Our Opinion

The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is a great getaway resort for both families and couples. The food options here are average. Make sure to reserve your a la carte restaurants at the beginning of your stay, as most of these restaurants get booked relatively quickly. The buffet items aren't that exciting. For those looking for good food in this resort, the best place to visit is the golf-course. There is a separate area in the resort for families with children (where babysitting services are available). This area includes an animal themed water-park, perfect for kids. The beach area is beautiful, well-maintained, and there are plenty of loungers available. There is also plenty of aquatic activities available, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do!

Overview

Dumpy, Horrible Customer Service

I reserved a $560/night junior suite for 1 night. The room was not ready when we arrived at 2:30pm so sat in the lobby until 3pm. Still not ready. Under pressure the check-in desk assigned us to another junior suite - smoking room with twin beds. Not what I had requested. I voiced my displeasure to the bellman and then called the front desk. Then began the string of lies and misdirection -Leticia told me hotel policy was that unless a guest told their bellhop they didn't like the room the guest could not be re-assigned to another room. Sorry Leticia, that's not a written policy and I already told the bellhop. Misdirection 2 - claimed I hadn't selected the correct bed/smoking preference. Leticia then admitted that the hotel was oversold and they had nowhere else to put us. She said since I live in the Dominican Republic I should be happy with the junior suite - never an apology, never an offer to discount our room, nothing. The room itself was worth $240/night - based on its proximity to the beach alone. This resort is dirty, dumpy, and in ill repair. Hallways and walkways flooded during rain. Elevators belong in a government hospital. Buffet was average at best and unsanitary. These all inclusives promise something to their distant customers and, once they have them captive in the Dominican Republic, proceed to underwhelm. The whole thing felt like a cattle car with no care for individual guests or the facilities themselves. Would never go back based on the customer service and mediocre digs.

Slept on a double bed on Valentine's Day :((

The hotel is pretty much decent to above average. I have been to this property maybe six or seven times in the last four years. Employees don't seem to go out of their way to accommodate a returning customer. I checked in with the premium level. The receptionist by the Paola check us in... and after numerous attempts for a higher floor above the first it just didn't happen unless I go to the other end of the complex. And being there as many times I I have . I wanted nothing other then building 5 or 6 So I settled for the rm 5104 ( first floor ) not happy !! Only to see I got 2 double beds. I've always slept on a king size bed most of my life. There I am sleeping with my significant other on a double bed!!!!!!! My sleeping was very very uncomfortable for three nights. I will not be staying there again !!! Feb13-feb 16

Nice property but.... Read review

We just got back from our stay. We did regular stay at the barcelo adult only w no premium. I will try to keep this to just highlights and lowlights. HIGHLIGHTSJr suites clean and recently updated... see lowlights for adult only roomsService was about average, but staff looked unhappy at timesPools were very nice w plenty of seating.Beaches were very nice, soft sand and ample seating inn the adult only side.We went because of golfing, and course didn't disappoint. Was beautiful, staff friendly and restaurant @ course had nice breakfast and lunch. Overall property is nice, but huge. They do have trains taking you around property. My wife and I are fit so we did quite a bit of walking. Spa was beautiful and well designed w hot and cold showers, pools, sauna, stream and great Swedish Massages. We own a wellness center, spa is a highlight. Casino is nice and they have Texas holdem tables for up to 18.LOWLIGHTSAdult only rooms are a our quality 2/5 star hotel room. Bldg #2 Very very disappointing! I had to make quite a stink but we got moved into jr suite. Big big upgrade. The dinners were barely edible. I say that w almost no exaggeration. I know many posted hit this restaurant or that one. I didn't find any restaurant good , average to poor at best. We won't return to Barcelo Baevaro Beach Resort for this reason. Any steak in any restaurant was such poor quality of meat made it inedible. Any meal w fish was awful. I did find rack of lamb in a couple of restaurants that was ok. Food was also very inconsistent from night to night in each restaurant. The buffets were ok , probably they're the positive highlight of the good. It was really a shame they did such a bad job w the food because this resort could been a go to resort for us w the nice golf course and other highlights above, but 9 nights of bad meals just isn't worth it. The alcohol is another low light. Unless you upgrade to the premium, Don't expect anything close to a brand you've heard of. My wife and myself aren't big dinkers at home but when you're away and you have 4 drinks over 2 -3,hours you hope for a little buzz. We just gave up trying after a while. Overall, we rated this from a mature couple no kids on the trip. So I couldn't comment from the family side. I feel like this resort had its good points but the food was such poor quality we just can't see ourselves returning, Also if we were forced to stay in the adults only rooms I would of hated the trip.

Disappointed

The property is kept very clean and Is very picturesque and beautiful .. the resort offers lots of amenities, golf , bowling , water park etc...Service in buffet very slow ( often no drinks until 1/2 way through meal ) also Most foods not kept hot ...The family duplex worked great for 4 of us... maid service wasn't great , no tissue replaced , had to call for towels Pools awesome , but not very clean We found the water spots a little confusing , one day asking for ticket to use paddle board , another day not ??Also needed to book kite runner day or two in advance which we didn't know ...Our overall experience was positive , we enjoyed walking the beach , swimming and the evening shows ..just didn't live up to our 5 star expectations ( very comparable to other places we've stayed in punta cana for cheaper )

Trip with friends

This was my second time to the DR and third all inclusive. I traveled with my fiance, my best friend and his wife, February 11th-18th 2017. This was by far the nicest resort I've been too overall. The buffet food was a little better than my previous 2 resorts, and the dinners were all good except for the sushi. I do advise to make your dinner reservations the night you check in. The beaches were beautiful, the pools were nice and clean. We upgraded to the suite which was a really nice room. The only downside to the resort was the drink menu wasn't as informative as the other resorts I've been to, so if you're not a big drinker that could cause an issue, and the wifi is only available in the casino from 8am-4pm, but hey its vacation who needs internet. Over all the staff was very friendly, the resort was very clean, and the food was better than most resorts or cruise ships, Would recommend.
