Our OpinionPlease note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.
This hotel is quite a ways from the city and the free bus is a long commute. The bus comes on time, but it drops you off about half way to the city. The connecting bus is sometimes waiting, but sometimes you wait a bit. All in all it takes around an hour to get anywhere you want to be unless you take a cab. A couple of nights we took a cab home, as it was well after 6 before we were done in the city. I would stay closer to the city if I were doing this trip again. The hotel is trying hard to be a better place, but it just isn't there yet. It is run down and yet we found the help very agreeable. They were helpful at every turn and they tried to make us feel at home. It is surprising the number of people that speak English. The food was as good as food gets in Cuba. The eggs for breakfast were good and made fresh. We did not eat any other meals here, as we went into Havana or on a long day trip the other days.
Be fit, because the elevator was down, and they ar short on bellboys. Do not have any problems by night, as front desk is sleeping, and they pull a face when you wake them up. No safe. Not hot water, it gets just warm. Cost for taxi to havana city apprx 25 cuc
no beach-dirty pool-no water-but not bad food-this is cuba-lots of cubans stay here-knowing spanish wil help you-room had poop in it-not sure whats up with this hotel and poop-but it seems to happen alot
Like so many things in Cuba Hotel Club Acuario has its good and bad.Check in was slow and my room was not ready for 3 hours after check in time.Front desk staff for the most part was friendly and helped you with currency exchange and wi-fi cards. If you required any sort of service beyond that or had any issues with anything their way of dealing was by brushing you off. They would tell you to come the following shift and you would be told the same thing. English was minimal by most staff members. My room was fairly large, a bit worn and dated, but still fairly comfortable. It was clean with a nice balcony looking out to the Marina. AC worked fine and there was always hot water with good pressure. Wi-fi worked fine most of the time. No Safe or Cable TV offered. The Nicest part of the Hotel was the pool area and lobby where most of the activities went on. Loud music was played from like 9am till Midnight. Some sort of activity went on daily. Usually a live band in the early evening. The Pool itself was large, well kept and always had plenty of lounging chairs available.Food and drinks varied from Decent to Horrible averaging on mediocre. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner were served buffet style. It was ok tasting and got repetitive after 3 days. Try to Arrive early as certain food items run out and flies start pestering. Chefs and wait staff for the most part were more into mingling among themselves than actually serving guests. Often times if you needed anything you would have to get their attention to be served.Supposedly 24 hour snack service was available but I found that most nights they would quickly run out of whatever they were serving. Food items offered were very limited and usually consisted of some sort of burger and fries. Many times burgers with no buns or vice versa was all being offered. Snack/Bar area were often left unattended and servers seemed to be annoyed when you needed anything.Drinks were mostly watered down cocktails made of low quality alcohol. Beer and Soda usually was very limited.Hotel Club Acuario is located in the beautiful Marina Hemingway. The area is quite peaceful and secure. Services at the Marina are quite limited and consist of a Cigar/Rum Shop, A small Grocery store stocked with some dry good like Pasta,Soft drinks, a Beauty salon. The area is about 25 minute drive from Havana City. The Hotel offered a Free Bus to the City but it was quite unreliable and would mean taking two buses. If you're wanting to be in the city itself don't stay at Club acuario. If you're someone who wants to do lots of sightseeing I would suggest you rent a car or be prepared to use taxis (about 10cuc -15cuc to Havana)The Marina offers no public beach area.Overal I would say that Hotel Club acuario is a decent hotel to stay in but more for those travelers who don't mind relaxing by the pool or need to be in the city all the time. As trips between the Marina and Havana can get old quickly. Price was ok considering it was all inclusive. Its Family Friendly and caters to a whole range of travelers. Keep your expectations low and you should be fine
Simple hotel, in need of TLC. Rooms are tired but it looked like they were in the process of renovating some of their rooms.Pool area very nice, however, spoiled by very loud music throughout the day.Bar service good, although soda is limited and it can depend who is serving whether or not it is actually available. Now, the restaurant. Generally okay if you like pale coloured food. For dinner I had some non-descript meat, not sure what it was - it wasn't nice. Best choice was the pasta cook. You could choose the ingredients as long as it included a huge block of butter! So pasta with butter! Wouldn't like to stay longer than a few days.
