Blau Marina Varadero
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.
Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.
Excellent location at the very end of the peninsula which provide you with greater privacy on the beach and you are always first to be collected by any of the tour buses. Lovely grounds and the pools are clean. The staff are very attentive and friendly; typically Cuban. The public areas are clean and nicely presented but what really lets this resort down is the poor food and the tired appearance of the rooms. An extensive buffet is provided but it it sometimes difficult to construct a dish from what's on offer. Breakfast on many occasions included Brussel sprouts and mash potatoes????? There are a few al le carte restaurants which do offer an escape but these aren't particularly great either. I'm not a foodie but I found what was on offer a great let down. Whereas the public areas are well appointed the individual rooms have been left to decay. The door to our mini bar was hanging off and the scum marks on the bath made this a no go area. The appearance of cockroaches from under the bath on the second day didn't help but the hotel did appear to sort this at the second time of asking.Varadero as an area is great and the sea and weather is wonderful but if I was to go back I would chose another hotel because although you would never starve, the food really was poor.
We just came back from the Blau Marina Varadero Cuba and I have to say the upgrades were awesome.I love all the new colours of the all the units. The rooms and furniture in them were freshly painted and look great. Tvs were upgraded to LED ones which made watching tv a lot better. We did notice tube tvs in some units on the other side of the resort so we know they are working on them.FOOD: food was good but they really really need to work on having warm food. After a few days we got tired of cold eggs and cold meats. We skipped the buffet at lunches and went to the light house for a hot pizza or pasta which both were very good.SPECIALTY RESTAURANTS: All I can say is DON'T bother. We went to the seafood restaurant which was a huge was of time. Calamari and octopus and it was awful. We were expecting a nice shrimp or lobster dinner. We did 2 dinners and I would not recommend going to any. They really need a new menu for those.WIFI: they have Wifi in the lobby for $1.50 for one hour. Which is pretty reasonable I thought. I bought 3 cards. What they didn't tell you was you have to go on a website to sign off of wifi. Just clicking your wifi off on your phone or tablet wasn't good enough. If you didn't sign off, it used your whole hour and you had to buy another card. I was not to happy about that. I lost 3 cards with 1/2 left on all before someone told me how to sign off the 3rd time I complained.COFFEE MAKERS: They have coffee makers in the rooms. However, they do not supply coffee, cream, sugar or even a spoon. Luckily we brought all of that. We came packing with Timmys coffee, filters, a thermos full of cream, sugar and 2 plastic spoons. Timmys coffee every morning was the best way to start the day in Cuba..lol. Make sure to get your water container filled at the bar every day. They do give you one every day but sometimes they forget, so always good to have back up. We had coffee twice a day so we always had 2 bottles on the go.ACCESSIBLE: I have to say they are trying very hard to make their resort accessible. I was very impressed at the amount of ramps every where. The only sketchy one was from the main lobby to the light house. My brother who is in a wheel chair would never be able to go up that ramp. It would take a couple guys to help him up. Other then that one, they have done a wonderful job making the resort accessible. Hat off to them for sure.We were in the 1100 until with a pool view. It was an awesome view. I loved watching the people when we were in our room. We were also close to everything.I am a travel agent and I can't wait to book clients there. The marina is across the street and I just loved it over there. My only complaint over there is they need more shelter set up from the sun so you can sit by the water and just watch the boats. We walked over there several time. We took the catamaran trip and were just able to walk over. It was awesome. The hotel is close to the very end of the strip. It is a long ride into downtown Varadero but its also a quiet area to stay in which we liked.
Spent a glorious week at this resort. The food was wonderful at the buffet. The staff was beyond friendly and very helpful. I loved every minute of my stay. Only downside was the mosquitoes. Always bring bug spray.
There has been a lot of renovations to this resort since I was there last year. The lobby, buffett and rooms have all been redone. Really nice. The staff work really hard and make sure your stay is pleasant. They all go out of their way to help you.
Our room had a great view of the ocean, food was excellent and staff were very friendly.Resort was just reopening after renovations. Our room was on the third floor, which offered excellent views of the ocean, and surrounding area.
