Loved this place! When we arrived we automatically got upgraded on the royal side! We were so happy we did because we go to choose among all restaurent. The food was delicious and the staff was great! The entertainers were beyond amazing they exceeding my expectations, especially, the man at the pool doing bingo at 3pm. They always had something to keep us busy. As per the beach, there was a lot of seaweed and rocks.
When staying here the first thing you have to do is tell the timeshare guys you are not interested don’t say later or they will hound you .when you get passed them go for a drink in the reception bar .you will be sure to meet Pedro or tinky winky as he is now known the service is top class .Food in restaurant always the same so we ate over the family side where it is buffet style
We spent months researching resorts all over the world and after weeding out about 20 other resorts in our "best of" list, we decided on Catalonia Royal Bavaro. Main reasons we settled on this property was the Privileged Exclusive Suite Swimming Pool and the way the property looked. Looked stunning and we'd have our own PRIVATE POOL!Best part of our stay was our private pool. We were in there every day and we LOVED it! Everything else was awful. Room service food options and food quality was a joke. Hot dogs, ham & cheese quesadilla that was soggy, everything served with cold, limp French fries, etc. The two times we ordered room service, it took over an hour do be delivered. Another issue we had was the overall service. Only twice out of the 6 nights we were there someone called to see if we needed anything. Problem was, we always needed something because we always had issues. Our bathtub wouldn't stop running, we had an army of ants in our upstairs bathroom, when it rained outside, it also rained inside at the bottom of our stairs. As for items in our mini fridge, we always had to call and ask for more because they would never restock it. They would make up our room, but wouldn't restock our fridge so I'd have to call and ask for more items. Most times I had to call two or three times as they would forget, so I'd be sitting poolside wanting a cold beer, but had none. And when they finally delivered some, they were warm. We got attitude from several staff members when asking for a drink, or a glass of ice. We were so upset with our stay that 2 days in, we asked to get out of our reservation to go somewhere else, but they said we'd be charged for two extra nights so we were either stuck there, or we could leave but we'd be paying for two resorts. I understand cancellation policies as we travel all the time, but when we're so unhappy because your resort is falling apart and we're being treated poorly, we should be able to leave! When we checked out and I reiterated our issues and expected some sort of discount like we’ve received from other hotels/resorts when there were issues with our room, food or service, but when we received no offer of monetary compensation, I asked about maybe one night free and we were told no. Lame. To sum this all up, we strongly feel that this resort and its staff does not equal what we paid and that is extremely upsetting to us.
Yes a nice time and the couples nature really makes it more serene - and it seems the quality of many things (food, lounges, etc) here compared to the much larger adjoining resort you can also use (with oodles of families) is much better.
My boyfriend and I stayed here from 1.3.18 to 1.9.18 we are from New York and wanted to escape the cold weather. We booked the most basic room, and stayed in room 4601. It is the closest villa to the lobby, and is right near the front pool so we were very happy with the location. The balcony was right against a roadway but I spent plenty of time out there and the noise did not bother me at all since almost no one ever used that pathway. The room was very nice, but the AC was not that powerful. For the first two days I made the mistake of turning it off when we left the room and it took forever for the room to get cold again so I suggest leaving it on all the time which is not very environmentally friendly, but otherwise your room will never get cold. Housekeeping came every day to clean the room, and they were very quick too. We would go to breakfast and come right back and find that they had already cleaned the room. The restaurant food was delicious. Even the buffet food was good, and I'm not usually a fan of buffets. The servers were very friendly and attentive, except for the Gran Caribe buffet on the family side. They seemed like they had a lot going on and it was easy to be forgotten about because that restaurant is so large. My favorite was Thalassa. My boyfriend loved the hibachi restaurant on the family side. Room service food was just meh. I wouldn't even bother with it, because there's always something else to eat somewhere on the resort. The royal side is much smaller and quieter than the family side. We stayed on the Royal side when we wanted to relax, and then went over to the family side when we wanted to party and socialize. We enjoyed a massage on the beach which was heavenly. I wish I could remember my masseuse's name, because she was great but I was too drunk the entire week to remember anyone's name.In my opinion it is not worth upgrading rooms unless you absolutely have to have a beach view or your own pool, but the pools that come with the room are so small that you can't do much but splash around anyway.
