A good budget option for Varadero packages, however, travellers should keep in mind that anything under 4 stars in Cuba can be quite basic. The beach here is very nice but the food and room options are minimal and value based. If you are just looking for cheap getaway, then this hotel might suffice. If you want a quality vacation in Varadero, go for a minimum 4 stars. A couple of good, well priced recommendations are the Memories Varadero, Riu Varadero and Iberostar Tainos.
The red tile roof, white-walled courtyard and tropical gardens give this hotel a Spanish-Colonial ambiance which provides a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for families and couples alike. The Starfish Cuatro Palmas is centrally located downtown, close to shopping, restaurants and bars. The Las Palmas section of the hotel is located across the street from the Cuatro Palmas section of this property.
Location: Downtown, approximately 30 minutes from the Varadero airport.
We stayed in this hotel from Mar 4-12. We were booked in for an ocean view room but did not have this the first night. I was not happy that we were not told this but found out when we arrived at the room. We were able to change rooms the next day. We met in the morning with our Sunwing advisor, Rafael and proceeded to wait 20 mins for our orientation as he sold excursions to people in our group. I was annoyed by this as we had arrived at 4:30 am and got up for the meeting only to wait. He also gave me the wrong pickup time to be taken to the airport. Thank goodness it was earlier as opposed to later or we could have had issues. The other thing that annoyed me was that the Starfish website said that we would have a stocked mini fridge and this was not the case. I met with Elimay, who is their PR rep, and although she was friendly the excuses she gave me did not make sense. Then I was told that we would receive a complimentary bottle of water in our room every day to compensate for the misinformation but this was an ongoing battle where I had to call every day as we didn't receive it. The next thing was there was no toilet seat in our room or in the bathrooms beside the gift shop. I thought this was the way it was in Cuba but lo and behold we got one in our room on Friday, a day before we left. Also, many times there was no toilet paper in the public bathrooms. The food was very good although repetitive. I just want to say that this resort has definite positives about it. The staff is AMAZING!!!! From Ronald, Kendry, Kari (reservations), Victor, Abel, and many others whose name I don't know. The only staff who I didn't find particularly friendly were the men who work the front doors and hardly ever smile. The location and the size of the resort are perfect. You can sit and watch all the vehicles out front and walk down the main strip and be safe. There is shopping across the street and we got some awesome souvenirs there at unbelievable prices. I just wanted to let you know that the wifi is horrible in the lobby and I could not connect for a full day with their internet card. $1.50 an hour is very reasonable but not if you can't use it. I do think this hotel has huge potential to be 5 stars and the staff do try but there seems to be miscommunications with the staff, which could be partly due to the language barrier.
Just returned from a week vacation at the Cuatro Palmas. Arrived very early on Sunday morning so check in was fast and efficient. Stayed in the eco rooms across the street and since so early no bell boys so took a little while to find room by ourselves on a not very well lite street. Room was basic but freshly painted with new beds, which were very comfortable. Our only room complaint was the towels which were hand towel sized. Towels were rarely laundered if not at all which really wasn't the issue as we did hang up to be reused but when I placed a wet or dirty one on shower floor they would just fold up and put back out, not to impressive. The beach and pool was wonderful other than the towel game that started really early in day and chairs would stay vacant for hours, huge pet peeve of mine!!!!Restaurant provided excellent flavoured food. Grill always provided a variety of different meats they would cook right there hot and fresh. Nice salad, fruit ,meat and cheese, bread stations. Always nice desserts and ice cream.Bars provided flavourful drinks, we preferred the Havana bar as it was non smoking and Abel mixed a great mojito. As a non smoker the smoking in main lobby bar and around pool and beach got really old and disgusting fast. Lots of Quebec and Italian guests so LOTS of smoking. None of which seemed to care about us non smokers. All and all a great resort that I would return to.
Every year we go to Cuba for a long awaited two week vacation. We enjoy Varadero and Quatro Palmas was our hotel of choice. Let me explain why, location, great beach, food and most importantly fantastic staff. Last year we couldn't get a room due to renovations across the street, this year we paid $500 extra to get the last room in the main part of the hotel. We arrived to our room expecting an okay room, however we're very disappointed. Large volume of bugs flying about, three lamps no shades, just light bulbs, very tired and unkept room. We requested a change in room and were told to come back either tomorrow or the next day and perhaps they could change our room. Mentioned to housekeeping that we have many bugs in our room and we're told all rooms had bugs and she promised to spray our room in the morning. Needless to say we stayed in this room for our entire vacation as we came for vacation not a disagreement and stress about relocating to another room. We love the staff at Cuatro Palmas, Mario, Jose, Lori, Javier, all restaurant staff treat us like family, hugs and kisses, best service, just an amazing group of people. We visited the newly renovated rooms across the street and were impressed however felt cheated staying in our disgusting room that we paid extra for. The bug issue in our room became out of control, housekeeping sprayed and stuffed toilet paper in the vents to trying to stop the bugs from entering our room. We tried to remain positive however this became a challenge by the end of our stay. We met the new manager a few years ago who was excited and shared plans to upgrade the hotel, we hope these plans are in place for the main hotel. Kids pool was empty as the pump broke and no replacement was found leaving smaller children with no small pool to play in. Management needs to take a good look at the opportunities to improve and implement as quickly as possible. We are average Canadians who very much look forward to an annual vacation however if not for your great staff and location we would not say our stay was okay. Please take a good look around and ask yourself would you pay $4500 to stay at your hotel for two weeks? Sorry for such a long review however I am deeply disappointed in the condition of our over priced accommodations and the impact it had on our stay. Your hotel had a great 25 th anniversary celebration during our stay and pride was displayed on every face, please take a good look at what you have to offer tourist and improve where needed.Thank you to you and your team, however unless accommodations improve I can't honestly return, very sad to say.
Stayed Feb28-Mar7 Wedding with Family and Friends.. This resort was chosen for its prime location to beach and town, and its smaller size which gives more ambiance and personalized service. The attention and effort given to the special occasion was exceptional, and greatly appreciated. This resort has a manager who is 'hands on', and can be seen involved in all aspects of this resort... truly outstanding and dedicated. The food was very good, lots of variety, and cleanly kept.. the beach was within steps of the rooms, lots of loungers and umbrellas available, kept clean and neat.. without any outside vendors harassment.. Rooms were cleaned, bed was fine, ocean-view rooms were quiet at night. The location is definitely the best feature of this resort, steps in either direction would lead you to the astounding beach, or out the front door to the bustling and lively town of Varadero. One week wasn't near long enough to enjoy all the available sights and experiences. The water-lovers were treated with an expanse of pure white sand.. reaching far out into the cystal clear water.. snorkelling off the beach was a delight, with visibility to approx. 30' down.. Will be returning, hope to see Starfish continue renovations and the install of a hottub would be wonderful !! thank you David and Staff, tuve una estancia muy agradable, gracias
We went to this resort Feb 26- Mar 3 , short visit but well worth it . It's our second time in Cuba and this hotel was excellent , definitely worth considering while staying in Varadero. The food and selection was very good , staff were friendly and the rooms are comfortable. If you're looking for a sunny vacation spot and feeling safe while there , then this is your place .
