Our OpinionClose to the Plaza, this hotel has lots of character and a nice pool. Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.
Although the hotel is very old, the service is excellent. The staff from the maintenance and cleaning to the General Manager were very attentive. The music in the lobby was great and the location is terrific.
I have booked this hotel for my forth coming birthday and as yet have not experienced an overnight visit . As a long time visitor to Cuba I have had the pleasure of spending time in their bar and the musicThe reason for my review is the comments about being ripped off by the currency exchange. While I don t condone the actions of the employee I fully understand the financial pressures on the Cuban people by the American policies .Loosing 10-15 cuc is nothing compared to what tourists face in Mexico and some of South America Tourism is the life blood of Cuba and they take it very seriously .We must always be careful when traveling but also understand what the people live with
We expected this hotel to be a treat after a week of staying at Casas Particulares while touring the country. It was an expensive disappointment. A 4PM check in, what's with that? The room was small and in dire need of a fresh coat of paint. Mattress was thin. Public areas, particularly the pool change rooms were not maintained. Pizza at the pool bar was slimy. We had an early departure so could not take advantage of included breakfast. However we were told that a continental breakfast would be available from the lobby bar. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to inform the bar that this service was available.
OK it's Havana and everything is much more expensive than it was when I visited three years ago but even though I would expect better for the money. We booked two nights so we had a nice place to stay when we first arrived. That was kinda OK at about $110 a night. When we asked how much to extend our stay the quote was $405 which is just crazy for a hotel that is 2 stars in most countries. The pool is nice. The reception area is cool and the vibe nice with all the music etc. The rooms are pretty basic though. We found a casa where the rooms are much better for only $40 a night. I wouldn't recommend this hotel despite its location etc.
The hotel itself is a little shabby and in need of decoration. Room was large and clean. Location great to walk around the city and find cafes to eat and drink. The hotel does not replace water in the rooms each day and the wake up call I requested to go the airport didn’t arrive. Apart from that the staff were friendly, the exchange rate at the desk was good and you can’t fault the location. Also, the hotel sorted a driver for the day within 30 minutes of my request. It was very reasonably priced, the driver was friendly and English speaking. It’s only the dates rooms that make this a three star.
