Overview5 star beachfront villa resort on the island's south coast between Willemstad and Sea Aquarium beach. Winner of Traveler's Choice 2012 - Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the Caribbean by Tripadvisor.
We had a wedding dinner party booked for 8. Service was extremely poor- we waited an hour for the first round of drinks, the second round 45 mins. Our dinner arrived at 945 (we ordered at 745). Staff didn’t check on us regularly. We expected so much more. Food was good except for Ceviche- it was tough and very fishy tasting. Total bill was over 1,000$ US- so for that expenditureI expected 5 star service- we instead got up and often refilled our own water glasses with the bottled water station near our table. Very disappointing.
My husband and I stayed at Baoase for one week 29th July to 5th August. We took along our two daughters aged 21 and 14 and we stayed in Villa 6 a two bed with private plunge pool. Firstly we chose Curaçao because the weather tends to be better than a number of alternatives in the Caribbean in the summer months. And as one of the Dutch Antilles Islands Curaçao is reputedly below the hurricane belt. We had fabulous weather during our stay. There was a 30 minute line at airport passport control as we arrived from NYC at the same time as as flight from Amsterdam, however it seems that there is an online form you could complete prior to your trip which would enable you to fast track and avoid this arrival queue. The hotel arranged our airport transfer and we were efficiently met by Angelo in a very helpful polite and welcoming manner. It's a short 25 minute drive from the airport to the resort. On arrival wonderful Kamla welcomed us to Baoase and handed us delicious arrival cocktails. She then took us on a brief tour of Baoase whilst our luggage was delivered to our villa. Baoase is immediately relaxing. It is a private tranquil oasis behind huge wooden gates. The beach is very spacious, especially for the size of the hotel. The beach loungers are super comfortable, there are lots of options for privacy and shade. The loungers are set out with masses of space between each gazebo so you can avoid making new friends very easily if you want. The manmade lagoon is so perfect that we didn't once bother with taking a dip in the hotel pool and I'm not usually a fan of swimming in the sea. There is a beach hut with a few kayaks, snorkels and floats to borrow. The hotel guests borrow them and tend to return them to the beach hut once they're finished with them. A minor annoyance is that the occasional cruise ship visitors, who come in on day passes don't seem to be quite as good at sharing! I think perhaps that's one thing the the beach hut staff could fix. The hotel food is truly excellent but staff were also very helpful suggesting restaurants in Willemstad and we ate out a couple of evenings. Service in the hotel restaurant can be a little patchy but generally everyone is polite and very helpful.Downtown Willemstad is very very pretty, lovely colourful dutch style buildings along the waterfront and the fabulous floating bridge which opens to let vast ships pass by and when we went we had the bonus of a fireworks display. The accommodation in our villa was lovely. Clean and contemporary. The girls had the downstairs 'master' bedroom which opened onto the pool deck and had an outdoor shower and bath. Their en-suite loo and basin were indoors. We opted for the slightly smaller upstairs bedroom which had a huge and very lovely indoor bathroom. There was a full kitchen downstairs and to be honest I though this was a bit of a waste of villa space. I doubt anyone would go to this resort and want to cook. We felt it would have been more sensible to have a sofa area or even a sofa bed in that's space and a more streamlined kitchenette/bar coffee making facilities. That way you could possibly take an extra person and have the same villa sleep 5/6 people. This is probably only because we are a family of 5 and sometimes struggle finding accommodation that works with having three big kids currently aged 21, 18 and 14. I guess when we go back to Baoase, and we definitely will, we will just have to book a 3 bed villa instead! Thank you all at Baoase for a fabulous summer beach holiday. and had a truly relaxing getaway.
We recently stayed at the Baoase Resort and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. First I'd like to say that I have vacationed all over the world and have stayed at mostly 5 star resorts. This is not a 5 star resort. It may be a 5 star hotel by Curaco standards but not by overall standards. And while it is a beautiful facility it does not warrant the rates they are requesting. They are way overpriced. Now my reasoning: First a true 5 star resort would never allow cruise passengers access to their facility. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 story villa. The villa was very nice with nice amenities but the first thing pointed out by our concierge was the powder room on the first floor was not functioning and had not been functioning for some time. They told us they hadn't had time to fix it. When shown our bathroom it had a beautiful jacuzzi type shower which was not functional since it wasn't hooked up correctly when installed. There was an 12 inch space to walk between the sink and the shower to get to the toilet. Hard to navigate in the middle of the night. Also the shower door was off its track and there was mold at its base. The bedroom itself was adequate but not much larger than the king bed inside. The bed and bedding was very comfortable and the air conditioners worked great. One morning we were awoken by barking dogs from the local street and another morning we woke up to loud children in the villa next to ours but for the most part we were able to get a good night sleep. Outside our villa with direct access was a beautiful public pool with a secluded jacuzzi which unfortunately did not work till our last day. When we tried the jacuzzi it blew bubbles but no warm water so it is unclear what the purpose was. The pool itself was a delight since our villa had a deck with chairs and couches which you could relax in and when it was too hot just walk a few steps for a dip in the pool. The man made lagoon also was delightful with comfortable gazebos situated around it. During the week days they had 2 "butlers" coming around getting drink orders but over the weekend we only saw one butler and in the 4 hours we played around the lagoon we saw him once and then he never came back. The breakfasts were great and plentiful and the dinners that we had were delicious, especially the Asian night. The service at times was painfully slow but their amply stocked bar made the time pass. I should mention that for a 5 star resort their wine selection was woefully inadequate. All in all not a 5 star experience, more like a 4 star hotel. What made me give the hotel 3 stars was first the fact that my wife got a shard of glass in her foot from a broken glass. This happened at one of the lagoon side gazebos where, when we arrived, we noticed that there was a broken glass that had not been cleared away. Once swept up we proceeded to use the gazebo but unfortunately a small piece of glass was missed. I understand that accidents happen but the hotels assistance was minimal as was their concern. The second reason was that due to Hurricane Irma our return flight was canceled and we needed to spend an extra day. When asked for assistance in this regard, we were told that they had rooms available since many inbound flights were canceled and that they would give us a special price. We said we would be happy to change to any room in the resort. The price they gave us was the same price that I could get online. They didn't do anything to help us which I found insulting given that my party had just spent close to $10,000 on a 5 night stay. A 5 star hotel would never treat a guest in that manner. Hopefully by writing this review the hotel will upgrade its facility and its treatment of its clientele and someday may warrant a 5 star distinction
I haven't stayed in the hotel, I've booked one day pass to the beach. I very much liked the experience. The beach is small but cozy, very few people there, beach battlers are doing their best so you can feel yourself like in paradise - which I did. I also had my lunch in the restaurant - it really worth it, you should try ;)
Greatest service I have experienced. At arrival, they were waiting at the gate for us with a fresh cool face cloth, and a welcome drink. Took us for a tour and then took us to our room and made sure we knew where everything was and how it worked. These people know how to make you feel fantastic. Room was absolutely beautiful. Stayed in a Superior Beachfront Suite. Had our own beach, pool, mini bar and everything else you could ever want. We will be going back for anniversaries in the future. I could live there!
