Great Hotel for Cuba

far more than a 3 star hotel on American standards, but below that of a 5 star. The deficiencies are comparatively minor. It is clean, well-maintained, beautiful, with excellent views of the Atlantic and the Malecon (the sidewalk along the seawall). The staff are great, as are breakfasts. A few of the minor issues: the beds seem rather hard, the air conditioning is rather loud, with thermostats that are sometimes "iffy." The worst offense, from our experience, was that the beautiful tiled floors transmit the sound of chairs being moved. As stated elsewhere, check-in and out for a group is amazingly fast.

Good hotel for Cuban standards

Although marketed as 5 star, it should be remembered this is relative to the Cuban market in general. Nevertheless this was a good hotel with clean, comfortable accommodation and air-conditioned rooms. The views of the Malecon were un-rivalled. The service was second to none, and the Italian restaurant was a very nice bonus given it can be hard to find good quality food in Havana. The only issue was the internet access which was temperamental at times. However issues like this are to be expected for Cuba.

Nice hotel, great pool area, friendly staff

Stayed here for 4 nights and have enjoyed it. The pool is located on the 1st floor out side and is a great sun trap. The pool side food and drinks are nice too. Have found the hotel to be more expensive for eating and drinking that when you're in Old Havana but that's to be expected. Rooms are clean, spacious and aircon works really (too?!) well.

Not a real luxury hotel, but clean and comfortable with a competent staff

This would certainly not be considered a four- or five-star hotel in most of the rest of the world (including in most developing countries), but it is a clean, comfortable place with a helpful and competent staff. The staff was probably the best thing about the hotel. The concierge made an excellent recommendation for dinner (Atelier) and was able to get us a reservation there when our tour guides couldn't. We had no problems with check in or check out or getting a wake-up call. The room itself was fine, although the bed was a bit hard and the blankets and sheets were thin and not a high thread count. But overall these things did not bother me too much and I slept well. We had a nice view of the Malecon and the ocean from our room. The bathrooms - both in the rooms and in the hotel lobby - are up to first world standards and are preferable to the bathrooms in many other places in Havana. We attended the New Years Eve celebration at the Havana Cafe as part of our tour. It was a nice show, although painfully loud (we were seated right under the speakers though). The food there was edible but not great, a recurring theme in Cuba unfortunately. I would have been disappointed if I'd paid the hotel's sticker price of $200 CUC per person, but since it was included with our tour it was a nice experience.Housekeeping could have been a bit better. One day they did not come at all, even though we were out of the room from 9-5 or so, and when they did come they did not refill toiletries. Not a huge problem, but not ideal.Breakfast was a disappointment. There was a large selection, but most things did not taste good. I thought the chocolate donuts were good, but that was about it. The coffee was awful, which was a big disappointment since I love Cuban coffee in the states. On our last day, we received a box breakfast to go, and it was really terrible - just one stale pastry, a plain ham sandwich (literally just bread and ham) and a juice box - no fruit or anything that. The hotel is located right along the Malecon, but it's quite a long walk from Central Havana and Old Havana. If I were coming to Havana for the first time and had control over where I stayed, I would probably want to be closer to those neighborhoods, but if you're looking for a hotel in a less touristy area, the Vedado neighborhood this hotel is in is nice, and this hotel certainly has a good location within this neighborhood. The prices here are a LOT for what you get, but that's the reality everywhere in Cuba.

Great hotel, great staff!

This hotel is like the old Cuban resort hotels, only modern. The food was outstanding! It was so good, we didn't bother with any other restaurant. The buffet was the best among several hotels that we visited during a tour of Cuba. The staff are outstanding and extremely welcoming and friendly. If you're a typical American and speak only English, you'll be very comfortable. Speak Spanish with the staff and you'll discover a bit of the wonderful friendliness of the Cuban people. The pool area is sparkling clean. The pool attendants are on the spot for any need. We could have spent the entire tour here. The entertainment is tremendous. This is the home of the Buena Vista Social Club. The music and show were a delight. The rooms and views are great. This is one of the very few places in Cuba with free wifi for guests.
