Our Opinion
Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.

Overview
An intimate setting for those who enjoy quiet and beautiful surroundings.

Location: Hillside, 80 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes from the town of Chivirico.

Fantastic to get away

Hotel is quiet, on the top of a hill, be advised that there are 300 stairs down to the beach.Food is great! Staff is VERY FRIENDLY!Not much for tourists to do in town. Perfect to relax and enjoy the sun and beach!

Nice but be aware

This is a small property of roughly 30 rooms only located in an absolutely gorgeous setting above a cute little town way up on a hill. Most of the rooms surround a small pool which is the focal point of your entire time there as everyone sits around it ( other than those who take the steep trek down to the beach ) all day and into the night as the bar is there as is the restaurant. You will get to know almost everyone there as you literally on top of each other throughout your time there. That can be either good or bad depending on who is there when you are. We were very lucky and had a great time as we hung out with wonderful people who we connected with but that doesn't mean it will happen every time as it's the luck of the draw obviously. This hotel does seem to attract an older client base many of whom are repeaters which appears to be a "badge of honour" for some inexplicable reason among those that are. All in all a decent resort with fabulous staff and servers etc. but be warned there's tons of steps to the beach and the town if you wish to go to either. In addition if you are the type of people that wish privacy you will not find that around the hotel common area unless you go to your room.

We didn't get it

Returned last night from a week at this hotel. It has tons of repeat guests and rave reviews, but we just didn't get it. The hotel is clean, staff are great, food ok but we felt so confined. We knew it was tiny, we knew it was on top of a hill, but until you get there you don't realize that there is no privacy at all at this hotel. You walk out of your room door right into the pool area. There is always someone there as many of the older folks don't make the trek down the stairs to the beach. Picture a 1950's motel shaped in a U with the pool in the middle, with no parking lots and a 30X17 foot oval pool. 3 or 4 steps from your door and you're in the pool, 3 or 4 steps from everyone's door! Most of the rooms are in groups of 8 with lattice between the balconies. Just a head's up, we heard everything that neighbours 2 doors down were talking about. Very awkward, but there's nowhere else to sit without being on display around the pool. I guess what others see as the charm at this property we really didn't like. I'm not unsociable but I don't need to talk to everyone at the hotel all day long. Our vacation time is valuable to us. It's time to reconnect and spend time together, which we were able to do, but not the way we like to. There is nowhere to go for a walk without descending the hill to the beach or town. The beach itself is fine, rocky in places but we had our swim shoes. It's not very wide, so not a walking beach. We really missed that. The steps to the beach were a challenge but we made the trek every day. Good bbq lunch down there and guided snorkelling trips every couple of days. A good bunch of guys working down there. Due to the death of Castro while we were there, all evening entertainment was cancelled. We had it the first night and honestly, it was dreadful. We shot a few games of pool after dinner every night and then turned in. There was nothing else to do.We read all the reviews and it sounded like something we'd really enjoy, but we were wrong. We're in our mid 50's and not quite ready for the pace of this property. Maybe in another few years but not yet. We met some really nice people at the hotel and there were no major problems with our stay, it just wasn't for us.

Everything was good but 300 steps up from the beach.

There are many reviews at this site. And all of them seems to be true.November 2-9 2016, One more observationThe weather was fine, not too hot (around 30C) and sunny enough. Two days were windy.Breakfast buffet was very good for three stars, Cuba.Lunch and dinner were à la carte only and also good.Small town of Chivirico down the hill, has no touristic value. I walked through it heading to the mountains. Views from Sierra Maestra slopes are spectacular.Coral reefs start directly from the beach. But marine life is poor to none. Waves are as low as you only can expect it in open sea. Maybe, I was lucky with this. No more than 20 guests came to the hotel, all of them were seniors. It was quiet and peaceful. No Cuban families as guests No noisy musicMy room was 108, and it is maybe the worst at the hotel, but yet fine.

Oh how I miss Los Galeones

Last year we went to a 5 star resort in Costa Rica after 19 trips to Los Galeones. Our first comment was It's not Las Galeones. Oh how I missed Dora, Ilian, Eddy, Judy, Jose at the bar, Antonio the chef, Sandra, Orlando at the beach bar, Elsa, Glynis, sorry if I missed your name but I still live you and miss you.
