I absolutely loved the entertainment staff. They made you feel like you've known them forever. Our biggest complaints would be how long check in took us. They only had 2 people checking people in and it took nearly 1 1/2 hours to check in. Also the housekeepers, the only time we got decent cleaning done to our room was when we tipped money and toys!!! unacceptable! Our beds had never been made up for us. the floors un swept, our mini bar was not restocked nor our coffee. not once did we get clean sheets. The Food was great. The staff was always super friendly. The pool closed at 7pm everyday which was really annoying. Walking around the resort was great very pretty. the beach was always clean.
I visited Grand Marien with 4 friends from February 7-14. It was a short 20 minute drive from the airport. Check in: Slow compared to the other resorts I've been too but they brought us welcome drinks while we waited to get our room keys. Rooms: We stayed in block 5. Closest to the front lobby and further away from the beach. The rooms were nice and cleaned daily. We only got one large bottled water but it was no big deal to take our water bottles we brought from home and refill them either at the bars or buffet. There was a room safe but you had to buy the lock for it at the front desk. I believe it was $3/day.Food: The food was amazing! The main buffet had a large selection of foods. We tried all three A Le Cartes: Mexican, Brazilian and Mediterranean. The service and food were great at all three but my favourite was the Mediterranean. If you are one of those late night snackers like I am, the Snack Bar by the beach had food all night long.Staff: Everyone was friendly and had a smile on their face even though they worked long hours and had to keep up with the busy pace. Very professional. The entertainment team were lots of fun to be around with. The resort was always kept clean.Pool and Beach: The pool was great! Quite large with three sections to it. If you visit this resort with a group of people I would recommend waking up around 7am to get pool chairs together. There were a few times we went to get pool towels and they were out for a few hours. The beach was nice. They did a good job clearing the seaweed everyday.Wifi: You can buy wifi for $60USD for a week or $25USD for a day. They do have free wifi (1 hour a day) just outside the entrance to the buffet. I heard guests complain about having to buy wifi. We just used the one free hour a day to keep our family and friends updated with our well-being. In my opinion, you're on vacation and shouldn't be paying attention to your phone 24/7.Overall, all five of us had a great stay at this resort. I can't wait to come back!
Had a fully prepaid vacation package, but the hotel was overbooked and they had to move us to a different hotel because there was no room available left. Can't say anything about the resort since didn't get to stay there. If you're booked here on a busy holiday weekend, might want to reconfirm your stay even if you've already prepaid for everything ...
This is an older hotel close to Puerto Plata. It has a nice pool, is clean and the food is satisfactory. The Mediterranean and Rodizio restaurants are very worthwhile. The beach is typical Atlantic with the water often rough. Staff are aloof unless you speak Spanish otherwise they struggle with the language on anything but a basic request. Nightly entertainment is desultory at best. The new hotel store is well priced. Arrange a town tour with the concierge to get a great deal, we paid $40 plus tip for a new mini van taxi. The driver was great. For a six day all inclusive the hotel is fine. Unless you get fussy, ie American, you will enjoy your stay.
Location: only 15 mins away from the airport. Located near a golf course and market place for souvenir shopping.Service was fine. Towel person was a little rude. You had to get the towels returned by 6pm. If not, he was quick to express his irritation if you missed the time and brought back towels to exchange in the morning. Jeremy in the main buffet was exceptionally pleasant given his task of preparing the churros which were a breakfast must! My husband left his ball cap in the dining area. When he went back 10 mins later, no one recalled seeing it until the buffet manager was called and the hat re-appeared. Maid service was very good, the rooms were always cleaned very well. Bar staff at all locations were excellent, great demeanor even though the lines never seemed to end!Rooms: the rooms were clean and spacious. The rooms were not very sound proof though and we could hear the people next door as if they were in the same room as us. Also the noise levels from the hallway were very audible. Poor hotel construction. My biggest complaint about the rooms was that during high usage times (morning and evening), we had periods where there was no water coming out of the shower and taps. We were on the 3rd floor.Food: buffet and a la cartes food was excellent. Lots of variety and tasty options. Enjoyed the lobster dinner for purchase - good value at USD 20. Snack bar was also very convenient. However, you cannot avoid the people who use their hands as tongs at a buffet as if it was their own personal meal!It didn't impact us directly, but friends and others had issues withdrawing money from the ATM using bank cards and credits cards.Kids had a blast on the beach. Great beach for long walks! Lots of beds and cabanas, but you have to get up early to secure one.
