worst hotel i have ever been to. 60 yrs old, little or no renovations done, dingy lobby, paint peeling off the walls, furniture broken, noone to help with luggage. hot and cold water came and went, mostly non existant, very bad plumbing, toilets not flushing, my door in my room had to be replaced because the door handle fell off. water leaking from ceiling into bathtub, no stoppers in sink or bathtub, water leaking from sink onto the floor daily. mirrors in sleeping area not cleaned in some time beach area a disaster, able to get into water only once because of high winds, huge waves, riptides visit from beach bum daily with his two dogs running on beach and laying under beach chairs, beach chairs were ready to dissolve anytime, i would not call this a resort, stopover to havana city maybe, spending two weeks in that run down hotel is definitely not recommended food servers didnt speak english, birds and flies all over the main cafeteria.(yep, they were there for every meal, only time you could get coffee or tea for lunch or dinner was to tip waiters. . cleaners and staff did the best they could under the circumstances .
FEB 22 to MARCH 8/17..Been to a 2 Star resort better.....I will start by saying I have been to Cuba many times, like 25 in total,,This is a OK place if you want to visit Havana..Free shuttle service is great to see Havana..Hotel, 60 years old, a few renovations going on.RECEPTION: when we 1st got there they tried to put us in a run down room but after a conversation with our Sunwing rep we got to a room which was clean and not stained or moldy,,, Reception ladies were great after that..ROOM: Clean, basic, Couple times no water, and maid didn't leave us new towels, A leak from the ceiling in tub one night,,Turn cold water on to full force before adding hot as it is 50C and you could get scalded..DINING ROOM: Basic food prepared ,Rabbit,Pork, Fish & Chicken,,,Lots of bread and rolls... Good selection of fruits and veggies although the peas and carrots was on the cold part of the salad bar... Breakfast was omletes, toast, pan cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheese and ham,, lots of juice and yogurt...Bring your own condiments if you like as sometimes you had to ask and before it got to you,.. your food was cold...BARS : We only drank Mulata or Havana Club white rum,, 1st day, no prob, after that we had to go to the front desk and ask to have it even though it was there they didn't want to give us any,, Come on people,, ALL INCLUSIVE!! The lady at the pool bar & the larger bar tender in the lobby bar was very aggressive and didn't want to give us any,,After a few days of this they hid the bottle for us,, When the locals came in they drank everything that was in the bar,,Shelves were almost empty..BEACH: Can't say enough about the guys at the beach who got our chairs,, They are FANTASTIC>Plenty of umbrellas but they need new chairs, Most were broke or cracked so they would get us a new one,,Beach is washed away so there is a banking to crawl down over and back up if the water is good enough to go it, First time in Cuba that I could only get in beach water 3 days out of 14,,Very rough and rip tides and lots of current,,Blew every day..Pool: Cleaned at least 3 times a day as the leaves from the trees blows off and goes in it,,Chairs at the pool were new blue mesh and very comfortable,,ANIMATION TEAM : Luiba and Roberto are absolutely the best,, Hats of to them for making our stay as good as it was,,,,Maintenance : Paulabo,, Anything we need he was right there willing to HelpBEWARE OF THE LOCAL LADIES WITH OLDER MEN,,,, Disgusting AT TIMES !!!
The hotel is very dated and quite neglected looking but our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a fridge, an air conditioner, a TV and a safe in the room. One morning we had no hot water but it came back on during the day while we were in Havana. The beach is very nice and the trip into Havana was about 20 minutes by bus. We left the hotel at 10:00am and returned at 5:00pm. Havana is phenomenal in all there is to see and experience. At the resort, we enjoyed most of the food. Some dishes were a bit strange so we avoided them. The hotel provides bottled water and the ice cubes are made from bottled water so the mixed drinks are safe. There was entertainment at our hotel which we really enjoyed. We like the Cuban "beat". We are going to return to Hotel Atlantico again next year. We liked the combination of an all inclusive resort with access to Havana and the Caribbean. The price was fantastic so it made the trip very affordable.
We are just coming back from our first trip to Cuba....and our last! We looked at reviews before booking with Sunwing at the Atlantico Resort as they were mostly positive (see the excellent, very good and good mix!). We wanted to be close to Havana and also be able to take a trip to the Vinales Valley as it's a 2 hours drive from the hotel. - It's a 60yo hotel and it does show...if you're lucky, maybe you'll get a room in the renovated area but i have a feeling that you have to travel in an upgraded class lite Elite to get those. Our rooms were the worst i have encountered in my 20 yeays of travelling: completly broken matress, paint peeling off the walls, doors that won't shut close securely, most electrical outlet didn't work as were the different light, 70% flush from the toilet, rusted out tub....etc.- It's weird to see employees having different jobs..like pool cleaner, luggage carrier, chef or waiter and they also work at the front desk! Jack of all trades and master of none, the later in bold please.- lets talk food: me and my wife eat everything and i've eaten many horrible meals in my life but the food at Atlantico sets a new low in my life, by a wide margin. NOT ONE meal served at the buffet looked appealing or tasted good....i must say that they all tasted horrible....i have goosebumps thinking about it. My kids had worms in his cereals, i had white about 1 inch of white stuff in my beer, birds were coming in and feeding directly on the buffet plats, we saw employee go to the bathroom, didn't wash their hands and went back serving guests, all the fruits looked sicks and tasted weird (my wife only took the pealeable fruits to avoid getting sick..more on that later), the coffee cames from a machine and was the worst in my life....i could go on and on.- If you think about bringing young kids there, be aware that the stairs (no elevator) are very dangerous as space between the ramps and the stairs is wide enough for a grown person to fall in there.....and the rusty and sharps ends of the handrail means that you can't hold yourself.- Hot water was missing 2 days in a row and we had a complete loss of water on 3 different days- The beach is not great, very rocky and not very deep, meaning that a little wind makes the waves go too far in, so you can't sit on the beach comfortably. That' it for my review.....i could go on with what was supposed to be but wasn't like having 2 water bottle per room every 2 days, having a transport to Havana on a regular basis (the transport get off at 10 and get back at 5pm, nothing more), 1 restaurant was close and we saw no one getting a table on the beach side one...as to get a reservation, the outside bar has to be open, no wifi as advertised but there are 2 paying computer in the lobby. Good if you want to be close to Havana but nothing else.By the way, 3 of us got sick: my little girl fainted while on the bathroom with diarrhea, wy wife had diarrhea and spent one full day in bed upon our return...she did vomit also, and i also had diarrhea even if i drank only bottled water, no ice, didn't eat a fruit or salad, only cooked items, brushed my teeth with rum, etc...When i look at all the good review, i have ask myself if they just lowered their standards or will just accept anything as long as they have a beach, food and drink for a low price!?!?!?! If we say we don't accept horrible accomodation, hygiene practices and food, things will change... the world is a big place, there's a lot to see and experience and i will spend my time and money elsewhere
No Elevators so you need to be able to do stairs. The plumbing is a bit dodgy & the rooms could do with a mattress upgrade. Staff are great, very friendly & obliging. When we arrived the fridge didn't work - it was replaced, late at night, then the curtains came off the pole - that was fixed very quickly. Food was great fresh omelettes every morning & plenty of rice, fish, fruit & veggies. Bar served Canadian Whiskey. A la Carte resto if you want change from buffet. Could do with mesh at the windows to keep the sparrows out. Entertainment every night
