Ocean Vista Azul

I've been to this resort 3 times Its the best! Hotel, staff, beach are amazing. I have traveled to Cuba approx 25 times and Ocean Vista Azul is one of the best. Special mentions to Barbaro and La Nena for making my week so much fun. They went over and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Over all the staff were all wonderful. Be back soon
So the holidays in vista azul were amazing, rooms were nice and clean hotel easy to navigate. The only thing in my opinion that needs improving was the food quality and amount of staff working in the restaurants/buffets. last week of our stay we upgraded to privilege, alcohols were nice, we were able to try many different drinks and cocktails, guys at the privilege bar were really nice and friendly, however the privileged restaurant didn't have enough waitresses so we were sometimes waiting an hour before we got served etc.One person who made a huge difference to our stay and deserves special thanks was Norvi Caballero who always welcomed us with smile, gave us amazing tips about Cuba, some history lessons of Cuba and gave us really good advise about visiting nearby attractions. Norvi spoke better English than anyone else we met out of hotel staff which was very useful.generally the stay was a lot of fun, amazing views , everyone nice and friendly. i would definitely go back again :)
It needs improvement. Room was a nice size, very nicely done and kept fairly clean, but we did notice some of the seat cushions were stained..For it being a new hotel, we did see things that were broken that weren't getting repaired, like tiles falling off the outdoor shower by the quiet beach, We didn't go to the main beach as it's a hike from the other side of the resort, we were close to the quiet beach, which was not cleaned the entire week we were there.. The food was okay.. You don't go to Cuba for the food, even thought it states no reservations, Privilege guest can reserve for the ala carts which resulted in an 1 hr plus wait to get in to the Italian one night, got into the other 2 easily. the buffet is small, an the earlier you go the better, less lines for cooking stations, and the buffet food is hotter. We barely saw the animation staff & not once did any of them come over to say hi, it was weird. I did feel like the spanish speaking guests were paid attention to a lot more.I don't think we would go back.
The room was spacious, lovely and the facilities and decorations were quite new. Loved the lobby, the beach, and the service. But the sheets and pillows were stained. Most of all, I didn't like the food much. Among 4 restaurants, we used the buffet most of the time and just the Italian restaurant once(we couldn't try other restaurants due to the long waiting list). When I ordered 'seasonal fruit' for dessert, they served me with canned fruit.
I have been in the toronto hotel business for over 7 years. In hotel management - actually assisting various star levels and brands of major hotels. This property visually holds up to the 4.5 star rating. However I found a few things needed to be refined in order for me to really say this property is at that level. First the property itself: It is a stunning property with all of the amenities expected or required of 4.5 star property. Everything is clean and visually appealing. Please do not forget these properties sustain hurricanes and tropical storms so nothing is perfect. Rooms: beautiful for Cuba - and wonderfully decorated. Beds were hard - and maybe in need of reconsideration. Housekeeping did a great job and never lacked attention to detail. No coffee maker in room - I would assume this is a standard. If you are in block 6 they are having electrical issues after Irma. Therefore our phones didn’t work as well as some outlets - until we asked we were not informed. I would have expected a document or some welcome information from the hotel indicating this. This is an absolutely understandable situation! However let them know! It is fundamental as we therefore did not receive all of the amenities at this property... one which was ROOM SERVICE. This is a basic need to be considered a 4.5 star. If you know things will be removed from the guest be proactive. Tell them upon check in.The blow dryer was non functional as well. We landed at noon - our room was ready early! Impressive! The staff: Extremely friendly all around and informative! They do their absolute best to keep you in good spirits. In terms of service level - this is absolutely there - 4.5 star all the way! It has everything you need. Pools are gorgeous, big beach on one side of the property (which is a bit of a hike if you are situated at block 6) and small is on the other - but both big and small beach are wonderful. It’s Cuba - the beaches are great. Entertainment: Better than most resorts ive been too! Great staff!!(Minus an actual disco - it is a makeshift disco. It has a snack bar on the small beach which turns into a disco in the evening. It works, but in terms of being lively it needs work and much better music in order to draw the crowd I think it can.) consider a professional DJ The food: Here is my sticking point! So I have been to Cayo Coco last and the food was fantastic and a lot of variety on every buffet! A la cartes were excellent as well. So based on reviews I read about this property I thought the same thing. We did not get the privilege club - this is how you gain access to the seafood restaurant on the resort. We didn’t try this, but we did try the Italian. Honestly, it was not good at all. I ordered the pizza and the caprese salad. No where near the standard of a 4.5 star. Actually just tried to eat it because we were hungry! After that experience no more a la cartes for us! Good food on the buffet, but the variety was not there. I felt it was a little repetitive. From lunch to dinner! Especially because I don’t eat much meat if any at all! There needs to be more innovative or themed evenings on the part of the resort. The food needs to be brought up just a notch. Aka, croquettes do not need to be on every single buffet! Lastly - it’s definitely a couples resort and families too. Not many singles I saw there! So if you are in to that scene it may not be the best for you! But it’s Varadero - plenty of places to go out! I would recommend it for an overall visually pleasing, service oriented and good Cuba experience! Havana- private tour booked through concierge $70 cuc pp El mojito restaurant - $60 cuc for lobster dinner and excellent food (2ppl) Booked and recommended through hotel! - little pricey - I normally eat off the resort frequently when I am there. Consider lower priced option as with a cab it’s almost $85 cuc Calle 62 - must go - $10 cuc per way to get there - great authentic Cuban party! Go and experience Cuba and it’s people! They make it worth it!
