Our Opinion

Although listed as a 5, this hotel is probably closer to a 4 star. While there are many comparable 5 star resorts, the Barcelo Bavaro Beach still promises beautiful accommodations and boasts to have one of the most beautiful Oceanside views in the world. The Barcelo Bavaro Beach is a family friendly resort. However, there are options of staying in an adult exclusive area for those looking for quieter and more discreet scenery.

Overview
This beachfront resort provides a wonderful spot to relax and replenish under the warm Caribbean sun. Set on a spectacular beach, it offers the ultimate in comfort. Enjoy access to all the facilities within the Barcelo Resort complex (except the French and Spanish gourmet restaurants), along with these generous inclusions: snacks at all pool bars and at the disco, free entrance to the disco and Tropicalissimo Show, mini-golf, and giant chess. The facilities are so extensive here - there are even soccer and baseball fields, a horse ranch, an on-site church and one of the biggest convention centers of the Caribbean!

Location: Beachfront on spectacular Bavaro Beach, 45 minutes to Higuey, 15 minutes from the Punta Cana International Airport.

Great vacation to start off the new year!

This was my first time at this resort. I arrived on January 1st on New Years. Nicely decorated for the Christmas holidays but the Christmas music went on until January 7th so by then as a Canadian, I had had enough of the Christmas ambiance by then. I was a little disappointed to see that the rooms and bathrooms are somewhat outdated but from my experience this seems to be typical for the Barceló resorts. Good service overall, food was good but only two evenings there were themed dinners (Russia & DR). Reservations required for the à la carte restaurant. Shows in the evening were very good but the "discothèque" is off site at the Palace so you either walk or take the shuttle which is somewhat inconvenient. Beach is well maintained, beautiful and not overly crowded like I saw in other resort areas further along the beach . Plenty of chairs on the beach for all. No vendors on the beach to harass you to purchase goods or excursions. Payed a hefty price for this trip which I suspect was because of the time of year, but the price was way too high for what it was worth.

Lobby Bar was the best!

We were looking for a quick getaway to the beach before the madness of the holidays. We booked this resort through a package deal, and were less than impressed. We had a rental car, so I don't know about transportation options to and from the resort. Parking was free, but that's where the amenities sort of stopped. After checking in we were informed that if we wanted to buy internet we had to go to the gift shop. The wifi prices were expensive considering most resorts give it to you free, and one would think that because you pay for it the reliability would be better. So we were escorted to our room on the far side of the property, and the room was spacious with an adequate bathroom and a strange area of open floor space. It was mostly quiet in our room other than when housekeeping tried to come in at 7:20 a.m. The food was lackluster at the buffet, and there were often many dishes recycled the following meal and day. We ate at the specialty Mediterranean restaurant, and it wasn't very special. The lobster bisque tasted like burnt gravy, the lobster was old and tasteless, and the service was super slow. We tried the house wine, but it was barely drinkable. We mainly survived on pasta at the buffet and drinks at the lobby bar. Needless to say, we won't be returning to this property. Russian karaoke was interesting, but the servers were missing in action. The beach seemed nice at first, but boats are constantly passing by close to the shore and stirring up the silt, seaweed and surf. There's a "dolphin pen" out in the water with a great deal of traffic. The pool isn't heated and there isn't a jacuzzi. I've stayed at plenty of all-inclusive resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean, and needless to say this was probably my least favorite. We were talking to some Russians about how they ended up there and when they told us what they paid my jaw dropped. The property is nice, but the resort could use a bit of work.

Great Trip

Had a wonderful stay at Barcelo Bavaro Beach, we met great people from around the world, including a special newlywed couple from Chile. We gave Bavaro Beach 5 stars for the hard working staff from check in to check out everyone was helpful and friendly. We tipped lightly but good manners and a smile got us good service wherever we went. The room was clean and in good condition for an older building. The beach is gorgeous, plenty of chairs and shade from the palm trees. The food was pretty good for an AI, we’ve stayed at several resorts in Mexico and Jamaica and this was some of the best. There are several restaurants to choose from each featuring a different cuisine.A word on the dress code, while I don’t particularly like to get dressed up, we all want a first class dining experience. We figure this is how to do our part.Overall the resort is huge and you can always find something to do shopping, sports, bars, a nice spa and theaters: then when you got tired of all the activity you could return to the adult only side and relax. This is a place we would return to again, we thought it gave us good value for our money.

Amazing Adults Only resort

We stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach in March 2016. There were 4 of us traveling together (ages 47-55) and we all loved it. Food: Buffet was excellent. Lots of choicesA la carte restaurants were on the resort next door which you traveled to with a small locomotive (or you could walk). Pretty cool. Once you got there, it was like a luxurious mall with Michael Kors, Coach, etc It had a top notch disco and casino. Even had a bowling alley. All restaurants we ate at were absolutely delicious. They were all very busy, lots of kids, so it was nice for us to then be able to go back to our resort and relax.Entertainment:They had a show every night and I think it ended at 11pm; however once that was done, the place was dead. I understand that the idea was for people to go to the disco; however the average age at the disco was 18-19. It would be nice if they put on some music after the show, even if it was only for an hour as people our age wanted to dance but no place to do so.We will be traveling again in April and would love to go back to that resort but it's on the pricey side so we will see if the price goes down!

Ok but I won't be back--not for POC

I had heard great things about Barcelo resorts so I was excited.Let me start off by saying Angel the bartender in the lobby is a gem. Food is awful but I don't expect much more from Punta Cana. Great circus show--trapeze artists are fantastic. Pools and beach area are nice and rooms are ok nothing fancy and the in room bar and snacks are a joke.Cool fitness center and the palace access is nice. Here's why I'll never go back there or to a Barcelo period. The management was nice enough to broadcast American football in the teatro beach lounge on a huge screen. At that lounge, drinks are served. Well, female servers would willfully ignore my husband and me. The servers went out of their way to serve Caucasian and European looking people, yet ignored us. They walked all in front of our faces, on our aisle and never stopped. One waitress actually clobbered a couple as they walked in. When I brought it to the manager's attention, he acted as if it was normal practice and did not apologize nor correct the servers. It was very hurtful to sit and see servers that share my skin color ignore me. That portion of the trip ruined my experience and I won't spend my money at any Barcelo property again.
