Our Opinion
Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.†

Just ok

It was a quick 4 day vacations. The room was clean and the beds very comfy. As expected the resort is dated and REALLY needs more bars. The wait for the lobby bar is painful. I never expect to enjoy the food in Cuba but this resort the food was exceptionally poor. I only ate at the buffet once, each time I walked in and tried to, but the food was the same at every meal, every day... I would stay here again, location is spot on and the price was right, I just wouldn't plan to eat on the resort

Sort of alright

Ok so, this hotel isn't horrible. If you're going to Cuba for the beach and the weather, and aren't too concerned with anything more than a place to sleep, then you can't go totally wrong staying here. The buffet is alright, and will suffice. The staff is mostly pretty good, particularly if you tip them the odd peso here and there. The pool is not too bad and could use some work (rather "gritty" in spots due to disrepair. We just got home yesterday so while there the pool bar was closed until high season. The rooms have either 3 double beds or a king size with a twin as well. The bathroom is a good size with hot water on point and good water pressure. HOWEVER: one of our rooms had excellent air conditioning and a functioning fridge and tiny ants in the bathroom. The other had a broken fridge and acceptable A/C with no ants in the room. The hotel is pretty rundown but the staff does their best to keep it clean, ( they are always cleaning). The lobby bar functions as the main bar but closes down at midnight. There is NO 24 hour bar here. They want you to go to the club next door which has free entry and is open until 4am but you have to pay for your drinks. There is a snack bar with burgers and hotdogs from 11pm until 6 am. There is an ala carte restaurant but it's the same food that they serve in the buffet so that's something to remember. Also booking the ala carte is tricky as the lady who does the booking is only available 11:15 and 12 and sometimes she's not there. The beach is about a block and a half away and is amazing. There are free catamaran, kayaks and pedal boats if just hanging out in the ocean isn't quite your speed. There is a bar at the beach for drinks, and hamburgers and hotdogs which are really good. You do have to navigate the locals who will beg you every step of the way to the beach as well as try and sell you cigars while you're in the ocean. Security does their best to keep this to a minimum but you are leaving hotel grounds to go to the beach. So on the while I can recommend this place but with the caveat that if you're overly picky, you will not like it here. If you're looking for some sun, and a very nice beach then you'll have a great time.

It's not bad

This was my first all-inclusive trip and it wasn't a bad experience. The rooms themselves look fairly aged but it wasn't a turn off or anything. Bed sheets and room were clean. The resort itself was adequate. The pool water was always clear, but the tiles at the bottom of the floor felt grimy at times. Unfortunately when we went in July, the 2nd pool with the pool bar was closed off, I'm not sure if it was for construction, because it didn't look like it. The restaurants were clean and respectable. Staff were very friendly. The location I'd say is prime. The beach is a short distance away, the club and bars are close-by as well.

Great location worst hotel ever

This hotel does not offer all the stuff it says it does. Only one pool was open snack bar doesn't give you beer doing the day. The bar close to the pool closes at 5 then you got to walk into the lobby to go get drinks. The swim up bar pool was closed room service is knocking at your door at 8:30 was there for 4 night they only cleaned my room once and left us our dirty towels and no cleaned ones. The staff there are all rude there is mouse in the hotel we took pictures and someone puked in our hallway in the afternoon only got cleaned the next day. When checking out they took us we lost 4 towels which wasn't true because what ever towels we had we left it in the room and then they changed it to 2 towels and wanted $18 this place is bull of scan bags worst place I was at. We didn't pay because we never lost it they just wanted to pocket the money. I would differently go back to the location but never again to this hotel.

6th and Final Time there!!

We have been here 1-2 times a year since 2013. I loved the place, the location and the staff. I know it had issues, wasn't the greatest resort, but we loved it none the less. Till our trip April 29-May13/17.The first week of the trip was okay. But by Saturday they had shut down two of the pools and emptied them. Some say it was shut by the government,or maybe they just wanted to clean them. Who knows. After that everyone had to use the third pool, then that started to get a bit iffy. But Sunday was full blown disgusting. Kept making complaints, but was getting nowhere. Finally offered a move to different Hotel. Sadly that took 2 1/2 days to happen. Only to be put in a room with more issues, No air conditioning, patio door wouldn't open and construction outside 24/7. Went downstairs request a move, TOMORROW! So eventually all moved and settled. Our second week, we lived out of suitcases and enjoyed 2 1/2 days before returning home.We made our issues known to WestJet Vacations, they in turn contacted Palma Real. Palma Real feels they did their best to satisfy us by moving us. We basically lost the second week except the last couple days, what about those days hanging in the lobby waiting!!.You can transfer people across the street without thinking twice when it benefits your resort. I know because my sister was asked to change hotels when she was there in February. She spent 4 days at Palma Real(where she went because of me) and 6 at Arenas Blancas.I will miss my favourite housekeeper, cooks, wait staff and bartenders. But we will make new friends or maybe see them in passing. But my money is as good as anyone else's and I do not need to be treated the way the director of sales felt the need to treat us.Thank you Palma Real, I will not be recommending you like I did my first time there. We are done!!
