VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort

If you're looking for a great hotel with lots of food choices and a decent beach, this is it. Overall this is a solid 4 star, great for the kids and it even has a swim up bar for the adults.
The basic service and rooms are OK relative to the rest of the Dominican standard and what is available. Food at the buffe is "ok to good" while the al la cartel restaurants are TERRIBLE. Some of the Worst meals I have ever experienced and they require dress code...Entertainment is very loud at the pool way into the night, measured at times above 99dB from our balcony. The music is from 90's and 00's with some recent bachata songs, but all 20 songs are repeated throughout the week....The younger male staff were borderline and in Europe would definatly be charged with sexual harrasment on their handsy and flirty sitdowns approaches with guests. When we checking out and in to our extended room (prior agreement with service manager) we were told room had been given away and now fully booked. We asked to be put in touch with other hotels, reception called a few and said everyone was booked. We didn't believe it and so frustrated walked to the resort next door and got a room instant (upgraded to suite after hearing of our other experiences) and stayed 2 nights happily there.+location and beach+experienced staff+the all inclusive package
Traveled to this hotel in January, and it was great. The first two days the weather was not so cooperative, but the next 5 days were great, non-stop sunI loved everything about this hotel, rooms were clean, front desk staff was friendly and helpful. When we arrived, we originally got a room on a first floor level, but wanted a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor, and they were happy to accommodate on the spot.Buffet food was incredible (although i am comparing it to a 3-star in Cuba), but the variety was amazing. The three a-la-carts were excellent also. The staff kept everyone entertained, with daytime activities (daily zumba, pool volleyball, salsa classes, games and competitions) and nightly entertainment. If you travel with kids there is even an early evening entertainment for kids.My one of two issues was in the buffet, it was hard to get a refill of water or get a pop drink or something. They have staff walking around with water and wine, i think if you want a pop drink, they should have a staff doing that also.My second issue was no drinks before 10am, and no drinks after midnight. There is no great nightlife outside the resort, you'll have to go into Puerto Plata to find anything. There is a Club just down the street, just past the mall. Went there twice (a Saturday and Thursday) and total of maybe 20 ppl in there each time. If you go in a big group, you will have a good time among yourselves, but if you go as a couple, you two may be the only ones on the dance floor.Overall, i recommend this hotel for everyone, family, couples, singles etc.
I had a great vacation the staff was awesome. The rooms where excellent lot of things to do horse back riding. The food was exceptional the beach was walking distance. I would definitely recommend this play to go for a relaxing time.
only 20 minutes from the airport, check in was fast but no rooms till 3. We asked for king size bed on 3rd floor in quiet area, was put on 2nd floor in double bed YIKES, but we managed. ROoms are clean, great wifi throughout for 35$american a week. Buffet has a lot of choices and everything has lids...so no flies on the food. Steak at the beach at night at a la carte was very good. Pool is very nice (there is a quiet pool in another section, it is smaller but very quiet). wings and pizza served at beach bar with washroom is great. Lots of chairs at the beach. Beach is nice to walk. People were very nice, lobby is nice to sit at to enjoy your Irish coffees which are delicious. Coffee always available, bar opens at 10am.
My husband, son and I traveled to this resort in December for 2 weeks. We were blown away at how amazing this resort was. Here are the highlights:Zumba: They brought in a Canadian Fitness Instructor who was SO awesome. This was the highlight of our trip. Amber taught us Zumba in the pool and on the beach everyday. She was so energetic and encouraging and had SO many people in her classes. I would not normally participate in this but she personally invited us to come and made us and the other guests feel so welcome. She handed out towels to us in the morning with a big smile and always reminded us of what the day’s activities were. Her music was fun and the other entertainers would join in as well. It was like a big party! I really really hope she is there when we come back. Entertainment - The other entertainment staff was excellent as well. A special thank you to Randolph for always going above and beyond!! Amoury, Alixandro, Carlos, Delphy, Yardaris, Shorty and Alex work so hard to make the activities fun! Management - This is the first resort I have been to where the management is so visible and interactive with the guest. You can tell they have a great relationship with their staff as well. Roberto (entertainment manager) & Pedro (general manager) were always out and about making guests feel welcome. On Wednesday night they would have a cocktail party and introduce all the management and staff. They really made it feel like a family that we were included in. I think this is why so many of the other guests I talked to were repeat guests and have been coming to this resort for years.Food: the food was awesome. This is the first time I have actually looked forward to eating at a resort buffet. You have to make reservations at the restaurants but if they were full we were just as happy going to the buffet. The selection of food was large and if there was something that we wanted that wasn't there the staff would bend over backwards to get it for us.Rooms: the rooms were basic and clean. Nothing fancy but we didn't spend much time in themBeach: wow! Great beach. The best part of the beach was when Amber would do the Zumba and we would all dance in the sand. When we wanted to relax there was tons of chairs and space.Bar and drinks: perfect.Would we come back....absolutely!! You will not be disappointed if you book this resort!!!!!!!
