Our Opinion

If you're looking for a great hotel with lots of food choices and a decent beach, this is it. Overall this is a solid 4 star, great for the kids and it even has a swim up bar for the adults.

A delightful beachfront hotel, set in the heart of the Playa Dorada Resort complex on 100 hectares of creatively landscaped grounds. From the central fountain in the lobby area to the Victorian-style gazebos in the main buffet restaurant, the Gran Ventana is known for its classy style. Well run and family-owned, it boasts a spectacular free-form pool with swim-up bar, and a second pool which provides its own quiet atmosphere.

Location: Beachfront, 5 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata, 25 minutes from the airport.

Great staff at the hotel! Beautiful people with a passion for life!

Amazing staff at the whole hotel! Especially the dancer/entertainer team and the restaurant. Yardelis, Peña "Shorty", Carlos, Amaurys "Chihuahua", Randol, Delfy, Eliezer, Juan Carlos, Adrian etc. I hope to see you again soon! You guys are amazing.

Gran Ventana

I would like to thank all the staff at the Hotel Gran Ventana for the joy, energy and beautiful attention during the two weeks of my stay. I refered to the staff of the restaurants, the cleaners to the managers of the activities of the pool and the beach. Thanks also to the whole dance group for the nice choruses you enjoy every night and of course the cute animators 😍👌✌🌴🌞🍉🍌🍲🙌. And everyone's favorite word in Great Window EXCELLENT

Nice Hotel but be prepared to get up before sunrise to get a parasol

Visited the Hotel for a 2 week vacation from 1st April till 15th having booked the package through TUI UK. We chose the standard Hotel format rather than paying for the upgrade packages and are very glad we did. Having e-mailed the Hotel well in advance of our arrival of our wants and needs we were very pleasantly greeted with everything we asked for and for that we must thank all at the Hotel for accommodating our requests.We arrived from the UK into Puerto Plata airport after our 9 hrs flight. The Transfer through the Airport was relatively quick if you filled out the government forms and had the $10 tax per person prior to disembarking from the plane.We were then met by a TUI rep who informed us which Coach number we needed to board to get us to our Hotel. Our transfer from the Airport to Playa Dorada is approx. 25mins with 3 drop off's to other Hotels within the resort complex of approx. 8 Hotels.Once we arrived at our Hotel we were asked to identify our suitcases and report to reception. At reception we were greeted with an ice drink We were then given the all inclusive wristbands, towel cards, room credit cards and a safe lock and key if you wanted one at $30 for the two weeks (per safe).Once we were allocated our room numbers we were asked to go back to our luggage and report to the bell boys who would then transfer it to our rooms within approx. 10 mins.Our rooms were 1146 + 1147 which were interconnecting and of very good size and had a very small view of the sea. The rooms were also relatively quite and in a good location. The rooms were cleaned daily and new towels provided as requested (Leave your old ones on the floor and they were changed, Leave them hanging up and they remained). Our only complaint of our rooms was no lighting within a cupboard where the safe is placed and the lack of racking or space to place your clothing for a Family 2 week break.Beach/ pool towels could be changed as many times as you wanted throughout the day or days dependant on you changing them at the towel station.There are two swimming pools at this Hotel 1/ a Quiet pool a Short walk (2mins) from the Main hotel reception and the Main pool with a swim up bar.The Main pool has all the Daily activities and can be extremely noisy when the entertainment team put on the repetitive daily music from 11am till 5pm. There are lots of available sun beds however there are not many Parasols to go around with a majority of the day being in blazing heat with little shade unless you are under the games area cover or evening entertainment area. The pool during the activity time can become very noisy and resemble a 18-30 Holiday at certain times and days.The quite pool had the same issue with the amount of Parasols but also had a limited number of Sunbeds. This also had it's own bar (Not swim up) and shade around the pool area dependant on time of day and cover under the canopy of the Italian Restaurant. This pool although named the quite pool can also be noisy dependant on if there are Children or noisy Holiday makers especially those who bring a music box away with them on Vacation for all to listen to.There are 3 restaurants which need to be booked within the 1st day of your vacation to secure a reservation. We chose a Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week to visit and break up the Buffet food.The Buffet food was very good for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with lots of choices of freshly cooked foods as you wait or foods under cover and lots of vegetables and fresh Fruits and deserts and Bread etc.The Restaurants are Themed Italian, Mexican and a Grill and are ok with the Grill at the Octopus bar being the better of the 3 in our opinion.The Beach is nice and raked and debris removed every morning before 9am. The Sea is very warm but I would pack beach shoes as most of the Hotel section of Beach has destroyed coral base with Sea urchins which do really hurt if you stand on one. There is not much to view in the way of fish so would not bother to take Snorkel equipment with you on Holiday as this can be hired free of charge via the Hotel (Seapro). The Sea is also very rough after approx. 30 meters and there is an under current so be careful. You can walk approx. 2.5 miles along the beach and it is all safe in daylight hours. The Beach has it's own bar and also has the Octopus restaurant for Lunch (Burgers, chicken, Pizza, Salad etc - Limited food types - if you don't like this the Main buffet restaurant is approx. 3 mins walk from the beach).You can Hire a Kayak, Snorkel equipment from the Seapro hut on the beach or by the Beach/ pool Towel collection point. These guys however are very unhelpful and a majority of there gear is old, broken or no longer usable.Within the complex you can also hire a bike free of charge for an hour. These bikes are old, broken or in a poor state of repair along with the cycle helmets and high vis jackets. We used these once and did not bother for the rest of the Holiday.In general I thoroughly enjoyed my Holiday however this Hotel should not be listed any higher by TUI UK than a 3/4 star Hotel. My reasoning for this is the Hotel is looking a little tired, The Free watersports items and Bikes are extremely poor state compared with other Hotels I have used. A lot of the Sunbeds around the Pools and Beach are broken and seen better days.My main criticism of the Hotel however are the amount of available Parasols on the Beach and around the pools. Due to there availability if you want one be prepared to get up bloody early. Set your alarms for no later than 5am each morning as after this time they have all been taken by people placing towels on Sunbeds under the Parasols. It's quite amusing being down on the Beach before 5am in the pitch black with an iphone torch looking for the racks of sunbeds and dragging them to a Parasol then going back to bed for an hour or more before the Sun rises, but at the end of the 2 weeks you are completely knackered and cannot stay awake beyond 10pm.Sickness within the Hotel complex also seemed to be a common theme. Cause unknown. Two of our Family group fell fail of this which lasted a couple of days.The TUI Excursions are very overpriced and not always as per the itinerary set out by the travel operator as we found out on the OUTBACK adventure where a majority of the daily was cancelled and only told us as the coach pulled away from the Hotel so be careful.Any issue's with the Hotel always speak with Reception they are always very helpful and seemed willing to help.

Great again

I can't say enough about how great the time we spend at VH gran ventana is Everyone makes u feel safe secure and at ease. Just like our home away from home. Thank you so much.

Cannot say enough good things about this resort!! This was my first all inclusive and I was a little nervous just from stories I have heard in general about all inclusives, but Gran Ventana exceeded my expectations. The resort itself is beautifully decorated and well maintained. Our room was clean and the staff were never hesitant to bring fresh towels or water. The food was unbelievable. There was always a variety of different foods every day at the buffet. From fresh, healthy options to vacation treats everything was well presented and tasted delicious. The ala cartes were anything but disappointing. Each place captured the ethnicity of the food very well. The biggest thing that allows me to confidently give this resort the rating I did is the staff. I have never witnessed ppl work so hard and enjoy their jobs as much as the staff members at the Ventana. Everyone we encountered with was dressed and acted professionally at all times. We really enjoyed our servers, house keepers and entertainment staff. We enjoyed being interactive with the entertainment staff; Alex Versace, Yardelys Martinez, Juan Carlos, carlos and shortey, only to name a few! They were always so pleasant to be around and great at getting everyone to interact and participate at the resort. They made our vacation that much more fun! I will definitely be visiting this resort again in the near future.
