This is a large hotel at the beginning of Malecon. I assume that for the standards of Cuba is fantastic but it needs substantial refurbishment. Not soundproof at all. The breakfast was rich yet not of high standards
We loved the location, the staff, the pool area, the breakfast, the views, the design, the paintings, the lobby. Enjoyed the pool so much. Staff was friendly and helpful, service was fast.We did not like the food in the lunch and dinner restaurants. Small portions, high prices, and not very tasty. It is worth going across the street or in the city.Internet is the most expensive among all the Havana hotels. And it is the slowest ever! And does not work half of the time. And staff do not care.
Dear Readers,For those who have to travel to La Habana for business reasons to hold large meetings and special Business Events here's my suggestion based on my personal past experiences.Due to the rising tourism coming to La Habana it's harder everyday to hold/celebrate business events due to overbooking most everywhere. In Cuba most of all business centers are located in hotels and of course for them hosting guesses is priority. However there're a few that I can suggest which have proved to me their professionalism and accuracy when it comes to business events organization. I've recently organized a company convention here in la Habana for 500 people from France (Ours and our partners' names are omitted for ethical reasons). For the same reasons I've posted my opinions in each venue's wall.We split the booking between 2 hotels: 1 Melia Cohiba (250 people) and 2nd another (250 people).Their professionalism was stunning in a way the they got 250 guests checked in without any delay or extraordinary incident, they ensured and executed the requested services really efficiently (dinners, lunches, special room services, Wifi/internet, luggage, shops, special dedicated info desk and of course Lobby bar services) and all this with a permanent smile in their faces, always at our disposal for anything we might need, something rare to find when your dealing with large groups. We had a lunch for 550 people in one of their halls ''Salón Cetro'' and it was just perfect, cero delay, high quality food and service, nice environment, the team was at our disposal all the time.We rented one of their meetings rooms equipped with anything you might need and with constant attention to the detail and our needs. The feedback from our associates was 5***** in every aspect of their program (I'm proud to say that we full filth the French standards) and we receives hundreds of thanking mails once they returned stating as a general opinion that this convention had been the greatest they had have ever. To be entirely honest a part of this success it is owned by Melia Cohiba Hotel and their staff of Events, Sales, Reception and Bookings, PR and security.A big thanks to them all and my strong suggestion to you to choose Melia Cohiba Hotel for your business events and conventions.Saludos,Junie Delgado
Exactly what you expect from a large impersonal international hotel. The surprise was the $800.00 daily rate for the $250.00 room. If you are an American you will be expected to pay cash for your $800.00 daily rate and they do not accept American credit cards. We had dinner added to our room and restaurant called when we were already in bed that they would be up to collect the cash since we did not have credit card on file. Service was slow and never helpful. So exclusive it is an airline crew hotel. Rooms are large, beds are comfortable but the pillows are very poor quality, no pillow protector. Breakfast on concierge floor had no available seating so we were rudely told to go downstairs which we did only to find out the restaurant downstairs was not open.
We booked four nights on line, paying by credit card. Thought we were all set.Turns out we were expected to pay in cash when we arrived: $500 per night for 4 nights= $2000. This would have used up all our cash. Turns out paying on line only holds your reservation. This was true all over Cuba. No American money accepted, no credit cards accepted, no ATMs worked. We stayed one night then moved to a Casa Particular (like a bed and breakfast) which was a beautiful apartment for $30 per night.
