Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
An amazing place for all adult travellers and couples looking for a fun getaway in Punta Cana. The Breathless is an amazing luxury resort that possesses some of the most spectacular views in the DR. If you can, book the Xhale Club as the location offers some of the best views of the beach. The resort grounds are lush, well-maintained and clean. This also includes the beach as you can walk for miles in each direction. They have great daily and nightly entertainment. The staff are pleasant and attentive and always looking to make sure you're having a good time. You might even spot a floating Sangria Bar in the pool! There are plenty of incredible food options including 24 hour room service.
I am finally old enough to appreciate solo vacationing. Believe me, I travel enough the traditional way but if you're looking to just relax and unwind, without having to make one single decision, an all inclusive resort cannot be matched. I had gone solo the past December to Cancun, so I understood what I was getting into. I had a few criteria when choosing an AI property and Breathless PC covered most of them. 1. I was looking for good food and spirits2. The property had to have something that at least resembled a lazy riverSince I had some free time on my hands and I consider myself a foodie, (living in New York tends to do that to you), I was able to take notes from just about all of the restaurants on Breathless and the sister property, Onyx. I decided to book the Xhale upgrade as I would have kicked myself if there was some alcohol or beer available that I would not otherwise been able to have. As it turns out, that is the only way to get most premium spirits, as well as Heineken. If you're a beer drinker, you will be drinking Presidente in cans or bottles and Presidente Light if on draft, available at all bars. I'm not much of an show entertainment guy, so I will not comment on what was going on at night in regards to the nightly shows, nor did I participate in what appeared to be activities happening around me during the days. If you would however, like some insight into the culinary happenings at Breathless Punta Cana, read on. If not, I'm sure you have other things to do. Before you read on, here is my disclaimer. I have been involved in the hospitality industry one way or another for a majority of my life. I will say though, I have never worked in a hotel or managed catering for hundreds if not thousands of people at a time. Strip- The tenderloin was perfectly cooked. Room service- shrimp, tasty and plump, Caesar salad dressing needs a lot of work. Juan Pinero brought it. Friendly guyInternational buffet. Head on shrimp. Not much elseFarm to Table. I was about as excited to visit this restaurant as any other. I had the avocado mousse and the octopus carpaccio. Both were served fresh but neither stood out. Mercure (Onyx). Lobster stuffed mushrooms. How can this possibly be bland? Hopefully not the beginning of a trend. Blue Water Grill. Art Deco 70's living room decor. Only a salmon and a grouper in the blue water grill menu? Had the pork ribs appetizer which was marinated in a Jack Daniels and celery sauce? Slathered in commercial but tasty BBQ sauce. Ribs were somewhat moist and tasty. Spumante. The Osso Bucco was outstanding and a must try. Easily the best dish of the week. Tender and tasty. Panna cotta was jello like. There was a quality control person asking at the tables about the total experience. The management seems to care. Spoons. Weekend buffet brunch. Fresh items. The fried chicken was worth a go. The rest, typical brunch with free flowing champagne and mimosas and a make your own Bloody Mary bar. Sofrito lunch. This is a bizare setup. It's a buffet but if you're Club Exhale, you can sit in a seperate area for the buffet as well as order from a menu. Had the tuna tartare, nuff said. Co-quette. The highly touted French restaurant. The waitstaff do not understand the concept of dining solo. One restaurant I waited almost two hours and some you're just ignored. Vichyssoise should be an attempt to flex some muscle and turns out to be leftover boiled potato water. The canned artichoke appetizer comes with small diced pieces of rubbery ham. Possibly the most disappointing restaurant on the property. Kibbeh. The bread that is supposed to be pita is like a fugazi English muffin, served with a red pepper "salsa" and olive oil. The Turkish-style scallops were purposely served cold and surrounded with a cold lentil bean and soy sauce, fresh and delicious.Dried soup. Nice presentation with the broth poured table side. Unfortunately, it's like warm water poured over leftover broccoli, cauliflower, onion, carrot and some sort of bland mystery meat.Harira soup. Wow. Burnt canned tomato soup. Whomever is in charge of this kitchen either wasn't on duty or just doesn't care.Capers (Onyx) Risotto ai Fruttii di Mare. Just a glob of reheated, overly salted rice. Sicialiano filet. Could be the same fish I saw on a buffet, microwaved with olives and tomato. Could be a decent dish if it wasn't over sauced.Spice (Onxy). Tom Yan Kung. Very nice sweet and sour broth a little on the tomato side, could use a little acidity and saltiness to balance it out but worth a go, however the overdone leftover shrimp pieces detract more than add. Crispy Pork, done well with pineapple and green peppers in a savory, sweet brown . Pretty presentation in a tiny "wok" with the brown rice on the side but clunky and unpractical to eat. The hint of cinnamon detracts more than adds. Way over portioned. The fried ice cream dessert was soggy and hardly fried. Sofrito/The Strip (lunch). Gazpacho was creamed for some reason and served with a HOT spoon. Perhaps the chef should just Google what gazpacho is.Spumante. Vitello Tomatto appetizer. Nothing more than thinly sliced roast beef atop of canned, but tasty dark tuna.Fettuccine Frutti de Mare. Tiny pieces of shrimp, calamari, tomato and peppers in a bland tomato, cream sauce.Picante. Seems to alternate on opening days with Sofrito. Pozole has a decent spice but could use a total overhaul. The general takeaway is go in with very low expectations regarding food and you should be okay. Other general property suggestions; 1. A place to hang your wet clothes without having to drape them over a piece of furniture on the balcony. 2. The internet is 2004 at best. Get some blazing fast internet or at least provide it for Exhale members. 3. How about some Bluetooth speakers in the room? Phone dock handles the old iPhone version. 4. There really should be more of a difference between Xhale and non, including faster room service delivery time. The check in and out process as a member was a plus, as were the folks that work in the Xhale bar/lobby/concierge. 5. Here's an easy ask, how about a trash can in the bathroom, not just by the separate toilet room?Overall, the property was extremely clean, the staff are welcoming and friendly, the beach was also clean and the Upper Management did a great job of making sure the weather was terrific for my stay. Having the option to utilize Onyx next door was appreciated although not necessasary. I would recommend Breathless Punta Cana for a solo traveler and my vacation there recharged my drained battery. Thank you
I had a great time at Breathless. I booked a last minute trip, and didn't know what to expect. I wanted a beach getaway, and I would have been happy. I got a lot more than that here. As a solo traveler, this place is very social and I met a lot of people by my second day. There are a lot of activities, and something for everyone. Rooms: the rooms are very clean and well kept and modern. I had a room with a pool and ocean view, it was beautiful. Food: I enjoyed it all. You have to visit the steakhouse (The Strip), the steak was delicious. I had no complaints with the food, and enjoyed all of it, from the buffet to the restaurants (try the Dominican, steakhouse and French restaurants) Staff: They were wonderful, very friendly and polite. The entertainment staff worked very hard to make sure everyone had a great time. A big thanks to Jack Daniel, he's a star. I would definitely return here.
We booked this hotel in celebration of our 5th wedding anniversary. When we entered the resort – there was no WOW factor, I admit. As soon as we we’re done with the check-in and upgrade process, one of the staff was kind enough to show us 2 rooms to choose from. I wanted a room close to the beach with the infinity pool – and the “swim-up” exclusively for Xhale Club Members was the best deal there was. My first impression didn’t last that long... While we were walking to see the rooms, I got easily amazed with the surroundings. Trees everywhere, flowers, comforting colors of the rooms, wide pools, and smiles that were very contagious! We had our personal butler, Mr. Junior, who made sure that everything was on point. He provided from the littlest to the most excellent service. The main highlight of his efforts was when he helped my husband with the anniversary surprise. During the day, he had a cabana waiting for us by the beach. He made sure we had our music playing. He made sure we were served by the friendly waiters. In the evening, he had set up a romantic dinner by the beach with hearts surrounding our table. It was a very sweet surprise. And when we went back to our hotel room, there were rose petals on the floor, a bouquet of red roses, anniversary cake, chocolates, and a bottle of wine! Not to forget the jacuzzi was filled with rose petals, too! My husband could not have done all those surprises without our Dear Mr. Junior. Back to the hotel. They had 7 a la carte restaurant, 2 buffets, a grill on the beach and a café. All with good food and drinks! They had entertainment for each night which was very entertaining. The rooms are of a good size. I totally love the color – very tropic! There is a private lounge for Xhale Club Members and not to forget the private part of the beach – more quiet and relaxing. The beach area has cabanas, swings, nipa hut with chairs facing the Caribbean sea.During our stay, we had the chance to meet the General Manager, Ms. Sandra, and the Hotel Manager, Mr. Ivan. Mr. Ivan joined us while having our dinner on our last night. We had the pleasure to chat and speak to him how grateful we were for the services during our stay :-) I will totally recommend this resort to all of our family and friends!!!!!"It’s not how expensive that sums up a good trip – it’s the wonderful experience that happens within." -MGAA
The resort is absolutely stunning! They have many activities during the day and at night for guests of all ages. Thanks to Caramello and Yan for their entertainment throughout the week! We surely enjoyed ourselves and will be back soon to visit this amazing place.
Just returned from a 7 night stay at Breathless. It was just what we needed as a relaxing anniversary getaway. This is our second visit to Breathless PC and we will be back again! Love the grounds, the staff and especially the food! The wait staff in restaurants and around the pools are very friendly and efficient. Always an "Hola" and a "Its a Pleasure"! And the restaurants. Love that there is such a variety to choose from! The e-team is also excellent. They work so very hard to ensure you have a good time. You can tell they are authentic and love what they are doing. Also big Shout outs to RedBull (e-team) and Francisco (Spoon) and Ruby (UVC). The main pool is a bit crazy for us (in our 50s) but there is a more secluded pool that is just perfect for us and is not very crowded. Enjoyed meeting couples from around the world. We appreciated the hard work of housekeeper, Miss Pena. She did a great job for us in room 1236. Great vacation and we will be back!!
