Too many mosquitoes , beach average, buffet better than restaurants, entertainment team good have been a little better at the beach ,also would have lik,d to have music at the beach, check in not enough staff for the people who arrived
We traveled November 17-24, 2 long-time girlfriends looking for a rest and some pampering and we got just that. Hotel Check in - easy, no issues. Beautiful lush resort, lots of flowers and a really huge pool that seemed to go on and on. We saw some peacocks walking around. We booked a standard room and got a nice ocean view room - a really nice touch. The room was nice - can't complain, clean and tidy. Housekeeping came every day and were very attentive to give us bottled water and as many towels as we needed. No problems.Weather - Lots of rain (4 out of the 7 days), a little more sun would have been better but that did not spoil our fun. We could still walk the beach and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves. The workers were cleaning up the beach every day.Food - this is very important to me. Food was really good! much better than I expected,. This was my 7th time to DR and 6th time to Puerto Plata, staying at different hotels. Great choice at the buffet and the specialty restaurants added a special touch. Lovely ambiance and always something to love. The all night snack bar was the best - nice place to grab a bite after midnight - and the food was super with a great pot of local soup always on the go, fried chicken, burgers made on the spot ets....and all right next to the ocean.Bars - all good. Pool bar was great - quick service. The best was the lobby bar at the disco - great cocktails to sip in the lobby and just enjoy the views.Staff - truly great people - Luis (pool towels, dancing at the disco), Mosquito (entertainment), Hector (pool aerobics)....and great service with a smile from all the bartenders and restaurant servers. No one expected tips - they still gave great service.Overall - I would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to others. I see that it is a bit dated but it has a nice charm about it and you get the feel of the Islands and the warmth of the people. Its a nice size and not far from the airport. People complain about everything sometimes...Take a chance and you might find a wonderful surprise.....we did.
If you are thinking of visiting Puerto Plata do it! and make your resort of choice Be Live Collection Marien, it is well priced good value for your dollars. From my first point of contact to my departure I felt at home, staff members were friendly and informative. The entire resort was very well maintained and clean. My room was spacious and cleaned daily. The food, I ate and drank well awesome, make sure you try the local beer. The staff did a good job keeping guess entertained. Because of the rainy period I didn't take advantage of the beach but the pool sufficed. I want to say many thanks to front desk staff Frank and Denisse Santos who I now consider friends. I am planning another trip in the near future and it will be, Be Live Collections Marion.Don E
This is a bit of a dated hotel, but the staff work hard to keep things clean and neat. The best part of this resort for me was the staff and the pool. The worst part was the beach but I knew that when I booked as this side of the island isn't as nice as the other side. This is not a huge resort and this makes going from point A to B pretty simple (even for someone like me who gets lost everywhere!) There is a "casino" on site as well which 4/6 of our group went to on several occasions. They said it was fun. However, when I say casino, please don't think of one like in Windsor or Niagara. Just there for entertainment anyway. One of our group did win $150 and another $120 but who knows how much that cost them to win it? Some in our group were harassed repeatedly by the time share people but my husband and I were approached once, we said no thanks and they left us alone. The food at the resort is decent. If you can't find something to eat, you must be awfully picky! The Brazilian restaurant was amazing!! So good that we went twice! Our server made it the best night there (for the life of me I can't remember his name- Juanto maybe? Here Kitty Kitty). Most of our down time was spent near the front bar. Carla and Mercedes were friendly and very helpful. The woman who took care of our room was very sweet as well (Anna). She even invited us to her home to meet her family! We had plans on her day off or we may well have gone!We did do the cable car tour and I would highly recommend it! Climbing above the clouds and just enjoying the sounds of nature so high up was fantastic! My husband did go scuba diving and he seemed pleased with it as well, although you have to pay cash for your dives which really cuts into spending money. The shops are cute and the prices quite reasonable...even compared to shopping in town. The shops on the right hand side, last stall on the left is where we bought most of our stuff (Hello brother from another mother!). He is very open to haggling and seems to love what he does. Some of our group did the Paradise Island tour but went with a local rather than book through the hotel (yes I panicked while they were gone) but they said it was amazing and much cheaper. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. I may actually consider going back which is saying something as I have NEVER done a resort more than once! I am thinking of going back alone and would feel completely safe there. I can't comment on the shows as I rarely made it up that late...lol....sun and beer make a sleepy combination. It would be easy to pick this place apart for little things, but why? It was inexpensive, clean, fun, staff are awesome, and you need to understand that this is not a 5* resort.
We are having such a blast. Food is amazing. Beach is beautiful. Staff is very very nice. Wish hotel had free wifi but that's a silly first world problem. Didn't need to pack much to wear just bathing suits and a sun dress for dinner.
