Location: Beachfront, 30 minutes from Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport, 10 minutes to downtown Varadero.
My family spent Christmas at the resort. Overall: The hotel was full at the time. Lobby and grounds are well maintained. Rooms not so much. Staff friendly but overworked. Public washrooms around the resort were dirty and often there was no soap (luckily our room was conveniently located). The Reception: They were busy but I never had to wait long for the service. Arrived at hotel around 13:00 and had to wait for the room until about 16:00. But on the last day was able to have a late check-out (25 cuc). On check-in they forgot to give me some info so had to come back several l times. For example, they never told me you have to pay 15 cuc deposit for towels! (ridiculous, never encountered this rule before). Since I didn't get towel cards, I assumed I just need to give room number at the towel counter as I did in some previous resorts in Cuba. Well I was in for a surprise. Room: Bathroom was clean, towels too and bad sheets were clean too. The bed was comfy but pillows very thin. The room in general was in very bad shape. Definitely needs some TLD. A/C was working but it was bringing in moldy/stale air so we didn't use it. We kept the balcony door open but since there were no screens we had to deal with lot's of mosquitoes.Food/Restaurants: Was actually very good! Much better then in our previous Varadero resorts. Was very pleased with it. A la cart restaurants were very good too. Buffet restaurant was small for the amount of people there. Almost every day people were waiting on plates/cups/utensils. They would often come not properly washed. Especially glasses. We would either come early or late so we didn't have to wait. The staff in restaurants were friendly and they were working very hard but I think they definitely need more staff for things to go smoothly. We were there for Christmas/Christmas Eve dinner and I loved the food bur organisation was bad.Beach: Beautiful and plenty of room and chairs. Never had to fight for chairs witch was great.Pool and ground were also OK and well maintained. And also plenty of room.Entertainment staff during the day: We spent every afternoon at the pool and entertainment and staff were great. My daughter had a birthday while we were there and they made her a small birthday party with a cake at the pool. It was great. Thanks so much! We were up early and in bad early so we missed the night entertainment but I am sure that was good too.Staff friendliness, the food and the beach I give 5 starsThe grounds and lobby 4 starsCleanses (plates, public washrooms): 2 starsOrganisation (lacking staff for things to function smoothly): 2 stars Room cleanses (washroom, towels, bed sheets) 4 starsOverall room (furniture, look, smell, no safety deposit) 2 starsIt was one of the cheaper resorts so I guess we've got what we payed for. We still had a good time.
I have been coming to Cuba since 1996 and am a returning guest at Brisas. There are more modern and luxurious places to stay but none with more heart and soul! The hotel is being continuously renovated and the excellent level of service remains the same - anticipating a guest's needs and taking care of it. The reception staff work at times under enormous pressure but remain calm and charming...the bar and restaurant staff go out of their way to make sure you have what you need with smiles and kindness. But what is vastly improved is the food (especially in the buffet). This last visit we enjoyed (freshly cooked on the grill): calamari, shrimp, fish, chicken, beef, pork with vegetable dishes including pumpkin, aubergine, the local rice and beans, a salad bar, many different types of freshly baked breads. In the morning there was the option of a fruit smoothie, cereals, eggs personally prepared any way and much more. We like to eat healthily and REALLY enjoyed the food. As to some of the frustrations expressed in other reviews, the staff are human beings working sometimes within very limited constraints, so smile and sometimes be a little patient. Many thanks to Gisell, Freddy, Carlos and many more. We had a difficult situation when a transfer to Havana didn't turn up and Gisell and her team really came up trumps - thank you so much to all of you and look forward to seeing you soon!
I was at Brisas del Caribe resort 16 times already and I love the friendly people there. You feel like family and you also feel very welcome.Whenever one has a concern and you ask for info. they are almost always at your disposition and answer all your needs. The Resort it´s self needs a little upgrading and the food is Cuba but I come for the wonderful people as I mentioned. The Beach is spectacular tourquoise blue water. I feel very safe, because the lifeguard staff are great. Just to mention a few Marcello as well as Ely have been at this position since the hotel has opened. The Human Relations Manager Gisele always puts the client first, therefore this shows amazing customer service. Gisele trys her best in answering to peoples needs . I can´t explain this further you have to come to the resort and experiece this on one´s owe. I have a physical Disability and I also received a wonderful massage from Emilia. She also puts pride in her work. What amazes me the most, is that Cuba is a poor country and the employes don´t have high salaries, but you will always see them with a smile on their face. I will always appreciate all the time spent at this resort and I wish all the staff the best of luck in their future endevors.
I want to preface this review with two points: 1) I have travelled to Cuba more than 10 times -- I'm not someone with unrealistic expectations due to inexperience; and (2) if you read my other reviews you'll see that I'm generally a "glass half full" kind of traveller. However, I find it very hard to find anything positive about my stay at this property.First impressions were doomed by totally ineffectual check in process. I was not surprised or offended that my room wasn't ready when I checked in -- that's not an uncommon occurrence. But, please don't repeatedly tell me "it'll be ready in 15 minutes". Be honest with me. If I'd know 15 minutes would really be 75 minutes, I would have changed into my bathing suit, checked my luggage and headed to the beach. To compound matters, there was a very loud band with amplified singers playing music in the cavernous foyer. It was almost impossibly to communicate with the front desk staff without screaming. I felt quite sorry for the staff dealing with such chaos.Once I finally received my room key I was shown to my room. The furnishings were rather spartan (not a deal breaker since I wasn't planning to spend much time in my room) and the safe had no door on it. I asked for a functioning safe or a room switch. Next room was on the ground floor of the main building -- pungent mildew smell, broken box spring, TV with no cable service and another non-functioning safe. I was told there was "a guy in the hotel who was working on fixing safes". Neither the safe or the TV were fixed before I ended my stay at the hotel. The buffet dining experience was no better. The dining room is not large and they were seemingly understaffed as the staff could not keep the buffet stocked with clean plates or bowls and it was a struggle to find tables that were available because the staff couldn't keep up with clearing / bussing dirty dishes.I was very disappointed by the rudeness of the leader of the small band playing on the terrace following dinner. The band was very good but after every two or three numbers he walked around a demanded tips. I don't mind tipping for good service in a restaurant or for good performances, even at an all-inclusive resort, but this guy loudly shamed anyone who didn't give in to his demands for tips or who didn't give him as much as he felt was deserved. Definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth. This might have been a nice hotel once upon a time but now it is very run down and in need of a lot of TLC.To be fair, I didn't stay at this hotel long -- perhaps these very negative first impressions might have softened over time -- but I don't think so.
We stayed here for two weeks. Everybody is so friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean and well maintained every day. People at reception are very professional. We had small adjustments which were done immediately. Food is fresh and tasty with big variety to choose from. Beautiful beach. People who stand out the most with professional and friendly help are: Andrea, Cenina, Melba, Yohani, Yenia and Flores.I would recommend this place for everybody to visit and have good vacation in Varadero, Cuba.
