Starfish Cuatro Palmas

A good budget option for Varadero packages, however, travellers should keep in mind that anything under 4 stars in Cuba can be quite basic. The beach here is very nice but the food and room options are minimal and value based. If you are just looking for cheap getaway, then this hotel might suffice. If you want a quality vacation in Varadero, go for a minimum 4 stars. A couple of good, well priced recommendations are the Memories Varadero, Riu Varadero and Iberostar Tainos.
The red tile roof, white-walled courtyard and tropical gardens give this hotel a Spanish-Colonial ambiance which provides a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for families and couples alike. The Starfish Cuatro Palmas is centrally located downtown, close to shopping, restaurants and bars. The Las Palmas section of the hotel is located across the street from the Cuatro Palmas section of this property.
Location: Downtown, approximately 30 minutes from the Varadero airport.
This was our second time here - you won't find a better place for the $. Most staff are amazing and the food is very good - and I'm picky! Nightlife is awesome and the beach/pool areas are very easy/quick to navigate.
My cottage - commonly known as 'Cuatro Palmas" is in good shape again. Last time I was here on the day when Hurricane Irma (cat 5) has arrived...It was a pleasure to return to the Hotel and to see that practically they still need to work on the Sauna, Gym, etc. but generally everything is OK. While not everything is perfect - just like at home - the amazing staff makes every hour enjoyable. The unique and very personalized leadership of David and refreshing smile of Elimay makes it real: I feel at home. So many people work there with a big heart: Carlos, the animation team, Hanny and others at the reception; the chef and waiters at the buffet restaurant; bar tenders and security. I brought a friend with me and after two days he made the remark: Martin, they really respect you here... Well, it is mutual. Comparing with other places, this is the resort I will come back again. Gracias.
First time to Cuatro Palma, but multi time Cuba traveller. We were a little hesitant at first to stay at a resort in downtown Varadero, but we are sure glad we did! This resort is conveniently located by Calle 62 restaurant and Beatles Bar. It’s also close to Josone Park. It was a great experience. The customer service manager Elimay was simply amazing. She is a great asset to the resort for sure. The food was very good. We were impressed by both a la Carte restaurants. The international restaurant is outside by the beach. The Cuban restaurant is indoors. Both restaurants were very good! The buffet area was roomy and hardly never any lineups for the egg station, pasta station, or meat station. The staff were very friendly in the buffet and restaurants. It was nice to see that the lobby area is smoke free! All smoking is to be done outside. That was a pleasant surprise. The beach was amazing. The beach area is deep and wide. Lots of room for finding spots. They were installing new palapas the week I was there. We had a room overlooking Josone Park. Amazing view of the lake. Our room was comfortable. AC worked very well. The hotel area is very clean and staff are very helpful. The location is ideal for those who want to visit shops, restaurants or just tour Varadero. We will definitely be coming back again.
This was our 2nd visit to the resort...10th time to Cuba...the resort was just fine after the hurricane...they did loose a bunch of palapas but there was still plenty to go around and they are in the process of installing new ones. Last year I had an oceanfront front room but this year I waited too long and ended up with a room in the Colonial section...the first room was terrible...the musty smell and mold stains on the wall and lamp shades were pretty bad...plus there was a strong sewer smell. My sister had a room next to mine and had the same issues. Went to see about getting a different room and was told there was nothing...did not settle for that and eventually there were 3 rooms that they would show us to see if they were better...still in the Colonial Section. The rooms were a bit better...at least no musty smell...still not great but acceptable. Irene in customer relations was wonderful...she went above and beyond to help us with the room change. Wasn't worried when originally booked the Colonial section as so many comments said they were newly renovated...2 years ago they were renovated and with the dampness and heat 2 years allot can happen to a room. I don't go to Cuba to expect perfection...not at all...I do however like to be able to breath in my room. The meals were fine...we never went hungry...the International restaurant was great...had pizza there...the Cuban restaurant was great also. The staff are always so nice...Mercedes and Fernando in the buffet and our little cutie Ronald...such a sweet young man.David...you were so informative...loved hearing about the history...promise...next year there won't be so many questions. :)Pretty sure my sisters and I will be back...hoping next year the price will go down a bit...we do like the small size of this resort...it does have it's issues but what doesn't...till next November :)
A big shout out to the staff at Cuatro Palmas, they are above and beyond the call of duty. We just returned from our third stay at Cuatro Palmas and it could not have been better. We have been to Varadero nine times and tried more expensive resorts, no need, this is the little gem on the beach. Do not be fooled by the bigger resorts, this one has everything you need. Beach out the door of your room, pool wonderful and the restaurant is good. This is Cuba if you are expecting Canadian food don't go. At each resort we have been to the food is relatively the same, you will not starve, everyone can find something to eat. The rooms are not extravagant but extremely well kept. If you are going to Cuba to stay in the room, you might want to find another hotel!! The night time entertainment, dazzling, they do a very professional show each night and every night is different. The staff, it is all about the staff. The buffet, beyond kind and welcoming, I cried the last morning we were there, felt so well taken care of. Don't forget to tip, this is not Canada and they do not make good money, we saw so many people not tipping, you would never not tip in Canada. Also this place is on the main street of Varadero, great for shopping at the craft markets or just strolling, not ten miles from everything. So all Said we would recommend this hotel over all others we have been at and if we return we will be going back there.
