We stayed in this hotel with another couple as part of a Duo Package (Havana/Varadero) from Air Transat. We had originally preferred to stay in the old city, but a lack of availability led us to stay here. However, we had no regrets as the old city was a convenient free shuttle ride away and this area was much less hectic and offered some good, less touristy restaurant choices. Each couple stayed in a junior suite on the 9 the floor. The rooms were large, clean, comfortable with large well equipped bathroom. The included breakfast buffet was huge and excellent, except the coffee was terrible. The services (housekeeping, concierge ,currency exchange, front desk, wait staff, and shuttle service) were all very friendly and efficient. The pool was quite chilly but we used it on a warmer afternoon. We enjoyed drinks and a lunch at the pool bar. And the boys enjoyed the cigar lounge (excellent jazz band one evening). We had an enjoyable evening the Havana Café night club located in the Cohiba. The music and dancing was excellent and well worth the 25 CUC admission.
I was blessed with a lovely two room suite. It was on the tenth floor with glowing views of Havana. The room was very modern and clean. I did not eat at the hotel, nor did I purchase a beverage from the bar. Someone in my party said the bar drinks seemed to be watered down. This is a very modern looking, safe hotel. There was minor issues with current from one of the outlets; but that can be expected from Cuba. There were more than enough outlets to take care of what I needed.I would feel most happy returning to this hotel.
The hotel compared to most others was nice. The building needed some major pressure washing. (good business opportunity for someone).... Staff was very friendly and most spoke English very well. Rooms and bathrooms were large. Bit pricey for the area but worth the extra security they hotel had on staff. Only major issues I had was 1- when we checked in they said we could check in early for an additional 32(CUC) which being a Melia rewards member I thought the perks were the same. When I asked about the late checkout the manager did only charge us half because I made a stink about it. 2- you can't use American credit cards a the hotel so therefore I had to carry quite a bit of cash to cover the room and 50.00 deposit for the mini bar. Friends that went booked through bookit.com and was able to use US credit card at time of booking. I only booked direct from Melia to get the reward points which I DID not get, After several attempts of calling and emailing Melia I still don't have the points. Tips while traveling to Cuba... Plan ahead with buying Euro from the states and exchanging for CUC in Cuba. Only exchange enough to get you into the city about (30 CUC) Melia has a bank and will accept Euro for payment. Get off the beating path and explore the real Cuba. Go where the locals go. Ask your cab driver where he takes his wife to dinner. We found a a place called Art Pub that was amazing. There was 11 of us and we drank most of the bar with a tab of 80.00... US would have been over 600.00... Cigars there were about 5.00 each while in any large hotel they were about 20.00. Buy your rum at the airport and carry it on...
Our hotel in Havana was the Melia Cohiba, a fairly new high rise located at the Malecon(a sea wall in front of the ocean) Guest rooms offered spectacular views of the ocean and the city. The breakfast Buffet had to be the largest we had ever seen offering everything you could imagine, it almost encircled the entire room. We also ate one meal in their Italian restaurant, the portions were large. We visited Revolution square and Colon Cemetery to view it sculpted memorials. After lunch we toured the illustrious Hotel de Nacional De Cuba a grand symbol of history and Cuban identity. Before Dinner we took a ride in one of the classic cars from the 1950's. The driver drove us around the city in a 1958 Ford Fairlane, he dropped us off at a palador restaurant and that concluded our stay in Havana. A trip of a lifetime.
the hotel exceed my expectations, it is a nice hotel with all you can need, good air condition in all áreas, very big rooms with mini bar and big bathroom, big lobby, internet not so good but at least they have ¡¡ people at the front desk very nice and the Concierge very helpful and patient, buffette breakfast very nice, so I can recommend this hotel for Havana
