Our Opinion

A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.

Overview
The Blau Marina is located on a beautiful two-kilometre-long stretch of white-sand beach and turquoise waters; nature lovers will enjoy strolling the beautiful gardens throughout the hotel's spacious grounds. Located across from Marina Gaviota, the most important Sea Point in Cuba and minutes from the Punta de Hicacos Ecology Park.

Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.

no animations, 10% of the hotel open only, A DISASTER

We booked trough a travel agency, after Irma, we wrote directly just to know if some part of the hotels were touched. They replied no, it was a complete lie, well the hotel was not touch by Irma but was under reconstruction completely.when we arrived they said they upgrade us to the privilage part. We had a baby, it was only for adults, no baby chair of bed.We arrived at 6 pm the lady from the publi relations was there she said she didn't understand us because we were in the luxury part of the hotel. She said exceptionnaly babies are welcome as privilege and you have lots of activities. We got to the restaurant, on the menu there was only 3 plates of the 20 because at 8 am they ran out of food the waitress said plus children were not allowed. The staff was completely incompetent smoking and drinking as clients at the bar. After the disaster of the restaurant, we tried the buffet, it hadn't been cleaned in a month I think, same buffet at dinner, breakfast and lunch without changing platesDO NOT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solo short trip in November 2016

Overall, I am very satisfied with the hotel and my stay. I am not a picky traveler, nor do I fuss over the little things as I expect a clean bed, working AC, edible food, respectable staff and all around welcoming facilities. All of the previously noted I received. The not so great:* Check in was slow and delayed delayed delayed. By the time I was able to get to my awesome room in the first building to the right of the main lobby (absolutely awesome location except for being across from the club but that didnt bother me), I was so very very drunk from sitting around and doing nothing but drink beer after beer.* No single CuCs everytime I asked for change. Made tipping a little expensive but also more sparse than I would liked.* Food was okay. Most restaurants closed or not available to me, but I am also the type to be quite fine at the buffet. I never went hungry but the service was poor at best. Breakfast was the best and I wish I could remember the name of the fellow who cooked up the eggs/omelettes etc as he was amazingly friendly and outgoing.* Entertainment was good I guess but not my thing. The better or oh so great:* Sergio in the lobby bar. 'Nuff said. I never waited for a drink or coffee when he was around.* Room was clean and everything I needed.* Room bar was always stocked and ready for me.* THE most amazing beach I have seen in Varadero to date.*Sergio: Did i mention that?* The pools were great and I was more than happy sitting alone at the adult pool with work in hand and never without drink or water. All in all: Would I stay here again? The answer is yes and I hope my experience is equally quiet and comforting.Darryl

Needs a lot of improvments

Good: Beach is very close and nice, Food was actually good. Pools were clean.Bad: Room was old and dirty; very dirty in common areas. Ugly:Mosquitoes were terrible. My young son got bit over 50 times!Smoke everywhere – not very nice for non-smokers and young children.

New name Barcelo Marina Palace

Absolutely love this property. We chose a building farther away so we could enjoy the walk. They accomodate our request for a ground floor room. Food was better than expected even though we watched ladies taking whole cheese chunks from the buffet.Take strong bug spray with deep. Even so, we were unable to stay long at the evening entertainment. The bugs were voracious. Maybe they will spray. Morning coffee at Hemmingway's was a tradition.
