Perfect for a few days

Large room, nice staff, easy check in. Great service here and food is to a good standard. They have a free bus that travels to and from the hotel in to the city with is fab! Wifi is free what was an added bonus. Couldn't fault the hotel.

Interesting learning experience

Rating is in context to other hotels in Cuba. The hotel is clean and the staff is pretty attentive. One of the better hotels in Habana. In comparison to other US hotels I would rate this a 3. But the focus on this trip should be on what you can learn. Remember......Cubans don't say Havana but spell and pronounce it with a B. They are proud people with a strong heritage. We learned a ton about the people and their history. Make sure the museums are not closed for a local holiday. Do some research before you go -- this is not a trip to Disney! Need to secure transportation and Day trips-excursions prior to coming to make sure you have an opportunity to meet locals, explore and learn. Food was definitely 3 stars. Hotel food was ok but challenging for me as a vegetarian. No Uber.......so plan your transportation to local restaurants both going and returning. Most of their guests were not American. So it's a chance to meet other international travelers. Recommend going with a tour company your first time if you are not fluent in Spanish to learn the most from this trip. Balance education with a trip to the beach. Strongly recommend you take a few days to stay at their beautiful beaches. Melissa has a few great beach resorts. You can also plan educational excursions from those locations.

Very good service

Having stayed in a "traditional" hotel in Old Havana before leaving the city for a few days, I was very happy to have chosen the Meliá Cohiba for 2 nights for my return. I was staying in The Level and was made to feel very welcome. The service was very personalised and view from my 21st floor room was fantastic. Despite being a City hotel, there is a large pool and good leisure facilities. Breakfast was plentiful and although I don't normally eat in hotel restaurants, I tried the Italian following a recommendation and the pizzas are amazing. I will certainly stay here again when I return to Havana.

5 start hotel in Cuba.

This is the only 5 starts hotel I have seen in Cuba. We were placed at the Level, which are the best rooms. Clean, elegant, and just what you expect for a 5 start hotel. Food was good. Customer service was above Cuban standards, until I went to the snacks store. The cashier never acknowledged me. She was in a personal phone call (ordering some medications over the phone), and was too busy to be bother with a customer. She never interrupted the phone call and gave me my total with finger signs. Never spoke to me neither in Spanish or English. I had a similar experience with security or customer service rep walking on the hallway. I needed to know if the exchange office (Cadeca) would be open that day. He continued walking while I was asking him the question and shouted to me across the room "No". I asked him again, and he shouted across the room again, that they were at lunch. I asked what time they returned from lunch, and he simply ignored me. I can't understand how the best hotel in Cuba fail so much at training employees on how to provide a basic customer service.

Good hotel; HORRIBLE customer service

Do not even try to deal with this hotel if you are from the USA. The lodging is fine. The customer service is rude and utterly unhelpful. It is actually one of the best hotels in Cuba but they are incapable of dealing with Americans and the unique travel restrictions we suffer from. If from USA, avoid.
