment of singers and piano player at the La Notte bar or outside of it. Very downtempo, jazzy or Cuban rhythms. Overall, enjoyable while sipping a digestive or polishing a bottle of wine. The clarinetist on that Friday was very talented but the piano needs a tuning and the bar needs to stock Sheridan’s rather than have it at the pool bar.CHECK OUT Painless, courteous and precise, no overcharge. One change from last year was that the massages went up in prices form 54.10 CUC per person to 62.40 CUC but still well worth the experience. They even provided lunch boxes for the bus ride since we could not have access to breakfast, a nice touch.CONCLUSIONA Cuban 5 stars’ hotel, none the less. Currently performing maintenance during this low-low season but the resort is approaching seven years of existence and needs some much needed upgrading and room maintenance (painting, tile fixing). The boardwalk to the beach has 4 or 5 rusted trough metal boards that require immediate replacement before someone loses a toe. Overall, still a terrific lover’s getaway and escape from the pressure of the modern world. We still plan to go back, hopefully, the necessary upkeep will be performed by then.
Just back from Melia Buenavista and were blown away!Great setting, beautiful beaches, good food and the best service we've ever encountered. As it was our anniversary, we were upgraded to room 2422, ocean front and it was amazing. The outdoor shower was a hit, I must have had 4 showers daily LOL. Maid and turn down service was top notch.Breakfast was fresh fruit and smoked salmon. Lunch was some of the best pizzas ever by the pool and most dinners were lobster. We were spoiled the entire week! What really separates this place is the staff. Simply outstanding. Gerardo and Edel, our butlers. Total professionals. Lester and Orestes at the pool/beach area. Never had an empty cup. Joan (pronounced Jouan) and young Julio at the lobby bar. Finished each evening with delicious Spanish Coffees and a Glenlivet (or 3!). Cant speak highly enough about the service. We were in Cayo Leventado Don Pablo resort in January (currently #3 on Trip Advisor's top 25 Caribbean resorts) and this place blew it away. We will be backPaul and ConnieJune 9-16, 2017
Just came back from a week at the resort first week of June. Resort is well kept and grounds are clean and well maintained. Rooms are a plus as they are a great size (ocean view room). Service is wonderful overall and all staff are very friendly. If you don't like quiet resorts, this may not for you. Never have to rush to reserve loungers on the beach, it sometimes feels like you have a private beach and resort even! You do have the option to travel to the other larger Melia resorts and do activities and eat at their restaurants/buffets via a shuttle that runs regularly throughout the entire day.Special thanks to beach bartender Andrés who was absolutely tremendous, he was very friendly and hardworking throughout the entire week. He's always running up and down the beach in 35 degree weather making sure we always had drinks. Thank you also to Willians who walks with you and preps your beach loungers every morning and takes vacationers snorkelling. Lester at the pool bar was also very attentive and wonderful anytime we spent time at pool. Please pass along our thanks to them.Just a friendly reminder to make sure lock your valuables in the safe before you leave your room as our camera went missing when we forgot one day to lock it in the safe. We also didn't get much follow up about it when we reported it. This is the only thing that prevented a 5 star rating.Brian and Desmond from Toronto
All I can say is it's my little piece of paradise Orestes, Osmani, Lester and Lalyare the most loving hard working people I have ever encountered They make me feel like the only person at the resortAll of the Buenavista people are like my children I will always go back to my special little piece of paradise Thank you all from the bottom of my heartSee you soonDiva
My wife and I spent 4 days at the Melia Buenavista and we had an awesome time. Upon arrival the staff welcomed us with champagne and took us on a quick tour of the resort which didn't take too long because the resort is relatively small. It was extremely peaceful, and you often feel as if your the only person there. The location is excellent and you have access to 3 beaches. The main beach in Cayo Santa Maria and 2 other small beach areas ideal for snorkelling. The staff throughout the resort were amazing they really made you feel as if you were the only person at the resort. The pool bar was excellent and that they were so we courteous, professional and welcoming all at the same time. One of the great benefits of being at the Melia Buenavista is you get full access to the other Melia's via free shuttle bus. If you want to experience a much larger and busier resort the other Melia's are just a short 5 minute shuttle ride away. The food is really as good as it's going to get in Cuba, but the service you receive along with the beautiful beaches and cleanliness of the resort over compensated for anything they may have lacked in food quality.
