First (and last) stay in Havana. My issues with this hotel included: Wi-fi only worked in the lobby not in the room. There were gaps around the windows in the room, the largest of which had been plugged with paper towels. As a result the wind was very loud rushing through the gaps and the room was cold. Water leaked into the shower from the floor above. The breakfast buffet was terrible (The cafe Area 53 over the road is a far better alternative). The girl at reception tried to short me when I changed currency. On the plus side the hotel has a nice view of the Malecon and the pool looked good (although unfortunately the weather was not good enough to use it).
We had a fantastic stay at the Melia Cohiba. From start to finish our three nights were brilliant, staff were friendly and very helpful. We stayed on the 9th floor in a corner room which was very large, with a massive bed, fantastic views of the malecon and across Havana. Bathroom was luxurious with a double sink, fab rainfall shower and jacuzzi bath with views over Havana. So much to explore in the hotel itself; artwork on display, plenty of restaurants/bars/cafes, serving delicious fresh food, lovely pool and gym.Plenty of taxis/50s cars available right outside the hotel which cost approx £10 to get to Parque Central. Great base for exploring. We will return next time we are in Havana, thank you Melia Cohiba.
What a beautiful hotel in Havana! Amazing staff and very clean stuff. We had great time at the restaurant and the bar. Perfect place for couple and family. Thank you guys for making our trip fabulous!
We walked into a great big welcoming lobby with great staff. We were literally saved from Iberostar Riviera which turned out to be a dump. The difference was like night and day after seeing this we went and packed and came back and checked right in. Annia at the front desk was extremely friendly and so helpfully attentive to our needs which she did not only in checking in but everyday. The junior suite was great overlooking the Malecon and the restaurants were really nice. The hotel is very safe with lots of security and they made up the rooms twice per day and very efficient. Breakfast which was included had such a variety of food, fruits and freshly squeezed juices. The hotel provides free buses to Old Havana and the tour desk was great in getting friendly English speaking guides. Ask for Ibrahim taxi/tour guide who is so knowledgeable, great and patient. This hotel saved our vacation right from when we checked in until we left. I highly recommend.
The hotel is large and definitely modern-looking compared to other buildings in Havana. The lobby was very welcoming and because it was December when we visited, it was nicely decorated for Christmas. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had rooms on the 17th floor facing the city with a view of the sea as well. Rooms were large, well furnished, and well equipped with a safe and fridge. The bathroom was big with a toilet and bidet, full tub/shower, and a hair dryer, but it didn't have a lot of power. The outlets in the room didn't work for all our electronics, but we used the ones that did work and didn't have an issue with charging our devices. Though Havana wasn't cold during our stay, the room was cool and the heating in the room didn't work unfortunately. The location of the hotel is not near old Havana, but it's right across from the malecon, a small shopping centre and mini-market, and near a number of paladares. The hotel does offer a complimentary shuttle to/from Havana, though, which came in quite handy - just make sure you have tickets if you want to catch the shuttle back to the hotel. We didn't take the shuttle into town one day but wanted to catch the shuttle back and the driver almost didn't let us on because we didn't have tickets, though it was quite evident we were guests of the hotel. The hotel offered a complimentary breakfast buffet with our package and it was lovely. Lots of seating space, live music playing in the background, and plenty of food options including fresh fruit, yogurts, cheeses and deli meats, hot foods, omelette station, breads and pastries and a wide selection of juices. The coffee wasn't half bad either. The hotel has a number of restaurants onsite and we tried the Italian restaurant one evening and it was really good - probably the best pasta carbonara I've ever had.Though we didn't use during our stay, the pool area was lovely - large with lots of seating space it appeared. There is a government cigar store onsite, which was very convenient, and the front desk in the lobby provides money exchange, which offered very competitive rates to the banks. One thing the hotel offers, which was a nice feature, is free wifi. This certainly came in handy, although one must be prepared for Cuba service. The wifi was spotty and our service was constantly being disconnected, which required us to login all the time, which was annoying. However, at least we did have free access when we were on.For a first time stay in Havana, this hotel met our needs just fine. The hotel may not reflect the same standard of ranking as in North America, but it's a nice hotel and perfectly comfortable.
