Be Live Collection Canoa

We arrived here after a one-week cruise on the Costa Pacifica cruise ship. We have been already at this resort 9 years ago. Its name before was Oasis Canoa. The only change we noticed was that the beach has no more stones. I guess over the years hurricanes changed that in different spots. If you snorkel you will see a dark shaded area that starts at the end of the pier and goes far to your left, these are multiple cocoons with holes in them. In these cocoons you will see multiple species of different fish spiny sea urchins and corals. Warning do not touch the sea urchins it will sting you and the area stung will be numb for 3 to 4 days. The beach also has a new deck and lounge area, just beautiful, but to sit here it costs $30 USD a day cushioned chair parasol and meal and drinks included. Our room was on the upper floor, no noticeable odours in our room and very clean with lots of hot water. We were with a group of 10 travellers. The buffet food was repetitive and not very hot. One week of eating just about the same menu day to day was enough for us all. The site has a beautiful wide variety of different ducks, birds, turtles, pheasants and turkeys that hang out outside the buffet area near the little water fall with two small bridges. Just gives us spectacular photos and sense of Zen. Don’t forget your flip-flops in this area please. In all we enjoyed our stay there once again.
A friend and I booked the Be Live about 4 weeks before we headed out. We returned on Sunday. From the moment we arrived the staff was amazing with us. We choose at the hotel to upgrade to the VIP since it was less money than with Air Transat. The only glitch at that time was there are two plans A and B, and would have been nice to get a sheet of paper advising what plan A entailed. Needless to say we muddled through and just asked questions along the way. The VIP gets you access to adults only pools, loungers, beach, more a la cartes, etc. VIP is completely what I would recommend for beach especially. It has the lounge beds as well, plus the loungers are cushion. The food at the buffet was fantastic with a wide selection (recommend your omelette be well cooked), and the a la cartes range from Mediterranean (avoid the lobster linquini), Mexican, Pizza, Japanese and Brazilian. Mexican was truly my favorite of them all. The Lobster Shack is new, and if you want to spend the money to sit on the deck for the day, its well worth it. Will cost you $15US for a bed, but everything out there has to be paid for. So where are the glitches, cause nothing is perfect. The VIP pool and its lunch area did have children, it started on the Sunday and continued for the week. Its all in what you make it. Rumor has it the family belonged to the owner, and his privilege doesn't mean he has to follow the rules, alas, his management team understands customer service way better than he does, and did everything they could to make things easier, including a late checkout and refund. I was respectful for the fact that they tried, and that is better than I had expected. Overall I would return to the resort. They have plans for renos starting next year, and I can't wait to see what they come up with. If you problems walking you should know that the lobby to the pool or building 6 is approximately 1200 steps, and the buildings are 3 floors with no elevators. Key cards not working can be a hassle when you are no where near the lobby. Not sure if the VIP section has any rooms with two double or queen beds (this would be a wonderful change), but we chose a regular room with a pool view and it was wonderful. We would have liked towels every day, and our fridge stocked daily (included), but once we said something, that seemed to fall into place as well.I'm not a complainer on vacation, but I found that sometimes you had to say something, and you should, you're paying for it after all. Overall I loved my week at the Be Live Canoa. I highly recommend talking to Isiodore at Guest Services if you have issues, and if your in VIP see Miguel at the pool for all your needs. Mario in the lounge will make you any drink you want and smile all the way through the day. Roberto - one of the managers, is an extremely honorable and charming man, who knows the value of a review and how customer service or lack there of can break a hotel. Any issues, try to get to him and explain what the issue is, he is a very understanding man.
It was just above okay. On our last night we observed a fight in the main square. Security was unable to contain the issue. To the point one of the combatants was allowed to stay and continue drinking. The Second individual stayed in the area. Once the first saw the second another time he attacked again. Breaking through "Security ". He came back...Sat at the table and continued drinking. Female guests not involved left in tears. Both these individuals should have been ejected from the facility. I did engage the management relative to this situation and got the sense they had no support from corporate. I felt bad for the staff...And worse for those who save all year... or longer to take a vacation to realize drunks rule their environment.....And yours. Copy and paste review. I'd love to do the same with your response.
My friend and I came here on a girls get away and had an absolutely amazing time. The food was good, the beach was amazing, the pool huge! There was always something going on that was put on by the entertainment staff who were also amazing! We were greeted with a smile everyday from a nice Cabana boy Nathanael who worked day in and day out making sure the pool area was clean for everyone to enjoy. Based on the staff and the resort we will definitely be back sooner rather then later!
So let me start by saying I’m generally not a fan of all inclusive resorts but i have been to a few that were enjoyable. Be Live Canoa was certainly NOT one of them ! This “resort”, and i use the term loosely, was a nightmare from start to finish. We were directed to stay there thru our time share company interval international ( which i will be reaching out to as well as this place should not be an option for my trade in- i own several weeks in St Marteen at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort but it is under renovations because of the last hurricane) Let me list the issues we had at Be Live for you so you get an idea:Arrived and was “sold” their VIP package for an additional $25 a day, per person on top of the resort all inclusive fee. This $25 included absolutely nothing except a different color bracelet but was told it would come with all sorts of benefits like premium drinks at any bar (not), reservations at the “premium” restaurant (which by the way anyone can get) All adult areas which was not as children were everywhere, bathrobe, slippers, champagne in room, premium bar in room, spa treatment, etc - none of which ever materialized. Apparently those are only for the vvip not vip. Lol. Who new. Next, the shower in my room dribbled out of the faucet. When i asked for it to be repaired it took 6 days- i was only there for 7! The toilet flushed occasionally. Mostly never The food areas were unsanitary and the choices were exactly the same every day and tasted horrible. The staff is so unhelpful it’s amazing they even get paid. We ended up staying on the pier daily (not a part of Be Live all inclusions but owned by them???) which we had to pay $15 pp per day for a lounge chair and towel. No drinks or food was included but was the only place to get decent service and products. That alone cost us an extra $1000+ for the 5 days we spent on there. Every corner you turned someone was trying to sell you a Vacation Club membership. So annoying. Would follow you down the paths until you got angry enough that they’d walk away. Mind you, they couldn’t give me one for free! One out of every 25 people spoke broken English so the communication was atrocious. They do not cater to Americans at all! The only reason it got one star is because the beach (on one side anyway) was nice and the water was clean. So moral of the story, stay away. Go to a better, more expensive resort. I guess the old adage holds true- you get what you pay for.
