- What's Included
Our OpinionClose to the Plaza, this hotel has lots of character and a nice pool. Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.
We arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious, welcoming lobby with several beautiful arrangements of fresh flowers. Check-in was extremely slow. With one clerk behind the desk, we stood for close to 20 minutes while she helped a party of four before us do something. Maybe check in--I couldn't tell. The room was clean and OK. Not great, just OK. Not the best value for the money, but I think this is typical of the better hotels in Havana. It's a different standard of luxury than in the U.S. The towels were so rough I could have exfoliated my entire body with one, but we loved how the cheerful maids arranged them as swans, elephants, etc. Only one of the elevators was working for a few days during our stay, which made waiting for it a real gamble. It could come immediately or take 10 minutes. We often used the stairs due to this. Every day they had live music in the lobby, which was wonderful. The breakfast that was included with the room was decent, but certainly nothing to rave about. But again, we were in Cuba. So overall, there were pros and cons, making this hotel rating average, and this is taking into consideration that we didn't expect the hotel to meet U.S. luxury standards.
Hotel is only great for location everything else you can forget it.fridge didn't work and told the reception twice to get it fixed nothing happenedchairs in the lobby are not comfy you can actually feel the big Spring about to go through as you sit downBreakfast was ok not a huge amount of choiceAir con noisyThe plumbing system is shocking the bath seemed to get blocked all the time as I showered.I get it the hotel is soo old I'm surprised it's still standing.I think if I stayed longer than 3 days I'd be going crazy.Havana itself is lovely and was a real eye opener for me and my boyfriend.
Location is one of the most convenient but the staff at this hotel really made the difference for my stay. The staff all greeted us with the warmest welcome. Every single of one of them. Our guest relations representative, Yamilyn, was very knowledgeable and attentive. We really appreciated her arrangements and suggestions in visiting the cigar factory as well as ensuring we were well-informed about comparing prices and ensuring that we are purchasing cigars from official stores. One more staff I'd like to mention is Hector, our waiting at the VIP breakfast upstairs on the top floor. Hector's welcome was extra warm and polite to us. We really felt at home. Thank you for a well-trained group of staff from Mercure Sevilla.
The hotel is pretty affordable and seems to be one of the better ones in Havana. It’s only a couple of blocks from the capitol building. The building is beautiful is beautiful and is still being restored. The furniture is a little dated but the atmosphere and staff are fun and helpful. It is close to several of the museums and is easy walking distance to many of the squares and port.
Hotel Sevilla was the perfect choice for our long weekend in Havana. In the reservation process I asked for a room with a 'buena vista' and was rewarded with Al Capone's room on the sixth floor. What a place! The hotel was centrally located and walking distance to everything. Would recommend this property to anyone. Just remember, it's not a glamorous destination. It's beautiful, raw, old Havana. Like no other place on earth.
