On arrival I was asked for a credit card. I gave them a Chase and then a Citibank card only to be told that nowhere takes US credit cards. Luckily I had a non-US card that I could use. I asked if Cuba would be able to take US cards in January 2017 if that is the month that all travel restrictions are lifted. The response was that they hoped so. Make sure you check before you visit. I took plenty of cash as I suspected that credit cards would not be taken everywhere. When changing cash, everywhere charges a 10% fee to change money which is ridiculous. Taxis from the hotel to old town were a lottery and we paid anywhere from $6 to $15. Make sure to negotiate before getting in the cab. The tuk tuks are no cheaper than a cab so best avoided other than the novelty value. The hotel itself was fine but expensive at $350 per night including taxes. Breakfast and the pool were excellent and the rooms were good. However, certain parts of the property were starting to fall into a state of disrepair but hopefully will be maintained in the future. Havana is a fascinating city and well worth a visit. I had a fantastic trip accompanied by the most beautiful woman in the world!!
Stayed here for a long weekend in Havana...second visit BTW. It's a very nice hotel, high rise with views of the Caribbean and/or city. Staff was very attentive. Rooms are nice if a bit dated and one can certainly see the influence of what was until recently largely European guests (two prong, 240 volt outlets).Because of it's location there are limited things to see or places to eat within walking distance. And walking is the best way to enjoy Havana. On the upside there are lots of taxi choices. Ate only breakfast in the hotel.....but it's a huge buffet with stations spread all around the dining room. The lobby bars are a great place for cocktails and people watching. Cigar smoke/odor gets a bit strong in the lobby when it drifts down from the second floor cigar/jazz lounge. But you really can't complain....afterall you are in Cuba. One bit of advice.....unlike anywhere else we've stayed the coffee in the room is considered part of the mini-bar and you will be charged for it....just FYI.
Very clean hotel, great variety of food in breakfast, very nice swimming pool and the staff was very polite and cheerfull! The prices of the food and the drinks were very good. Also the location of the hotel is great!
Taking into account that this is Cuba, the hotel was good. On 1st impressions the corridors of the hotel smelt very fusty because of the humidity but it didn't extend into the rooms which were of a decent size and very comfortable. Choice of food was very plentiful and no one should have any issues with not finding anything to eat. Of course the hotel is very very tired but it is currently being renovated. The pool was lovely looking on first look but of course on closer inspection also looks very tired and weary - this of course reminds you that you are in Cuba.On the Malecon with fabulous views, we were on the 16th floor and were able to take in the long reaching views and had sown spectacular thunderstorms and lightening.Havana is easily reached from this hotel, either by private taxi, including the classic American cars, the open top tourist bus which runs from outside the hotel, the "egg" carts and the tourist train.
We stayed here for 3 nights, the hotel provide a mini bus to Havana centre which was very useful. The hotel is situated facing the sea a fair bit out from the town, this wasn't a problem as we ate at the restaurants in the hotel. The breakfast room was large and airy with a Cuban band playing at breakfast, what a delight. Standard rooms are basic but most importantly clean a good size. Reception staff were helpful when required to assist with the Internet.
