Hotel Aguas Azules
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Our OpinionA budget resort in Varadero, the Aguas Azules is only for the brave and budget minded. In Cuba we highly recommend spending a bit more and upgrade to a minimum 4 star resort. It is well worth the money as 3 star resorts in Cuba can be very basic with poor service.
Location: Beachfront, 40 km from Varadero International, 10 min to Varadero.
Room: not bad at all clean, spacious, nothing fancy good enough I did not go to only sleep. Clean sheets and bathroom that was enough for us. Hotel: beautiful, yes it needs to properly upgrade it. It looks like the tourists that had been there had been ignorant and had destroyed some part of the hotel. Staff: Well my mother teach me to be respectful and kind and if you are not well that's what you get. I'm respectful and kind and that is exactly what I got. Beautiful people respectful and kind very attend full.Ocean: TO DIE FOR!!! THE BEST!!!Bar: WOW NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT!!Security: All over respectful and helpful. Restaurant/Food: Well the General Manager has experience in this category and you can tell by the tasteful food, first time I go to Cuba and had such a delicious meal all the time!! Overall great I will go there AGAIN FOR SURE!! Jennifer.
We spent a week at this great resort January 9 to 16 2017. This was my 4th visit to Cuba but first time at this resort and I was not expecting much due to the very low cost. My previous 3 trips at other resorts in Cienfuegos and Holguin ... food was often a disappointment !THe food and service here at Starfish was the best by far I've experienced of any resort. (More on food below)Accommodation Our room was in the main building and always nice and cool...perfect temperature for sleeping. Bathroom was spacious and brand new with white shiny tile which made everything feel pristine. Water pressure and temperature (tepid at best) was the only issue but it did the job and the immaculate cleanliness made up for it. The icing on the cake for me was the beautiful palm tree shaded very private balcony. Each night I spent a few minutes breathing in the magic of this resort under the stars and the moon on this quiet balcony feeling so thankful that I was there. Restaurants and foodAs good as the room was....the food was even better!! Best selection of meats, fruit, salads, cheese, desserts, preserves and baked goods every meal and everything was always flavourful and plentiful.. All the wait staff knew our names and I must give special mention to the Head of Food and Beverage -Baltazar. Baltazar was always happy and patient and as busy as I'm sure he was ... he managed to spend time speaking to or greeting each and every guest at some point throughout the day or night. It appeared he was there early in the morning until very late at night.....which is comforting to guests but ......does he ever get time off? We asked wait staff if they served sparkling wine as we were celebrating a special occasion. Although we learned it was not included in the bar...we were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of bubbly along with two champagne flutes had been delivered to our room.....what a special touch we will never forget! The wait staff and management were always courteous and happy to joke with us. We always felt very special when we entered the dining room each night as they remembered us and seemed genuinely happy to see us again! Also special mention to Ricardo and his waiters...Sports Bar was fun and had great atmosphere which all the guests enjoyed....dancing til late some nights. We were blown away when we approached the Seafood restaurant for our a la carte reservation...not only was the white decor exquisite....but the human trio of statues at the door was a thrill! 5 Stars for creativity there!!I have many many friends who vacation in Cuba who love the country and warmth of Cuban people...but have often found the food to be unsatisfactory in some way.I will be sending them all to this amazing resort so they can experience the delicious food and professional staff who manage and serve. Now that we have discovered Starfish...there is no need to stay anywhere else....favourite resort! The warmth and friendliness of the management and staff here make you want to come back.
The interior of the hotel is very dirty with no attention to detail, All the hallway carpets were disgusting and I would not let my dog sleep on them. The urinals were out of order, very seldom was there bathroom tissue or towels to dry your hands. Some toilet seats were missing or broken in the lobby, bar, and restaurant areas, The hygiene was very poor. I observed a restaurant worker use the restroom, pee all over the seat not wash his hands after and return to work. They also use the same utensils to handle and serve cooked food after using it to handle raw chicken and pork. Tennis courts have fences knocked over and are unusable, Buffet serves food that is often cold and unrecognizable. It seems the staff do not put water in the steam table. The hot tub and kids pool was not operational in the quite pool area. Mould was in the room bathrooms and on some furniture. Broken ceramic tiles throughout the resort and rooms. Showers have no pressure and is luke warm at best. Beach however is very nice. A $25.00 surcharge is charged if you want to use the room safe. If you really lower your expectations you will most likely be satisfied for the price. However in this case you get what you pay for. Bring some ketchup, peanut butter. and or Jam and snack food. If you book a Havana tour, be leery of the restaurant the guide suggests, it is very expensive and not worth it, I have a feeling kickbacks are made to the guides. Try one of the roadside restaurants in old Havana instead. I hope this helps

Once again we highly appreciate your good will and professional, vert friendly effort to help. Thanks again, George & Marie Vancouver, Canada
We were warned that this was a lower level resort but we wanted a great experience for our children and grandchildren and the grounds, magnificent beach, beautiful pools and amazing entertainment far exceeded our expectations. The grandkids can't wait to go back again next year.
