Our OpinionA great boutique style hotel that's right in the middle of Havana Vieja. It's charming with lots of ambiance.
While we can't comment on the hotel accommodations, we can say that the rooftop bar with views overlooking Old Havana and the harbor is worth a visit. Unlike some other bars with views, drinks here were a bargain. The mojitos were $3.00 and much better than some other more iconic bars. Hemingway lived in a room on the 5th floor.
Spent 4 nights here in February as part of a wider tour of Cuba.Excellent location in the heart of old Havana. in the pedestrian area, so short walk to hotel, but porters normally meet taxis.Reception was efficient, but lacked warmth. You can change money here, but at about 10% worse rate than a bank or cadeca. Also have internet cards and access in lobby and roof terrace. Our standard room was on the fourth floor. Only window on to internal courtyard, so a bit gloomy. Adequate size, but not over large. Bathroom OK, although shower a bit weak. Water sometimes off at night. Large, comfortable bed. A/C was too loud to leave on at night, but was overall reasonably effective. Our room had a constant background noise, maybe the main A/C unit. Not sure. Was annoying, although you gradually get used to it. (Main reason for 3 rather than 4 stars),The lift is a historical treasure, although in practice it can be an issue. Bellboy operated, it has limited capacity, and as a lot of people visit only to use the 6th floor roof terrace, and some the Hemingway museum, you can have quite a wait sometimes.Roof terrace is excellent. Marvellous views, and a fantastic place to enjoy a cocktail at sunset. Unfortunately, a lot of non guests share this idea, so can be busy. Ate here the first night. Food OK, without being spectacular.Good breakfast, and the bonus of it being on the roof. Lovely spot at dawn.Free acces to Hemmingway museum. Minor interest, but basically just his hotel room.
Place needs better customer service and the room I got didn't have a working Safe, and had spider webs. I had to beg them to come change the sheets since the room felt dusty and smelled like it had been closed off for a while. The beach setting is nice and the events and music are fun.
We arrived here from the Cayo's on the coast at 11.30pm after a long 6 hour transfer from the coast. We were spending two nights here before flying home after three and half weeks travelling round Cuba.We were told that we had the last room as the hotel was full and we were taken to that room that nobody wanted and they rarely let. Room 415. We were taken there by a surly "bell boy" who we seemed to be keeping up. The room was terrible, not very clean, broken plugs, cracked mirror and a roof panel hanging down in the bathroom, and with a very musty smell. At that time of night and a full hotel nothing we could do.In fairness but not surprisingly it was relatively easy to get a room transfer. The new room was bigger, regularly cleaned, and generally better. All the rooms though seem tired and well overdue for a make over which doesn't seem a priority.Breakfasts are taken on the roof terrace which later in the day is where hoards of tourist/ non guests visit for panoramic view over Havana, lunch and visiting the Hemmingway Museum on the 5th floor.Breakfast was the worst we had in Cuba. The stale bread was particularly memorable. The staff seemed more concerned with getting ready for the coming rush than serving guests. The crowds of outside visitors monopolise the only lift which takes about six people this goes on throughout the day. If you wish to return to your room you need to either wait ages in a long queue or make the climb up several flights of stairs, in our case four flights. The reception area is effectively a bar that serves snacks and an Internet hub. This attracts in many outside visitors. The one thing that is superb about this hotel is its location and the piano and clarinet players in the bar
Didnt stay here -just stopped in for a drink and wifi. Apparently supposed to be Hemingway's Hideout? but was absolutely awful. Cocktails were very watered down - the pina colada was like dishwater and overpriced. Likewise the mojitos were no where near the standard we had elsewhere in Havana. Don't bother going in for a drink if you only want to access wifi - save your money and log in out on the street. The toilets were pretty disgusting too.
