Our OpinionPlease note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.
We were sailing to Cuba and ran into heavy weather. This caused us to divert and we were unable to make our reservation here. After contacting Elvoline, it was suggested that we send an email to explain our circumstances and request a refund. This was done but the hotel refused any reimbursement nor did it give any options or partial reimbursement. Nothing. $346 pffft, gone. Will not be staying there on next trip to Cuba. Nor will I ever recommend it.
The hotel is all inclusive, the buffet is very nasty, if you don't go when the door open you don't find any food. The staff is very unhelpful .the bathtub very dirty with hairs, gums. The blanket smells urine
We stayed here during our trip in the Miami-Havana race and the race along the Malecon. Mid March 2017Overall it was a very good experience.Great: The people were very gracious and helpful. View from balcony was very nice. Distance to the boat was great. Room was clean and well maintained.Poolside was great!Good: The buffet was good. Food was fresh, there were areas to get some customized items such as omlets or meat selections. The bartenders at the pool were funThere was nightly entertainment at the pool side (granted this was not very elaborate) which was a nice addition.Easy access to downtown Havana via Taxi. This was usually $20 CUC on the way there and $30 CUC on the way back (less people wanted to travel that far from downtown with their cab) We did not do the free bus so can not comment on this.Cellphones worked on Verizon. Poor: As others had stated at times the room smelled of septic gas. We learned this was from a drain in the bathroom, once covered with a wet towel problem was solved. While this was not ideal it is certainly not a deal breaker. Internet was not reliable, but when it went out here it was also out in Havana. Overall I would definitely stay here again. It is what it is, which is a 3 star all inclusive in a country that has not had a lot of development. If this is your expectation you will be very pleased. If you want to spend a lot more and get more, perhaps you will want to stay in the downtown.
We stayed here in March with our school band trip. The hotel had a beautiful pool and sits in a nice Marina near Havana. I liked the main restaurant which has a wonderful breakfast with made to order omelettes . Lunch had hamburgers and a terrific bbq. Dinner had seafood and vegetarian offerings. At night they had dance troupes and bands performing. They are renovating the hotel currently . I have stayed in 4 star hotels in Havana and this was better and half the price. If you don't like your room, let the front desk know and they will switch your room. You need to have an open mind: use this place as a base and return in the early evening . Then you will be fine.
If you have an open mind it is a great place to stay, food and staff was nice view of canal was nice and it was pretty clean, if you're closed minded and only there for luxury you might hate it but the pool and rooms were nice
