Hotel Aguas Azules
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Our OpinionA budget resort in Varadero, the Aguas Azules is only for the brave and budget minded. In Cuba we highly recommend spending a bit more and upgrade to a minimum 4 star resort. It is well worth the money as 3 star resorts in Cuba can be very basic with poor service.
Location: Beachfront, 40 km from Varadero International, 10 min to Varadero.
i booked this hotel last year, and super excited I've just booked again this May for a week. I can't wait to see all the wonderful staff! I really had a nice time at this hotel. i have a garden rom this time, last time i had a bungalow and it was lovely. I can't wait to relax by the pool and the beach.
This was our second time at Starfish Varadero. Like last time our first night was in one of the poorest rooms on the resort but the staff made sure we were upgraded the next day to a room near the quiet pool and it was quite nice. Andrea whom we met last year insisted she upgrade us to a bungalow since we were returning guests and were there for two weeks this time. We told her we were happy where we were and that she really didn't have to do that. But since we were there for two weeks we accepted her generous offering. The bungalow was close to the beach which my husband and I appreciated because we LOVE the beach. It was close to the snack bar and the pool that has so many activities for adults as well as children. It was spacious, clean and well kept every day by Betiel and had a beautiful view from the back deck. The food at this resort is from our point of view very good. At least what we chose to eat. The buffet had lots of variety and if we didn't find any thing there we liked we went to the back for the chefs to cook us our choice of chicken, pork, beef, fish etc fresh on the grill. Every day morning and evening we visited the coffee bar for a delicious Cappuccino and/or Espresso. It'sTHE BEST!!! Served by some of the most friendliest people I've met. Osmani, Nancy, Dunice, Neri, Mariela and so many others. The snack bar for afternoon snacks served delicious sandwiches by Yoadsis, Felipe and others that I am ashamed forgot their names. We had some great laughs with them as we kept asking for their famous fries they had last year - they couldn't serve any this year because the fryer was out of commission. Betsazar a dear man we gladly call our friend was one of the most busy, hard working man there. We kept seeing him in every part of the resort. He kept things rolling smoothly and if needed he cleaned off tables to help when the buffet room was extra busy, like on Cuban Day. It was a rainy day so they had their feast serve inside and was it busy!!! We heard some of the best Cuban music by very talented people. Then to top it all off because we were returning guests we were treated to a supper served poolside with table cloths, candle light and beautiful saxophone music. Both my husband and I felt special and treated like royalty. The resort has lots for every age group to do. If your a beach bum, the beach is out of this world, if you prefer to sit by the pool, there is a quiet pool where you can relax and get all the sun you want - if you like a more active sort of afternoon you can join in the activities at the Trinidad pool, always lots to do and lots of laughs. They are in the process of renovating this resort, we see workers everywhere here and there and there were lots of improvements from last year. I think when they get this place in tip top shape it will probably become a 4.5 star. I know my husband and I will probably go there again. Not only for the resort itself but for the people who looked after our well being so very well.
The hotel is in poor condition inside and outside. Broken tiles that are a saftey hazard and hallway carpet runners that have been there since the 1970's. Our room had not hot water the entire week. There was so much in our room and the bathroom counter and taps had finger prints from past guests. The air conditioner was broken and only had very cold air. We went to front desk and they said just shut it off. Service at front desk is horrible and so was the food. Only good thing was Juan at the buffet, he gave excellent service. Beach was great and best part of our trip was Havana. Never going back.
First time traveling to Cuba with family and had very, very good experience. Staff was nice and pleasant, room was little moldy, hotel overall good. As I eat gluten-free food only, staff was very kind and organized to meet me. I would especially emphasize delicious food and the main chef who made an extra effort to make sure that food was safe. All the compliments, great job. Trip to Havana in a cab with guide was something really special. Lovely people. Overall, lovely place to go for holiday. Considering go again.
Visited Starfish April 2nd to April 10th and stayed in a bungalow that was in the 200 block close to the beach. I heard a few people complaining about the resort and quite frankly they should have stayed at home or pay the extra 1000.00 for a five star resort. Its Cuba and a 3 star resort.Public toilets were not good and need to be addressed by the management. Food was a hit or a miss but you will not go hungry. The resort was being updated daily so its getting better every day. Staff were really kind and caring. The main pool had very obnoxious canadian girls for a couple of days so we went to the quiet pool that was bliss. Snack bar by the pool had really good burgers and cold Cristal beer. Smoking was an issue througout the resort and adults would just light up regardless whether kids or no smoking signs. The beach was gorgeous and pretty warm and it made you leave all your worries at home. If the whiners who went to this resort put as much effort into accepting Cuba for its culture and great hospitality they would have such a good time as life is too short. As I mentioned before there are a few issues that need to be addressed by the management but if you go with a good attitude you will have a great time. I would go back there in a minute and found it great value for money. Make sure and bring insulated mugs to keep drinks cold and also save you going to the bar as often.Put on coconut oil every day and found it helped me keeping pretty much bite free at the beach. Use off at night to take care of the skeets.Give this place a try and soak up the Cuba experience for a good price.
