Overview5 star beachfront villa resort on the island's south coast between Willemstad and Sea Aquarium beach. Winner of Traveler's Choice 2012 - Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the Caribbean by Tripadvisor.
We came to Baoase for the day whilst in Curacao. It really is the most beautiful resort. The beach area is just stunning, the staff are wonderful and the food was amazing. I don't think I have ever seen shirmp as big in my life! We took our 4 year old son. He was the only child there but he was more than happy with the lovely beach and the staff made a real fuss over him. Within 5 mins of being there I was already plotting my return...I can't wait to go back.
This is a carefully designed resort with a luxury island aesthetic. Beach:Most resorts have one or two secluded, desirable spots on the beach; Baoase is designed with 20+ such locations. The beach sand was soft and the water was warm. You can comfortably float in the waves all day without fear of drifting off. The resort provides mesh floats which are perfect for the occasion. Children could play and swim very safely in the man-made cove. My sole complaint is that smoking is permitted. We had to move chairs twice during our stay because groups of smokers sat down immediately upwind of us, and left us choking on secondhand smoke in what should have been a pristine, natural environment. Gross, inconsiderate, and not what I expect from a luxury resort. Dining:Every meal was memorable and delicious. Breakfast is free, and consists of a lovely buffet of granola choices, yogurt, fresh fruit, and pastries. You can also order additional items from an a la carte menu. I ordered scrambled eggs with fresh tomatoes twice. The first batch was delicious but the second day the eggs were so overly salty that I couldn't eat them. My husband loved his breakfast burritos. We generally ate late breakfast and then snacked on the fresh fruit in our room rather than eat a formal lunch. Our dinners on the beach were superb. Beautiful presentation, complicated flavors, and reasonably large portions. The Chef's choice tasting menu was on par with our Michelin-starred restaurants in Chicago. As with the beach, my major complaint is that guests are permitted to smoke in the restaurant. It completely ruins the experience of other guests.Rooms:We were upgraded to the Banyan Loft. It includes a huge open patio/lounge area under the resort's prized Banyan tree, a little kitchen (microwave, sink, fridge, plates, and cutlery), a ground-floor (very comfortable) king-sized bed, and loft with a second bed. Loads of well-designed space for two people to relax. The room exceeded my expectations. The housekeeping staff were friendly and thorough.Hospitality:The best way to describe the staff here is aggressively courteous. Everyone remembers your name and goes out of their way to greet you with a smile, way more so than at any other luxury boutique properties I have visited in the Caribbean. This apparently comes at a price though. I witnessed management scolding employees on several separate occasions about seemingly minor issues (putting out the wrong color dish for lunch; failing to immediately greet guests who were still in the process of selecting loungers by the pool). I was left with the impression that management needed to lighten up and be nicer to their employees. Perhaps the rub was between uptight management from Europe and more easy-going island natives. Regardless, if guests can perceive employees' frustration with nit-picking management, that's not a good thing. All told, this resort exceeded my expectations and made for an enjoyable, relaxing long weekend getaway. It is perfect for discerning travelers who dislike mega-resorts and prefer an intimate experience. I do recommend that management pay more attention to guest preferences and spend less time nagging staffers. Baoase employees took the time to learn our names, but failed to take note of our repeated requests to move away from smokers. The resort was almost empty during our stay, so it would have been easy to seat us and smokers with more distance between us at meals. That never happened. If you expect both American and European guests, you need to figure out a way to harmonize cultural preferences/expectations. Otherwise, keep up the great work!
Baoase is a very special place, we have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and I can say with enthusiasm this is truly one of the finest places in the region. The physical plant is very nice (make sure you ask for an ocean front villa with the private beach). The food is definitely among the best any where in the Caribbean and the service made us feel like we were in south east Asia. From the beach staff to the restaurant to the front office the staff could not have been more helpful and charming.Jessie and and Oliver who run the hotel are young attractive couple who could not be warmer, friendlier or more helpful , their suggestions about where to eat and activities on the island added greatly to our enjoyment of the trip.Definitely the best i Curacao, probably the region.
What a stunning resort in the middle of a residential area, you wouldn't believe what a beautiful place lay behind the large wooden doors. We arranged a day pass while visiting Curacao on our Xmas cruise and wasn't disappointed. When we arrived we were greeted and given a choice of cabana and comfy loungers and chose one on the beach a few feet from the sea. The resort is stunning and service attentive but not intrusive. We were provided water all day a fruit drink in the morning and snack in the afternoon. We booked lunch in the restaurant which was nice although expensive but I was expecting this - but hey - if you can't treat yourself on holiday 😀Thank you for a great day, we will be back this year hopefully and if we ever choose a land based holiday Baoase is on our short list ❤Ps completely forgot the no photos rule so couldn't resist posting one of your amazing cocktail ❤
After spending 4 glorious nights at the Baoase in the Colonial Room in March of 2015, my spouse and I agreed we needed to return in 2016 (and every year after) and did so last week. Just like our first experience at the Baoase, everything about the experience was personalized, perfected and seamless. We decided to spring for one of the Baoase's Beachfront Pool Suites, and I was floored by the chambers - from the outdoor private pool and jacuzzi to the spacious indoor closets, giant outdoor tub and shower and the television that ascends from within a cabinet at the foot of the bed, these suites are truly the definition of Caribbean luxury, replete with all the decorative and functional details you'd expect from a 5-star resort. Prior to our stay, we dreamed about the Baoase's "shrimp platter" (one of their many fabulous beach bites) and sure enough, the platter is still on the menu and is still THE BEST PLATE OF SHRIMP I HAVE EVER EATEN. We were fortunate to have 3 dinners at the resort restaurant, each time eating something unique and different. Highlights include the tableside steak tartare, the "stone" trio (you can ask for a meal of proteins served on a hot stone that you cook at your table - very Portuguese), and also the tuna tartare. As per usual, the breakfast spread is beyond belief, from freshly-baked croissants, rolls and other delicious carbs to the array of savory spreads (filet american, chicken curry salad, egg salad, tuna salad) to the vast selection of cereals, yogurts, eggs and freshly-squeezed juices (with champagne). I truly believe the owners of the Baoase have thought about EVERYTHING in terms of customer experience, and it shows in the exceptionally high quality of everything they do. The staff is so thoughtful, kind, and accommodating - a veritable case study in how luxury resorts should function. If TripAdvisor had an option to give 6 stars, I would immediately give it to the Baoase - exclusively. It's heaven on earth, and we cannot wait to return in 2017.
