The worst of both worlds.

The best that can be said is that it is clean and the air-con worked. The breakfast is plentiful and varied but is not great quality. The hotel and rooms are incredibly tired and in poor condition. There is a minibar but it is not free. There is a pool but there are no pool towels or waiter service at the pool. The hotel is a 20 minute drive from Havana itself and the advertised shutttle bus service was not running. This hotel does not work as a "pool resort" and is too far out of the city to be any good as a base for city breaks. Finally, how on earth can you have a hotel in Havana which does not serve Mojitos?

Review of Memories Miramar Havana Hotel

WORST HOTEL EVER, MY ROOM HAD BED BUGS! I’ve traveled the world and this by far is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Egypt had better hotels!I was on the Gate 1 Travel tour of Havana, Cuba, June 2016 for 5 days and 4 nights. When we first arrived all looked good and modern in the lobby but honey when you get off the elevator you have unknowingly time traveled back to the late 60’s early 70’s! The hallway smelled old and like it had water damage. I was okay with it at first as I walked down the hall because I said to myself, “It’s Cuba, it’s a 3rd world country and they’re poor.” So, I was down for the adventure and didn’t want to be a pushy American complaining. However, when I got to my room I smelled mildew. The dirty mini bar was leaking water all over the floor and the wood frame it sat on was rotten with mildew on it. I can’t believe housekeeping hasn’t changed that out! The furniture was old and looked like it has been stored in a basement for 50 years. The room and the floor I stayed on smelled like it has had severe water damaged. I went to the receptionist desk to change rooms as were several other people and even our tour director! I moved rooms and of course I had to return downstairs 3 times because the door to my new room wouldn’t open! I even asked the housekeeping by my room if they could help but they said they couldn’t speak English. Well, let me tell you about the second room, same bad smell but not as severe and wait for it, BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! Each day I was waking up to bites all over me (pictures included) and I’ve never seen a bed bug in my home before so I didn’t bring those blood suckers to Cuba! At first I thought it was caused by mosquitos but I eventually figured it out (TOO LATE) and told the receptionist but she couldn’t speak English. But her facial expression said otherwise. By the time I figured what was happening it was time for me to go home and I couldn’t get out of Havana fast enough! I did like the food at the hotel. I liked the coffee and wanted to know the name to take some back home but the waiters couldn’t speak English and I got tired of walking up to different staff asking them what was the name of the coffee. They would walk away and say No English, No English, No English, so I gave up on the treasure hunt! How can you be an international hotel and no one speaks English or have a delegate to help international travelers? The other staff just ignored me.Americans want to come to Cuba to learn about the culture but the Memories Miramar Havana Hotel left bites all over me. I will never go back to Cuba and I strongly recommend not staying at this hotel because it was awful. I told Gate 1 Travel about the bed bugs but they couldn’t do anything because the hotel refused to believe what I said and wouldn’t refund my stay. Remember, I didn’t know what the real cause of what was happening to me until it was time to leave and I did tell the receptionist. The hotel said there were no bugs in the room and they had a DOCTOR check it out. A doctor you say? Was it Dr. Pest Control? Again, I didn’t leave America with those straight line bites! No hotel wants to admit they have bed bugs but the evidence is on my body. The cost of this trip was way too expensive for such an AWFUL vacation! As Gresham would say on CSI Las Vegas, follow the evidence because the evidence never lies! You have been warned about this hotel traveler.

Appearances can be deceptive

On arrival at this hotel for an overnight stay as part of an excursion all 29 of the group were delighted as the lobby is stunning. Sadly by the time the last of us were checking in, the first were coming down to complain. Exposed wiring by showers and in public areas, no pillowcases on dirty, stained pillows, no plugs for sink or bath, no shower head or even toilet paper were amongst a myriad of complaints. The 40 minute wait for a dining table wasn't worth the wait as the food was terrible and then an attempt to charge for inclusive drinks was the final straw. The staff were rude with bad attitudes all rude. I wouldn't put a dog in this hotel let alone a person.

Over nite stay on an organised tour to Havana and tropicana club hotel entrance was nice that's all the good I've got to say and thank god it was for 1 nite .the bedding was dirty no towels or iron , towels arrived later much later , went down to eat in the queue decided to go to toilet no soap no hand towels when I came out in asked my husband to get some from mens , none there either I had wipes in my bag but reported it to reception after my food which consisted of soup and bread because not only was it a free for all and not much there but after the toilet episode we thought this was the safest option I went in to see if they had been replenish ed but no they had nt so very poor hygiene. We slept on the towels we finally had coz bedding was nt clean so would nt recommend it

Awful for many reasons don't book

The only positive is the external appearance once you step though the door it's dated and antiquated. It has been a battle since we arrived, no working safe, no towels, no tea and coffee in the room (unless your in the 5th floor), food is appalling and overpriced. The room is like something out of the 1980's, the bed is like sleeping on rocks and the bathroom is falling apart. I'm glad we are only here 3 nights otherwise I would have had to request a transfer.
