Blau Marina Varadero
- What's Included

A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.
Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.
This was our first time to Cuba, we have been to other Caribbean countries with the same star, we cannot complain. you have to realize this is Cuba not Hawaii. the Beds are not the most comfortable, we never went hungry or thirsty. the Cappuccino in the Lobby was our nightly favorite. we went there for the heat, sand and sun. i found the fit, finish of the rooms were perfect. the hot water was instant and always there. The staff could not do enough for us. only 1 recommendation, take mosquito spray we were biten at night during the entertainment, i contracted chikungunya and cannot blame the Hotel. there is spray there but very expensive.
We arrived at Blau early in the day and were shown to our room immediately. Check in was fast, and we were greeted with a lovely smile, changing money is quick and straightforward and is at the desk where you check in. Customer service and restaurant reservations are right next to the check-in desk. Everything is very easy to find. The room was located in block 12. We had a top floor ocean view room. Block 12 is located next to the main pool, so one side has pool view and the other an ocean view. The beach is steps away from the beach and is privy to beautiful sun rises. Lillian was the person in charge of our room. Our room was clean, and our bedding was changed and towels fresh when we requested without any issues. Every day we would return to made beds with beautiful creations she made with our towels, and somehow she made a teddy bear out of a blanket! We did find the room cold with the fan and AC and turned it off to sleep. There were plenty of activities for my 10-year-old daughter and Nadia makes amazing grilled sandwiches at the pool snack bar. My daughter fell in love with her. The bartenders were excellent as well and the guys in charge of the entertainment at the pool and ocean as so energetic, people just loved taking part, that is rare I’ve been to other places where it wasn’t as good.We took out a catamaran and paddle boat when we weren’t swimming in the ocean or lounging on the beach. It is a bit shelly so watch your feet! Some are broken and will cut you if you are not careful. The food was well, it’s Cuba, and the service makes up for lack of variety. The food was not bad, especially the fresh mad tortillas, crepes, and omelets. They work so hard make sure to give them tips. We were blessed to have incredible servers. They doted on my daughter, and one woman who I also want to call Nadia made roses out of napkins for her.We did not enjoy the a la carte restaurants, especially the Italian. I as give a dirty glass filled with red wine to discover it had been used and covered in dried on cake icing – gross!! We walked out on the meal. At the BBQ one, the waitress spilled red wine all over the table when she poured and gave major attitude. So we didn’t bother going to our third reservation. It rained for a day during out stay, and the staff was quick to hand out games and open up the stage area to entertain people, and everyone had a great time. The lobby was open and airy, and the service again was wonderful. We had no issues at all. We always got what we asked for, and the Spanish coffee was just what I needed to start my day.The bus to go to downtown Varadero stops just outside the resort and costs 5CUC; it is worth it! It runs most of the day, and you can get on and off as you please. The Havana one day is a must as well; we will never forget bus 2617, haha.I have read a lot of poor reviews, and I don’t understand what people are talking about. I just have to think that they didn’t tip, which is what we saw a lot. The people at the resort work very hard and bend over backward to make their guests happy. We gave tips and gifts for the staff’s children (just things from dollarama), and they were extremely grateful.I can’t express how thankful that my brother who stayed here suggested it. Thank you, everyone, at Blau for making this vacation one to write home about. Mucho gracias and hasta pronto!
This was an excellent hotel, we had an amazing time here. It is located on the Varadero Peninsula, and has direct access to Cuba's most beautiful beaches. We stayed in a more "exclusive" part of the hotel called El Cayo, where the food is excellent (Thanks to Chef Adrian, whom we had the pleasure of meeting) and the service there is definitely welcoming and 5 star quality (We got lucky and had the same server several times, her name was Yenifer, with a Y not a J ;) and aside from being very welcoming and friendly she spoke english which was very useful to us when we had questions about local attractions). If you're looking for a hotel with all the amenities and the friendliest service, this is the place to be!
My husband and I wanted to spend an extra week in Cuba so we decided to book at the Blau Marina Resort. When we first arrived the rooms were not very clean. If you like sleeping on a box spring mattress well you get your wish at this resort. If you are planning to eat canned food like carrots, green beans and corn well that is what you will get. Chicken and mashed potatoes for breakfast that is not what I was expecting.Regarding the service, there were none, the staff of the Resort were over worked and not very friendly. How do you expect good service when you are over worked. If you wanted a snack forget it, there was only one place to snack besides the horrible buffet. The beaches were not maintained, there was piles of garbage everywhere. There was no maintenance done on the pools. My husband and I got a stomach virus while we were there, not sure if it was from the food or the dirty pools. I will not be returning to Cuba due to the lack of friendliness. The locals are used to Canadians and they have found ways to manipulate you and your money.
Stayed 5-13 Feb as a couple. Her second time, his first time in Cuba. Resort was very quiet for the first couple of days, not a lot of people around, it was very nice. Busier towards the end, but still not crowded.Very spread out, lots of beach, 4 or 5 different palapa areas. Most of them in good condition. Beautiful beach area for walking. End of the peninsula so there was not much through traffic on the beach. Food was typical Cuban, my first time here so I was worried about the food being bland and repetitive. It may have been repetitive, but it was far from bland, lots of flavour. Same as any resort in Mexico or D.R.. The staff at the buffet were always fabulous, if not a bit over worked. They were very friendly and helpful. We did the omelettes for breakfast, hot tasty eggs. Rest of the food lines were questionably cooler than I would have liked, but the food was cooked well. The grill chef for breakfast and lunch was the most cheerful man I have ever met. Ate at the Italian restaurant (fantastic), the BBQ (not so fantastic), and the Spanish restaurant (it was ok). Entertainment was repetitive, 4 of the 8 nights were the same resort staff dancing to a routine that was almost the same. The Magic night was awesome!!!Bar staff were busy, but if you went to the bar there was never a long wait. Sometimes if you stayed at your table you would wait a while for service, but as I said, the staff were busy. Drinks were typically all-inclusive style, with LOTS of rum. Some times we would order a glass of coke to cut our Cuba Libres to a more drinkable level. But mostly they were fantastic, both the service and the drinks being served. Beach bar staff and the pool bar staff were awesome.Didn't use the water sports activities, but every time we went by (except the day it was crazy windy) they had all the stuff out, and I watched people using the catamaran and the paddle boat. The ocean in this area is shallow, great for an inexperienced snorkeler as myself, where I could snorkel over the reef and still get back to a sandy area to stand up if needed. Snorkeling the one day was great, the wind had died down and the sea was calm and smooth. We did the hop on - hop off bus tour of Varadero, which had no talking and was more just a ride in to town that let you see all the other resorts on the way. Varadero is a nice older town, with lots of great shopping districts. Go off the beaten path a ways and find the public beach access, what a beautiful area, and a beautiful beach as well. Our tour of Havana was done in a private taxi, with our own tour guide. Almost the same price as the bus, except lunch was extra. We had a chance to do 4 or 5 different walking tours of the city, with our guide leading us through the alleys and side roads. She was very knowledgeable and informative, and took time to let me take photos the whole day.The room was clean, air conditioning worked, shower took a long time to get warm most days. The maid service was fantastic, we left a bag of treats for her every day and got some creative towel designs, and hand written thank you notes. The building was a bit loud, echoing hallways, etc, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. The grounds were well cared for, the gardening staff were always around doing clean up, with an occasional coconut cracked open for a beverage (just add rum). The beach area was raked with tractor every couple of days, quite a bit of sea weed, but its the ocean so no surprises.
