Our Opinion

A very pleasant resort in Varadero. The Blau Marina Resort is a great resort that offer luxurious amenities. Tons of food choices. The buffet items are probably the freshest of the lot. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants as well. OK drink choices. The bars very rarely keep top-shelf items, so the drinks taste rather watered down. Great rooms that are well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The service from the team can vary. However, the majority of staff members are pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of activities offered, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do. Amazing beach location with plenty of loungers. One of the better choices to stay in Varadero.

The Blau Marina is located on a beautiful two-kilometre-long stretch of white-sand beach and turquoise waters; nature lovers will enjoy strolling the beautiful gardens throughout the hotel's spacious grounds. Located across from Marina Gaviota, the most important Sea Point in Cuba and minutes from the Punta de Hicacos Ecology Park.

Location: Directly on the beach, 35 min from the Varadero airport.

The worst service we have ever experienced!!

We arrived at the hotel and after checking in we waited for someone to help us with our luggage and show us to our room, however this did not happen. All the staff at reception were talking amongst themselves and totally ignored us. We then used the map we were given by reception to find our room, but ended up spending half an hour before we located it due to the size of the resort. We even past some hotel staff while looking for our room and they did not offer to help, but instead pointed us in the direction we needed to go. They also all speak very little English, however this is not an excuse for poor service. Also be aware of the mosquitoes in the evenings in the reception area - it's disgusting!! We got bitten all over and saw others scratching themselves like crazy!

Return Visit

I have been to this resort a number of times. Every time I go back they are upgrading. The upgrades look really nice. I understand there is new management and there is a few things they need to work out to make this place. In April they were short staffed for the amount of people that were there. Other than that this place is awesome and the people that work here work really hard and are very friendly. I will be back soon.

Bad experience or bad luck.

Before you start reading , please note that I am Cuban born and raised . It had been at least 15 years since I went to Varadero last and my expectations were low . My husband and I took our family of 4 ( who live in Cuba ) for 3 days to this hotel because you can not call it Resort . We also took our 8 year old daughter with us . Yes ,the rooms weren't ready when we got there , no big deal . We were given the bracelets which grant you access to all the "inclusive" . So we went straight to have lunch because it was passed noon. The buffet which was the only restaurant we had access to the 2 nights we stayed because the others ( a la carte restaurants ) were exclusively for guests who stayed 3 nights or longer , was a disappointment. Food quality was poor and selection was bad .Dinner was a little better but we encounter the limitation on food like for example they would give you limited amounts of shrimp because it was not enough , excuse me? The following day we spent the day at the pool , the snack bar at the pool is to laugh at, if you were lucky you could have a ham and cheese sandwich , they would run out after noon as well as beer . Other issues:No phones in rooms ( if you needed something you would have to walk to front desk)No 110v outlets only 220 .No hot water .Dirty public bathrooms like the one by the lobby and the pool .Laundry service for pool towels never worked, we had to reuse the towels and hold onto them because they wouldn't receive the dirty ones. Lighthouse snack place , awful service and also also limited food.In summary I would say , bad experience not a 5 or 4 star resort AT ALL!!!!'

Very nice time and weather was awsome!

we arrived at the resort May6,2017 and we had no issue checking in. This place is not bad at all. If you want to be close to the disco or in the middle of the resort stay in bloc 16. We stayed there and Eloisa was very good at keeping our room clean. But if you want closer to lobby and the beach stay at the other end which are in the 8-12 blocs. We did go visit the farther end and it was also nice. The only issue was the mosquitos, like many mentioned, but they did fumigate and that still didn't help. I am sure they will figure it out. The hotel is in need of repair but like any place they try their best to fix it. I have to give a big thanks you to these people as they were nice to deal with and always in a good mood. That would be Mama at the pool by blocs 8-12, Abiel from the entertainement team, Jenny at the snack bar by pool for the bloc 8-12, Alfredo at the lobby bar which was always willing to help and finally Carlos at the bar in the morning serving coffee. I know of many others that were also great to us, but can't remember your names. They had a lot of students this time of year and as long as you were willing to talk to them they were also nice. I would return to this hotel for sure. My wife and I had a great time and enjoyed our stay.

I read a lot of these reviews before we arrived at this resort and was really hoping that it really wasn't going to be that bad, it's advertised as a 4 * hotel. We went with an open mind remembering we were in Cuba and we were going to enjoy the cultural experience. But................I'm sorry to say that unfortunately these poor reviews are not wrong or overly exaggerated. On arrival at 6pm one of our rooms was not ready, it states rooms ready from 4pm . No apology or any idea when the room would be ready. No staff available to help us with our luggage to our room and when I asked I was told there was no one to help and they didn't know when someone would be able to assist. Armed with a map of the resort we went and found our own room and took our own luggage. We requested 3 ocean view rooms, we got 2 and 1 room with a partial ocean view. Patio doors didn't lock properly in the rooms. Buffet restaurant .........lack of laid tables, dirty cutlery, no glasses, cold food, mosquitoes crawling all over the walls. It became apparent that if you were in with the restaurant staff they kept tables reserved for certain favoured guests. Some of the bars were not open when they should have been and if they ran out of something then tough luck, disappointing when you have paid a lot of money to be all inclusive. Staff were rude with the one exception of our cleaner Yaima who was lovely and extremely hard working. I asked reception twice for water for our room and was completely ignored. Unfortunately some of the clientele thought it was ok to let their children pee by the pool, leave dirty discarded plates laying around the paths on the way to the rooms and throw their rubbish on the ground .This behaviour doesn't help an already struggling resort with the minimal staff working themselves into the ground. Evening entertainment was ok and well attended. The beach is beautiful and the resort has a lot of potential with its location and facilities but there is a distinct lack of staff, good manners and management. I wouldn't recommend and we certainly wouldn't return.
