Our Opinion

The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is a great getaway resort for both families and couples. The food options here are average. Make sure to reserve your a la carte restaurants at the beginning of your stay, as most of these restaurants get booked relatively quickly. The buffet items aren't that exciting. For those looking for good food in this resort, the best place to visit is the golf-course. There is a separate area in the resort for families with children (where babysitting services are available). This area includes an animal themed water-park, perfect for kids. The beach area is beautiful, well-maintained, and there are plenty of loungers available. There is also plenty of aquatic activities available, so you'll never have a shortage of things to do!

Highly Disappointed!!

Nov 26TH- Dec 3rd 2016: This place wasn't absolutely HORRIBLE, but it was not up to par with the other resorts in Punta Cana that i have been to over the years! We arrived Nov 26th around noon and our room was not ready until 5pm - we wasted an entire afternoon going back to the front desk to check on the room. Each time being told - "it will be ready in 45min" - it wasn't. The resort is huge, and they have a "trolly train" to get around if needed. Luckily, our room was close enough to the main lobby we didnt use it. The rooms are nice the way they are set up, but they are very humid!! No fans in the shower area or toilet area. The room gets very humid when you open the door to the balcony - you HAVE to constantly run the A/C and fan above the bed/beds to keep it circulating air to get the humidity out. Now, it could be because it is November and rainy in Punta Cana- but unfortunately we needed to call the front desk to give us new pillows - as on the second day of my friend needing to use her puffers in the morning, we investigated the pillows taking off their covers to find black mold on them - and we were SLEEPING on it!! Unacceptable. There is mold around the whole room. On the curtains, in the bathroom etc. I have seen a little bit of mold before when traveling (i understand it is a hot/humid climate) and normally it doesnt bother me.. but the amount here was horrible and having it on the pillows is a health concern. The other issues with the room was having to call twice when we returned to the room after being out from 9am-5pm, for the room to be cleaned. Not a big deal most of the time - but when it is 5pm and ALL other rooms around you have been done but your room!!?? Then waiting 45min for someone to come?! And have a dinner reservation at 6:30pm and no clean towels to use - it is a problem!! Again, unacceptable. I also found the service around the resort horrible. MINIMAL eye contact & ignoring the guests. In order to get a drink at the bars you have to be aggresive or tipping. They seem to not want to assist anyone who isn't tipping. I do not mind tipping - but i don't do it to just get served. I do it to compliment someones exceptional service to me!! It shouldn't be the only way to recieve any service at all. There were though three workers who were exceptional and helpful whether or not they were tipped (and we know because we were a big group and watched how they treated those who tipped and those who didn't) we only got the name of one of them though. Her name was Samara, and she worked at the Cigar & Coffee bar at night. She made us great Cappacino Royals everynight, remembering exactly how we liked it. She was ALWAYS helpful, pleasant, and smiling - tip or not. The other place was the bar between the Mexican and Japanese restaurant- the main bartender at night made amazing chocolate Martini's & the best Margaritas and Gin & Tonics. The staff there were always fun, smiling and pleasant! The third place was the bar at the top level at the back of the amphitheatre - great staff there who make great shots and very friendly and helpful - no matter the tip! The last night we were at the resort we went to the seafood restaurant - it was a later reservation (9pm) as we wanted to spend the entire day out on the beach. When we go there they say us at the table. Nobody came to being us water or wine/beer until we got up and asked someone - and then it STILL took too long. When the waiter came up he looked at us - after we waited for him to finish his conversation with another waiter- and sarcastically said "Ready?!" .. i was shocked and disgusted. I gave my order and went to the salad bar as i didnt want to get angry on my last night. I have NEVER been treated in that manner at a resort or at home. Even if you are upgraded to Premium level - it doesn't change the poor service. The buffets are not particularily amazing - but most restaurants are good for the dinners. The pools are nice and well taken care of! The grounds are VERY slippery if they get wet - i slipped a few times in my flip flops, and if you fall - that is a very hard surface to land on. Be very careful. The shows are entertaining - Micheal Jackson show was great, and the Circus show was very well done! Overall, unfortunately as i said - I very disappointed. I have been to Punta Cana many times as the beach is beautiful there and i love the people - but for the $$ price of this place - go somewhere newer.

Great for the families, very good rooms, service, good beach and food

I have been in many all-inclusive resorts including Barceló in Mexico. We have been going with our kids every year last 10 years. We visited resort during Thanksgiving week. I have red reviews before go to Barceló in DR and saw people's concerns, so I am going to break it down step-by-step (we did not have Premium Club privileges):1. Check-in/out - although in some of the reviews I saw many complains about this item, we did not have any issues with it at all. Check in took 5 min and check out took same time. Maybe we got lucky, but we arrived on Saturday about 3pm and checkout about 11am next Saturday. 2. Room - we have Family Room with one bathroom and 2 bedrooms (one with king bed and 2nd with 2 full beds) on the 1st floor of 8900 building. Beds, matrasses and pillows were very good. We used jacuzzi almost every day. Our room was cleaned every day as long and we hang the sing outside. It was about 5-7min walk from the main building, but we did not mind since after eating so much it was not a bad idea and it was no noise at all. There were some bugs, but they supplied spray for outside and we had body spray. Also if you do not like walking, they have 24h shuttle throughout the resort. Safe was working fine and they restacked fridge with water soda, snacks and beer every day. I did tip made one day, but service did not get better or worse. We did not use TV or room service, so not much I can say about it. Also, there is bit of language problem with some service people and some service sometimes, but if you wait for the drink too long, just get up and get it from the bar. Not a big dealFood and drinks - we though buffet was very good. Maybe almost same every day, but it was good and way better than many other resorts. One day we had crab legs in buffet. Chicken was great in buffet for lunch and I thought lunch had many choices and I do not recall long lines. We did not have dinner if buffet, but had it in all other except French since only Premium members are free there. Food in all of them was very good. Best we liked steak house and service was best in Italian. Seafood was not bad either. It was odd that in some the drinks choice was beer or wine only. Best brinks are made in the 2nd level bad and Casino and they are really not good making frozen drinks anywhere else. I did not notice them waiting for the tip at all, but I did tip here and there with singles. Some alcohol is only for Premium members but plenty of choices for none premium too. They make pretty good martinis and other mixed drinks. Booking dinners was not an issue at all, but we only had 4 in the our group. I would suggest do all the booking first day you arrive at Guest Relation and then change if you want to. We did make one change. I would suggest lunch one day at 19th hole bar - good drinks and food. Sports bar food and drinks open 24h Internet - if not Premium, pay $45 for a week and it does work, but do not expect to have good video streaming. Just take a photo of user name and PW paper (they do tell you that). Internet is free at Casio site from 4am to 4pm and it works tooBeach - all sand as well as no rocks in the ocean. A lot of choices for locations and there are close once to each building. We got a bit unlucky with rain with tropical storm while we were there, a bit dirty water because of the lake and some seaweeds (not much in my opinion since I have seen way worse). I still swim every day in the ocean and pool ... last 4 days it was nice and sunny about 80F. By Friday water was very clean. Not much we can with weather.Activities and entertainment - our kids did scuba and horse riding and they said it was good. I also thought it was not expensive. I would suggest for scuba/snorkeling to go to Catalina for the day. I have not watched any shows, but I heard they were not bad. Shopping is very expensive there so bring with you what you need. All sign are on Spanish, English and Russian (do not ask why pls). Casino is a bit fun too to play a bit and have some good drinks and they have disco there from 11pm to 3am every day. There is an area with bar and pool for adults onlyOverall - I thought it is very good resort for families and I have no idea what other people are complaining about. They probably have not seen bad or have way to high expectations. You always have to keep in mind it is a family resort and not adults and have some dignity and patience. Couple of $$$ here and there can go long way

Beautiful resort but some improvements needed

We just got back yesterday from the DR. We were supposed to stay at Occidental Grand, but its closed for renos so they put the guests here. The resort is absolutely beautiful! But there are some up and downs to it.Room - Bed is comfortable, BUT we requested for a kingsized bed, we were given a room with 2 double beds. So we went to front desk to ask if we can switch, they told us there was none available and try again tomorrow. So we went back the next day and they said we will get back to you, which they didn't so we didn't bother. They did an excellent job cleaning our room, tho our minibar is supposed to be restocked daily, which it wasn't always restocked. We even left a tip and some candy. We also asked for a later checkout and they told us it would cost $45USD!!!! Which is silly, so we didnt bother with that. Service - VERY slow!! Especially at the pool bar, there was 1 or 2 bartenders working so it was super slow as there would be 10-20 people standing waiting to get service. This is something that defintely can be improved on. There was only one bar at the pool, then there was one at the building, but I think they needed 2 pool bars that u can swim up to. At the restaurants, it was decent. Few times we had to go up and get coffee or a drink or some utensils as there was no one to help us. Buffet Food - TERRIBLE! It was bland, at room temperature or cold! BUT theres a great variety of food to pick from. I know they had lots of food to make, but would be nice for it to be warm... At breakfast I'd usually get an omelette and it's usually undercooked so I had to ask them to cook it a bit longer. La Carte - Excellent, I really enjoyed the 4 La Cartes we did, at least the food was not cold. I'd recommend the seafood and Japanese restaurant :) Pool/Beach - Very clean and well maintained, LOTS of seating so never had a problem finding a spot in the morning :). Its too bad you had to pay to get in the waterpark. lol. The only downside about the beach was there was a lot of seaweed lol. Evening Shows - It would be nice if there was an early show as 10pm is kind of late for most people, especially if they want to get up early to spend the day on the beach. But they all were fantastic! My favorite was the Circus show. WiFi - It should be FREE, especially with what we pay to stay there. So I bought 3 days of wifi and the connection was excellent!! The casino apparently has free wifi from 4am-4pm, I tried connecting but no luck. Overall it's a very nice and clean resort :)

Great location

Hotel is on a beautiful beach. Lots of amenities, spa, gym, bowling, watersports etc. Hot tubs on the balcony were good and you could pull a screen down for privacy. Pool area lovely, Dulce the poolside waitress was brilliant, friendly and knew what her customers liked. The majority of the staff were not so friendly and helpful. In the buffet restaurants the staff took a long time to clear tables and often we had finished breakfast before the coffee arrived. The restaurants we booked were better but still didn't offer the service we expect at a 5*. Milvani the porter was also very helpful, offered to book our taxi and made sure he got all our luggage on board.

Stay with percarses !!!

Our stay was despite the percanse very well; The percanse we had at the hotel was that in one of the bars of the restaurants in the lower part there were missing tiles and my son to turn the foot made a cut in the heel, for our deep misfortune of which we had to carry To the hospital of urgency to our son, at first everything we paid but when we arrived at the hotel we talked to the 2nd chief of public relations and teaching him where everything happened, she helped us in all aspects, they did the corresponding inquiry and The next day it was all arranged, the hotel would take care of the expenses for the accident, and they were pending our son and us, this happened on the 2nd day of our stay, as they see we were annoyed a few days since the small Had limitations and not being able to get wet or run (it's difficult for a 6 year old), but we were left with the satisfaction of his attention towards us. With regards to the establishments "restaurants", they are very good, only the recommendation that they do the respective maintenance to avoid these incidents, and more if the tourists are going to enjoy this experience. The rooms very well alone you have to control more mosquitoes. The attention of the public relations department is delighted. For what I can say, we went for various reasons to that hotel for a wedding anniversary, a birthday and a wedding, we had a super time despite what happened. We hope to return ....What it lacks is to offer around the hotel free wifi
