OverviewKontiki Beach Resort is the ultimate location to enjoy the bright sun and the deep blue sea in comfort and peace. Located next to the Curacao Sea Aquarium.
We decided to stay at this Curaçao resort after deciding to not stay at the Hilton. It is a Dutch resort and according to Dutch standards may be a higher rating. We were not picked up at the airport as promised. The front desk had "no change" as did the cab driver. So it cost us $60 dollars to which we were only given an apology. Convieniently we were given an exact change refund of $35 at checkout. As we were unpacking a giant millipede crawled out from under the bed. The room was distracting with the smell of sewer. For the European reader this may be a 4 star resort. However, for most Americans this may not be what is expected. It took over a hour to receive our omelettes for breakfast. And this was after they were delivered to a nice Spanish couple. The beach scene is also confusing. Once you pin down the staff they are very nice and helpful. We were ready to check out and get back to the Hilton in Aruba.
Nice hotel and staff but a lot to be done with their partners around. Breakfast served outside / nearby the hotels Cabana beach, with no management at all. Lunch and nice beds at Moods next door but hard to find out how one should behave as a guest even there.
Where shall we start.. let's start with check in: When you attempt to come to this boutique hotel because of the beautiful flowers in the picture, the "salt water pool" pictures, the "new beach club", "full service" you PAY and upgrade to, or anything they put in their description- and then you finally arrive, on your Honeymoon, after being BROKEN DOWN on the side of the road for an hour because they ran out of gas (the transportation the HOTEL arranged), then asked to pay $70 for this service (when a cab is only 35/40) - you start to wonder what planet you and your new husband are on. We get taken to our room which seems nice at first- but then you take a peek at the "salt water pools" and they are a foggy green color with algae/slime on the steps so it's not even safe to go in them because you will slip and probably catch a disease. The bathrooms look nice, but nothing ever gets refilled (we had to track down someone for toilet paper, and still never received any more soap). Also the floors and tub was dirty and stayed dirty. Want to sleep on your honeymoon for a few hours? Good luck- you hear a beach party until 4am with loud music and your neighbors upstairs stomping around at 5:30am. Want privacy? Well don't open your curtains and forget your robe because maintenance men will be on your porch right outside your back door in an electrical box at all hours as well, so forget even laying out there. (We are guessing this is the reason they provide you with a robe) They show you a map and tell you where you can eat- and then when you look for the Snacks restaurant and the pizza restaurant and they are ALWAYS closed, the sports bar doesn't exists, and you only have the main beach restaurant for every meal...but then you take a peak at their bar and see that not all the liquors are sealed so flies get into them (and you realize this is why all the bugs are attracted to this area) or birds sit on them, the red wine tastes terrible because it stays open for days, and the service is terrible. We asked where else we can go to eat, and they don't recommend anything to try and get you to stay. Do you think you would get pool towels? They have a limited number of these, with a promise they would bring a set to our room when they are cleaned, which never happened. Did they recommend the new beach? Well don't expect to swim at that beach, nor get service. Paying to upgrade for "full service" is a complete waste, just take a chair on the beach. Expecting a late check out to get some beach time in? Check out is 11 and it is $15 dollars per hour if you want a later check out, even on your honeymoon. I could keep going on- but the real advice is not to come here. We came from 4 nights in Aruba at The Hyatt and realized we should have stayed there to not ruin our honeymoon. The restaurants that are a few minutes walk from this hotel (The Catch, Pizza Mare, and Cafe 40B) are what made our nights better- the service 100X better. We would love a refund to redo the second half of our honeymoon. We're so upset with our choice to stay here.
Resort was beautiful and staff was wonderful. The landscaping was second to none. The snorkeling in front of the hotel was better than the paid excursion off the island. The music from the beach clubs is very loud at night and is almost every night. Quieter rooms would be away from the beach side.
We had a very nice holiday here: the rooms are comfortable (we had connecting rooms) en the location is super! Next to a nice beach with sand and a calm see, so the kids could play and swim here. You could also take a walk on the boulevard where there are more restaurant and shops. From out the rooms, you also have sort of private pools, nice for an afternoon swim. The employees were friendly.
