Actually stayed back in 2015 just got around to writing a review. Loved the place the food was good the staff was very courteous and the beach though small was lovely. The food was a bit on the pricey side since its all inside the resort and there were no atms or close restaurants in the vicinity of the resort.
The hotel is in a great location, with a beatiful sunset. It is attached to a nice sandy beach, with a dive center at the next door. The meals were too expensive, so we bought almost everything at Centrum Supermarket. The hotel facilities were too durty, even the swimming pool. There was a lack o hot water for 2 days. The staff is not friendly. There was a lot of mosquitos - nobody talks about it - but they are very dangerous! we found lots of aedes aegypti, responsible for diseases like zika, dengue and chikungunya fever. The kitchen inside the room is a joke - too small.I recommend the Hilton, or if you want to stay at the Westpunt, the "all west apartments" or "marazul". They are cleanner, cheaper and better.
Let me start the review by saying that I really enjoyed this place very much. It's possible that some of my complaints might be similar at other hotels in Curacao as it could pertain to the culture. The hotel is in a great location. Don't be fooled because it is not in the Willemstad area, as this area is the more "happening" side of town. I am the biggest city buff there is, and I thought the location rocked! However, if you wish to leave the resort at all, you MUST have a car. I cannot stress this enough. The location is on the west side of the island which is just gorgeous. A very big thank you to Gina (Kura Hulanda Willemstad) for helping us get a car last minute, and to John for dropping it off at the airport. This place has the best beaches, views of the mountain, less traffic etc. Some drawbacks are that there aren't as many restaurants, and it does take about 15 minutes to get to any store that has some of your essentials. We just got back from a week there over new years, and traveled into Willemstad 3 days while we were there. It takes about 40 minutes. You can travel the entire island in and hour. Location was top notch, but you NEED a car if you stay here. The people at this place were very friendly. Special shout out to Debra (housekeeper) who noticed we didn't have a frying pan for eggs, so the next day she brought one from her house with a spatula. What a nice lady! The front desk lady that I loved was Derkien "Dushi". Another wonderful person who made our stay very enjoyable. Great personality, and wonderful smile who was very personable. Zeke the bartender was also nice to talk to, and made great drinks. Some people have told me that people in Curacao are rude, or not friendly, but I found if you talk to them they open up, and are very pleasant. Some are just a little quiet at first. This was one of the differences I noticed in comparison to Jamaica where the people are very friendly, and not as quiet. The beach out front is small in comparison but I thought it was just as nice. All seemed to be a bit rocky, but the views of the cliffs and mountains were spectacular. We had a Ocean front room which I would think is a must if you're staying here. The Garden rooms seemed to be way far back from the beach, and looked mostly vacant to me. Ok, now for some of the not so good. We booked on Hotwire, and I called right away to see what type of room we had and the gentlemen on the phone told me it was a Ocean front room. When i heard this I was ecstatic because I knew it was nicer, and thought we'd get the garden view. I asked him to email me because I thought he may have made a mistake and wanted it in writing so there was no confusion when we checked in. Sure enough when we checked in they said we had a garden room. I was pretty upset, and asked to see the Manager. I showed him the email, at first he didn't seem like he was going to accomodate us but after some complaining he finally gave in and got a room ready for us. Now for the room review. Beautiful view, spacious, kitchen stuff, refrigerator, etc. However, it was kind of "makeshift" if you ask me. It had AC but was never consistent. In one room it was hot, the other cold. I tried to keep it going the entire trip but it was constantly an issue. Two lights were out in the living room, hot water in the shower was not hot, barely even warm, outdoor shower was not working, and some kitchen items were not available. The rest: As some stated before the grounds of the resort are nice but could be updated. The restaurant food here is not great. Mediocre at best, the service was slow at the restaurants. I'd stay away from the food here if you can. To sum up my experience...I would definitely go back to Curacao. Loved the place, and would probably stay here again based on the location, but most of all the experiences with the staff members mentioned above. If you consider staying here you must have a car in my opinion.
This property is in major need of upkeep! Sadly, the best thing about it is the website. Problem is, the website does not accurately portray the property. I had an ocean view suite which actually had a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was quite spacious.Unfortunately, if I wanted to view the ocean I had to do it from inside with my door closed and the AC on, because the bugs are horrible and there are no screens. I tried to sit outside a few times using lots of bug spray but it was impossible. The AC worked so so. There was no WiFi in the room. I had to walk to the lodge and sit in the lobby in order to have any access. The TV worked, but it is from the 80's and the remote was broken. Not the end of the world, but another inconvenience to add to the list. The restaurant was ok, the food was serviceable but nothing to brag about. The fitness room was a joke. The equipment is left over from the mid-90's, and for the most part doesn't work. The landscaping is largely overgrown, and the walkways are not well lit at night. The staff was pleasant, but had a generally helpless attitude about the various problems. I heard several guests complaining about issues and didn't get the impression that much was being done to resolve them. I left after 4 days of a planned 6 day stay. they wouldn't give me any refund or credit, but the worst thing was that they never even asked why I was leaving early. Obviously this was not a first for them!Curacao is a beautiful island with lots to offer. I have been here a dozen or so time over the past few years. I'd suggest finding another place to stay.
Just about everything you would expect from even a run-of-the-mill hotel is sorely lacking at this so-called resort. This must have been a showplace at one time, but deferred maintenance and shoddy patchwork has rendered it both unsafe and unsightly. We checked in at night & were led through a pitch black garden to an unlighted deck, where a sunken paving stone and a missing step led to a nasty fall. Outside, the gardens are neglected and overgrown. Inside the room, most lights, electrical sockets, and television did not work. Housekeeping was sporadic. At the restaurant, breakfast was included, but very little was palatable; overpriced lunch and dinner menus alone justified our car rental. The demoralized and largely untrained staff is apologetic at best. Not sure I'd recommend Curacao as a destination, but if you go, choose another hotel.
