Our Opinion

A good budget option for Varadero packages, however, travellers should keep in mind that anything under 4 stars in Cuba can be quite basic. The beach here is very nice but the food and room options are minimal and value based. If you are just looking for cheap getaway, then this hotel might suffice. If you want a quality vacation in Varadero, go for a minimum 4 stars. A couple of good, well priced recommendations are the Memories Varadero, Riu Varadero and Iberostar Tainos.

Overview

The red tile roof, white-walled courtyard and tropical gardens give this hotel a Spanish-Colonial ambiance which provides a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for families and couples alike. The Starfish Cuatro Palmas is centrally located downtown, close to shopping, restaurants and bars. The Las Palmas section of the hotel is located across the street from the Cuatro Palmas section of this property.

Location: Downtown, approximately 30 minutes from the Varadero airport.

Brilliant hotel

This is one of the smaller hotels but doesn't lack any of the facilities. Our room was clean comfortable and air-conditioned. The bars served great cocktails and the food was amazing. Fresh cooked sea food and meats cooked to order. The pools was nice and relaxing. The beach was out of this world. There are free non motorised water sports to. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a hotel in Varadero. Great staff that are friendly and not pushy. If i go back to cuba i will be checking in to this hotel

Lovely friendly hotel

Loved out time in this small friendly hotel. The position of the hotel was good with shops, bars and restaurants across the road or nearby. The beach is one of the best I've been on. The animation team are brilliant but don't pressure you into anything so you have as much or as little activity as you like. The salsa lessons were great and you had chance to try out your dance steps at the lobby bar later when they have some brilliant bands and the dancers will get you involved. The Friday Cuban party is brilliant too with a street party feel. The food was really nice with some great seafood and meats grilled while you wait. The staff are very friendly and always ready to help and everywhere was kept very clean and tidy. Would love to go back.

A beautiful place for a perfect vacation

An amazing resort, all-inclusive paradise in beautifully beach. The hotel is located in a convenient location, close to Varadero, markets, bars, restaurants. Josone Park is just a 10-minute walk away. Mambo Club and El Patriarca are just a few steps from the hotel. At the entrance itself is a lovely large patio courtyard, tropical gardens with pool. Incontinuation is a beautiful white sand beach as far as the eye can see.Rooms are spacious, beautiful and neat.It has three delicious restaurants, where the food is extremely tasty. It also has three bars. It's a nice offer with indisputable dance lessons (Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha and Tango). The right place to relax and enjoy. The staff is above average kind and professional.

Our Amazing Wedding at Starfish Cuatro Palmas

Hola amigos! My husband (!) and I stayed at the Starfish Cuatro Palmas for our wedding in early May 2017. We chose this resort because we got engaged there in April 2016 and we loved it so much. We've stayed in Cayo Coco and Holguin as well, and this hotel has been our favourite. The location is perfect, the beach is incredibly beautiful, the food is the best we've had in Cuba (on a resort), we love its small size, and we love the staff. I don't think you could find a better hotel in Varadero at even close to the same price point. For our wedding we brought 30 of our friends (four additional friends were staying on another resort and coming for the wedding only) and for a resort that doesn't do weddings very often (people usually go up the peninsula to the bigger and fancier resorts) they did a really great job. The food for our wedding dinner was ACTUALLY good, not just Cuba good. The soup and the appetizers especially stood out to me. I loved every moment of our wedding in general and wouldn't change a thing. We would absolutely go back to this resort again. We had an oceanview room and the view was amazing! I loved waking up to the ocean every day. Last year we were in the Colonial section with a street view, which I also did really enjoy -- I loved the people watching and seeing the old cars drive by, and it wasn't loud where we were.We knew going into our trip that the resort didn't do weddings often and I was a bit apprehensive about having a big group there, but we really had our heart set on getting married there. Although things did go well there is always room for improvement and I'd like to leave some constructive criticism. First of all, as one of our guests mentioned below, I was upset about our moms' room. We specifically requested a ground floor room for them as my mom has knee problems and can't do stairs. When we arrived their room was on the second floor and when I asked to have it changed they said it wasn't possible and that they were completely booked. Well, several of our other guests actually had rooms on the first floor so I feel like that is something could have EASILY been rectified immediately by the hotel. We got one of our guests to switch with them, so thankfully that was fine. And as the reviewer mentioned below they had some door problems, it did open, it just had to be pushed a certain way. It was an annoyance for sure but my husband and friends were able to fix it (with veggie oil as mentioned below by William). I wouldn't say the customer service was non-existent though, several of our other guests experienced minor issues in their rooms (safe not working, TV remote out of batteries, no beach towels, no bottled water on the first day, etc.) and when they contacted the front desk it was fixed very quickly. One of our friends' bathroom sink fell off the wall in their room and that, although not the best situation, was cleaned up quickly.I actually found that except for a select few, the staff went above and beyond for us. I have to give a shout out to Randy, as well as the entertainment woman whose name I can't remember at the moment but she's usually with Randy, Mikey (sexy position! we're never getting out of the pool!), Abel and Andy...our faves!!! I felt like they were our friends by the end of our trip. It was also nice to see the manager, David, around -- first time I have seen that at any resort. He was on vacation when we were there last year. A big thank you to Elimay also, the PR coordinator, for making our wedding day so special. The ceremony setup was beautiful and they added a lot of decor that I did not realize was going to be there. It was a nice surprise. And everything went smoothly!I have to mention that the resort seems to be weird about certain rules. As our guest mentioned below, bringing a tray of food up to the bridal party while we were getting ready was for some reason a big issue. I guess we could have asked the resort for this but our friend wanted to make us sandwiches (they were delicious!). It ended up being okay but they did have to give the staff 5CUC to borrow a tray for 10 minutes. Also, we hired a Varadero photography company (AV Smile - so amazing, best money we've ever spent!) and the management had problems with the photography team being around the resort and being in our rooms taking photos of us getting ready, even though the team paid for a day pass. That was frustrating. When they arrived I had to write something and sign it saying I took full responsibility for them being on the resort photographing us, and that included having them in our rooms. But even after that they still weren't letting them in our rooms to take pictures of us getting ready so eventually one of my bridesmaids and I went down in our getting-ready-kimonos and explained to them why the photographers needed to be in our rooms, how much money we were paying for them to capture our day, including us getting ready, etc. After about 10 minutes of explaining, they finally let them come with us. I guess because the resort doesn't really have weddings there and probably don't have external photographers come in they didn't understand that this was a normal wedding thing. It was a bit of a hassle but I got a pina colada while I was down there sorting it out so I guess it wasn't a total waste of time.I should mention that they're not really set up to host groups so aside from our wedding dinner we couldn't have a group of more than 8 people in an a la carte for dinner. It's okay though because we all went next door to Barbacoa one night for dinner. The food was excellent there and I highly recommend checking it out.Something that was really thoughtful of the front desk team was they sent a bottle of wine to our room, decorated it beautifully on our wedding night, and sent us breakfast in bed the next morning. We really appreciated it! Unfortunately we didn't know breakfast was coming and we were on a catamaran trip for the day, so we missed that. Overall it was an amazing trip with all of our best pals and we'll never forget it. So thank you Starfish for having us all. I honestly can't imagine staying anywhere else in Varadero. We'll be seeing you again on an anniversary trip in the future!
