Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is a great getaway resort for both families and couples. The food options here are average. Make sure to reserve your a la carte restaurants at the beginning of your stay, as most of these restaurants get booked relatively quickly. The buffet items aren't that exciting. For those looking for good food in this resort, the best place to visit is the golf-course. There is a separate area in the resort for families with children (where babysitting services are available). This area includes an animal themed water-park, perfect for kids. The beach area is beautiful, well-maintained, and there are plenty of loungers available. There is also plenty of aquatic activities available, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do!
I read some negative reviews and was a little skeptical about our stay but it was great!!! the quality of drinks isn't the best but the rest was very good. we traveled with less than 2y.o. child and it was very relaxing and pleasant. even though staff doesnt speak much english but they are helpful and nice.
When we arrived the Palace looked amazing. We were Premium Level so we went into a nice AC area greeted with drink orders and a quick description of the area. The bellboy took us to our room...on a wild goose chase, lol. He was very friendly and got confused a couple of times but we finally made it!We had a Premier Family Junior Suite so our 10 year old daughter and 17 year old son had their side which was two queen beds with fridge, tv, 2 sinks, 1 bathroom, pull out couch and access to the outside deck with a jacuzzi. Our side had a king, with everything else. We liked the room and it had a sliding door for some adult privacy! No bathtub just fyi and the shower is half open which was a little weird but was fine. Our fan was making noises so we called the following day and they came out and fixed it. Also the little fridges were mildly cold almost warm. Here are a couple of things that bothered us with the room and service. I thought the bed was stiff but I guess I'm comparing that to my sleep number. The pillows were oddly shaped and not comfortable at all. The first couple of days the lights worked fine but by the 3rd day on our adult side of the room they would either turn on and stay on or turn off and stay off. We called to get fixed but it didn't because when we came in at night to go to sleep we turned on our bathroom light and then it wouldn't turn off!! My wife called and they would transfer her 4 times and she finally hung up and was headed to the lobby. The handyman came and I kid you not stood on a chair, pulled back a ceiling panel and banged on something. The lights worked fine of course. The next morning same thing... I called and even told them in the Premium Level area and the next 4 days we had to deal with lights that would never work correctly. We actually wouldn't even turn the lights on when we got into our room...we used our phone lights. That was really annoying. The other problem which I guess is 1st world problem but if your paying for something then you should get what you paid for is the wifi. It worked outside of our room but was hit or miss inside. We arrived on Sat the 11th and the wifi like I said worked decently around the area but on Thurs the 16th the 1st day of March Madness the wifi went down. They said it would be back on 1-3 hrs but never worked again while we were there until Sat the 18th. That really stunk cause we couldn't communicate via imessage or email. The restaurant food was fine. Not great but was better than at Strickers! The buffet there was really bad but hey it's the main spot for the kids to hang out at night and they don't care about taste, lol. The Casino was a nice perk. About the Casino...they round up when exchanging money. The rate should be 1 USD =47.0796DOP but they were charging 48 cause they would print off a receipt and when I handed them a 2.50 poker chip they told me they didn't have the .50. Also bring lots of cash for tipping and playing in the casino. The ATM's give you pesos and the casino charges 7%.Tipping is the way to go if you want that extra service. A way to avoid the extra long wait to order at the bars is to tip after first time and you will get noticed quicker when reordering. The beaches were nice and the weather was AWESOME! Brings lots of sunscreen that sun is hot but the temperature is misleading cause it was such a dry heat and you could be out there not sweating but frying your skin off. Saw plenty of red and burnt people, lol.Anyways, back to the hotel. It's very big and to be honest we didn't really walk all around cause it looked like other area was more shopping and we didn't want to spend more for something. If you have kids there is a kids club and besides a little bit of language barrier cause I do not speak Spanish the club was great. Our daughter who can be pretty stubborn on what she wants to do was there almost every night and loved it. The lady gave her a big hug after her last night. Lots to do...outside play area, video games, ball pit area, drawing area and they do activities and a nightly movie. Worth it for the kids to be entertained while the adults go have fun! All in all it was a really nice place, the staff was friendly and even the people staying there we met we had fun. Would we go back there again...no...but that's not cause they did anything wrong per say besides some of the annoyances which happens even at home...but for what we paid for and the options around the area we would try somewhere else. I would like more night activities, like a band playing on the beach and group activities.
Stayed for spring break in March. The accommodations were great, and the food was average. The average time we spent at the evening restaurants was about 2-2 1/2 hours, not worth the time. Had a poor experience with the booking staff when I needed some help with changing premium level services, they were not flexible and not accommodating to what I thought was a routine request.
My bf and I had quite an enjoyable stay at this hotel! It was our first vacation together and it was definitely a memorable! We will definitely recommend this resort...quite a variety of restaurants, shops, water sports and other activities ...rooms are quite comfy and nicely laid out...lovely ambience throughout this resort!
Everything was great about the resort except for the buffet hours and the wifi. Both main buffets were closed between 11:30-1pm and 5-6:30pm, which are both the prime eating times for our kids (ages 2 and 5). While we appreciated that the Sports Bar was open during these times, after eating their 2x per day, it got tiring. As a resort that supposedly caters to families, you'd think that at least one buffet would remain open during these times. Regarding the wifi, it was non-existent.
