This resort was the moderately rated Sunscape Punta Cana but was reopened in Dec 2008 as a luxury Dreams resort. In keeping with the Dreams Resorts standards, the Palm Beach offers outstanding service, lots of activities and well kept facilities and amenities. A great resort for couples and families. Also try the sister hotel, Dreams Punta Cana.
Location: Beachfront, 20 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport.
Sorry for the delay in posting this review but since we returned things have been busy. We visited with our whole family (ages 14 to 73) in early April at the height of the vacation season. While the resort was fully booked we had an amazing time. Fortunately we had booked the Preferred and we had an opportunity to meet Wilson. We quickly found out that there was only one "Wilson". He was everywhere, from helping us with our luggage, to placing candy in our room, to making sure that we had reservations for the ten of us at restaurants and other venues. About the only thing he did not due, but we never asked him, was to save places on the beach for ten of us. Fortunately my younger son and his fiancé were early birds, and got great places for the ten of us on the magnificent beach( we are not pool people, but the pools looked great). There was plenty for everyone--from volleyball, to basketball, sailing, kayaking and parasailing. For an all inclusive facility the food was very good. In the main facility, the selection was outstanding. There was enough change in selections from day to day for everyone to be happy. The other restaurants were also good. Because we had some teens we were not permitted the French restaurant, but we did find ourselves going back to the Italian restaurant (of course Wilson got us reservations). Of course the burgers on the beach at lunch time was fun and outstanding. Even had a lobster feast. All in all, it was a spotless resort and the staff was most helpful. They were all willing to help answer questions and assist you (when Wilson was not there) . The Preferred upgrade was nice---but except for identifying Wilson and short cut to check in, not sure it is a total necessity. However we would do it again. The General Manager sought us out and we learned a lot more about the resort, and the catering manager was there to see how we were enjoying our stay.We have recommended the Dreams Palm Beach to many of our friends on the caveat that they ask for "Wilson" the "one and only Wilson". We did warn them to be prepared for lines at the Punta Cana airport. The resort owners need to speak to the powers to be regard the immigration lines. Waits both in and out, while uncomfortable at the time, did not attract from a great vacation for our family. Southwest Airlines flies direct flights to the airport, a clear plus.
We stayed at this hotel 9th May 2017 for 1 week. Positives:-The grounds are beautiful, I cannot fault them, it's very well maintained.-The café which serves cakes, coffees and tea is great. Good for in-between snacks.- Children's pool is not too deep, perfect for little ones (make sure they're wearing something to protect feet)- Good entertainment in the evenings- Hotel staff are incredibly friendly and good with children- Preferred club has two private pools, a private area on the beach, free orange towels for sunbed use and also has its own bar. (I recommend going preferred)- The shops are well stocked, swim shoes, costumes, sunglasses, cigarettes, sweets and crisps etc.- Preferred get special check in where you can choose some snacks and have a drink before checking in.- 24 hour room service for all guests and its free!- You can purchase items at the shop and have them bill it to your room to pay at the end of your trip if you've ran out of dollars/pesos.- Currency exchange next to reception with 0% commission there is also an atm.- The beach is natural and on a good day the sea is crystal clear.- Plenty of sunbeds! Now I'm just going to list a few negatives:- Housekeeping do not change the bedding. They merely flip the quilt around so it looks freshly made. They didn't change our bedding once.- Fumigation does nothing to eradicate the endless mosquitos that will find their way into your room.- Children's pool has a rough texture, which cause blisters and tearing of skin on our 4 year olds feet.- We ended up with a travellers bug towards the end of the holiday, which we think was the food we ate as our 4 year old escaped getting ill thankfully.- The shops are incredibly expensive no matter how well stocked they are.- The hotel will give you a golden key, and tell you it's $200 (or some random figure) that you can spend at the casino/spa etc, This is there way of selling you timeshares so be careful.- Mosquito's everywhere! This obviously cannot be helped, but please take repellent and maybe take a plug in repellent for your room too.- People will gladly help themselves to floats that you may have purchased, as one American decided to come and take our daughters float from the baby pool, walked off with it to the adult pool and then proceeded to record herself lying on it!- The beach is not cleaned. It has glass, cigarette butts and other debris littering the entire beach so please be careful (especially with little ones)- There are vendors on the beach who will try to sell you trips/sunglasses/coconut drinks etc, this is pretty standard at most holiday destinations though and is of course, not the hotels fault.- Sometimes the bar guys who come round to ask what you'd like to drink will forget you and you'll be sat waiting.- I found the opening times for food were awkward. Lunch at 12:30pm and evening meal didn't open till 6:30pm. The beach bar would close at 5:00pm meaning if you were hungry between them times then tough! Room service is your friend here.- If you go to breakfast at 6:30am, be disappointed, they put food out that hasn't even heated up properly, particularly the rice pudding and oats.Overall we still enjoyed our holiday. It's what you make of it, and obviously there are negatives to every place you go, one thing that may have bothered me on this list, might not bother someone else.
