We stayed our last days of the Cuba trip in this hotel and were very pleased with the grea t swimming pole and the very good food. After 3 weeks without normal breakfast, this is a good place to start your day. And finally a place were you have normal internet / wifi!
We stayed here for a 3 night weekend and booked a Grand Suite. At check in we were told we are getting an upgrade to a Master Suite because they didn't have a Grand Suite. The room was very big, but it seemed to be 100 years old. The furniture was in bad condition and it was not clean at all. We complained up front and then they transferred us to another room where they say is the latest remodeled rooms in "The Level." If you are booking a room here I would definitely recommend you book the updated rooms on "The Level" because the none updated rooms are horrible and dirty. The restaurants are extremely overpriced, the food was okay and not worth the money at all. You could spend less and eat better food outside the hotel. The Wi-fi worked good for the most part except when it disconnected and you had to type in your 20 digit password. If you are coming here from the US make sure you bring European money because American money isn't worth anything. Everything is paid in cash inside and outside of the hotel.
Stayed here a few days, and it was fine. Apart from the view from our room, nothing about it was great. Our room was spacious, but it was furnished by IKEA and the AC was lacking. The food was okay but never rose to good -- about the same level as I've had in Western style hotels in Bhutan and Vietnam. You absolutely know that you are in a communist nation at every turn. Connecting to Wifi was onerous and involved little sealed envelopes you would have to sign for then the entering a long code. You had to do this every time too. I just gave up on my email after a while. I am sure I am sounding like a spoiled American, probably because I am. Hotels must be taken in context, and for Cuba this place was good. Just don't expect it to be as good as a standard issue Hilton in the US.
The hotel itself was a 4. The room was spacious. However the A/c was awful and the bed was a rock. Breakfast was mediocre. Service was great. Pool was awesome. You will pay 10-15 CUC for taxis everywhere since the hotel is not near old Havana.
This hotel was highly recommended from a travel agency and given such good reviews but I strongly disagree. If you're looking to spend over $250 a night to sleep on box springs in a room with mold around the broken a/c vent take a shower in a run down bathroom with a broken shower head clogged sink walk in musty hall ways swim in a pool with strangers that has no chlorine deal with not having wifi connection and deal with unpleasant rude staff Id say go right ahead. The only nice thing is the free breakfast buffet & floral arrangements located throughout. The Four Point Sheraton is a much better choice and over $100 less. I won't EVER recommend this Old Outdated Overrated Hotel to any of my friends and coworkers traveling to Cuba.
