The staff at this hotel seemed to have no interest in providing service. Since it is not all-inclusive, they would benefit by selling more drinks and food, but instead they seem bothered when you order something. A shame because the location was nice.
We bought a day pass though an online site. We were expecting Hilton standards but this resort is not up to Hilton standards even for a day pass user. What is strange is the number of great reviews we read about this place for the day pass and the disconnect with what is actually happening on site. That seemed very suspicious and we felt duty bound to create a review to tell others. The ground aren't kept, the place wasn't the cleanest. Everything looks tired and worn, like they're not putting an new money into this resort. The pool is small for the number of guests, there are 2 beaches you can use. There are enough loungers for everyone. We were quite surprised once we walked through the resort to see the condition. They had filled the former kids pool in with sand to make a beach volley ball pit, no one was using that. So the one pool left was crowded. We ate at the beach restaurant. It was delish! The staff were nice and accommodating where they could be. Service at the beach bar was slow, they were doing the best they could. I would say for a day pass pay a bit more and go to the Santa Barbara. The resort is tired and worn, has seen better days. The Marriott beside it closing I think has impacted it.
The hotel itself definitely needs updating...carpeting is really stained, and room furniture is from the 60's. But, everyone who worked there was wonderful, made up for what the hotel looked like. Our housekeeper, Azucena was fantastic. Wonderful lady, would talk to us in the hallway each morning. Our room was always tidy when we got back home, and even had snacks every so often. There is a casino on site. We are not gamblers, but one night took $40 each; and my husband won $160 on a penny machine, we were ecstatic!!The bar on site is just so so. They did have a piano man and a singer once per week and they were wonderful!!Very small beach, we rented a car and went to other sites on the island.Car rental on site as well.
As other reviewers have said, the look of this resort is outdated. If you want to invoke the Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin era, the décor of this hotel will certainly bring you there. The nostalgia of the place could actually work to create a fun, retro atmosphere, except that the carpets are worn and dirty, interior fixtures need repair, and there is lots of rust. I would give the décor a pass if the customer service had made up for the neglected updates, but I cannot review the place without imploring the management to better train their employees. Examples: The bar was always dirty from the previous guests' spilled drinks and leftover cherry stems. In every visit, servers had to be asked to clean the bar surface, and it still remained sticky. In peak times, there were at least 5 people working behind the bar; everyone was busy cutting limes, filling ice buckets, adding up receipts, but no one was serving guests! Also, Bob Marley was a great reggae artist and activist, but enough already!! Put other artists on your music loop. The front desk was manned by workers who could not answer the most simple questions without getting assistance from a manager. This caused delays and lines. Our basic requests for things like extra coffee in the room, were left unfufilled. We were locked out of our room twice!! Our shower clothes line was broken, and it only got repaired after I said that I would hang our swimsuits on the balcony rail (which faced the entrance of the property). As mentioned in other reviews, our thermostat had a mind of its own, even after an engineer came by to fix it.If you are sill reading, here are some positives: The pool is great for families, as the depth starts at 2 inches, allowing toddlers to enter the pool by stepping right into it. The pool gradually slopes to 5 feet, and meanders through the property. It was clean and beautiful. I took the Aqua Yoga class - it was lots of fun with a great instructor. The beach is small, but adequate and intimate, and great for snorkeling. The Cielo Restaurant on the property has great food and service.I suspect this property is a low priority for the Hilton Corporation. This could be a great resort if given some attention.
The gym really needs to be better taken care of. The gym floor is simply dirty and dusty, the machines are full of sweat spots, the airco leaking, or simply don't work at all in the small workout place. People using their mobiles is utterly irritating. The hotel itself is very outdated which should not be a problem if everything was better taken care of. The cleaning of the rooms could be improved, it's no joy to find long hairs in the corner of the bathroom. The waiting time at the beach bar: Food is simply not appealing (a waste of money really), breakfast buffet should be filled up regularly which is not, coffee & tea hot which is was not. No one seems to care at all.I remember the hotel from 25 yrs ago, it has not improved at all. Really a pity.
