Small rustic hotel with beautiful scenery, 294 steps to the ocean–lovely small beach at the bottom. Perfect for travellers that want a quiet escape. Great staff that makes you feel at home, thoughtful food–can't wait to return.
Just got back from a week at Los Galeones. This was our first time to Cuba and people had warned us about Cuban standards, so we weren't sure what to expect. Los Galeones is a quaint little place built way up on a hill top. All of the rooms have amazing views of water, mountains, village, or a combination of them all. It is old and rustic but kept very clean and in great shape. The staff are fantastic - they become like family. The food is very good. The breakfast buffet has bacon, sausage, cheeses, breads, fruits and made to order eggs. You do not go hungry. Lunch can be ordered a la carte or there is a beach BBQ. Dinner is usually a la carte but sometimes buffet style. I enjoyed all of it even though the menu is a tad limited. The beach is beautiful and swimmable - we were in the ocean many times - it was clear, clean, and warm. We did not need bug spray at any time. It is totally worth the 300 stairs to get there. There are no activities here but you can go to the nearby sister resort. We went and rented a scooter to drive up the coast - it was an awesome day! We also walked through the town of Chivirico and always felt safe to do so. This spot was perfect for us but you should always do your research - it's very quiet and very small
Visited between Dec 3rd -14th. This is our third time visiting Los Galeones in the last 4 years and the main attraction for us was the reefs just of the beach. There has been a steady decline of fish on the reefs over the last several years. The morning prior to the day we departed there were 4 different spear fisherman combing the reefs in front of the Hotel beach. On two of our snorkeling outings we almost ran into two different fisherman. Large fish which were easily spotted on our first trip, were non existent and those that were left were less than half the size and skittish as soon as we approached, quickly swimming under the rocks and caves. The reef itself has seen a lot of wear and tear, from people standing on portions and not being careful on others. The tops of a lot of coral heads were dead and fan corals which cover the reef had numerous broken arms. I have been a scuba diver for over 40 years and would rate the snorkeling experience as poor.We love the resort itself and the people running it are excellent. The bands at night were great and the food is good. Although beware that we were told the bands are not paid, so there is a pressure to tip every evening. It's a great place to get away but if you're coming to see the reef, be aware of my comments above.
Just came back from Brisas. 10 days for 780$. It was almost perfect for me and my wife. In some point we were the youngest couple and I am 63. Small resort around 30 rooms. Repeat customers in their 70 s and older. And it’s amazing because to the beach u have to go down 300 steps and back one more time 300. I am in good shape and considered it like good training, but way up from the beach was same time to much after good dinner and a drinks. They’re serving dinner in a beach bar and it’s not bad. We befriend guys from beach staff and they prepared for us lobster almost every dinner.Beach not crowded because old people can’t just go down and back. Just I didn’t like a fact that they don’t have buffet for dinner, you have to order and wait. Not very convenient. Every day life bands and they not bad at all. No animation team,no drunk buddies,no rude vacationers. Staff are almost perfect. Get sick one day,get help from medical nurse very fast and it helped me. So it’s like big family. If price will be right probably return in much.
Truly great staff and manager Eddie is awesome. Good food, Lovely and tranquil atmosphere. Great place for a very quiet, relaxing vacation. Small resort, so you will have opportunity to get to know the staff and some other fellow travellers. Mostly quiet, book-reading or hiking/cycling folks, or seniors who are interesting to meet and who enjoy this truly intimate setting. View of mountains and sea all around is lovely. Nice little restaurant at the bottom of the mountain is great if you need a change of scenery. Evenings great musicians come up from the village to sing during dinner. The beauty of eating outside and listening to local Cuban music with no amplification is truly heavenly! NOT a party place, not suitable for those who need any activities to be provided or looking for any nightlife. One little backyard-sized pool, one small 8' bar and one small dining room. 34 rooms in 5 one-storey blocks. Period. The whole resort sits on maybe 2 acres total at the top of the little mountain. Cozy but not very private outside of room.Steep climb down nearly 300 cement stairs to the very small beach with lots of big rocks scattered in the water, frequent red flags and strong current/undertow. Some little tide pools to sit in are quite nice. Cozy beach bar, sand and some trees. Some folks manage to snorkel a bit, but this beach has some really serious limitations for swimmers. Not a long beach for walking/strolling either.Super steep hill down to the village, means being very mobile/fit or arranging a cab for 3CUC each way. Not anything at all for tourists in that village, though it can be nice to walk around and see how the Cuban people live. Rooms are quite nice but mattresses a bit hard or lumpy. Sometimes the water goes off, sometimes for hours for even a few days at a time and guests flush their toilets with water bucketed from the pool. Staff do their best with repairs but infrastructure has issues. A place ONLY for easy-going and adaptable travellers! This is the kind of place you either love and find charming and endearing, or you are bored, dissatisfied, disappointed and swear never to return to again. Not much reaction in the middle it seems. So consider carefully before booking here. It really isn't for everyone.
