The resort was ok and the food at the main buffet restaurant breakfast and Lunch was average. I would recommend to travel Monday thru Friday since there will a lot less people. The highlight of my vacation was playing tennis with Lilo tennis pro and Luigi junior pro, they were awesome and great tennis player. If it was not for them I would probably cut my vacation short. They were very accommodating and flexible to play with me. Their tennis fees were very reasonable and it was worth every penny I spent playing. I played in the mornings with Luigi and the afternoons with Lilo. Great people and great tennis players. Thank you to them for a great time.
We came on the Groupon deal. It's a set up to get you to buy Into their membership program. Doesn't seem like a good idea because every member we met didn't have good reviews on being a member. The mosquitoes ate us ALIVE. Make sure you bring insect repellent. The grounds were somewhat shabby as well. I personally don't like the sight lines as in you can't see the shore anywhere on the property even though it's "on the beach." only, maybe, 3 bars out of like 15 actually have liquor you've heard of and none are really convenient to get to. I got a stomach bug on day 2 of a 4 day stay. I didn't drink the water in the room so it was the food but I couldn't pinpoint what food so I struggled throughout the trip. They should have the top shelf liquor at ALL the bars then limit what you can get by your wristband or at least have top shelf at more bars. Their well is worst than American well liquor. Making reservations is difficult to get a good restaurant because there is only one maybe 2 good ones out of 6 restaurants and you can only make reservations for them certain days. Like I said we came on a Groupon deal of 99/night for 2 people and it was barely worth that. I wouldn't advise spending more than that - Fred
My family and I just got back yesterday from our trip. We cannot express our love for this resort. All of the people there including Julio Nice, Blondie from China, Minnie Mouse and Rodolfo will make sure you feel as if you are right at home. This was my family and I's second trip to the resort, and I can't even put into words how much my family and I love it. We don't even want to go on any other vacation but this one! As soon as we got back onto the resort after a year, it felt as if we never left because we got hellos and smiles from everyone once we arrived!! All of the entertainers and surrounding people on this resort will make you feel like family. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing and very entertaining vacation. See you next year DR!!!
My wife and I just got back yesterday from this resort and would never recommend it to anyone. First off, the room we had was literally on the ground floor next to the cleaning crew office where there was constant yelling back and forth from the workers. The room itself had a musty smell and the ceiling of the bathroom was leaking water from the bathroom above. As far as the quality, I have stayed in nicer hotels off the side of the highway in New Jersey before. Just not up to par for being an all inclusive resort. During the first night there were also domestic issues outside of our window where it sounded like a fist fight was going to break out. When we asked to switch rooms they said they were completely booked even though we were told it was the off season. The Casablanca buffet we ate at the first night was horrible. Very nice atmosphere but the food was horrible. Im not a picky eater but I thought the food was bad. We decided to book reservations at the restaurants to avoid the buffet and we arrived at guest services at 8:50am. They told us to come back at 9am as there was nothing they could do until then?? As we left guest services we ended up getting sucked into the "tour" they do and when we got back around 12:30 we again tried to make reservations and were told that window ended at 11am. So again we were out of luck. The pool at the Tropical was more of a college scene with high school kids drinking, obnoxious adults, etc. The swim up bar served drinks that were out of a slushy machine and had very little alcohol if any. At this point my wife and I wanted to just come home as we were having a miserable time. Back to the "tour". We were showed the property and they tried selling us a vacation package. The property itself is very nice and we stated we had no plans on coming back but they showed us resorts within driving distance from our house that would be the same price as what they had indicated would be if we purchased the plan there. We told them they must be dog friendly, they stated they called a few of them and they said dogs were ok. We did the math and the price of everything would actually benefit us as a family in the long run and were quite excited about vacationing back home. After we signed up they gave us VIP bands as well as a room change. Not an upgrade just a change. It was better but nothing special. Once we had these gold VIP bands we were no longer being treated like third class. We had dinner reservations, had privilege to better pools, drinks, and beaches. We actually had an enjoyable time for the remaining 3 days as it finally felt like vacation.Fast forward to yesterday when we got home. We hopped onto the website for the vacation properties and the prices indicated did not in anyway reflect what was described to us. One of the sites I was told that will take 4-6 weeks to even get an account when I tried signing up for it. Again, the pricing was way different than explained and so I started looking to see if they were pet friendly and as I expected they are not. Needless to say we just dropped $4500 into the garbage as we were told incorrect info. We tried to look through the paperwork but they kept most of it so we are unable to even see the fine print. All we want is out, they saw our weakness and jumped all over. We will never use this package...ever. Yes, we could have said "no" but they gave us incorrect information which made us feel comfortable with what we were about to embark on.I have contacted Cheapcarribean and notified them, I have attempted to notify the resort without any response, my wife cant sleep and is crying now because we were scammed. Life is great. I will continue to write bad reviews as we made it abundantly clear what our needs were.We have been married 12 years and this was our second vacation alone without the kids. We don't normally complain, we just wanted a nice relaxing vacation. Now life seems to be more stressfull than ever. There are plenty of other nice all inclusive resorts out there. I would have paid twice as much for a vacation elsewhere to get better quality.
Lifestyle resorts is fine if you have the money to pay for all inclusive. But if you don't, you have to walk or pay to go to town ( five miles ) to eat. They also claim that it's not safe but the people in the Dominican are very kind. They are just not being fair and by keeping tourists out of town , it is hurting the economy. The maids and maintance and security staff were the best! The DR is beautiful but not for the poor traveler.
