Our Opinion

A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.

The Blau Marina is located on a beautiful two-kilometre-long stretch of white-sand beach and turquoise waters; nature lovers will enjoy strolling the beautiful gardens throughout the hotel's spacious grounds. Located across from Marina Gaviota, the most important Sea Point in Cuba and minutes from the Punta de Hicacos Ecology Park.

Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.

Not bad

The food was decent, the hotel was alright. The rooms smelt like paint thinner, furniture in the room had just been shellacked. The staff were really great, met lots of cool people. The beer was on tap and usually flat, you could buy international beer and alcohol fairly cheap though. We stayed at this Hotel in November of 2015. If you could stay cheap it might be worth it.

Hotel was CLOSED

We had booked to stay at this hotel two months before our trip. When we arrived at the entrance to the hotel we were informed by the guard that the hotel was closed. You can understand the stress this caused, as we had received no information about any changes to our reservation. I would not recommend booking with this hotel.

This was our third trip to Cuba and the first time we were really disappointed. The only thing we did enjoy was the beach. We booked this resort because it had a good selection of restaurants but when we went to make reservations we found out that they only opened most of them once a week or so and you had to make sure you booked them as early as possible. Depending on when you arrive you might now get to eat at the restaurant you want. We ended up eating at the buffet most of the time, The one al la carte we did attend we were busy watching the staff. One of the waitresses was so sick and she was crying but kept working. The rooms were not bad but the showers were. I hated having to shower in there. I left my flip flops on to shower. I usually don't really give bad reviews but this resort really needs some work.

One night stay

I was booked into the Blau Varadero. On arrival I was informed there was no availability and I was upgraded to this hotel for one night. On arrival the reception staff were friendly. I was advised beach towels were available from 9am to 5pm. However on attempting to obtain one I found the location was closed. Another guest was also trying to change her towels. The man in charge of this service was at the beach bar. He stated he was on his lunch. Whilst I appreciate he is entitled to lunch and breaks the service is advertised as available from 9am to 5pm and therefore should be available with another staff member covering. I found this member of staff to be the only rude and unhelpful Cuban I encountered within 2 weeks of staying in Cuba. This by far is not a 5* service.I only stayed the one night and for that purpose the room and food was adequate. I would not class this a a 5 * hotel. I would recommend people stay at the sister hotel the Blau Varadeor which although is rated 4* my view it is off a much better standard.

Hotel rooms are falling a part

I just returned yesterday from this hotel and my stomach still sick. Food was terrible and dining rooms was filthy, swimming pool just for kids size, cooks are arrogant and many times food trays was empty and almost every second day we had same low quality food or way over cook meat, chicken etc.Bad in the room not comfortable at all, They had to change mattresses twice but every time for worse one than before, finally they decide to put two mattresses together but springs was in my ribs, room maid wasnt happy at all our complain, also funny first she was speaking english than when I start to complain about problem, she said(in spanish), she doesnt speak english. I complained about our tour rep.(sunwing), he said its his last day in this hotel, he cant do nothing about it, front desk send me customer dept, and they send m e a housekeeping dep., and they said thats all they have. Starting your vac. at horrible citation, after sitting 5 hours at lobby(bcs rooms are not ready before 4 pm), After all problems I can say recreation dept., lobby bar stuff, waiters and waitresses in dining room was very nice and helpfull. Hotel mananement after us they decide to shut down to hotel for ajor repairings, They start to let go their stuff for minimum 2 months with last minuet notice and no paiment, they transfered bunch of visitors to other hotels bcs., they like to shutdown to hotel. IT WANST PROFETIONAL WAY FOR STUFF AND VISITORS. If planing to visit this place I like to say think twice, even after constraction, because I belive 2 months is not enough to repair this hotel, because is everything a falling a part.
