OverviewKontiki Beach Resort is the ultimate location to enjoy the bright sun and the deep blue sea in comfort and peace. Located next to the Curacao Sea Aquarium.
Very nice and clean resort with very friendly people. If you are looking for a luxurious tropical Paradise instead of a simple hotel this is the place to be. Right next to the beache with various excellent restaurants.
Our stay was definitely not what we expected from it. our room was smelling like somebody pied on the floor, we mentioned this twice, didn't got any feedback and the smell stayed. On the first evening (arrival) the staff argued with each other in the restaurant (Mood) because of our food, the service didn't took our food out of the kitchen - it took over 5 minutes - so our food was almost cold when the girl decided to bring it over. next to this the same girl (looked like a sort of manager) couldn't handle 3 tables and was in over her head. But the harder you scream that you have money to spend the more attention you get. In our opinion everybody is equel and you should handle every guest like you want them to come back! So we decided not to come back to Mood anymore. The housekeeping forgot alLot of things, there was something wrong everyday; Left dirty cleaning towels in our room, didn't took out the trash etc etc. maybe small things but if you look at the price of the accommodation you expect almost perfection. The staff at the reception are not that happy - they look like they are moody everyday. If you have questions about the area, the things to do or any other thing - the standard answer is: "don't know" and that's it. We also mentioned we didn't got a weekly planning with "things to do" (we saw this as we only received this the day before we went home) it's a shame as this was one of the things we asked the reception and got the answer as mentioned above. As you can see, a waists of our money as we see it and that's a big bummer as we were saving for over a year to come here to Kontiki.
We stayed a week in Kontiki Beach Resort last May. We were very pleased with the room. Some things we were very pleased about: very comfortable bed, nice shower and bath, room (2421) near the beach and restaurants, Dutch/ European wall-outlets (so no travel plugs required), a balcony to relax in the night, refrigerator and enough closet space. As also answered below, in the lobby and in the room free and stable wifi. Nice and varied breakfast, with options to have order a custom omelet or a smoothie of your choice. In 5 minutes you walk to mambo beach, where you have some extra options for dinner, lunch or a snack. Also a subway and an ATM can be found here.Every morning (9:30, 10:00 at Sunday) there is a shuttle bus who will take you to a supermarket nearby (Vreugdenhil) free of charge. The only things we experienced were that the towel service / cleaning service also came around 19:00 (Curacao) time, which we didn't expect and at some points the shower would leak some water without touching it. But the last two points are in slight contrast to the great experience we had!
The resort area is beautiful. The staff is awesome. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The only complaint I have is that on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the beaches at the resort have these beach parties. The music is extremely loud (and I'm not a prude). It is European house music, with loud, non-stop bass. Wouldn't have been that bad if they had a reasonable stop time for these parties. They went on, brace yourself, until 2:30-3:00am. I realize there isn't much of a nightlife on this island, but I think that is part of the allure (the peace). It isn't a party-island like Aruba, but I suppose these beach parties are their way of bringing that nightlife to Curacao. Like I said, if the music stopped at a reasonable time, no issue at all. People are just having fun, but 3am?? Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.......Tips: (1) the restaurant is at Cabana Beach, but there is no inside option. I don't think Cabana Beach is part of the Kontiki, but you can use it. Also, the breakfast on Cabana Beach is a $20 buffet. There is no option to just grab a bagel or a muffin (and no a la carte breakfast). If you want that, there is a new Starbucks not far (walk down beach to Mambo Beach). There are also a few restaurants at Mambo Beach you could walk to for breakfast. On the beach, there aren't a lot of snack options (like what you would be used to if you are American), so I recommend having snacks in your room!(2) Bring a makeup mirror, there is barely any light in the bathroom to put on makeup (and no mirrors where there are brighter lights in the room).(3) Bring adapters, most of the outlets are European style of course (instead of US), we should have known this but we spaced!(4) We were the only people on the beach not smoking, so be prepared to have chain-smoker's smoke in your face the entire time you are trying to enjoy the beauty. I suppose if you go to more remote beaches where there aren't a lot of people this would not be a problem. Also, the smokers don't feel that they need to put their butts in the garbage, they are all over Cabana Beach. Mood Beach is better, but still surrounded by smokers. Nothing anyone can do about that, just making you aware!(5) If you are getting in after dark and driving yourself, you may want to make sure you have a map, or have mapped it out ahead of time. Most of the streets are not marked and there are many, many roundabouts. If you have your GPS it is much easier, but you have to have an international plan to run that so be prepared for that!
We were extremely impressed with the elaborate and beautiful landscaping/gardens. The tropical surroundings immediately put us in vacation mode! Our room was spacious, with a nice private deck, where we enjoyed our delicious morning coffee each day. Everyone from the resort was extremely kind and eager to make our stay special. We celebrated our wedding anniversary while we were there and Ilona, from the Mood Restaurant went above and beyond in making our anniversary special, by creating a romantic dining space on a private deck overlooking the water, complete with wine, candlelight and roses! We had a couple minor misunderstandings while in the bar snack bar area, however the management was very open to hearing our concerns and was immediately responsive in making things right! We highly recommend the Kontiki Beach Resort!
