We booked one night at Memories at the tail end of our stay in Cuba. The lobby and grounds were very nice ~ check in was a breeze, the elevator up good.... then the elevator doors opened to a dark hall way with burned out bulbs, wires hanging and broken furniture. GASP. Yes the carpet old and worn etc... I was prepared for an older hotel in Cuba but maintained in any way above the lobby in the main building it is not. Our room was once nice and still wanted to be charming.... but the mold along the chalking in the bathroom and that dank smell of hidden mold is not ok. There was finger prints all over the doors and smears not of recent origin on the walls. The floors unclean. The bed was covered by a thin sheet on a box spring that was pretending to be a mattress & Very uncomfortable. Now Im a girl who has traveled and spent time in various types of hotels, casas, airbnb, etc in six different countries so Im not unused to "different." This hotel was not clean nor sanitary... at least in the main building above the lobby. I did speak to someone working there and was told many of the staff do not feel invested and make the most minimal of wages for Cuba standards - about $12 equivalent a month. Often guests do not tip... please tip your service staff ! The pool was ok - although all along the water line was dirt scum - the loungers were many and worn but serviceable. I saw many airline flight personnel ~ maybe I would suggest whatever building they stay in ?! The morning buffet style breakfast was large and included many different foods, juices and entrees. But as a public health nurse I was leery due to the sanitary condition of the room. The picture of the room in the ad - nothing like the one I received. The location of the hotel is good as well as the neighborhood. Many tour bus people. We walked to the Melia and had a great dinner in the Italian restaurant. For around $250 dollars I had hoped for a little bit more. I caught a cab to the airport for $25. If hotel management reads this ~ if this room would have been throughly cleaned, including the windows, walls , floors and mold abated, and a mattress cover provided I would have been a happy guest. Future travelers ~ I suggest you consider your options.
Booked a three night stay, and what a shock we had, arrived at 21.00hrs room wasn't ready they allowed a late check out on this room. When we finally got into another room boy what a shock we had, dirty sheet damp smell lights not working shower broken safe broke decor disgusting, staff only wanted to see how much money they could get out of you, longest three nights never slept in the bed, was glad to get out of this dump, so was the other 4 parties on our transfer, all can't be wrong this place is like a doss house
3 nights at Memories Miramar in Havana as part of our Holiday in Cuba, room was on "The Executive " floor, 1.No bottled water in room,2 Safe not working,3 Coffee making Machine not working, no coffee pods and cups 4.T. V no signal.5,Towels not changed daily 6.Bath plug stuck, so standing in our own water for 2 days for shower, before it was fixed 7.Did not received early morning wake up call we ordered! Taken ill on early hours of third day, requested Doctors call, no response.Reception very abrupt to the point of rudeness was taken to Hospital in Taxi arranged by my Husband,Severe Stomach infection- Hotel not interested when we tried to re-book room for further night because I could not travel, only responded with " You will have to pay you know".even after Husband assured them we were prepared to pay. In fact our stay there was one I never want to repeat!
This hotel is what it is, it's a good, clean hotel with a great breakfast. I had a suite with jacuzzi bath. Stayed twice whilst in Cuba and found the hotel to be of good standardI'm not sure what people were expecting from Cuban hotels or why they are being quite so picky. It's location is no secret, it's out of town and it costs 15cuc by taxi to get into town. The shop sells well priced good compared to other locations.Breakfast is extensive and the food is fine.Never had the buffet dinner Staff could probably do with some training in customer service, but none were blatantly rude just off hand or didn't have answers, which could be easily rectified. The chap organising the queue for money changing was a little power crazy but never mind!
This was our first taste of Cuba, and as our journey progressed we reaslised that it was a fairly good hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff helpful, my mattress was not great so they changed my room. Large hotel on the outskirts of the city, too far out for exploration of the city itself but as we were joining a tour group it was fine. Large pool, wifi, food and wine ok.
