Our Opinion

The Blau Resort is an amazing luxury resort for couples wanting to rest and relax in Varadero. The hotel has a great lay-out. The grounds are well-maintained and cleaned daily. Be advised and careful when it rains however, as there are large puddles that can collect around the grounds. Clean and pleasant lay out of the rooms as well. They had a variety of nightly entertainment that's often different every night. Make sure to check out the aquatic show if you can. This property boasts some of the of the best stretches of beach in the strip. The area has a tendency to get relatively busy, so make sure to get there early!

Beautiful hotel

I stayed in this beautiful hotel with my husband last week. The grounds are in perfect condition, big pool and nice beach. The rooms has a gorgeous view to the water, very clean and room service daily. The stuff is very friendly, I had the pleasure to meet the manager of public relations Fredy, very kind and helpful. We’ll be come back for sure next year.

Tried to make the best of it - couldn't

Of all the places I have traveled to in my life, I have never written a review – good, bad or otherwise. However, based on my recent stay at this hotel, I feel compelled to share my experience so that others do not endure what we did. I will start off by saying that at the time we stayed at this hotel (December 26 – January 2), they were (still are?) going through a transitional period and changing management. I initially used that to justify a lot of the issues that we (a family of 21, celebrating 3 birthdays and New Year’s) encountered on this trip, however, it does not excuse the quality/level of service we received – especially for a ‘5-star’ resort (as advertised on their website). At most, this is a 2-star resort that was at about 20% capacity. I get it, we traveled during a peak time, but imagine paying 5-star rates for the following (echoing the review of another guest in my party, Jerome W):ROOMS:- Cockroaches in the bathroom - Balcony screen door was broken and fell off on first day - Electrical fixtures falling out of wall cavity- Room air vents were dirty - Extremely poor bedroom lighting - Only 1 functional power socket - Mini bar refrigerator not working - Bedroom furniture falling apart - Dirty rusty bathroom fixtures - No ‘Do Not Disturb’ tags for the doors - No bathroom towel mats provided - Mold on the balcony curtains - Bed sheets not changed for the entire week! - No room service offered - No hot water in some of the rooms- No water pressure from the shower head - Pillows were paper thin; had to request 4 more in order to sleep properly BUFFET/FOOD:- Spoiled orange juice being served at breakfast - Snack bar choices were extremely limited- A single a-la-carte restaurant open on any given night for non-buffet dining (website advertises 6 restaurants)- Ran out of orange juice (a plus, see first point) - Buffet ran out of juice on other days - Mold on the sliced bread at breakfast - Snack bar was very limited in terms of choices and food was often cold - No paper plates available at the snack bar to take food poolside so food was served on napkins - Coffee machines in the main buffet were out of order OTHER:- Deflating the bouncy castle with children still playing in it! - Many of the amenities closed (spa, a la carte restaurants, disco) - Not advised at check-in that there was a fee for lost pool towels - 2 days in a row there were no pool/beach towels available - Towel exchange would be closed for hours at a time throughout the day - Front desk ran out of change/smaller bills on a few occasions - Surface of the main pool was like sandpaper, caused some members of our group to get cuts/blisters on their feet - Parts of the bouncy castle (at the bottom of the slides) were coming apart leaving open holes and other sharp edges exposedShame on Air Canada Vacations for even offering this hotel as a option. At the very least, we should’ve been told about the transitional period they were going through so that we could make an informed decision about where to stay for our long-awaited Christmas/New Year’s vacation.

Not a five-star hotel at all

Ok, so, we did not believe earlier feedback from Tripadvisor before we went to the hotel. In other words, we undermined everything that people said of the services etc as we are humble couple. However, after two nights in the hotel, we were already crying to get back to our humble airbnb-apartment back in Havana. In a nutshell: everything was closed, spa was dirty and only one sauna was open, ala-carte was fully booked even though the hotel as well as the restaurant was quite empty of customers, food in buffet was unedible (everything looks so good but tastes bad; much better food sold in local restaurant in Havana for 2CUCs), mosquitos ate everything they got in the evening, hotel room was cold and people seemed to be very sick in the hotel and I am not wondering why. One lady said that they got sick of the food and I personally saw that smoothies etc were made of tap water which is not recommended to drink in Cuba. The only good thing was hot water in showers, nice beach (?), good evening shows, and more or less good service. We were exepctionally provided with ala-carte dinner when I demanded that but the food there was pretty much the same quality as offered in the buffet not to mention the Tiramisu cake which was exactly the same cake as in buffet. All in all, the food is overcooked and burned, and the wine tastes like water. I gave a feedback for the lady in infromation desk which she did not seem to consider and actually denied many of the things I said was missing. She practically undermined all my words and in the end I had to ask her to listen my feedback carefully as a customer. My feedback might seem frustrating but trust me: I am honest and I have worked in hotel so I know what I am talking about. So, do not make a reservation to this hotel. It’s dead place and has zero vibes. In addition, the hotel reminds me of a European gas station rather than a five-star hotel as everything is white with no unique decoration. Completely waste of money.

"making lemonade" - STAY AWAY

We were a party of 21, family vacation, filled with anticipation and excitment. The moment we stepped onto the resort we instantly knew that we'd have to make "lemonade" in efforts to salvage any fraction of the time and expense incurred - at best the resort appeared to be at 20% capacity!Apparently they were "going through a transitional period" was a reason that was eventually offered by one of the employees. Needless to say this is absolutely no excuse for the extreme lack of maintenance and care that we were made to endure! The single highlight of my trip would be the amazing service offered to a group of us by one of the entertainers known as A.B.! Among other things he generously invited us to his home for lunch, to meet his family and enjoy a taste of local home-cooking, by far the best meal I had the entire week - God bless him and his family! Otherwise I urge you all, STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESORT!!! Below is an aggregate of just some of the grievances observed. INSIDE - Cockroaches in the bathroom - Balcony screen door was broken and fell off on first day - Electrical fixtures falling out of wall cavity. - Room air vents were dirty - Extremely poor bedroom lighting - Only 1 functional power socket - Mini bar refrigerator not working - Bedroom furniture falling apart - Dirty rusty bathroom fixtures - No Do Not Disturb tags for the doors - No bathroom towel mats provided - mold on the balcony curtains - Bed sheets not changed for the entire week! - no room service offered - no hot water - no water pressure from the shower head - pillows were paper thin; we had to request 4 more in order to sleep properly OUTSIDE- Spoiled orange juice being served at breakfast - Snack bar choices were extremely limited. - A single a la carte restaurant on any given night for non-buffet dining is Insufficient - Ran out of orange juice (a plus, see first point) - ran out of juice on other days - Deflating the bouncy castle with children still playing on it! - many of the amenities closed (spa, a la carte restaurants, disco) - not advised at check-in that there was a fee for lost pool towels - 2 days in a row there were no pool/beach towels available - towel exchange would be closed for hours at a time throughout the day - mold on the sliced bread at breakfast - snack bar was very limited in terms of choices and food was often cold - no paper plates available at the snack bar to take food poolside so food was served on napkins - coffee machines in the main buffet were out of order - front desk ran out of change/smaller bills on a few occasions - surface of the main pool was like sandpaper, caused some members of our group to get cuts/blisters on their feet - parts of the bouncy castle (at the bottom of the slides) were coming apart leaving open holes and other sharp edges exposed

Worst place ever.

Whould not even recommended this hotel to my worst enemy. Old food. Desert cakes that you could have use to play baseball with. Most of the food tastes old. And dirty plates and glasses to ear of. Blood stains in the beds and even after complaining about that they did not even get changed. And be aware where you walk so you don't cross over invincible line by accident to the exclusive area and gets picked up by the rude staff and being talked smacked behind your back about it.Only plus was hot showers and a pretty beach
