Playa pesquero cuba

Great hotel with friendly staff and plenty of places to eat. Room are large however a little dated but clean. I would recommend the top floor due to unwanted insects coming in. The pool area is amazing with plenty of sun beds available. Food in main restaurants a little repetitive.extensive choice of speciality restaurants to choose from. Beach is a great place to totally relax with plenty of activities to do. Only negative was that their was no free Wifi which I think is standard in a lot of hotels now, however it was only 2 peso for an hour which is not that expensive. Would recommend this hotel and would defiantly go back again.

Winter sun

Just returned from the Playa Pesquero after a 2 weks winter sun break. We were in block 50 which was just fine about 5 minute walk to the main hotel. The room was large and spacious with a good shower air con if needed and was cleaned daily to a high standard.Playa is a big resort but there are plenty of sun beds to go round at the pool, and beach although umbrelas are limited at the beach and there is the usual scramble for the best spots at silly o clock in the morning. I generally prefer the beach but after a few days on the plastic sun beds my back was killing me and we spent the rest of the holiday at the pool where the sunbeds are fabric. This was a shame as the beach area and sea are lovely. As you walk towards the Blau the sea gets very rocky so the playa end is much more desirable. We quite enjoyed having a drink at the foyer as it a big airey space which alot of the guests also seemed to meet at after a day by the pool. The coffee bar is really good too, and you can get any number of different flavours to go with it.Loath as I am to be critical we didnt think the food was great. One of the reasons we chose the playa was because of the extensive a la carte options as we have had some poor experiences with AI buffet food. Unfortunately the a la cartes were generally disappointing we found and I cant say we had a great meal the whole time we were there. Having said that we did enjoy the chicken at the mojito bar and the tapas at the beer garden for the odd lunch.Dont get me wrong you would have to be seriously picky not to find something to eat here, and there are several stations in the buffet where you can get food cooked to order. There is no doubt though that catering for hundreds of people will affect the quality of food; this isnt something unique to the playa its been our experience at whatever AI hotel we have been at on our travels. We tend to enjoy eating out on holiday and freshly cooked restaurant food will always trump hotel buffets, unless your staying at a top end hotel. We have talked about it and I think we are done with AI for the foreseeable future. We did both suffer with stomach upsets when we first arrived in Cuba, I had a dose of the runs for 3-4 days but recovered and was fine for the rest of the holiday. Ive normally got the constitution of a horse, and cant comment on how or why we became ill, but my advice would be to keep hydrated, acclimatise yourself to the sun and go steady on the booze for a few days.Weve had a lovely relaxing holiday and I would like to end my review by commenting on the staff who as a collective were some of the friendliest most efficient and loveliest people we have met, they really are a credit to the hotel.

Fabulous food

Would highly recommend and have only not given 5* rating due to accommodation only really being 3* standard. Rooms are clean and big but need a refurbishment hence the low rate on this. They are more than adequate however so dont let this put you off unless you are looking for 5* roomsEverything else is almost perfect.Pools are big , safe and clean with swim up bar in one and a bar by the side of the other quieter one.Beach is soft Caribbean sand with crystal clear warm sea. Beach bar and restaurant. Good snorkelling and safe swimming, free watersports. Diving club 10 minute walk on beach available to simply turn up and dive with certification, nice easy and cheap diving at 9am and 11am on boat (step over entry) every day except SundayStaff extremely helpful and friendly at all times, always smiling and willing to helpEntertainment good if not outstanding on good stage area with plenty of seats and tables near bar area with occasional other evening entertainment in main bar a beer garden areas.Saved the best until last. The food and all inclusive package as a whole is the best I have ever experienced as a seasoned traveller. The food is simply fabulous. Grilled shrimps, suckling pig, lobster, stir fries, etc etc etc I could go on forever, you are just spoilt for choice. There is an Italian, Mediterranean, seafood, Caribbean, pork, grill and romantic restaurant choice as well as the main restaurant and you can choose 4 of these a week to book. A great choice but the main restaurant is so good do not feel you have to book them. The beer garden is 24 hours drink and snacks and the main bar is again 24 hours with international branded alcohol included.I would definitely recommend a stay here. Management! please do some refurb in the rooms to complete a full 5* package.

Questionable food hygiene of guests.

After reading some of the reviews on this site, we were dreading our visit to this hotel. Our fears were unfounded. First off, it isn't an official 5 star rated resort, thats a Thomas Cook rating, it is however clean and comfortable. When we were there (Dec2016) all blocks were being refurbished and we got a recently finished room. The mini bar was a bit disappointing, two beers, two soft drinks and 1.5 litres of water, but they were replenished every day. The hotel complex itself is large, but not too large that you can't walk round it in reasonable time, I'm somewhat confused by the Criticism of golf buggies/resort train, try walking, if it's raining, all rooms are provided with two umbrellas! All footpaths and gardens were beautifully kept and clean as was the pool area. Speaking of the pool, there's no shortage of sunloungers, granted it was December, but the pool area was pretty deserted. Pool toilets were spotless (never seen flowers in the gents before!) you can get excellent coffee in the huge foyer/lounge area. All staff are truly brilliant and cannot do enough for you, they do not pester for tips like some on here have said. Now for the downside, food...not brilliant but not as bad as some have painted. DO NOT use tap water for anything but showering, not even cleaning your toothbrush. There are birds in most dining areas, but I never saw any of them on or near the food. I'm convinced that many of the upset tummies at this resort are the fault of the guests, not staff. I wonder if those who get ill are the same as those who spend all day from 9am drinking at the pool bar and then wonder into the dining areas half cut and unwashed? I saw many people with three or four plates piled high with prawns and chicken as if they were never going to get fed again, anybody eating that quantity is asking for trouble. There are antibacterial hand washes at the restaurant entrances for guests, I never saw anybody use them, other than the staff. There are chefs on hand to cook anything you want fresh and do an excellent job. All in all, an excellent relaxing holiday at a very good hotel with a beautiful beach and the friendliest staff I've ever encountered. I really do feel that in many cases, those who get ill do so at their own hand by over indulgence and poor hygiene on their part. It may be all inclusive, but that doesn't necessarily mean all you can eat. Also, for those who said they were refused extra water when ill, its two pesos for two litres at the shop for crying out loud!
