Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino
- What's Included
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights over Easter. We had been to Curacao before so knew that the hotel was a quick walk from the centre of Willemstad. The check in was very efficient and we were in our room by 1pm. The bell boys were very friendly. We had an ocean view room with a balcony which was largen modern and clean. The only complaints were that the bed was too soft and the air conditioning was blowing over the bed which combined to make a good nights’ sleep difficult. The are some strange inside view rooms that only look into a large ballroom. Staying in these rooms would have certainly spoilt the experience. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was of a good quality but was very noisy so we chose to sit outside which was much more peaceful. The design of the pool and beach is ingenious as it is on the second floor of the hotel! The artificial beach and salt water swimming pool give a true infinity pool experience overlooking the Caribbean. We had a couple of snacks at the pool which were of a good quality although the cost of the drinks is quite expensive.
Fabulous ocean front location with amazing views. The man made swimming pool is innovative and feels quite natural. Service st the pool was quite slow. Sun beds and umbrellas were always available Rooms are a bit basic and regular sized but clean with very comfortable clean linen that I really wished smelled better. Stained bedroom and corridor carpets were a bit musty and needs replacement honestly. Bathrooms Were basic but with luxurious bath products and nice granite counters. The towels here are very rough and abrasive and are in URGENT NEED OF UPGRADE to a soft more face friendly brand The beds were soft and very comfortable. Housekeeping was good but pretty late for us in the afternoons. Very attentive front staff especially Arlone (hope I spelled that right )the front doorman who was very friendly and kind giving good local advice always greeting us directly. Security is good in this hotel near the elevator and the casino Buffet breakfast was expensive 26USD per person for what is offered ( only pork sausages and bacon, fresh omelette ,two types of bread, tuna/egg salad ,two cheeses ,A FEW FRUITS melon , banana apples ) and wait service was a bit slow for coffee and tea. The excellent points about this hotel is its proximity to the Pontoon bridge and a short walk to Punda the main part of the city where there are great shops and excellent restaurants away from the waterfront where prices are much better. Shopping at the RIF mall on the hotel property was high end and pricey for basic American apparel and makeup which is better for browsing in my opinion. The Freeport jewellers had fabulous luxury pieces - great on the eyes but pocket bursting. Nearby Starbucks in the mall and on the hotels Second floor was very very convenient The movie theatre at the hotel property at the front also at the Renaissance mall had a two for one special on Monday's which is Just great Overall I was happy for the location and shopping environment but this is not a luxury hotel. I would recommend a change to the breakfast buffet menu with some variation and even some local fish or plantains. The German chef at Dinner Buffet was quite engaging and delivered huge portions of freshly ordered pasta that was delicious. Dinner BBQ buffet again focused on pork dishes and not much beef lamb or chicken dishes which is a disadvantage if you don't eat pork or bacon. We had a great time at this hotel but feel that with a little improvement as suggested the experience would be amazing. The friendly frontdoor staff should be commended for for great attitude and good advice.
The Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino is located in Otrobanda, a pleasant 7 minute walk from the Queen Emma floating bridge located in the heart of downtown Willemstad. The hotel is at the entrance to the harbour and does not have a beach but the infinity pool has a sandy area with palapas that does a good job simulating a beach. The hotel is a modern convention style hotel with an exterior that reflects the Dutch colonial style architecture; it would not be out of place in Las Vegas. The rooms are well appointed and are typical of a Marriott property. Ocean view rooms have a balcony that overlooks the pool and sandy area with palm trees.Breakfast offers choice of Continental or full buffet options however the items included in each option are not marked or explained by the staff so that most guests get charged for the higher priced full breakfast option. Xquisit fine dining restaurant – across the street towards the fort – is reasonably priced better than average hotel based restaurant. The casino is quite small and not that busy, we had no issues with excessive noise associated with it.The Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino is an excellent base for a three day trip to explore Willemstad.
Perfectly located property in Willemstad close to Queen Emma Bridge and in the proximity of many good restaurants. Extremely friendly and helpful staff from bellboy to front desk. The navigator desk on the ground floor helped us with plenty of things like getting a rental car or making restaurant reservations - Shekina just knows about everything. The breakfast is really good, especially the pumpkin pancakes. If you are a platinum member, free continental is included for you plus one guest. It is also nice to have an inhouse Starbucks. The pool area is also great they have a saltwater pool with an artificial beach. The gym is okay, but small for a hotel of this size. However, it is very well maintained and all the equipment works perfectly. I would always come back.
We stayed here for six nights in April and were very happy with our beautiful room, the pool, the location close to many restaurants and shops, and most of all, the people! From Chris, the bellman, to Angelique at the front desk and Shekina, the wonderful concierge at the Navigator desk, as well as the various servers at breakfast, everyone was always helpful and cheerful. Also, order the pumpkin pancakes for breakfast, they are delicious!
