Blau Marina Varadero
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.
Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.
This resort was the worst experience of my whole Cuba trip. We were very much looking forward to a relaxing stay at an all inclusive resort. However, we ran into complication after complication with this hotel! They offered our friends and family guest passes, but then refused to actually sell them. We couldn't get reservations at any of the restaurants, nor could we get massages. The have strict rules, but they are not transparent about what the rules are. Management refused to speak to us and in the end we ended up deciding to leave early and get our money back. If your plan is to stay for less than three days consider a different resort in Varadero, as it takes at least three days to learn their rules. If you really want to have fun at a location that appreciates you go to the public beach by the Tobacco House in Varadero and Beatles for late night fun.
I can agree with much of what Matt G says in his review so I don't need to re-write it. I think the whole place needs better management. Waited frequently long times in the lobby bar to be served even when sitting actually at the bar, as well as at the tables. The room could do with a very good spring clean all over. Several of the facilities were not open - why? The second pool area did not get cleaned every day. Food was only just edible - something they called beef stroganoff was minced meat with peas! Main buffet dining area was always hideously hot - what happened to the airconditioning?Dont bother looking for a change by booking in advance for the special restaurant. Food is absolutely nothing like Italian or Spanish and very small portions so that you go to the overly hot buffet for a top-up! Mini bar was a bottle of water and maybe 2 cans of beer or 2 cans of lemon drink - not my idea of a mini bar - also it was not replaced every day as they say it will be. We learned that there is no point in expecting too much from other resorts either because although they have names on them such as Melia or Iberostar they are not owned or managed by these companies - instead they are owned by Cuba and definitely NOT 5 star. Lucky to be 3.
We went to cuba for the first time this year. We stayed at the Blau Marina Varadero for a week and we enjoyed it the most.First of all, let me state that we cannot look at star ratings in this type of resorts the same way we look at Europe or North America Hotels. It just does not work that way. So, a five star is not a 5 star Europe resort. Is more like a 3.5 perhaps 4 star at the most. But being specific about the place:1 - The rooms are fairly good. Simple, with air con and with a lot of imperfections. But, you are in the Caribbean. The room is for sleep and for that it is quite nice. There is plenty of space for storage etc. Good mirrors and a simple bathroom.2 - The service is very good. Employees are nice and they do not act as some others in cuba always asking for tips. Actually, there nobody asked for tips and service was very good. Everybody was nice.3 - Food. There are several restaurants in the resort. The Buffet restaurant changes its food at a daily basis. There is a pizza station, salad station, grilled station and others. Then there are several other restaurants. A Spanish and an Italian thematic restaurants and 2 grills. One of the grills is open 24/7. Food is average. Breakfast is definitely the best meal of the day.4 - The Bars - There are lots of bars everywhere and also a coffee place. They have amazing beverages and sometimes also serve food. Mojitos and Pina-coladas are delicious.5 - The pools. Because the resort is HUGE, there are various pools and every pool is different. So I advise to enjoy all of them. There are several activities taking place in the pools. Classes, dancing, volleyball etc.6 - The Beach. Although a bit windy the beach is beautiful. Golden sand and gorgeous sea makes it amazing to be there. Also there is an open bar on the beach and activities always going on. Football, volley, dance classes. There are also kayaks and Catamarans for hotel clients to ride on the sea. Which is amazing and free.7 - Spa. There is a gym, with jacuzzi, sauna, and others which also very good. Most of the people don´t use it, I used it almost everyday. Awesome.8 - Activities. As I already told you guys, there are a lot of activities taking place in various places in the resort. Also there is a show every single night. Magic shows, dancing shows, you name it they have it.9 - Game room. There is a small game room with a ping pong table and some books. Could be better.10 - Football and ténis courts are always empty. I went to play tennis, they gave me a bold ball and a crappy gear.11 - Lobby. A beautiful place with a very good bar and where you can buy travel tickets to everywhere. Very comfortable for the morning cappuccino and the evening cap.12 - What I hated. Mosquitos. There are mosquitos everywhere and the repellent they sell you at the store (witch is very well equipped) is expensive and doesn't fully work. Internet service is a piece of s***. Cards are expensive. doesn't work well and this is annoying. But there two factors are the same everywhere in cuba. Internet is s*** and mosquitos are just annoying.Verdict:I would go there again today if I could. Don't expect any type of luxury. Expect fun and amazing nature. That is it. Enjoy the beach and the snorkeling. Take advantage of the spa and the pools. Also, if you like burgers or hot dogs, when you go to the grill ask for the opposite thing you want because Maria, although a very nice person, cannot recall a request. LOLCheers
totally enjoyed the beach and the get away in mid februaryfood was passable, and the main buffet restaurant was pleasing most of the time.there where even times that it had live music-Lobby bar was fun a few times with a lively group and live music- i got everyone up dancing one night-rooms where very nice
I came to this hotel with my son and a friend and her son. This hotel is good for all ages, plenty to do. The pool is nice, water slide is fun for the kids, food was repetitive, but go to the Italian a la carte it was fabulous!shows were good, but the kids were so tired we didn't see all of them.Lobby was fun with live music, and lots of chairs, but a little too smokey at time.beach party was a great time even for the kids to run around in the dark, we brought them glow necklaces and brackets and they had fun with themThis hotel is at the furthest end of the strip (away from the town) but the double decker bus comes out front of the property often to go in to town for the market/restaurants and shops.we had joining rooms, and they we had a great view of the pool, close to everything.I would recommend this hotel.
