AysukYou are absolutely right about your complaint.Palacio de Pascua is the finest Casa Particular in Cuba.My experiences a Palacio like other guests have been magical. My family and friends and I have stayed there many times. It is the Ritz Carlton of Havana.I was in the same situation you were in.A few days before I arrived, the police chose to "investigate" Palacio, a private casa particular. Not unusual in Cuba. They sent many police (40) and investigators and dogs to the hotel! They instructed all the guests to leave. No reason was given. They closed Palacio down, "temporarily," and sent the guests. including my family, and the employees to the street. They took everyones cellphones. They blocked off the street for hours.I was there with a dozen family and friends without a place to stay. We had to pay ten times at a government hotel what we would have paid at Palacio for a much, much nicer time at Palacio.A neighbor explained to me that Palacio had become to good and too popular and was threatening the revenue for the government hotels. Many Cuban citizens and officials shook their head and complained about how Palacio and their guests were treated by other parts of the government.Very sad. But Cuba is at war with itself now. But is moving in the right direction. We must have patience. And I do believe Raul Castro is trying to move the bureaucracy in the right direction. The reason eventually given for the investigation was that a prominient lawyer from Miami brought his Cuban girlfriend home with him. So they claimed this magnificent hotel was supporting prostitution.Yes, this is a joke, but Palacio suffered. And so did the guests and employees and their families.Everyone one on Calle Habana laughed. And then cried. Fifteen employees were put out of work. And over fifty family members that depended on them. Many guests and future guests, including me, had a negative experience. But Cuba is changing, And hopefully Palacio will open again soon.I love Cubans and believe with patience all this will bee fine.I am sorry for your experience and mine. But I believe what Jose Marti said about patience.I look forward to my times at Palacio de Pascua again in the near future and hope to see you at the magnificent dinners there,
We made our reservations in December of 2015 for our trip in March the following year. Around 10 days before our trip, we got in touch with them to reconfirm our reservation. We didn't get a response from them for several days. We emailed them back, but there was still no response. Then we called all three phone numbers that were listed on their website, one hotel number and two cell phone numbers. No one picked up. The next day, we called one of the cell phone numbers again. The lady who answered the phone said that the hotel was closed until further notice! So three days before our departure, we had no hotel to stay in! If we hadn't gotten in touch with them, we would have arrived in Havana at night after a +10 hour flight only to find a closed hotel and nowhere else to go. This is unacceptable! We understand that things can be unexpected in Cuba but this does not excuse the staff from not informing us of the situation. They didn't inform us or even apologized when we found out that the hotel was closed.
This is truly a wonderful place in the heart of old Havana. First I need to compliment the staff for their supreme efficiency, their warmth and friendliness. Cuban hospitality at its highest. Thank you. Yissel, Orelvis and Emilio were fantastic. Rooms are spacious, the beds were comfortable, there is a lot of storage space and everything is very elegantly done. It had a little balcony (not private, but private enough). For more details just check out their website, what they say there is truly sincere. From the balcony it was just fantastic to watch the world go by. Bathrooms - was pretty decent. The shower and hot water worked but we had a slight problem with the flush. Fresh towels are laid out. Bring your own personal amenities, remember it is much more eco-friendly. The living, dining and drawing rooms are reminiscent of the old casas and it has been beautifully restored and very well maintained. You can simply stare at the art hanging on the walls, lounge lazily in their living room, take a look at their little library cupboard or simply just admire the furniture. The owner must be an art lover for he has created a very Cuban kitsch ambience. The beautiful floor tiles are very much original. They have a terrace, that includes a bar and they can whip you any Cuban cocktail you wish. The view of Havana from their terrace is amazing and we watched a few beautiful sunsets over the Capitol on some evenings. And then there is Miguel, the chef. He is an amazing chef. We had dinner one night and it was the tastiest tamarind and lamb curry I have ever had. The sea food was splendid, the vegetables were perfect. The presentation of the food and the table setting was extraordinary. Quite regal in some ways. Even brekkie is not the usual grab something and let's hit the town attitude. We had the best coffee here, the bread was exceptional, lots of fruits and eggs on order. Pick up and drop off at the airport was on the trot. They even organised a taxi and driver for our road trip across Cuba. The driver was excellent and we used him for three weeks.Highly recommend him. What you will need to sacrifice is a little bit of noise. It can get loud, especially when there is a party on the street. Cubans love to party and it is just best to join them and have a party. The neighbours down are warm and friendly. We had a great night with them. All in all, a haven in old havana.
A delightful boutique hotel/palacio with the a wonderful sense of the authentic. Had the hotel been opened in the 40's.. Hemingway would definitely have written a novel there. It is full of quirky art and period furniture. A real home with genuine shabby Chic appeal. The whole team make your stay a delight and nothing is too much trouble. This is for people who really want to feel the vibe of Old Town Havana and be part of a house party atmosphere. They offer an excellent concierge system for Havana in general and guide you to the genuinely best restaurants. However, the best cuisine in Havana has to be their own House chef who cooks the most delicious and personalised dinners for guests upon request. A private dining experience under the chandeliers with simply the most delicious cuisine. We all had a great roof top hog roast and private salsa night. The hotel has an excellent team of private drivers for airports, day trips and the beach. They will even queue at the bank for you to get CUC !!! For those who dislike impersonal large hotels. This is an absolute jewel. Book early as it is getting "known" in the right kind of circles.
Stayed a couple of nights in this great Casa. The building and the decor are superb, as is the food, the ambience, the service and staff. Lovely roof terrace bar for drinks etc. - we even had a band up there one night. The rooms were ok - but the Aircon very noisy - and the bathroom a bit down at heel - however by what is available in Cuba this were very small items. The food ( breakfasts) were good - and the staff very helpful - taking us around some local sights - helping with VIP access to the local bank etc. ! I would stay again any time.
