Whilst we were travelling the island with Thomas cook - classical cuba tour, we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. What an excellent hotel. Its on the outskirts of Havana but that doesn't bother me. A supermarket is easily reachable in around 5 minutes (walking). Having been used to rubbish food all week, when I arrived in the restaurant I was blown away. There is so much choice of food & they catered well for a friend who was a vegetarian. The rooms are very modern, up to date and very clean. Cleaners come in every morning & provide new towels as well as stock up any toiletries that you have used. The pool area is excellent - very clean. Poolside bar/snack bar is very reasonably priced. Internet is very hard to come by in Cuba & is no way free. - This hotel charges 4.5 Peso's for 1 hour. The only downfall of this hotel, and the thing that ruined the last night at this hotel was a member of the inside bar. - There was a large group of us all sitting around having drinks, all paying separately. At the end when we asked for each bill, a tall thin Cuban waitress/bar lady said one of us had a mojito outstanding. We all recited our bills again & I was the only one to have a mojito - I had ONE. The waitress tried to first accuse me of having TWO, even though she was the one that took my order and brought by drinks over (ONE mojito for me & a rum for my partner). When I was repeatedly accused of having an extra mojito and not paying for it, I become to get very annoyed. I think the waitress could sense this & then decided to point from the bar to my friend & start shouting, YOU YOU, YOU HAD THE MOJITO!! Now I know for a certain fact, my friend only had one rum & coke. When we all refused to pay for this extra mojito, the waitress began dishing out dirty looks to all of us & shouting 'I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS, THIS WILL COME OUT OF MY WAGES'. To defuse the situation, we all went back to our rooms for an early night. This incident ruined my last night in this beautiful hotel.
I wasn't sure what to expect given some of the reviews I had read, but the hotel was actually pretty good. Yes the rooms were quite shabby in places, but for me that was to be expected. The queue for the currency exchange was slow but not as bad as some people had said, and we thought the food was very good - especially the breakfast selection. My biggest disappointment was the distance from Havana city centre - not the hotels fault of course, but if we went again we would stay somewhere more central as its about a 20 minute cab ride into town.
Very nice hotel, quiet and clean... I loved the buffet and the decorations. The staff was regular, specially a couple of unexperienced waitresses, but that's all. Very expensive, ideal for bussiness travel.
In spite of the lovely lobby and grounds, the hallways upstairs and the rooms in this hotel are DISGUSTING--dilapidated, dirty, leaking ceiling....I could go on but I won't. Havana is a fantastic destination in so many ways. Don't spoil it with this hotel.
Would not recommend this hotel . Dirty rooms with cockroaches to keep you company... Thomson rep very good...some staff good not all.too far from centre have to have taxi all the time.three nights was more than enough in this hotel.
