Love it there except a couple things the wait staff I would rate a two star we were diamond club and the service was awful my second complaint would be when you call for a golf cart to pick you up they tell you to wait outside right away and 30 minutes later still no one. However when you do go there are two bellboys that go above and beyond yasmel and I don’t remember his name but he’s a very big man. If it wasn’t for those two my rating would be less. The food here is top shelf and the beach is fantastic too. If you don’t like walking and or stairs this is not the place for you. Kids club is great but very short hours
5 weeks in one yearI went for the first time to Memories hotel Holguin end of January 2017. As you have read I only stayed one week and regretted,It should have been two. Well since then I returned twice,December 2017 and January 2018, both for two week periods. All toll 5 wks in 365 days. Some peoples I'll say why? It's the place, the food, the staff, the beach ,the activities and the country. The grounds are built on a hill leading down to the beach which is not too long(bought 3/4. Km) but to the right or left you can continue for km's.The rooms are spacious with all commodities needed. We had a room, both times, near theAqua bar Pool and kids pool..The advantage of being there is you are close to the beach and pool aera where the activities are held.another advantage is you are walking up for your meals, keeping me in shape. When I didn't want to walk I just called front desk,to send a golf cart to bring me to the main lobby where the restaurants are located. Spending two weeks there is no challange food wise. There is such a huge variety of different kinds of food that in our second week we didn't even bother going to the specialty restaurants.Chef Henry does a fantastic job . Special requests are always taken care of by public relations or other members of the staff who bend backwards to make sure your stay will be remembered positively. The lobby bar staff(Miguel,Alexis,Joel, yosvani, yenni,Alfredo,Yudelsis and the others) are all fun and interesting and interested to talk with. The reception people Maryuris and the others are always helpful. All in all five weeks was pritty short and I do miss my new friends.Memories Hotel Holguin Cuba, you will see me again. I recommend you try it out.,best value I have found on the market.Thank you for reading ,feel free to contact if you have any Q's
I''l make it short--Staff excellent, Ksenia, Irina, Di, Sandy, Juan Carlos, Rafael, Anibal,The food typical Cuba, Irate the food maybe a 2- always cold food even the Al A Cartes, this place not good for people with mobility issues, Rooms were nice-old but very clean- our Maid was excellent-Thanks Mirkis
I have traveled for over 30 years and stayed in 2/3/4/5 star hotels and been satisfied with my accommodation and the facilites. At this hotel I have returned quite traumatized. This trip was my first complaint to a tour operator. I would rate Memories Holguin a 2 star. The hotel must have been fine in it's day, but currently in very poor condition.... mostly due to neglect. The RoomWe had the misfortune of being put in room 607. What a welcome. The stairs to our room was broken. The walls were peeling on the outside of the room. Inside the walls had efflorescence. I could not open the doors to the balcony nor the wardrobe and it took all my husband's strength to open either. Pictures where removed and nail holes were not covered. Every nail head in the wood frames were rusted. The electrical outlet in bathroom was not working so my husband had to use the one next to the bed to shave. Paint chips on the dark green doors inside the room made the place look like some dilapidated dwelling and did not make one feel good to be in the room at all or on vacation. As soon as we entered, there were two single beds. I called the desk immediately to ask if there were any queen size or king size beds available and they said no but maybe tomorrow. That night after being there 10 hours - 3 bus loads arrived. Hence, I put this down to customer service not willing to assist a client at point of contact. The next day I was told to see the public relations person - Marcos and he advised me that he would have to speak to the manager. Two days later he said still none available but I could upgrade to a suite. I advised him I was not interested in a suite, I had only asked for a queen or king size bed on arrival. The FoodThe food was substandard at Cuba's standards. I have been to Cuba 5 times. Five of the 7 days offered two fresh fruit choices - only two choices per day! Papaya everyday and either fresh pineapple, oranges, watermelon and once guavas that was so green they must have needed a saw to cut. It is beyond comprehension that the food manager would offer you something that was inedible. Why not keep it and serve it in 3 days when it would be ripe. Two of the 7 days the second fruit choice was CANNED pineapples.I have to admit that the tables at the al la cartes had lovely thematic dishes and was laid out nicely..... but the pasta at the Italian and the seafood stew at the Seafood restaurants was boarder line inedible. The food in the Romantic was fairly good. The worse was yet to come! We arrived on the Wednesday and on the Saturday I was not hungry at lunch and chose to stay and read in my room while my husband went to eat. The cleaning lady came in shortly after my husband left and I decided to leave with my tablet which I had downloaded my book to read as we were going to spend the afternoon on the beach. I am sure I left with my glasses which I have worn since the age of eight. For last 20 years I have worn bi-focal glasses with transition lenses (photo-grey) When I got to the restaurant I took of my glasses as they get pretty dark in the sun. When I got to the beach, I did not have my glasses. I was pretty sure I had left the room with them and asked the restaurant and front desk if they were turned in. They said no. The next day I thought maybe they fell under the bed. Well... what a sight. The lining of the box spring was hanging on the floor. We moved the beds and had to tip it on the side to see the floor. The loose lining of the box spring was full of moth holes and bugs falling out. The mattress was extremely filthy - looked like urine stains all over it. I was so disgusted and sick that I would not even take a photo as it would have tainted my cell phone!!!!!!!!! I am still getting sick just of the taught of what I slept on. Needless to say I am still traumatized by that sight. I cannot believe a hotel would keep such a mattress and allow guests to sleep on it. By the way, I am full of bites.... do not think it was mosquitoes bites... more than likely bed bugs as I felt it in bed.The Beach. On the first day we went for a walk. I could not believe the amount of plastic that was washed on the beach. I asked the public relations (Marcos) and Sunwing rep if I could get some garbage bags and gloves to pick up the plastic garbage everyday when I went for a walk. They both said it was the government that does it and would not look good for guests to do it. Why does not the management of the hotel put pressure on the government to clean up the beach adjacent to their property? Do they have no pride in their resort and it's surrounding properties? Do they not value the economic benefit of their tourist industry? By the way, you can walk the full length of the beach and surrounding walking area in 10 minutes. The seaweed that washed up was cleaned by hand as they not have machinery and just dumped at the periphery of their property. The Sports Centre My first impression of the sports centre was that it reminded me of my excursions to Pompeii, Ephesus, Tulum and the Minoan ruins. Only this also offered you horse manure all around the fields that was only cleaned up on our second last day. It looked liked the tennis courts, soccer field, ping pong and billiard table were destroyed by some catastrophic event....but alas... all a result of willful neglect by management. The PropertyPlease note there are 65 steps from the rooms to the main reception area and dinning room. Walking these 3 - 4 times a day we did not mind, but it could be a problem for those who do not like walking. I chose Cuba as I always feel safe there but came back feeling totally violated.
We visited Memories Holguin from Jan.25th to Feb.1st via Air Canada Vacations. We were a group of 11 ranging in age from 7yrs to 71. The hotel and our rooms were clean and spacious. The staff are 5star plus. So attentive and willing to do anything for you to make your stay memorable. In particular Roberto, Maury, George and Geovanis at the beach and pool bars. They all provided friendly, quick service and were very entertaining. The animation team were excellent as well, keeping everyone happy and entertained even during a rainy day. Eric in particular was wonderful, he took our kids to the sports club on the rainy day and kept them entertained for at least 3 hours in the afternoon. Bravo! The resort is under new management whom we met, Alex. He was very informative and shared some of his ideas for the resort which sounded great. We offered him some feedback and he was very open and receptive even asking us questions. The resort grounds are beautiful and yes there are stairs but the gentlemen driving the golf carts are wonderful. We had 2 women in our group who did need help. If the carts weren't already around a quick call to the front desk and they would send the cart asap. I would recommend this resort to family and friends and will definately return again.
