My family stayed at this resort in January 2017. We did not receive the accommodations we purchased upon check-in. The lady was very rude, and reported she only had a king garden room for THREE ADULTS! We reserved a superior ocean view with two queen beds. The room we received had water leaking from the ceiling, mold thriving in the bathroom, leaking mini-bar, soiled bed linens, broken shower, and was filthy! After much back-and-forth with the staff, I finally spoke to a manager who reported they had one room with two beds, but it was a basic garden view room. The manager refused to compensate us for their error, or remedy the literally unlivable conditions. Stay away! The resort is disgusting, food below average, staff unaccommodating.
Worst customer service experience ! Had 4 rooms at check-in 2 of the rooms were ready but not really had beer bottles on the balcony the trash basket had old toilet paper from the prior guess the other 2 were not ready received the room at 5 PM 😡.All of the 4rooms smelled like mold Ask to have the rooms switched because of my son having asthmas and some of us having allergies they only said they could switch one room . The liquor was the lowest on the shelf not a big variety of food . The vip Beach area was Very nice .will not recommend this place
I don't even know where to begin. Everything was sublime. The waitstaff, the room service, the ocean....we could not have even imagined it to be so fantastic. Dominican Republic shared its hearts with us. They will be forever in our hearts! Mariel, we will miss your smile and warm heart! You made us feel so special with how you treated our room and ourselves. Franklin, at the desk? Your smile and warm greeting made us feel at home. The bartenders, the waitstaff? ALWAYS consistent! Everyone naturally worked to make our vacation memorable. They will not be forgotten. Roque? Thank you! Wow, I wish I could name everyone here that made our trip effortless. The people that we met! Holy Cow! People from all over the world shared themselves over dinner, drinks, dancing, and lounging at the beach. We met so many new friends! You will be missed in person but you will be in our hearts forever! Kudos and thank you! The time share sales people? Keep working your jobs...that place is amazing. We did not buy into the V.I.P. and never felt lacking in anything. Everyone has to make a living. The expansion of that resort is astounding over the years. The upkeep? beautfiul. Again, thank you!
Our initial impression upon arriving was very positive. The grounds are kept looking very beautiful and the service at check-in was excellent. We knew from other reviews the rooms would be outdated so that was not a surprise but they were falling apart. They were kept as clean as possible but in the two rooms we had both bathrooms had cracks and broken shower parts. We didn't spend much time in our rooms so things like TVs from the early 90s weren't a very big deal to us, although I would expect more for the price. The pool was boring (our neighborhood pools here in TX are exponentially more exciting) and the beach itself was one of the ugliest we saw in our 4 weeks touring around the Dominican Republic. We DID enjoy the cabanas near the beach and they are beautiful and classy looking, so if you are there to read and lounge to the sound of the ocean (since you can't see the ocean from most of them), it is wonderful. You can order food and drinks to be delivered to you in your cabana which is fun as well. We had read so many reviews of the time share salesmen that we just walked with a purpose and unplugged the phones in our rooms and were never bothered once. So no issues there! The main positive was the food was surprisingly good! The buffets and restaurants all offered good quality and variety and we did enjoy every meal we had there. Service at the restaurants was great but at the bars it was painful to try and get someone to acknowledge you standing there wanting to order a drink. There was construction going on right by our room which lasted until pretty late at night and then when we ate dinner at the Mexican restaurant one night power saws were going on literally right next to us for the whole meal. It was so comical I videoed it!My main warning when you book your room is don't fall for booking the superior room. When I saw that as an option here on Cheap Caribbean I went for it and was excited for a special beach and a nicer room. Our room was absolutely not an upgrade (at least I sure hope it wasn't!) and EVERYONE has access to the VIP beach...it is the main beach of the resort. Save some money and if you do book here just do the standard room. All in all we would save the money we spent on this resort and skip Puerto Plata all together. We saw prettier beaches on literally every other side of the island.
Overall the resort is pretty nice. The units are very nice and comfortable. The food is OK. The beach is somewhat terrible. Nothing around the resort to walk to, so you need a taxi / tour to go to town.
