Our Opinion
A famous hotel located right in the middle of the local scene in Vedado, the rooms are nice and updated and it has an open air disco on the top of the hotel.
A fun, hip hotel right in the heart of Havana. Incredible selection of entertainment, including a nightclub on the top floor with a retractable ceiling that allows you to take in a show under the stars.
Location: Downtown district of Vedado. 40 min from Havana airport.

Stay on club level!

There is a huge difference between the club level on the 20th floor and the remainder of the hotel. I was initially in the regular rooms but upgraded to club level for 50cuc per night and it was SO worth it. The regular rooms are fine but they are old and run down. The club level is new and updated (and interestingly had American outlets for the plugs whereas the other rooms have European outlets). On the club level you get free breakfast on the 25th floor with an amazing view. Another huge bonus is that you get free wifi on the club level whereas in the regular rooms it's like 5cuc for an hour I think. But be forewarned that the wifi is extremely spotty - you can really only stay connected for 20 minutes or so. Certainly not enough to do work online. They will convert your money for you at the front desk which is nice. And the restaurant right off the lobby by the check in desk has great Cuban sandwiches. The location of the hotel is good - quick walk to the water and the hotel Nacional. Enjoy Cuba!

Historical Hotel

Photos in the lobby in this hotel describe the 1958 revolution adding that Fidel Castro headquarters reside in the hotel. Since then the hotel was renovated but the communist maintenance system is far away from making the right job. We know this fact from many hotels in East Europe that try to move to the capitalist system. Cuba is still a communist country and will take 15-20 year to change. The renovated rooms are large and clean. For 5$ tip the service lady was very polite and helpful. At 8:00 only 2 elevators out of 6 worked and I was waiting 18 minutes at 8th floor to go to the restaurant. Wifi exist only in the lobby and cost 5$ per one hour.Breakfast was OK.

Dont bother

If I did'nt where so tired when we checked in I'w left the hotel in a minute. This is a hotel from the 50s... and it certenly is... even the dirt is from the 50s... The bath tub where black (!) all the painting is gone for severals years ago. the mould between the tyles is discusting. The sheet in the bed was spots on. The smell was not good. very poor capasity on the elevators. We stayed on the 18th floor.Breakfast ok, but really busy and nosy restaurant. We paid over USD 200,- for 1 night...The only positive thing about this hotel is the man that kept Our luggage, he was a big smile and was service minded.

Stay on the 20th floor

My friend and I were here one night only, before starting a G Adventures tour. I had booked our pre-tour accomm direct through the Melia hotel group website, and signed up as a member (free of charge) to get a substantial discount. But what we got upon arrival (due to being a member) was fantastic. Our room was immaculate, modern and luxurious, had free wifi access, and an amazing view over Habana. The wifi signal was strong in our room, which we were told was special for members. The reception staff were lovely, and could speak good english. Breakfast was included and was of great quality and variety. My advice: if you're thinking of staying here, sign up to be a member. From what I understand, the rest of the hotel rooms can be quite tired.Pool area was nice, but the water was too cold to swim.
