OverviewLocated on a private beach, 10 minutes from downtown Varadero & 25 minutes from the airport.
Poor service. Terrible restaurant! Food is served in a non hygienic way. You cannot sleep due to the airco in the room which is too noisy. Requests put up at the reception desk are not folluwed up correctly and sometimes even forgotten.
I knew this place had had bad reviews when I booked to stay there but as it was merely a bolt hole after one long drive and before another long one the next day it didn't matter. It was cheap (you get what you pay for!) and the whole hotel was oozing with communist 1950s Soviet charm with nothing quite working properly. The pool actually had water in it but as it was raining when we got there we didn't want a dip. And the rain dripping through the roof of the bar added a certain something! There are some nice restaurants in Matanzas so other than sleeping there and eating the breakfast we didn't spend much time in the hotel.
Small rooms wit 2 twin beds squeezed in. Over large dresser takes up precious space. There was *another* dresser in the closet - no idea why. The lighting was awful! the bedside lamp was broken & was held together with duct tape. The bulb was dim. The TV was missing the remote so you had to change channels manually. The pedestal sink provided little room for toothbrushes, etc. There were little flies all over the place. 2 small towels. NO bath mat! The paths to the dining area & lobby had no lighting. The food was "meh". The only good thing was the water pressure in the shower. That was great.
In fairness, the room was clean and okay. But there were mosquitoes, lots of them and in the morning the walls were spotted with bloody patches of the ones that I was able to annihilate. The rest of the hotel is decaying. . . The dining room ceiling was black with mold and the food, free with the booking, was god-awful hideous. We picked this hotel as it was the only place that would accept one night's accommodation prior to flying home from Varadero Airport.
Came here in Mach 2015, it truly is an amazing resort beautiful and it's sort of jungle-like, directly about the Canimao River. However, it's not maintained as the beautiful resorts in Varadero. This is a great place to stay for a few days if you don't expect to relax in the pool or in your room but explore the city of matanzas, otherwise I'd recommend Varadero.
