Starfish Cuatro Palmas

A good budget option for Varadero packages, however, travellers should keep in mind that anything under 4 stars in Cuba can be quite basic. The beach here is very nice but the food and room options are minimal and value based. If you are just looking for cheap getaway, then this hotel might suffice. If you want a quality vacation in Varadero, go for a minimum 4 stars. A couple of good, well priced recommendations are the Memories Varadero, Riu Varadero and Iberostar Tainos.
The red tile roof, white-walled courtyard and tropical gardens give this hotel a Spanish-Colonial ambiance which provides a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for families and couples alike. The Starfish Cuatro Palmas is centrally located downtown, close to shopping, restaurants and bars. The Las Palmas section of the hotel is located across the street from the Cuatro Palmas section of this property.
Location: Downtown, approximately 30 minutes from the Varadero airport.
First time but not our last! It's an old hotel but very clean and functional, food was great, service everywhere was great, amazing beach, very professional and friendly staff, animation team was great.... Management doing a super job very attentive, thanks to David, Mario, rudolpho and off coarse elimay for a great timeWe highly recommend this hotel, lots to do, location is perfect and no drunk guests anywhere, very safe...We will be back
it is a shame there isnt a rating between poor and average because that is what i would give this hotel. Firstly the main hotel - we arrived late in the evening and were given a room facing the main road - the room itself was very tired and would only be a poor 2 star - we eventually got to sleep at 2am after listening to the music from the bar opposite - it actually sounded like it was in our room ! We changed room the next day and it was quieter - facing the pool but again the same poor quality of room.Staff - all are helpful and friendly but there is never enough on the front desk so queues develop.Bar - again great staff.Food - very good choice of cold ,hot and freshly cooked- which we usually opted for as sometimes there were flies around the cold food.Would recommend the pasta station and the freshly griddled meat and prawns were great.Position - handy to the bus stop for the bus tour and to the Beatles bar.Beach - fabulous soft clean white sand - we choose the area to the right of the hotel as it was less crowded.Free use of the catamaran was fab.Pool - again fab - but not enough sun beds as by 8am - yes 8am they were always all taken !Towels - beach towels were a good size but the bath towels were tiny - like a hand towel and some should have binned - they were soo old and rough.Entertainment- very enthusiastic and very good dancers.Rooms - beds were comfortable, some of the pillows were awful - like bags of hard cotton wool balls - again should have been binned. The fixtures and fittings were tired and some broken and the same with the decor.Noisy aircon. After a stay in Havana we went to the section of the hotel across the room which was like a different hotel - nice decor, quiet with gardens - this part i would recommend.Lastly - what is it with the toilets and cleaners standing with toilet roll outside( there was rarely any in the cubicles - and no holders) expecting a tip ??
We were relocated to this hotel after paying £8500 for four people on a seven day family holiday with Captivating Cuba. Flights were economy with Virgin which were good however the orginal accomdation in Havana was so poor for what we paid that after a big fight with Captivating Cuba we were relocated here. My travel agent - Travelwise - were so appailed by the service and accommodation provided by Captivating Cuba that they agreed to refund the extra £500 squeezed out of us to relocate to Quatro Palmas. This is what they call an "inclusivo" hotel so you have to wear wrist bands everywhere and can eat and drink as much as you like. If you want non inclusive you are not allowed to use the beach so you are really forced into the "inclusivo" which unsurprisingly attracts a fairly heavy dringking, smoking crowd. Staff are pleasant however the facility is run down. My daughter suffered a fractured hand when the weights in the gym collapsed becuse the machinery is so old and badly maintained. To be honest the holiday was an expensive, frustrating and disappointing nightmare but I am most furiious about how badly we were ripped off by Captivating Cuba. Despite all our troubles and calls to their office they never once returned a call, I would avoid this tour operator at all costs.
A few friends had been to this resort and recommended it for a reunion of "The Possee". I was impressed by how they were able to accommodate a group of up to 11 for meals. I have to say that having been to Varadero 8 times prior, that this resort had the best food to date. Best steak ever. Canadians miss the beef. lol I can say enough about all the staff . Everyone was wonderful. My ONLY complaint was the lack of toilet paper and hand towels in the bathrooms. We are planning on going back to the same resort again next year as everyone had a great time.
Wow!!! What a great and wonderful place. It's clean and beautiful. The staff is absolutely amazing!! Juliette in the lunch room is absolutely amazing, not to mention Abel, Kendrie and Raul at the lobby bar. Abel at the pool bar is absolutely fantastic. I miss them all. I will definitely be returning next year.
